    Steak & Chicken Fajitas
    Justin H.

TL;DR Solid Mexican/Tex Mex restaurant in Kaka'ako. Pricy. Steak & Chicken Fajitas = ONO Elote = ONO ----- I love Mexican and Tex Mex food, so when I saw that a new spot had opened up in the same building as where my friend lives, I knew it was only a matter of time before I dined here. Is Luna's the great savior of Hawaii's Mexican cui-scene (see what I did there?). Not exactly. But it's a decent option that's conveniently located. You just have to stomach the prices. Yikes! Luna's is located in the bottom level of the 'A'ali'i condo. There is dedicated retail parking in the back of the building. My wife, daughter, and I stopped by on Monday at around 6pm. The restaurant was at about 80% capacity, and luckily we were able to snag a table. We shared the Elote starter, I ordered the Steak & Chicken Fajitas, and my wife ordered the Baja Fish Tacos. My daughter decided on the Crispy Beef Taco. The Elote was good. It's hard to mess up elote, to be honest. The corn ribs were nicely charred and the chili-lime aioli, cotija cheese, and tajin complimented the corn perfectly. My only complaint is that the toppings were not consistently applied across every rib. The fajitas were delicious, and I'd recommend them as long as you're OK with the price. In addition to the steak, chicken, diced onions, and diced peppers that arrive on a sizzling cast iron platter, the dish is served with tortillas, rice, beans, guacamole, pico, sour cream, salsa, and cheese. I would come back for this dish... but $36 is a tough pill to swallow. My wife said the baja fish tacos were a little bland, so she asked for a side of the chili-lime aioli that accompanied the elote, and that spiced up the dish. I think I would return to Luna's if I'm craving Tex Mex. I want to try their margarita next time.

Strawberry margarita, a plate of pork and salad

Nice place for lunch, self selection lunch plate chipotle style and sit at any table you like. We selected pork and quesadilla, which came with salad, rice, salsa and corn. The food was good, the margaritas were huge, and I like the strawberry and lime flavors, but not the Mango flavor. Inside the restaurant was nice and airy, with large windows open and tradewind blowing through. The manager came to check on us and made sure things are okay. The tables and chairs are nice and comfortable to sit on. We had a great time having lunch here and it very pleasant atmosphere and we will be back. Somethings could be improved: some of the staff aren't as friendly, the cashier does not smile at all, seemed not as friendly. When communicated with a anormal tone of what to put on my plate, the staff can't hear me 80% of the time through the glass, so she had to lean toward the food, without mask, and ask: " what"...time and time again, don't seem very sanitary. A scoop of guacamole is $4 dollars and when I ask for it, the same staff said: what? Oh it is $4 dollars, I felt like I am begging for food... it there a better way to communicate?

    Strawberry frozen margarita--HUGE! Super good

Came for the giant frozen margaritas, stayed for the food and ambiance! Their frozen margs are HUGE! The strawberry was my favorite, second being mango, but they also have lime and will also blend any flavors together if you'd like! Our waitress was so nice that even halfway through my mango drink, I told her I actually liked the strawberry better, and she asked if I wanted to switch it out :o But I can never let a good marg go to waste so you can bet I finished the one I had haha The birria tacos were super tasty! Tacos were thin but very flavorful and tasted very authentic, and the birria broth was amazing. The braised beef enchiladas were super good, great portion size, covered in melted cheese. Chips and guac were great, our first basket of chips tasted a little on the stale side, but 2nd basket was great. Guac was oh so fresh. SADLY they were not making churros the day we went!! *cries* So we will need to return just for this--I've been told these are the best churros my friends have ever had. Our waitress said they usually sell out of the churros by 6 or 7 and some customers even ask that an order of churros be saved for them upfront at the start of the meal haha. The atmosphere is wonderful, feels like we stepped into the movie Coco. So colorful, love the tall open windows for a great indoor/outdoor vibe, loved the lively music. Sometimes smoky whenever people order a sizzling plate and it just added to the aroma of our food while we dined :) Overall very cozy welcoming atmosphere. Reservations were easy to make online, made a res for 2 people just the day before going on a Friday at 6:30pm! Service was spectacular, our waitress was very kind, attentive, and so friendly/welcoming. Price was reasonable given the servings/quality/portion. Parking is great, ample free parking at Whole Foods or the theater or even South Shore. Will definitely be back! Thanks for a great dinner! See you at the next pau hana!

