On a whim decided to get a blowout before a wedding I had last week. I was lucky enough to have Iza and she did a great job!! The wedding was on Friday (when I got the blowout) and my hair is still looking good (Tuesday) having been slept on, drizzled on, and exercise. I was pleasantly surprised with the wash portion that was truly like a spa! It's a quiet dark room with calming music playing as they wash your hair and give you a scalp massage. I was also offered a drink when I first walked in! The blowout was efficient and quick - the whole process took less than an hour. As someone who RARELY straightens her curly hair, this blowout has me thinking I need to be doing this more often. If I'm ever back in UT and needing a blowout, I'm coming here! read more

How do I love thee...? Let me count the ways... I've had my long hair colored & cut here several times. I'd be a regular if I lived in UT! Yes, that's right- I wait to get my hair done if I know I'll be in town. I'm 1 of those people who is described by their hair "Amy with the long red hair" & I take pride in my locks. I have naturally strawberry blonde thick but fine long hair. I'm picky & I know it! I prefer my reds a bit darker with balayage warm blondes woven in. No- it is not the same getting highlights! If you know hair color chemistry & cuts at all, you know a lot can go wrong when placing red & blonde onto a very full head of long hair. The dreaded orange hot roots; red bleeding onto blonde pieces; mixing red & brown to find the shade I think is right; mixing again because I always require more product; placement so balayage flows & doesn't look like a big Tulsi Gabbard style chunk (sorry Tulsi, luv ya)! I've seen 4 different stylists at 2 locations and I get consistently great color!! I've even taken others! My elderly mom got a perm (yea, people still do that!) and new cut she loved. My bff who just moved to UT had a cut with root coverage. She's already booked to go back. To show range- I'm a white gurl with a ton of straight hair; my bff is Mexican with thick curly strands. My mom has thinning very short hair with unruly cowlicks. All were happy! At Willow Creek location, there is a separate room for hair washing & it's like heaven! I'd pay extra for more time having my hair washed/scalp massaged. I wish I could remember every stylist name, but shout out to both Chloe's! Tyson nailed my color too. Friendly, fun & great listeners. I've heard some locals whine about price, and to this I say, try getting this quality in CA where I live or go ahead and cheap out & live with the results. Worth every penny! I don't wanna get any of the staff in trouble, so I'll just add that a few helpers were generous with wine & snacks. Idk about you, but when I spend hours at a salon, I get hungry & body pain from sitting. I'm just sayin', wine helps loosen those tense muscles! Ok, I've said enough. Just go & try them! Since changing to Lunatic Fringe (Union Heights location) several years ago, my hair has transformed. Katie S. (who I refer to as my "Color Queen") is not only very knowledgeable about color, she is also an expert in appropriate hair care. I have very curly, dark hair that is usually highlighted and can be very hard to maintain especially because I straighten my hair regularly. My hair has never been managed well at other salons. Katie has given me great hair care, product advice and with consistent hair treatment visits, I'm able to enjoy my highlights and my hair has NEVER looked better. I'm so grateful to her as my healthy hair journey has been long and frustrating. I truly believe having a knowledgeable stylist who cares about your specific needs is half the battle. From check-in to payout, the whole experience was welcoming and inviting. Anna touched base with me throughout the process to make sure we were always on the same page. For example: when I said what haircut I wanted, she asked clarifying questions I hadn't even thought about. At each step of the haircut, she made sure to confirm with me (are there enough layers, are the bangs the length you wanted, etc.) She was super friendly and fun and in fact all the stylists seemed energetic and engaged with their clients, getting the job done while having fun. The salon itself was well spaced and and clean. The room to wash hair smelled good and had relaxing music, giving it a spa-like atmosphere. Many high-end salons err on the snobby side of things, but this location at least is the perfect marriage of fun and capable. And I would especially recommend Anna. #ThankYouThursday read more

