It was average, just ok. Like I wouldn't be opposed to going back but it won't be a regular spot for me. We ordered two margaritas, a beer, and two taco plate (shrimp and beef). The margaritas came out 3/4 full. Shrimp tacos were good, I enjoyed. I enjoyed the ambience. It's casual dine in with a bar and tables. Service was where I found myself expecting more. The bartender was very nice, but seemed inexperienced and not very knowledgeable about the menu. They were okay. The food was fine. Not bad, not offensive, not something I'll be thinking about tomorrow morning while staring wistfully out the window. Just...fine. And come on now--when you go out to eat, shouldn't you at least have enough of an experience to write a great review? Or, at minimum, a solid "hey, that was good" without having to negotiate with yourself first? Tonight, "acceptable" was doing a lot of heavy lifting. We ordered salads, birria tacos, and fajitas. The chicken fajitas were made with chicken breast, which means they were, unsurprisingly, chicken breast fajitas. A little dry, but nothing unexpected. It was as advertised. I can't fault them for delivering exactly what they promised, even if what they promised wasn't particularly thrilling. The birria tacos were decently portioned and the beef was tasty enough, but they were greasy. Like, "I may need to wash my hands twice before touching my phone again" greasy. Maybe that's simply the birria experience. They were rich, heavy, and definitely giving "eat this and prepare for a brief period of hibernation." The salad was...a salad. Iceberg lettuce, assorted fixings, and all the excitement you would expect from iceberg lettuce. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing that made me want to stand up and applaud the kitchen either. Prices are pretty standard these days--roughly $25-$35--but I will give them credit for the portions. You're getting more food than you get at a lot of places, which is increasingly becoming a luxury in itself. Service was a little rough out of the gate. It had the distinct energy of people who had just been introduced to one another five minutes earlier and were collectively trying to figure out who was supposed to be doing what. Maybe it was the beginning of dinner service. To their credit, things gradually tightened up as the evening went on, and by the time we asked for the check, everyone seemed to have found their rhythm. The restaurant itself is...interesting. The layout feels like someone finished building the rest of the property and then suddenly remembered, "Oh! We need a restaurant." So the dining area feels a little tacked on, like it was invited to the party at the last minute. And the restroom situation? Let's just say the restroom is woefully undersized for a place of this size. Nothing says "welcome to dinner" quite like waiting for the bathroom while contemplating the architectural decisions that brought you to this exact moment. Would I put this on my go-to list? Probably not. It didn't offend me, but it also didn't inspire me to rearrange my schedule for another visit. That said, I might give them a shot at lunch. Sometimes restaurants have a completely different personality during the day. Maybe lunch is where they shine. And I recommend take out. Not worth it to dine in. read more