I needed to try this new addition to the Ward area before I left. Finally made a reso tonight. The moment we stepped inside, it smelled amazing! Instantly drooled as we waited to be seated. The vibe and decor was very fitting for a Tex Mex resto. We sat facing the bar behind the host stand where all the beverages were displayed. Excited to see slushy machines both non alcoholic and regular. Variety of flavors from strawberry lemonade to lemonade both very flavorful. Sampled the frozen mango magherita but it was too strong for me, a light weight. Ordered the poke tostada to start and so glad we did bc WOW. The tuna was so fresh and vibrant the texture smooth like butter. Guacamole and dollops of sour cream. The tortilla was freshly fried and didn't crack once even after we cut it in fourths to share. I feel like a bit of acidity would have truly enhanced the dish a bit. 4/5 Steak and chicken fajitas regularly portion was great for sharing (2 ppl). The platter of sides that came with it from roasted corn to guacamole to sour cream to shredded cheese to pico de gallo to refried beans and Spanish rice. Loved the condiments to assemble the perfect fajitas that had sweet onions grilled bells and nice and tender chicken breast and steak. I wish it was a bit more sizzling when it arrived but it was still tasty nonetheless. 4/5 Hubs ordered braised beef enchiladas. Ummmm.... He shared the first bite with me and it was so divine that I needed a second. Absolutely delicious. Not spicy but packed with so much balanced flavors. 5/5 The freshly fried churros was not your run of the mill ones you get at the amusement parks. They almost looked like fried bananas. Served with a side of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce throughout. 4/5 Overall had a great time. Service was excellent. Everyone worked well together as a team. Chatted up with the manager and happy to see that the area has this new establishment so close to home.

We stopped by for lunch after they recently started serving a lunch menu, and it did not disappoint! You can choose from a burrito, bowl, two tacos, salad, nachos, or a quesadilla. We went with the tacos and loved every bite! The kalua pork taco was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the corn and sour cream. The grilled chicken taco was good, too. You also get to choose your sides from refried beans or black beans, plus Spanish rice or lime rice, making it a satisfying meal. Everything was fresh, and generously portioned. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of my favorite things is that they're pet-friendly! They even brought out a bowl of fresh water for the dogs without us asking, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We had such a great lunch and a wonderful time. I can't wait to come back and try the burritos, quesadillas, and other menu items. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for delicious food, great service, and a pet-friendly atmosphere. Thank you for a fantastic lunch!

The crispy tacos are extra crispy. Great price for the amount of food. The dish is very good. Drinks are great! For the frozen margaritas- you can mix 2 flavors if you want. It was a windy day and you could really feel that in the restaurant. It's an open restaurant setting. At some points it was too windy. Other than that, the restaurant had a great ambiance and vibe. Service was good. The restaurant was empty around 6pm on a Thursday night but then picked up after that.

Yet another addition to Ward Village...just keeps getting better and better out here. You may already know that Hawaii is not known for good Mexican food. But I'd say this spot is a solid 4/5. Ambiance is awesome Location awesome Service excellent Food is good. Drinks good. Tried a few items. We enjoyed it. Menu will likely change but I am excited for this spot. Would love to see some California Burrito... I know you guys can pull it off! Or maybe even Hawaiian Burrito/Aloha Burrito. We'll be back to try the other items on the menu.

Spontaneous dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Searching the Yelp app for a Hot New Business that Irene and I both haven't visited yet... we agreed on Luna's Tex Mex Cantina Located on the ground level of the 'A'ali'i Building, on the corner of Robinson Lane and Queen Street, there's free parking at several places. I chose Ward Entertainment Complex, diagonal to the restaurant. It was quite busy with most tables full. It was lively and a bit noisy, but we were able to sit and chat at the bar (counter seats). Our server was the bartender. She was pleasant and efficient! I got the Two Taco Plate which comes with yummy beans and rice. The breaded fish and breaded shrimp were okay. I liked the beans the most... and the shrimp after I peeled some breading off... LOL! Overall, it was a fun foodie adventure! Thanks, Irene, for going with me!

