It had been a while since I had been to Luna Maya. When my oldest was in ballet I feel like Luna Maya dinner and mojitos were what kept me going during this long classes. Excited to go back would be an understatement. We even got a table outside and the weather could not have been more perfect. We ordered the guacamole and chips, because that's what we always did and nostalgia feels right these days. It was just as delicious as it has always been. My husband ordered the stuff poblanos and I of course took the first bite, and yes, they were everything I remember. I ordered the Enchiladas de Queso (made with corn tortillas) and added mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Oh my gosh, they were so good. So cheesy, so satisfying, like a warm hug from the past. I just moved to the area and this spot has been one consistently recommended to me. I first tried to visit with a friend on a Friday night--my mistake. I was told you don't have to have a reservation, but the wait at that time was 45 minutes so we passed. Thankfully, I was able to walk right in for indoor seating (there was a wait for outdoor) the following Tuesday night. My dad and I started with chips and salsa. I personally was not a fan. The chips were very salty and the salsa was a thick, robust purée that lacked a certain freshness to me. It wasn't worth the extra money for me, but they do give you a nice portion (served with two separate salsa dishes). The cilantro lime chicken tacos were calling my name, because those two flavors are some of my favorites. Our server asked if I wanted sour cream or cheese--I requested the latter. The presentation was fun and unique. I like that you get to construct your own tacos with the variety of toppings to include slaw, pico and guacamole. The slaw gave a nice crunch, but I found it to be bland. The chicken itself was juicy and bursting with flavor! Rightfully the star of the dish. Nothing negative to say on service or atmosphere. You must try this dish! Burrito Con Rajas: tortilla stuffed w/ spicy pork chorizo, roasted poblano chiles, rice & beans, pepper jack cheese, chipotle sour cream. This is another fantastic dish. All the ingredients came together wonderfully. There was a smoky flavor to the sauce that was enticing. Our server was kind and helpful with my entree selection. Upscale Mexican restaurant! We really enjoyed the ambiance and overall aesthetic. The vibe was upscale yet casual (meaning you wouldn't feel out of place in shorts and a tank). The prices were reasonable and the food was clean, flavorful and not overly seasoned. We started with guacamole and queso, no standard chips and dip were brought out. The guacamole was fresh and came out quickly. For our main entrees I got the stuffed poblanos and my husband got the burrito con rajas. Disappointing experience! Came in for dinner on a Friday night. A bit of a line to enter. 3 hosts/greeters at the door, not one smiled, said hello, or asked a question. Just a blank stare waiting for us to say how many for our party, quoted a 20 minute wait time, and recommend a seat at the bar to wait. The bar: Cleaning products next to cambros next to dirty rags = gross! Sad to see the main tequila on the drink menu is Sauza Gold and their top shelf is 1800?! Not much else to choose from (more Sauza and Patron) even if you wanted better tequila. $11 Pomegranate margarita was loaded with mixer. My husband's gin & tonic was good. The bartender was friendly, but between the 4 staff behind the bar, it took more than 15 minutes to close the tab (required before sitting at the table). Dinner service: once seated, same lack-luster, no smile greeting from the server while waiting for hubs to close out at the bar. Sat in a back room behind main dining room, extremely noisy and packed with too many close-seated tables. After looking at the menu and not wanting to figure out what "tasty bean spread" was (an ingredient noted on many dishes), we decided to order chips & queso ($11 plate of salty TOSTITOS chips and cheap, flavorless white melty cheese). This is the whitest Mexican restaurant I've ever been to, I think because it's on colley they charge more for mediocre food and pretend it's upscale. First, they charge $6 for chips and salsa. Fine, some places do that. The chips are worst than Tostitos, def not made in house. The salsa was bland. They have "chorizo" but it's spicy chicken, not actually chorizo. $18 for an over salted spicy chicken quesadilla. Black beans not refried, they were good at least. Mexican rice that was okay. $65 for chips n salsa, a beer and margarita (happy hour prices), quesadilla and enchiladas (with rice and beans). I should have known when I walked in and it was a bunch of 50+ year olds having red wine with their salads. Absolutely astonished by the lack of accommodation and service at Luna Maya. Someone in my family is sick, we are not able to be around people. We were given a gift card due to circumstances. We