Steak & Chicken Fajitas = ONO Elote = ONO ----- I love Mexican and Tex Mex food, so when I saw that a new spot had opened up in the same building as where my friend lives, I knew it was only a matter of time before I dined here. Is Luna's the great savior of Hawaii's Mexican cui-scene (see what I did there?). Not exactly. But it's a decent option that's conveniently located. You just have to stomach the prices. Yikes! Luna's is located in the bottom level of the 'A'ali'i condo. There is dedicated retail parking in the back of the building. My wife, daughter, and I stopped by on Monday at around 6pm. The restaurant was at about 80% capacity, and luckily we were able to snag a table. We shared the Elote starter, I ordered the Steak & Chicken Fajitas, and my wife ordered the Baja Fish Tacos. My daughter decided on the Crispy Beef Taco. The Elote was good. It's hard to mess up elote, to be honest. The corn ribs were nicely charred and the chili-lime aioli, cotija cheese, and tajin complimented the corn perfectly. My only complaint is that the toppings were not consistently applied across every rib. The fajitas were delicious, and I'd recommend them as long as you're OK with the price. In addition to the steak, chicken, diced onions, and diced peppers that arrive on a sizzling cast iron platter, the dish is served with tortillas, rice, beans, guacamole, pico, sour cream, salsa, and cheese. I would come back for this dish... but $36 is a tough pill to swallow. My wife said the baja fish tacos were a little bland, so she asked for a side of the chili-lime aioli that accompanied the elote, and that spiced up the dish. Nice place for lunch, self selection lunch plate chipotle style and sit at any table you like. We selected pork and quesadilla, which came with salad, rice, salsa and corn. The food was good, the margaritas were huge, and I like the strawberry and lime flavors, but not the Mango flavor. Inside the restaurant was nice and airy, with large windows open and tradewind blowing through. The manager came to check on us and made sure things are okay. The tables and chairs are nice and comfortable to sit on. We had a great time having lunch here and it very pleasant atmosphere and we will be back. Somethings could be improved: some of the staff aren't as friendly, the cashier does not smile at all, seemed not as friendly. When communicated with a anormal tone of what to put on my plate, the staff can't hear me 80% of the time through the glass, so she had to lean toward the food, without mask, and ask: " what"...time and time again, don't seem very sanitary. Came for the giant frozen margaritas, stayed for the food and ambiance! Their frozen margs are HUGE! The strawberry was my favorite, second being mango, but they also have lime and will also blend any flavors together if you'd like! Our waitress was so nice that even halfway through my mango drink, I told her I actually liked the strawberry better, and she asked if I wanted to switch it out :o But I can never let a good marg go to waste so you can bet I finished the one I had haha The birria tacos were super tasty! SADLY they were not making churros the day we went!! *cries* So we will need to return just for this--I've been told these are the best churros my friends have ever had. Our waitress said they usually sell out of the churros by 6 or 7 and some customers even ask that an order of churros be saved for them upfront at the start of the meal haha. The atmosphere is wonderful, feels like we stepped into the movie Coco. So colorful, love the tall open windows for a great indoor/outdoor vibe, loved the lively music. Sometimes smoky whenever people order a sizzling plate and it just added to the aroma of our food while we dined :) Overall very cozy welcoming atmosphere. Reservations were easy to make online, made a res for 2 people just the day before going on a Friday at 6:30pm! I needed to try this new addition to the Ward area before I left. Finally made a reso tonight. The moment we stepped inside, it smelled amazing! Instantly drooled as we waited to be seated. The vibe and decor was very fitting for a Tex Mex resto. We sat facing the bar behind the host stand where all the beverages were displayed. Excited to see slushy machines both non alcoholic and regular. Variety of flavors from strawberry lemonade to lemonade both very flavorful. Sampled the frozen mango magherita but it was too strong for me, a light weight. Ordered the poke tostada to start and so glad we did bc WOW. The tuna was so fresh and vibrant the texture smooth like butter. Guacamole and dollops of sour cream. The tortilla was freshly fried and didn't crack once even after we cut it in fourths to share. I feel like a bit of acidity would have truly enhanced the dish a bit. 4/5 Steak and chicken fajitas regularly portion was great for sharing (2 ppl). The platter of sides that came with it from roasted corn to guacamole to sour cream to shredded cheese to pico de gallo to refried beans and Spanish rice. Loved the condiments to assemble the perfect fajitas that had sweet onions grilled bells and nice and tender chicken breast and steak. I wish it was a bit more sizzling when it arrived but it was still tasty nonetheless. 