Love salami, I love cured meats in general. One day, I'd like to buy a pork leg and cure it myself. Now i just need to find a place that will sell me buckets of sea salt so I can do it myself. I've only been here once and it didn't rock my socks off, but it was close to it. I've had the italian melt, and salami stacker. Like I said, I love salami so I ordered two dishes. A huge collection of sandwiches, a few salads, a couple of soups, a few entrees. The entrees are pretty good, the salads are as they are listed on the menu, and most of the sandwiches are great. There are a few duds here and there (sundried tomatoes are weird to me), and they recently added a few new ones which weren't as great as their classics. I like the sandwiches but was very disappointed in the timeliness of my order. I ordered online first thing in the day for three sandwiches to be ready at 1pm before a lunch with friends. I arrived at 1pm and had to wait 25 minutes outside the store for the order to be made. Very frustrating. This place is ran by a bunch of children . Every time I order they add tomatoes even though I explicitly state I do not want tomatoes on my sandwich . They also forgot my extra dressing as I requested. Their delivery is terrible too . They take a long time and don't carry change even though I stated I will be paying cash . Sandwiches are cold and soggy by the time they arrived. Also I was accidentally charged almost double until I pointed out the mistake on the flimsy I -phone credit card machine. The appollo creed steak and cheese has the perfect blend of textures. This sandwich blows me away every time I have ordered it. It is hot, moist, flavorful, and never soggy! I know a lot of people who used to work there and I use to frequent this establishment until I spoke to those people about my last experience. To the customers who have found objects in their food...it is probably because they drop food on the floor...oh yes THEY DROP FOOD ON THE FLOOR!! I have actually spoken to former employees who recalled playing various games like "kick-ball " and "catch" with bread, meat, cheese and other ingredients. Food falling on the floor or in the trash, not washing hands before (or after) any activities such as handling money or using the bathroom, it's no wonder that I got as ill as I did. This mainly takeout place is not high on atmosphere (outside of the giant menu that creatively adorns the walls in every direction). While a bit slow it is a rare occasion that would have you leave with the feeling that you were not properly attended to while ordering, waiting or receiving your food. Ordered the Dagwood for my hubby and California Chicken for myself. The CA chicken was a little to spicy for me, so my hubby finished it off and loved it. He liked it better than his Dagwood. Both sandwiches were very fresh and I will for sure be going back to try others. Two things: 1. Call your order in (they take their time to make such awesome sandwiches). 2. Lunch Box Deli is a very respectable little sandwich shop. Be aware that there's pretty much no seating inside, so it's more of a carryout place. Some of the reviews point to the corned beef or reuben sandwiches. Skip those and go to one of the delis on the west side of town (Steve's, etc.) if you really want good beef. Instead, try one of their other sandwiches like the Bird (chicken, hummus, feta, spinach, sundried tomato). There's somewhat of a price premium here, but Grosse Pointe is sorely in need of good, independent shops and restaurants, so stomach the extra $1 or just go to Subway and support another massive corporation. read more

I discovered the joint yesterday when my sister and I dined in, sharing a California Chicken Wrap and a Chicado. Today I couldn't help myself, I went back for a take out order, and I'm writing this as I sit on my couch eating an Outlaw. I also ordered a Gambino for later. The enchilada soup reminds me of Max and Erma's tortilla soup, which is to say it's delicious. I have been to the lunchbox deli five times in the last two months and each visit was worse than the last. The food is extremely cheap low quality garbage, on my first visit I ordered the "ivan drago", it was awful ultra processed turkey on a stale roll with greasy cheap cheese. I tried a few different items and each one had the same low quality ingredients, and the heated sandwiches taste like they were thrown in a toaster oven for a few minutes. I had a salad that was decent and the soup wasnt too bad. The deli is fairly clean and the staff is average but on my last visit the manager or maybe owner stormed out of the back and started yelling at the girl taking my order while i was telling it to her, he continued to yell at employees with customers watching and hearing. I eat here frequently. They used to be amazing but over the past few months the quality of the food has declined. Salads are coming out with wilted lettuce and rotting avocado.