I had the best experience of my life and I've finally met such a wonderful person that truly understands curly hair. Zach took so much time with me. He was so patient and thorough. I had such an amazing learning experience with him. It wasn't just a haircut, but it was an entire session dedicated to teaching me about how to treat my hair, how to style my hair, and what products work best for my hair. After he washed and cut my hair, he took almost an hour to style it exactly the way I've always dreamed of having my hair. Perfect, voluminous, ringlet curls with body and bounce! My hair was extremely unhealthy and it has been one year and 3 months since I received a haircut. Due to my fear of getting my haircut. Now, that fear is gone because I've met such a professional, capable, HAIR GENIUS!!!! The whole experience coming in was inviting and clean and the girls all seemed nice. I received a gift card from a friend for a haircut and kerastase treatment for 150.00. I got the treatment, but didn't need the haircut, which was not needed. The gal washed and conditioned my hair, then blowed dried it, which is a normal process. Hair felt great! I went to go check out, and was charged 68.00 for a blow dry! I couldn't believe it! In all my years with a stylist, blow drying is part of your process and included in your price. I will probably not go back. I can only imagine their costs on other services they offer clients! Gouge your pocket book for sure. read more

After reading other reviews it's seems I'm the only one disappointed after my cut with Lauren. I normally go to the parleys location, but recently moved to sandy, so their new willow creek location was more convenient for me. I chose to go with Lauren as she is the owner and master stylist, but that proved to be a mistake. She was 15 minutes late to grab me from the waiting area to begin with. She seemed rushed and distracted. Her cuts were sloppy and careless. The end result was a lopsided look and a missing chunk of hair that was needed for blending. So I'll be going to the parleys location tonight to hopefully have it fixed. Nothing like a bad haircut to put a damper on my day off work. Would not recommend Lauren or this location for Lunatic Fringe. read more

Honestly disappointed. Got a full highlight and it looks the exact same. Asked for a golden blonde and even showed a picture. I'm naturally a golden blonde so I thought he would know to go lighter since I ordered a highlight. Afterwards he asked me what I thought and I said it looks the same. I then got a lecture about how I told him the wrong color. Yet I showed him a picture. He should have asked for clarification if he was confused. After my lecture (with my hair honestly looked darker). He washed out the toner and it came through a little lighter. Then he admitted that it looks better and that he can actually see his work now that it's lighter. I appreciate that he offered and washed out the toner, but honestly sad with how my hair came out. So if you want to spend $280 for a wash and blow dry go to lunatic fringe. read more

They are so lovely and friendly here, and not just my stylists. Upon entering I'm always greeted immediately and offered a drink. Last time I treated myself to a baby can of San Pellegrino. Yum! The interior of the salon is incredibly stylish, with big windows, tons of natural light, and an all-around modern vibe. Prices are in line with other salons of this caliber. I think my cuts are usually $55. They offer discounts for a couple things: booking your follow up appointment when checking out from your service ($2 off that next appointment), a discount on products with your Yelp check in (The majority is Bumble and Bumble, but they may carry other brands), and they also host canned food drives, sales for holidays, and I think you get a special offer for your birthday too (sign up for emails). I've had my hair cut by both Lila and Lauren, and would recommend either to anyone. They are lots of fun and a pleasure to work with. This is important when you're spending about an hour together! My hair is long, and I have never had the experience anyone with a lengthy mane dreads: asking for "just a trim," and leaving with hair several inches shorter. I don't particularly enjoy maneuvering a car in this shopping center, but Lunatic Fringe has reserved spots specifically for their customers, and there is always at least one open. This is my favorite salon in the area, and I will continue to frequent it as I'm always very pleased with the results. read more

I never really cared about my hair because it was always up, but wanted to go blonde this summer and have some fun with it for once. Zach was recommended as the "blonde specialist" and has now become my best friend. I feel so beautiful every time I step into the doors and he somehow he has me leaving even prettier. I went here because it was a high end salon. I got completely butchered. I asked for a small layer at the ends and the stylist DESTROYED my hair, cutting out random ends and making me look like I desperately was in need of a haircut!!!!! I came back the next week to fix it and was charged ANOTHER CUT PLUS TIP, and I still don't like the way my hair looks. After 6 inches was cut off, all I can do is wear pony tails and wait for my hair to grow out again. Would NOT recommend. read more