4/5 Hubs ordered braised beef enchiladas. Ummmm.... He shared the first bite with me and it was so divine that I needed a second. Absolutely delicious. Not spicy but packed with so much balanced flavors. 5/5 The freshly fried churros was not your run of the mill ones you get at the amusement parks. They almost looked like fried bananas. We stopped by for lunch after they recently started serving a lunch menu, and it did not disappoint! You can choose from a burrito, bowl, two tacos, salad, nachos, or a quesadilla. We went with the tacos and loved every bite! The kalua pork taco was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the corn and sour cream. The grilled chicken taco was good, too. You also get to choose your sides from refried beans or black beans, plus Spanish rice or lime rice, making it a satisfying meal. Everything was fresh, and generously portioned. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of my favorite things is that they're pet-friendly! They even brought out a bowl of fresh water for the dogs without us asking, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We had such a great lunch and a wonderful time. Spontaneous dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Searching the Yelp app for a Hot New Business that Irene and I both haven't visited yet... we agreed on Luna's Tex Mex Cantina Located on the ground level of the 'A'ali'i Building, on the corner of Robinson Lane and Queen Street, there's free parking at several places. I chose Ward Entertainment Complex, diagonal to the restaurant. It was quite busy with most tables full. It was lively and a bit noisy, but we were able to sit and chat at the bar (counter seats). Our server was the bartender. She was pleasant and efficient! I got the Two Taco Plate which comes with yummy beans and rice. The breaded fish and breaded shrimp were okay. With some outside seating as well brings this newly developed neighborhood the more chill and relaxing vibe that it needed amongst the huge condos and construction with a simple menu offer some huge flavors and thank you Nadine for the suggestion. As she had the Fish Tacos I decided on their Birria Tacos which comes with three and can see the bits of char on the tortilla shells which is placed in a taco stand which I do love along with rice and beans with consommé dip and upon receiving my order I was asked if I wanted lime and salsa...YEAH...and was given a couple each a green and red salsa both had nice gentle heat but was very yummy did elevate it all with such flair. The service is very nice and friendly instantly greeted us at the door and offered the seating they had which was just the counter was a nice way to view the bar and kitchen as well which was fast and very efficient. With lots of parking options available it's a great place to stop and relax for snack, meal, drink or all of the above as though it was a busy place it felt very comforting and relaxing after a long day of adulting it was nice time to taco-about it with a friend. Came for the soft opening of this place and had an amazing time here! The inside of this restaurant is beautiful! Very breezy with indoor and outdoor seating, beautiful plates and bar seating. Love the location, it's perfect for a pau hana/happy hour situation. We ordered a wide variety off the menu which were all great! Some highlights: - Ahi tostados: Best thing on the menu imo!! Will 100% reorder again. Emma, our server came by promptly and took our drink order. Our other couple came soon after and after getting settled, they placed their drink orders and our evening began. Frozen margaritas were bad, tasted like ice and tequila even thought they were fruit margaritas. Very bad but expensive. Unfortunately, it took fifteen plus minutes and a couple of check-ins to finally get their two drinks to the table even after we put in our food order. Also had to ask about the chips and salsa order. We also waited over 45 minutes for our dinner orders to come even though other tables that came in after us were already served and even then they came out one at a time over an eight minute span. Didn't make sense cause they were not that busy and kitchen looked caught up. Once the food came out, it was ok. Fish tacos, the first to come out, were not real hot, at least the pieces of fish. Birria tacos were good, decent flavor, wife and I share the plate. She wanted to come by and check them out but with the poor service and long waits for both drinks, refills and our food, we likely won't be back even though Emma was nice, it wasn't an enjoyable experience. Luna's Cantina is a new-ish restaurant on the ground floor of A'ali'i in Kaka'ako. It's a cute tex-mex restaurant. Fajitas were good. But we were told by our server that the larger portion is twice the size of the regular, and so we decided to share the large steak fajitas. Then we saw some regular portions going out to other tables and it didn't look like half of what we had, it looked like almost the same size. The onions were also burnt to a crisp, basically disintegrated. But the flavor was good. Place is pricey, but tasty. read more

