We had an amazing lunch at Luna Mar. The views are incredible. What a gorgeous day to have lunch outside on their patio. For lunch we selected the Hummus Plate and the Mahi Mahi sandwich with fries to share. The sandwich was fresh and tasty but my favorite was the hummus plate. It was full of veggies, a generous portion of hummus, pita bread and chick peas. What a treat! I would order it again in a heartbeat. Our server was really good! She was prompt taking our orders and delivered the lunch in record time. We were thrilled with our overall selection for lunch. We even stayed awhile to take advantage of the rocking chairs and that spectacular view. What a treat! read more

Our flights routed through Atlanta to St. Thomas; there are no flights to St. John, only a ferry from St. John (or St. Croix), so we stayed one overnight at the Marriott Frenchman's Cove, which is next-door on the peninsula from the Westin, which is where you find Luna Mar; Frenchman's Cove offers rides in the hotel shuttles, and you can also walk... note that the short distance is hilly, and there are some blind spots but can also hear the cars coming, so if you walk, you should apply common sense and use all five physical senses and you'll be ok. Luna Mar, at the Westin, is a fantastic property, with wonderful views of Charlotte-Amalie and the rest of St. Thomas in one direction, and a view out into the ocean to the other direction. Luna Mar is an open-air restaurant... yet no insects! Unsure how that was/is possible, but we do confirm that there were no insects the night we dined there. Located at the Westin Hotel. Location is definitely 5 star with an outside bar and patio. Unfortunately the service is absolutely horrendous. Worst bartenders I have ever encountered anywhere in my travels. You will be lucky to get a second drink. I've never encountered bartenders that were so difficult to even get them to look at you. The other problem is our food took forever. The bartender despite us asking wouldn't go check on the status. The flatbread was good but the fritters were way overcooked and as hard a golf ball. This place has such potential but I'm sure the hotels management doesn't care. They have business by default with the hotel guests. read more

Views from the dining area are every bit worth of 5*+++ stars. This gem of a restaurant at the Westin has almost everything it needs for a five- star meal. The help was very sweet and helpful on the night we visited but alas, they were extremely understaffed and the meal lasted nearly 3 hours. One could not even be upset because you could see that they were doing all they could to deliver a great meal. Once our food was delivered, it was hot and very good. On any other night, I'm sure they would easily fetch four or five stars. Perhaps we shall try them again before our vacation is over because it really does show such promise. read more

had a disappointing experience at the bar that I feel needs to be addressed. I asked the bartender for a regular silver tequila and did not request a premium brand or Casamigos Blanco. Without confirming with me, I was charged for the most expensive silver tequila on the menu. When I questioned the charge, the bartender insisted that this was what I ordered, which is not accurate. I always specify when I want a premium tequila ,otherwise, I expect a standard well option. There was also no way for me to verify that the tequila poured was actually the brand I was charged for. On top of that, when I raised the issue, I was met with attitude rather than professionalism, which only made the situation more uncomfortable. If a guest is going to be charged for a top-shelf product, that should be clearly communicated and confirmed in advance. Clear communication and respectful service are basic expectations. I hope management addresses this so future guests don't have a similar experience. read more

We are staying at the Westin where Luna Mar is located. Off the bat, we did not get the 2 appetizers that we ordered and were brought the wrong one, which we believed was for another table. Because of this, we didn't eat it and attempted to flag our waitress down for 10 minutes to address the mix up. When she finally came back, she assumed we simply didn't like the appetizer and took it away in a hurry before we could explain. Our mains then came soon after and we never got the appetizer we ordered. They then sent us a salad "on the house" believing it would make up for us not liking the appetizer, which was not the case to begin with. We never were able to explain that we simply wanted the apps we ordered, and eventually just dropped it, paid and left. Food was fine, but the service was pretty terrible. You cannot beat the view and atmosphere! We went for dinner and watched the sunset. We sat outside under the pavilion and it is as gorgeous as the pictures look with amazing views, fire accents, music, etc. Our server was very nice, friendly, attentive, smiley and accommodating. I got the green goddess salad with grilled salmon added. The salmon was fantastic. The salad was large, but there was limited salad dressing and it wasn't the best green goddess salad dressing I've had. However, my husband got the fish and chips with the fresh catch of the day and it was fantastic. It was a very large portion and the breading tasted like cornmeal, which gave it a delicious flavor. We had the chocolate ganache for dessert and it was rich and mostly good. Although the menu says it comes with whipped cream, it did not, which was disappointing and would have turned my review from good to great because it needed the whipped cream to complement the chocolate. read more

