Came into Salt Shack yesterday afternoon. *Park at the beach, if you can find a spot (no cost) and walk over to the restaurant which is further down after the main entrance of the resort. Great open space with absolutely gorgeous views of the water. Our server Mickal was wonderful and took our drink orders promptly. He checked in on us often to make sure we were well taken care of and our drinks were continuously being replenished (if need be) since we were a large party and not everyone was eating. One person in our party did order the guacamole and plantain chips which were very good. Solely based on specialty cocktails this review is mainly about our drink service and selections which supposedly the "must have" here and most popular is their Root Beer Float that is served with a light rum, vanilla rum, coconut cream, and St. John root beer! This is an island delight and delicious to slowly sip on while taking in the amazing scenery. This is a beautiful location where they offer breakfast, lunch & dinner. Looks like a nice array of foods and would be fantastic to revisit for that aspect another time. read more

My fiancé and I had our last lunch in St. Thomas at Salt Shack and I'm so glad we did. The view is amazing. Exactly what you picture when thinking of a perfect Caribbean restaurant by the water. We were greeted right away and sat at a beautiful table looking out at the ocean. Bench seating was comfortable and instantly relaxing. We did have to wait a bit for our server to come by, but it was busy and we weren't in a hurry. We decided on a painkiller and beer. We were hungry after being on the beach all morning and decided on the Cobb, fish sandwich, and wings. The food was delicious!! The salad was exactly what I wanted and the wings were spicy and super flavorful. Prices were pricey- but it was such a beautiful place and the food was amazing that it was totally worth it and I would definitely visit again. read more

Salt shack is a sexy beachfront restaurant located in the Marriott's Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach resort..stopped in for breakfast and a waterfront view of course!!..what's the point in dining out while on an island if there is no oceanview, that would be pointless..! Got the 340 Burrito and it hit! Beverages were OJ and a $17 Mimosa (resort prices).. Getting here is a bit tricky if you are not a guest at the resort. You'll need to either park in one of the garages to your right when you first enter ( avoid designated parking spots of course) Then have the security attendant near garage entrance call you a shuttle van to take you to the Buoy Haus main bldg., from there one of the valet attendants will take you to the restaurant in a golf cart. OR you can park in valet section at Bouy Haus main bldg and have a valet driver drop you off in a golf cart..yeh, it's a little process getting there but well worth it. Kudos to the security attendant on shift that day that assisted me in getting to the restaurant! She is Such a gem! The food is great, views are amazing and the service is friendly. I suggest going for a stroll on the beach after! Lovely spot! read more

Family had a reservation for 3 at 6:30. We ordered the following: salad with shrimp, steak with fries, & burger with fries. Drinks included a martini, frozen mango cocktail, and two Diet Cokes. Overall, the burger was not cooked as ordered and the steak was overcooked. Salad was fine. In general, the service was very poor. A second martini and second Diet Coke were ordered but never arrived. Extra ketchup for fries was ordered when ordering the meal, but had to be requested a second time. The server stated the "bartender was covered up" when asked about the second martini. However, the table beside us got their drinks in a timely manner (they ordered their drinks after we ordered the second martini & Diet Coke). I fully believe that the waitress completely forgot about the order for additional drinks. In my opinion, there are better food options at the Westin properties. read more

Recently went to the Salt Shack for breakfast during our stay ..I'm in the industry so I appreciate good service but also take in to consideration that not every experience will be perfect..I could tell they were understaffed but it was all hands on deck and even management was helping bus tables , taking orders and making sure guests were attended to..Medi the manager on duty tended to our table when while the server was catching up ..our food was really good and our overall service was great ..definitely recommend! read more

The service was absolutely horrible. We had to ask many times for small appetizer plates since we were sharing. I never did receive my drink & she was so slow getting things to the table. My daughter & I shared the short ribs & they were overcooked which made them tough. My son-in-law had the snapper which he did enjoy. Consistently excellent service and great quality of all options offered. We have had breakfast and lunch and dinner and have not been disappointed in the slightest. Beautiful beach views and wide open sides with high ceiling gives a perfect feeling of eating in the Caribbean. From the conch fritters to the breakfast burrito to the burger to the shrimp ceviche, everything ordered tasted delicious and portions were fair. It's an easy choice to have a meal here and if you're staying in the resort at Buoy Haus, it's an even easier one to make. A short walk from the Westin will make you happy you got a little excercise to enjoy a meal here. read more

The hours on the website doesn't match their actual hours. We wasted a cab ride for 6 people to eat there on a Tuesday night, and they weren't open. We called on Wednesday to see if they were open and were told they were only open Thursday thru Tuesday. The website says Wednesday to Sunday. read more

Great location with great views of the Caribbean Sea. Food was ok, not great. It was way overpriced for what you got. Service was on par for a restaurant of this type. Over all the restaurant was not great but not bad either. If you are staying at the Westin or Bouy House this is a nice option for lunch/dinner. This is a very nice beachside restaurant. It's located at the Morningstar Beach next to the Westin Beach Resort and Spa, so expect higher prices for pub-grub food options and drinks. However, it's a newly renovated space, at a beautiful location, and the food and service are great. The decor is very tastefully done, and ambiance at night is outstanding. The food is nicely prepared and our dishes were delicious. They also had some great cocktail options. I'd highly recommend the Cold Fashioned, which is a rum old fashioned with coffee liqueur, including Ron Zacapa, which is widely considered the best rum in the world. Service was very pleasant and not as slow as many other places we visited on the island. But it should be noted that the Westin was not open at the time, so the place was not very crowded. Glad to see this spot is back open for business after being closed for a while after the hurricanes a few years ago! read more

We didn't come here for dinner, we came here just for dessert. It was my daughter's birthday and we needed somewhere to get her a slice of cake and sing. The staff was very nice and had 3 team members come sing to her. The dessert there are also very good.. I'm a chocolate lover so I was pleased. We ordered all three, passion fruit mouse cake, crème brûlée, and chocolate mouse cake. My husband ordered a drink and loved it. The ambience is perfect... it's right on the beach and is decorated beautifully. I just can not comment on the food. read more

Absolutely abhorrent service. Only a few tables in this whole restaurant and no one spoke to us for a solid 20 minutes. I went up to 3 workers over the next few minutes and it still took another 10 minutes for anyone to speak to us. Our server who ended up helping us was kind. They ended up bringing the same burger again after 10 minutes. I checked the temperature of the burger and it was cold. Clearly not a freshly prepared burger. I do think it's important to note that this restaurant is on the beach and you have to take approx 50 stairs to get there. We were coming up after dark, so it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't visit in the heat of the day. The staff is trying hard but there seems to be a systemic issue making it difficult for them to be successful. Runners bringing the wrong orders and wrongly prepared orders to the table, leaf blowers operating at the restaurant during prime hours, etc. Hoping Marriott can provide the support they need to make customers and workers both enjoy the experience.