If you're looking for the best Mexican food in Kakaʻako, Lunas is it. We eat here about three times a week, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and some of the best Mexican cuisine we've had on Oahu. The margaritas are outstanding--perfectly balanced and always a great way to start the meal. And the fajitas are absolutely incredible, arriving sizzling hot with generous portions and amazing flavor every single time. What really keeps us coming back is the consistency, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere. It feels like a place that genuinely cares about its customers. The only thing that could make Lunas even better would be adding a happy hour. If they had one, we'd probably be there even more often than we already are! We were seated indoors, and there were quite a lot of people already dining on a Tuesday evening. We had made reservations ahead of time and were seated right away. The service was attentive, and they checked on us often. The food was pretty good! We started with chips, mild salsa, and a few drinks. Lots of drink options like the standard margaritas and some mixed drinks. The food menu is not extensive, with options like fajitas, birria tacos, enchiladas, and tacos. There are options for kids, too. For dessert, there is one option - homemade churros with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious and a great way to end our meal. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that there were a ton of flies! I spent most of my time swatting flies away from me and my friend's drinks and food! I know this can't be helped, but it didn't help me enjoy my meal. Overall, we had a good meal and good service. However, next time I'll bring a fly swatter! read more

Do not go here. From the moment we sat down, it was clear this place lacked basic cleanliness and attention to detail. The menus were dirty, worn-out pieces of paper that were warped from getting wet and looked like they hadn't been replaced in a long time. There were chips scattered all over the floor, making the dining area feel unclean. The drink service was even worse. I ordered a Tito's vodka soda, and it tasted like straight alcohol with almost no mixer. It was so bad that one of my friends asked the server to take it back and ordered a glass of wine instead. Two others in our party ordered Pinot Noir, but after waiting about 15 minutes, we were told they were out, so we switched to Cabernet Sauvignon. Another 20 minutes passed with no drinks. When I finally asked what was going on, we were told they couldn't serve the wine because they didn't have a wine opener. The most frustrating part wasn't that they were out of Pinot Noir or didn't have a wine opener; it was the complete lack of communication. We had to keep asking for updates instead of being informed. Overall, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. Walking into the space was a nice vibe not too loud and the designs on the plates were cute. The service was quick and they constantly checked on us which is my only positive review. Unfortunately my friends and I have had a terrible experience here and would not return. We had a reservation for 5:00pm on a Thursday 6/4/26 and were seated quickly. We ordered a variety of items to try a little bit of everything. Clearly our Elotes was brought out to us burnt making the corn very sticky and chewy (not enjoyable to eat btw) we ended up sending it back because we could taste nothing but char on corn! The second batch we received was barely any better but by then we were already over it and decided not to send it back again. Have to say though that the Chorozo Queso dip was the best flavor that we had. Hand it to chorizo to be the saving grace of an entire meal. Now I've had birria tacos before and have always enjoyed them for the bold flavor but these were so unflavorful and for $29 for this plate it was not worth when I could go to La Birria and get 3 tacos for $12 with consommé that I can actually taste! This consommé was so watery that you can't taste any flavor and the beef in the tacos itself were not even seasoned, so again, no flavor. I don't like to waste my food so I typically always take the rest of my leftovers home but these tacos weren't worth bringing home to eat later. The steak fajita plate was advertised as being served on a sizzling hot plate but why was the meat cold by the time it was eaten? The steak was very dry and again not seasoned so there was no flavor. We also ordered a steak enchilada (not pictured) which was not bad considering the rest of the order. Side note: we had asked for no cilantro on the tacos and 2 appetizers and was our only request but there was cilantro all on the queso dip. We had confirmed with the waitress before she walked away what our order was and which items to not have cilantro on. The cherry on top was that after we were seated there was a table to the left of us with some "influencer" with a camera and lights making promotional content for the restaurant. Now I don't really have a problem with people who make content, however I don't like being in pictures and videos without consent. Getting back on topic, I could clearly see that they had ordered all 4 appetizer options (including the elotes) and noticed that their order was a bright yellow, un-burnt, order of Elotes with a slice of lime included.... Not to be that person but we didn't get a slice of lime on either of our Elotes plates. Just the lack of quality control of the food that was served to guests in comparison to the food given to the "influencer" table was baffling. We were just normal patrons who chose to try a new restaurant that had good reviews but seeing how we were treated in comparison makes me believe that all the 5 star reviews were from "influencers" who got obviously better treatment than the normal restaurant patrons. I don't like to give negative reviews but this one deserved to be shared. I usually think of Mexican cuisine to have bold flavors and strong seasoning so it was surprising to not get any of those flavors. I hope they can re-look at their menu, quality control of the food, and how they manage an "influencer" table to the normal patrons actually choosing to dine with them. **Lunch Takeout Review** I would compare this extremely close to Qdoba, not chipotle. I went in for lunch at 3 PM and it looked like they were almost out of a lot of the food. Customer service was extremely nice and the building was beautiful. Food tasted just okay... :/ Grilled Chicken was really good taste but the rice was sticky rice and clumped together. Should've asked for more corn but this is all i got. Not the best but not horrible! $20.95 for a chicken bowl + chips & guac May return for another lunch date to see if they were just off today Major plus because they had homemade tortilla chips, chips, guac, and they write a cute message on the bag! :) read more

This was my first time trying this place, and unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. The staff didn't seem well-prepared or properly trained. They had difficulty figuring out what was included with my order and even charged me for items that should have already been included. The food was also disappointing. My chicken was dry and tough, and the overall quality didn't meet my expectations. I hope they take this feedback seriously and make improvements, because they have potential. Better staff training and more consistent food quality will go a long way if they want to keep customers coming back. read more

great service and decent food! very filling portions and depending on what you order it's really worth your buck. the fajitas, although pricier, are a well sized portion and come with plenty of the fixings. the tacos were a good size as well although the fish tacos were a bit dry inside and not a crispy as we'd like. the enchiladas were good but I'd try something new next time. the frozen margs are great! big big cups and so tasty. read more

I tried this place after walking by it multiple times and I was not disappointed The food is very very good. I had the chorizo queso, beef enchilada, watermelon smash, and churro a la mode and every single thing was amazing. I should note I went for dinner, not lunch, because apparently things are a little different for dinner. Our server Selena was very informative, friendly, and caring which made the meal even better. The ambiance is really laid back. There are no TVs or art on the wall to distract from the meal. The music was not overly loud and all in Spanish, which made things feel inviting. I definitely want to come back for lunch because the chicken tinga seems interesting. Highly recommended spot for either service! read more