tried to complete an online order but couldn't use the gift card. So we called to place our order. The manager was SO rude over the phone. She told us we couldn't order over the phone under the circumstances and we had to come in to use the gift card. Clearly due to treatment and Illness we were unable to come in. My friend and I stopped in here on a weeknight without a reservation and got seated right away. It had indoor and outdoor seating and it seemed like there was a separate party room in the back. We were hungry and ordered chips and salsa (yum) and burritos. They were huge, like not able to finish in one sitting huge, even though we were starving. This place is amazing. The front of the house could use some communication work but the servers and the food quality is top notch. We first ate here during quarantine, our take out order was amaze. I feel like not all food travels well and this place has it figured out. We came back during phase 2 for a patio spot. A couple spicy margs later and I was totally enamored with the whole joint. Star of jasmine and the afternoon sun make their small patio pretty quaint. Definitely get the spicy guacamole (it's not actually spicy just flavored) and try the house made chipotle salsa. Speaking of housemaid, it seems like everything here is. I've had their enchiladas and loved them. This time I had the rajas burrito with chorizo, my wife had the carnitas burrito. 4.5 stars from me, rounding up to 5. I forgot how much I enjoy this place. It's definitely not a spot we're regulars at but I do enjoy each time I come. It's very dim inside but decorated very beautifully. Dim even during the daytime. There's a patio as well, with bright flower filled, plastic table covers. They offer tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, and the usual sides to accompany these goodies. Today, hubby and I decided on Happy Hour/early dinner. Dined outside since it's one of the first warm days. I highly recommend. We got guacamole of course! They have award winning tamales (deconstructed - a layer of sweet corn husk on the bottom, topped with a huge chunk of deliciously flavored, shredded beef, then sour cream.) The flavors are amazing. I should have gotten 2. We each had a drink - my Luna Passion was a bit sweet but really good. D got Sangria. Our total for this meal was $32. But had it not been Happy Hour, exact meal would probably be 45ish at the very least. Not the cheapest place to eat but if you come for Happy Hour, it's definitely not bad. Service was really great. The Steak chimichurri and tacos with Chipotle sour cream always keeps me coming back‼ Locally I haven't found better and at this point I don't think I need to, lol. No matter where I sit when I visit everyone from the hostesses, wait staff, bar staff to even the kitchen staff are all so friendly, that makes the experience... because if the staff of any restaurant sucks I personally don't care how good the food is, I won't ever return. A couple friends and I had a Galentine's dinner here. It was first time coming and my first impression of the place was that it was very beautiful. Dimmed lighting, spacious, modern music and artwork on the walls. Stepping into a Latin American restaurant on a low carb diet can be pretty difficult as my options are limited, but our server was really attentive to my special request. I got the mesclun salad with the cilantro chicken, and added onions. The onions were prepared the same way as they would be with the pique a lo macho, and it made ALL the difference! Seriously, if you're getting the salad at the onions. So flavorful and complimented the dressing and cilantro chicken extremely well. The portions were huge too. My friends had to definitely take some home. Knocked a star off however because I felt it was a pretty pricey. Almost $30 for a salad and 1 sangria. I felt I could get more bang for my buck elsewhere. If its a special occasion and you're willing to spend a little extra on great quality food, this place is for you. read more

Tried this place based on Yelp search and I wasn't disappointed. Sure, the outer look can be improved dramatically and the inside is pretty dark. However, the food is absolutely delicious. Firstly, there are tons of vegetarian options and not just substitutes of regular items but dedicated choices. My wife and I tried, cheese enchiladas, vegan burrito (spicy), and ben's burrito (also spicy). The vegan burrito was surprisingly the star of all we had that night. It was superbly spiced and had tons of flavor from many different ingredients. The cheese enchiladas were average but Ben's burrito was a let down. Even though I had asked for spicy, it was mild and greasy. The veggies inside were just put under oil it seems and the guacamole was bland as well. The lemonade we got seemed to have fresh lemon juice but couldn't drink even a quarter of it as it was so concentrated with both lemon and sugar. The monitor was