I do not recommend going. I spent 350 at least. Had a long chat and was so excited to get my hair done because he promised I would leave with exactly what I wanted. I left with nothing I wanted. He refused to cut my hair how I wanted and "toned" my blonde but I left yellow and I said it's ok I'll purple shampoo it and he told me not too because it would damage my hair. It's been about 2 weeks and I am sufficiently less traumatized, though no less irritated at the incompetence. As stated previously, the manager, Jamie, arranged for me to come back the next day to fix the hack job that was an extension of Josh's scissors. Jamie did not introduce himself when I arrived, nor did he make a point to introduce himself at anytime during my visit (nor did he follow-up with a phone call). This is a huge faux pas for any salon and shows a complete lack of class. Pride in your work, who you are and the styles that are given are a reflection of your salon. Ultimately - not taking time to think about how to execute the cut Josh started with my bangs - they were un-even at best and looked horrible when I left the salon. He cut the bangs on the left and the right too short for the look I wanted. Leaving the pieces longer on the left and right would have elongated my face - instead the cut now accentuates the roundness and squareness of my face (exactly what I was trying to avoid). It looks the same as when I cut my bangs myself a year ago. After two weeks of trying different styling products and tools, I styled my hair this morning and am still disappointed. It will take at least 6 months (probably longer) to grow my hair out again so that I can achieve the look that I want; this is extremely disappointing given that I had grown my hair out for almost a year before visiting the salon. I felt the need to follow-up because I saw the cut I wanted on TV this morning and then I looked in the mirror - and it makes me feel a little bit sick - but mostly just sad. Wishing I had been paying more attention. If I had gone to a less expensive salon I could have given the stylist step-by-step instructions on how to execute the cut and the stylist probably would've taken more time to consider how to approach the cut before picking up his or her scissors. It is always frustrating to pay someone to do something when you could have done a better job yourself for free (yes I cut my own bangs last summer and everyone told me they looked great). read more

The person who cut my hair cut it way too short and I went somewhere else to get it fixed because it looked so bad. I left looking like a mormon general authority. I looked like a karen soccer mom. I'm in my 20s. I wanted something fun and cute. The reference picture was not even close to how my hair came out. I went to someone else and they said "I guarantee the person who did this went home and felt ashamed of what they did." The person who cut my hair cut it so short they took a buzzer to it. My hair went past my shoulders. That's months of length that I'm going to have to grow back. I have always gone to the cheapest salons in the past or used boxed hair dye at home and I was unsure what I was walking into. The studio was really cute and very clean. I was given Lauren as my hairstylist. I told her exactly what I wanted... basically everything opposite of what was currently going on. I had boxed red henna dye that had been bleached a few times and redyed over a few more times. I. Was. A. Giant. Mess. It's Christmas Eve and I figured they would be closed but I really needed a bang trim so I drove by anyway. As suspected they were closed but the owner was there redoing some displays. I was going to drive off but she invited me in and gave me a complimentary bang trim and even offered us drinks for our drive home. Amazing that the owner of this salon gave the day off to her employees and then came in and was working alone in the shop to get things ready for the new year. Excellent place. I've been hunting for a good salon since moving from Los Angeles and I've finally found it. I had my hair cut with Morgan and she was as good as it gets for mens hair cuts. She even offered to use a straight razor to trim my neck. Excellent scalp massage as well during the hair wash and rinse. She is also very talented with scissors and knows how to cut fine, straight hair properly. First thing she pointed out was that I had a cowlick and made sure to cut the hair properly so it wouldn't stick up in the back. I love this salon! Chaucie is by far the best stylist I've ever had. She does a great cut and color and always gets the length & shape exactly right. Horrible experience with a very incompetent stylist, Trevon. Hoping that a little feedback goes a long way. First, don't tell your client you don't have time for a full highlight when that is how the client booked their appointment (I even mentioned I had really thick hair) Second, take time to listen to what your client wants to have done with their hair. Your opinion of what looks good may not be the same as your clients. Third, if your hands are consistently shaking when cutting someone's hair you may want to consider a different profession.