The food was served cold, and one of the most concerning things we observed was an individual who appeared to be the manager handling food garnishes with his bare hands. Watching this happen from where we were seated immediately raised concerns about food-handling practices and made an already disappointing experience even worse. The food itself was bland, tasteless, and seriously under-seasoned. The fajitas were particularly bad the onions were undercooked, the steak was tough and rubbery, and the dish contained only a couple of strips of pepper. It was essentially a plate of undercooked onions and rubbery steak with very little flavor or seasoning. Nothing about it resembled the sizzling, well-seasoned, flavorful fajitas you would expect from a good Mexican restaurant. The service was equally disappointing. Our chips and salsa did not arrive until after our entrées were served. The salsa itself consisted primarily of chopped tomatoes and lacked any real flavor. Because we did not have a reservation, we were seated at the bar directly next to the pass-through, which gave us a clear view of the food preparation and service area. The team seemed apathetic and disengaged, and the entire atmosphere simply felt off. There was very little sense of hospitality or urgency. I would strongly encourage the owners and management team to visit several successful Mexican restaurants, taste their food, observe their service, and then objectively compare those experiences with what you are currently offering. Pay attention to seasoning, authentic recipes, presentation, food temperature, service standards, timing, food-handling practices, and how guests are treated from the moment they arrive. This restaurant needs significant improvement in both its food and its service. The lack of attention to basic hospitality, quality control, and flavorful, authentic recipes is astounding. At the current price point, this experience felt like a complete waste of both time and money. Please do better and get it together. There may be potential here, but without meaningful changes to the food, service, cleanliness standards, and overall operation, it will be very difficult to develop repeat customers. read more

Meh.. I called last month to reserve a table for 10 people . I couldn't do it on their OpenTable app bc it had exceeded the party size of 6. Whoever picked up the phone to assist me was very dopey and incompetent.. and that's being kind. I had to repeat myself at least 5 times (The date, time, and party size). Actually, I repeated myself so many times that my Husband poked his head out of the other room to see what the issue was. I even made sure to call close to opening so it wouldn't be loud (apparently they have a Mariachi band). This was a very important dinner as the President from our Company was flying in from Japan and favors Mexican cuisine. Weeks go by and something in me said to doublecheck the reservation. After trying multiple times to get through, the same dizzy individual who helped me the first time couldn't find my reservation lol made excuses as to why it may have not gone through etc.. he offers to make the reservation,again, and that was that. Today is the day of our dinner. I screenshot the Opentable reservation prepared to send it to everyone just as a confirmation and then I notice he made the reservation for 6people instead of 10 lol. I cancelled the entire thing and made a new reservation at Cino which is a couple shops down and where we normally hold our dinners. I've worked in every position FOH and BOH in restaurants and I'm sorry but if you can't hire a proper Host that can use their brain or just have basic listening comprehension.. I can't imagine what the rest of the Staff and service will be like nor would i recommend anyone spend their money here. (Sigh) good help is so hard to find. read more

Luna's Tex-Mex Cantina is a new Ward Village spot at the base of ʻAʻaliʻi, and it mostly gets the important things right. The room is modern without trying too hard: patterned tile behind the open kitchen, a long bar, dark ceiling slats, concrete columns, and wood tables that make the place feel cleaner and more composed than the average themed Mexican restaurant. It looks designed by someone who has seen the neighborhood, which is better than looking designed for Instagram The food was solid across the board. The chips and guac were very good, with chips that seemed housemade and thicker than the usual brittle store-bought style, which helped them feel like part of the meal instead of filler. The large steak fajitas was certainly impressive looking (great for a family style dinner), and for $68, did come with a decent amount of steak. The chicken enchiladas were surprisingly good too -- we actually thought it was more memorable than the steak fajitas. Margaritas at $14 felt fair by Ward standards, and more important, they were actually good For 3 people, with steak fajitas, chicken enchiladas, chips and guac, and 2 drinks each, the bill was $200 before tax and tip. Pricey, yes, but not absurd for this part of town. Service was good, though still in that newly opened phase where the staff checks in so often it starts to feel like a group project. That should settle down once everyone relaxes a little read more

The hunt for great Mexican food on Oahu continues. Luna's is good for the price, but needs significant improvement. I'll start with the bad: The refried beans and the Spanish rice. The beans were practically flavorless. Might as well have just served poi. And the rice was very dry, almost crunchy. If I wanted that crunch, I would have got chips. The good: Great price for a huge burrito. The beef is GREAT, the salsa is made right, and the pico de gallo is actually flavorful and delicious, which is very rare to find in Hawaii. Add to that the friendly service, the location, and the general vibes (the music isn't too loud and it is actually a joy to listen to), and you have a good Tex-Mex place for a good price. I'll most likely come back if I'm in the area and craving a burrito, but I hope they fix the rice and beans. Since those are staples in Mexican cuisine, Luna's has committed a misstep by neglecting to make them delicious, which gives this place a 3/5 for me. read more