also just okay. Nothing that says wow this mojito was awesome. Overall, I'd come back for the vegan spicy burrito and could also try vegetarian quesadillas. Their schedule is kinda difficult, they are closed on Sundays! And open at 4:30 pm and they close at 10 pm (kinda early). Is it 100 Mexican cuisine? Not really, more like Latin American fusion. I felt like they're kinda stingy - they charge for chips and salsa here! The food? Never too flavorful, I tried their quesadilla, just OK. My husband had their Holy Moly Burrito, once again, just OK, something is lacking, can't put my finger on it. Had their Luna Passion cocktail here, decent, on a weaker side. I had high hopes for this place. The parking lot was packed the patio was filled with people and those were the highlights. The food why I came (partially due to previous reviews) was severely under seasoned from the guacamole which presented with no salt or pepper, and chunks of jalapeño and poorly mashed avocado seems absent of the natural goodness of guacamole cilantro, garlic, (I don't like tomato or onion) and as mentioned salt. The queso was lack luster as well primarily due to the lack of heat in spice and temp. The chips were a little longer on the thick side for my liking although the salsa was good. The tamale was really a bad rendition of quality Mexican fare. It looked more like sweet corn spread across a hush topped with chopped brisket I could get at Costco and laid in a corn husk--certainly not what I pictured. I also had the jalapeño margarita and it was both weak in taste of jalapeño and alcohol. Would I recommend this place nah. Will I be back unfortunately nah. read more

First thing I noticed walking is was there was a curtain after walking into the door, which I thought was weird like it was a night club. It's not! Oh man! This place is good. Came here last night with a group of friends. I had been here before, about 4 years ago, when I was a much less avid yelper, and all I remember from that experience was that I liked it. We were brought back to our table once half of the party arrived. Our servers were quick to get our drink and app order. We were the only ones back there at the time so we all chatted and had a good time. Our food came out and we were ready to roll! The tamales, which I think Luna Maya is known for? Were wonderful! We got the meat one. Wow. Now, I'm no tamale connoisseur but I do know that I'm usually not a fan of them, but hey, Ill try anything twice, and these changed my mind! The corn base was slightly sweet and paired with that saltiness of the shredded beef= perfection. The Taquitoes were ok. Nothing that really hit home for me. I would definitely skip over these. I can get quesadillas and tacos anywhere, but THIS was something different. A few other people know that I like to try the most unique thing on the menu, so they followed me and ordered the same thing. I must start a new paragraph because me explaining how delicious this dish was must be standing alone. It. Was. AMAZING!! I honestly wanted to whole place to be quiet so I could sit and close my eyes and just enjoy the amount of flavors hitting me all at once. Each item on my plate had a different flavor profile too. From the cabbage slaw, to the steak, to the habanero onions. Even writing this at 4 in the morning, remembering its taste, is causing my mouth to water again. I was surprised to taste that the steak had a lot of its own seasonings on it. It was actually good enough to sit by itself. Cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, the "sides" were a plus and not something that was needed. You know when you go to some places and you need the sides to give life to the steak? Yeah, this was NOT that time. The dish itself was a little spicy. This is coming from someone who loves spicy food. And it clearly states on the menu that there is a mild version available. So, I ordered it as is. I mean, how can you look at HABANERO onions and not know this dish is going to carry some kick? Anyway, the people who followed in my footsteps and ordered the same thing as me were thrown off, and slightly disappointed in how spicy it was. But, you can't help people that don't read the menu! Just visited this evening after work and let me tell you, I WILL BE BACK! The food is super yummy (check out the pictures if you don't believe me) and the drinks are potent and help you relax after a long work week. I had the skinny mango mojito and it had a nice kick. The only cons are it's a little pricey--I went at 4:30 on a Friday. It would be nice to have a happy hour. Also, the service was just okay. We goofed and didn't realize the place didn't open until 4:30. We got there at 4:28 to try to open the door and it was locked. We waited outside and tried the door at 4:31 and like magic it was open. The ladies saw us by the door. It would have been nice if they let us know they unlocked it versus us standing outside in the chilly weather.