A lively place... You must check out in Kaka'ako well 'A'ali'i to be exact on the ground floor right across from Tonkatsu Kuro is Luna's Tex Mex Cantina and you know when you're there as it's a very lively and bright corner it brought to the area for sure. With some outside seating as well brings this newly developed neighborhood the more chill and relaxing vibe that it needed amongst the huge condos and construction with a simple menu offer some huge flavors and thank you Nadine for the suggestion. As she had the Fish Tacos I decided on their Birria Tacos which comes with three and can see the bits of char on the tortilla shells which is placed in a taco stand which I do love along with rice and beans with consommé dip and upon receiving my order I was asked if I wanted lime and salsa...YEAH...and was given a couple each a green and red salsa both had nice gentle heat but was very yummy did elevate it all with such flair. The service is very nice and friendly instantly greeted us at the door and offered the seating they had which was just the counter was a nice way to view the bar and kitchen as well which was fast and very efficient. With lots of parking options available it's a great place to stop and relax for snack, meal, drink or all of the above as though it was a busy place it felt very comforting and relaxing after a long day of adulting it was nice time to taco-about it with a friend. Thank you!

    Ahi tostados

Came for the soft opening of this place and had an amazing time here! The inside of this restaurant is beautiful! Very breezy with indoor and outdoor seating, beautiful plates and bar seating. Love the location, it's perfect for a pau hana/happy hour situation. We ordered a wide variety off the menu which were all great! Some highlights: - Ahi tostados: Best thing on the menu imo!! Will 100% reorder again. Ahi was so fresh and comes with generous heaping of avocado on a large yummy chip. - Chips with guacamole and salsa: Good chips, generous serving of guac - Steak fajitas: Steak was delicious, not overdone, soft and flavorful. Would definitely get again! We also got mango and lilikoi mock-a-ritas which were so good! The lilikoi was very tart if you're not into that, but I enjoyed it. In terms of service, the staff seemed busy but always had time to stop by our table and checked in on us. Excited to come back!

Here's Miso Katsu with his three steak bowls, fresh chips and waiting for his fresh guac.

Their chips and guacamole was much better than Chipotle's. The guac was a fresh batch and chips were freshly fried. I will get that again every time. My steak bowl was good but needed more corn and lettuce. Overall, food was 10/10 and my friend and I agreed we would come back to Luna's again. Service was pretty good. Staff is super accommodating and hygienic so I can absolutely appreciate that! Note to patrons: no cash accepted.

Luna's Cantina is a new-ish restaurant on the ground floor of A'ali'i in Kaka'ako. It's a cute tex-mex restaurant. Fajitas were good. But we were told by our server that the larger portion is twice the size of the regular, and so we decided to share the large steak fajitas. Then we saw some regular portions going out to other tables and it didn't look like half of what we had, it looked like almost the same size. The onions were also burnt to a crisp, basically disintegrated. But the flavor was good. Place is pricey, but tasty.

***4.5 STARS***…read more After a subpar dinner outing earlier this week and a bad day at the office today, I was weary and didn't have much energy to go dinner with some buddies I've known since junior high. Plans were already made and it's been some time since I saw them so I dug deep for positivity and picked up my friends for an early dinner. Venue was Mexico Restaurant (MR), located near the corner of N School Street and Houghtailing. MR has been in business on the busy N School Street for over 18 years now. I've been wanting to try here as I've driven past this place so many times and wondered what their food is like. A handful of my colleagues at work spoke highly of this restaurant and 3 different people told me to try their crab chimichanga which uses real crab meat, evidenced by small pieces of crab shells found while eating. So excited. We arrived at MR shortly before 530pm to have witnessed all parking stalls occupied. One of my friends went to ask the staff if I could park in a marked stall "truck" which was fine. Impressed how all stalls were taken so early. As I walked in, I was in awe of such interesting and colorful decor that gave the restaurant a festive and bright atmosphere. Prior to dining here I read a handful of reviews where it was mentioned chips and salsa are no longer complimentary. The food porn on Yelp's photo gallery showed generous portions so although we were hesitant in ordering a starter, I was tasked to pick something and chose the carne asada fries. I pretty much wanted to try the much anticipated crab chimichanga I've heard so much about but also came across the pescado frito (deep fried fish, catch of the day) served with tortillas, which also got my attention. When our server Jesus advised there's no fish of the day, I asked about my colleague's recommendation of crab chimichanga which I couldn't find in the menu. Jesus advised there's lobster instead which I ended up ordering. The carne asada fries came out shortly and this starter was piping hot and looked delicious. It hit the spot with generous portions of beef, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Absolutely delicious. The wait for our main dishes didn't seem that long as the time was used catching up with each as it's been quite some time since we last saw each other. 3 hot plates of sizable chimichangas and burrito were served. After snapping photos it was finally time to dig in. My lobster chimichanga was not bad but it lacked the crispy exterior I was expecting and the lobster didn't really shine. You knew you were eating seafood but the lobster didn't shine. The accompanying fried beans, Mexican rice and papaya salsa were tasty but perhaps too much starch on a plate. Food was indeed tasty but perhaps I was expecting too much when advertised as lobster. Portions are massive here where we all took leftovers home for another meal. Service was above average. Jesus and the other staff stopped by our table to check up on us, refilled our water glasses and brought carry out containers as we were done. Overall, a memorable first time at MR where I'd be game for a repeat visit. This time I'd like to try their quesadillas as I also enjoy eating this. Or perhaps the pescado frito as I'm a fan of deep fried fish tacos.