This is one of the hotel bars that I went to when I was staying at the Westin. I like the ambiance of the place and the bar trenders are very friendly. Here's what I ended up getting: grouper which was good. It came with some sides which were just okay. For a drink I got a hurricane and the bartender also made me a vodka drop shot which was comped by the bar. I like the ambiance of the bar and I think that's the biggest draw The price is pretty high given the quantity and quality of food. I also ended up getting a kale salad which when I ordered it should have come first however it was delivered after the fish which was the main entree somewhat strange but whatever. We had the best experience, this restaurant located on the grounds of the Westin has the best staff and views, each yummy meal we had here we received excellent service. Shout out to Sniah R and the lady bartenders in the photos below. They remembered us and made us feel like friends each visit. The pizza was fresh and hot with tasty ingredients, I wasn't a big fan of the calamari kind of bland but hubby enjoyed it. My favorite was the pasta with shrimp dish. The drinks were very tasty. This is a new restaurant located within the Westin. The views are gorgeous, and I loved the decor! The food was exceptional. We all licked our plate clean. My kids had the short rib burger, which was out of this world, and I had the shrimp bucatini (sp?). The restaurant was new so the service is a little on the "ripe" side, but we did not wait long for our food at all, and the staff is very friendly. Misleading menu, below average cocktails and disgraceful service in world-class and absolutely stunning setting. We came it at 7 on a Sunday night - moderately crowded. After being promptly seated, our drinks took almost 40 minutes to arrive - and actually did so after the main courses. This was after a few complaints so kudos to the staff for comping those. If you like overly sugary mojitos, etc., maybe you'll like their attempt. I ordered this: Sicilian Orecchiette - broccolini, white beans, garlic, olive oil, parmesan - Add Italian Sausage for $5. Was I supposed to know this was penne pasta? Bad on me if so, but what I got was less than a tablespoon of sausage and even fewer white beans and broccoli. The kitchen really is cutting corners to save money by just dishing out the cheap carbs. My date had the slightly better grouper - at least you could be satisfied with the amount of protein in that one, but unless you want to carb up for dinner, avoid the orechiette. The positive? An absolutely stunning area with accompanying sunset. However - why do they build the hotel with the flagship restaurant above the screaming kiddie pool? That's a miss - there's a beautiful quiet bar on the other side of the hotel where the restaurant SHOULD be. Not a total loss because of the ambience, but you're better off with other choices of fantastic restaurants and service on St Thomas elsewhere. read more

This is one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. This restaurant is located in the Westin. Note that you must have a reservation as they don't have enough staff to accommodate anyone without one. We had a 6:30 reservation and received our food, most of which was not very good, at 8:00. Husband ordered a beer and I ordered a club soda. We were never offered a second drink in our 90 minute experience. They were out of many things, including the calamari, and all but one dessert. Husband ordered the shrimp carbonara, which was more like an Alfredo. It was fine but should have taken no more than five minutes to prepare. I ordered the grouper, which I believe was meant to be Parmesan crusted. It was not crusted with anything, not seasoned with anything. There was a small amount of broth in the bottom of the bowl. The fish seemed to be baked and served with some withered vegetables and a few potato slices. In the absence of calamari, we got the focaccia for an appetizer, which also seemed to be unseasoned, so it was basically toast with some sort of warm ricotta dip, which also lacked seasoning. Note to anyone staying at the Westin: rent a car as you won't be able to eat on property. Edited to add that it is now 8:23 and we are still waiting for our check (since 8:05). read more
