Well I got lucky after my stylist decided to stop cutting hair and go back to teaching hairstyling. My girlfriend referred me to her hair salon and I got scheduled with a stylist by the name of Darlla. Darlla asked how I wanted to cut my hair and I said short. She recommended a high fade. Wow that was a really awesome suggestion. I love my new style so much. Now Darlla is at a new location in Waikele and is just a few miles away from my home. I think the owner should just stick to colors/ curling (that's apparently the main style on her IG page, which is pretty don't get me wrong, but the service I went in for was just a waste of time for me). It lasted less than an hour, and my hair was long, thick, and frizzy. The "deep condition" felt like regular shampoo treatment as it was a quick wash. The blow out part is what disappointed me the most, I had to go home and retouch it with a straightener. It was like she didn't care about the special she ran. It was in and out, quality of service was not there, and my hair was just blown out without using a straightener after, and that's why it sucked. You would think, for a person w/ a hair business, they'd know to use a flat iron after initially blowing it out. Oh well. I left w/ frizzy hair, and rushed home to literally straighten it myself, although the whole point of the appt was so I didn't have to do it myself. *UPDATE*: owner replied to me (below) and through text pretty quick. I just wanted to make a note that it's nothing personal, and she was very nice during the appt, I just don't recommend for people w/ thick waves/ frizz to expect a smooth finish. A blowout does not have to include an iron after, but I honestly think it should just be known to smooth out the hair when it's coarse and thick like mines is for quality purposes. I've done lots of blowouts and the stylists normally end it that way because of the hair I have. I should have said something after the appt, but I didn't want to pay more if I had to ask to straighten it. But then again, I guess it wouldn't have hurt to ask so that's a fail on my part. Changing the star rating since it was acknowledged. But quality was still not there for me.

Donna immediately understood exactly what I wanted and got to work. I desperately needed to cover up my grays and get a trim (it had been almost four months since my last salon visit!), and she did an amazing job. I absolutely LOVE my hair! She is also very fast! My previous salon visits at other places felt so long and exhausting. Not here! The salon also has such a nice touch--they offered me water, coffee, and snacks, which was a lifesaver since I had left the house without my morning coffee. Donna is not only extremely talented but also the sweetest! I felt so comfortable, like I'd known her forever. I had a very disappointing experience at Mehana Salon with Shari…read more Before she started, I clearly explained what I wanted. I specifically asked for my hair to be cut to about neck length, and I pointed to the exact spot. I also asked for layers because my hair is very fine and straight and doesn't hold styling well. I've had this haircut before, and I know it works well for my hair type. Instead, Shari said she would cut some of the length off before washing it. I was facing away from the mirror when she took out a razor and removed what felt like almost all of my hair in one go. She never showed me what she had done. Instead, she immediately directed me to the shampoo station. After washing my hair, she wrapped it in a towel and had me return to the styling chair. Once again, I was kept facing away from the mirror for the entire remainder of the appointment. She continued cutting my hair for about 25 minutes without ever letting me see the progress or asking for my input. When she finally turned me toward the mirror while drying my hair, I was shocked. I honestly wanted to cry. My hair was much shorter than I had requested and looked like a helmet around my head. It was so short that I couldn't even pull it back into a ponytail to hide it. Because of how it was cut, my naturally straight hair curves inward, and I can't style it the way I normally do. To make matters worse, she didn't ask how I normally part my hair until the very end of the appointment--something every stylist I've been to asks before cutting because it affects the entire haircut. She also told me, "I gave you curtain bangs too," even though I never asked for them. In fact, I specifically avoid styles with hair in my face because I don't like them. A haircut takes months to grow out, and this experience has been incredibly upsetting. I went in asking for a specific length and style and left with something completely different, without being given any opportunity to see or approve the haircut during the process.