Then our waiter walks us to our car with an umbrella making sure my baby and I got into our car safely and dry. I also want to mention that the food is great and the prices aren't bad! What my family really appreciated was the overall experience and kindness we received from everyone there. Very genuine. It definitely made our day/night. I didn't catch their names but they were working on August 15th. Will be dining in more!

Service wasn't as good as normal, the bus person I I guess could have helped instead of just standing around with the waiter being so busy, which made the service very slow at least they could check on the tables, we were there almost 1/2 hour and no one came to check on the table for water or anything else? We were ready to leave, it has never been this bad on service all the times we dined there. Finally our meals arrived I ordered the special shredded beef burrito which was good as before, which is huge and filling. My wife ordered the veggie regular burrito which after eating about half because it is small compared to the specialty burritos, found out it wasn't a vegetarian burritos, but also a shredded beef burritos. We went early hoping to avoid the rush, but I guess everyone else had the same idea. Sorry no pictures due to this page will not allow me to update any more pictures.

Waitress was super sweet, but her manager couldn't honor the happy hour pricing, because they took the order at 6:03, although we were sat down ready to order..not our fault you didn't come to take our order.. Price: 2 birria tacos for $17 I get everything is expensive here but this is straight up asinine. Not for this sad looking plate with a dried wedge of lime. Is that supposed to do anything at this point This tells me management is profit maxing without doing anything else to make this into a remotely decent restaurant. Reminder to look into restaurants before going! We saw outdoor area and wanted to grab some margs and left with a bill we thought was the biggest waste of our money so far in 2026. Not to mention their roof leaks so you're not even safe from rain! I highly recommend Taco Bell or any local food trucks! ‍ gd I haven't felt scammed like this in a hot minute.

Only difference now is they are a sit down establishment serving margaritas and the like. I try carne asada at almost every Mexican eatery I stop at and this place rises to the top. Authentic taste; as if you were somewhere in Mexico. Any menu item is well flavored. That's all you need to know. Oh, their portions are huge so be mindful when ordering. If I had to pick one thing bordering negative it is the location as they are on Kalihi Street well into the Kalihi Valley. But, you will get used to it after your first visit; afterall, it's worth the journey into the "valley" Couple things you should know and that is chicken enchiladas are not made daily. I think it's Tuesday and Thursday? Not sure but it is limited. If you don't already know, their Kapahulu location closed a few years ago. They do intend on opening another location in Pauoa Valley I'm told and another location in Pearl Kai... I hope I'm not spreading rumors.... Regardless.... get there or be square!

But what I didn't know was that they don't have a happy hour...they have a HAPPY DAY!!!!! 10-6 PM! Flavor was solid, portion was generous, and the food itself is the main reason I keep coming back. The ambiance is chill and local. Most of the afternoon crowd seemed to know each other, which gives the place a comfortable neighborhood feel. That said, the inside is a little dingy and could probably use a renovation. The issue on this visit was the service. When we got there, it was pretty empty, maybe 4 or 5 people sitting at the bar. The guy working behind the bar seated us, but then never brought menus, never brought water, and never came back to take our order. When my friend tried waving him down, he ignored us. Eventually another employee came in, and the bartender just told him, "Go take his order," without acknowledging us at all. I don't know if he was only working the bar that day, but he could have at least brought water, menus, or simply said someone would be right with us. Instead, the whole interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessary. Food was very good as always, but service matters too. Based on this visit, I'd call it 3 stars overall.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park! That's the only real bummer about this place and has deterred me from returning. :(

They have several sauces to choose from that range from hot to hotter imo lol...a Tapatio and some other brands. Mine actually tasted great without it. The restaurant has a few tables, a couple fish tanks, flat screen tvs and just an overall cute vibe. Everything looked clean.
