    Corned beef pastrami combo!
    Vince G.

Had the corned beef pastrami sandwich and it was soooo good it's been a while since I've had a great sandwich this will be my new spot whenever in downtown!

    Marc D.

Should have followed my gut and went to Hygrade Deli where I know everything would have been ok. I was in there for a total of 30 mins (8 of which I won't hold against them, due to the lady in front of me not knowing exactly what she wanted to order ....) just for one sandwich and an order of fries to go. 2 people who ordered behind me got their food before I did. Fries were WAY over-salted, and both the sandwich (a "17 & 1/2 [corned beef and cole slaw]) and fries were both cold. I also asked for the cole slaw on the side, and while it was not on the sandwich, it was nowhere to be seen in my bag upon opening it after arriving back to my destination which was less than an eight minute drive away. ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR FIRST INSTINCT !!!

The best sandwich and soups in all of Detroit! I had the Corned Beef sandwich and it is so tasty and tender. The hot soup was awesome lots of chicken breast. Good prices. Excellent service and very clean.

Bacon Egg & Cheese Bagel - simply yummmm!

I don't go here often for corned beef anymore, but I love their bagel breakfast sandwiches!! So frikkin tasty. Call ahead, place your order, and it'll be ready for pick up in drive thru when you make it. Oh yea - Mom loves their pound cake also.

Louie's on Mack is the same price +/- and is MUCH better. The pastrami sandwich at BB was tough and not very flavorful. Won't return.

My favorite take out Corned Beef sandwich in Detroit area. Prices are around $12 but you get a hefty sandwich.

I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft or hard roll. Extras: Peppers (+.50) Cheese (+.50) - (Turkey is reserved for the "Other Subs). 6 Layers Meat, 1 Layer Cheese --- $8 8 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $9 12 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $12 14 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $13 18 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $14 The subs are heavy and delicious. Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

Every time I get a sandwich (I recommend corn beef!) with love spice and other meat and stuff, a faygo, and a bag of potato chips. This is the peak of food. The ambiance is awesome and you always see so many friendly faces. Remember: Bring cash! Used a card, and the cashier had to type it in manually (it was nice of them to do that). Now for the food - We got a few meats--turkey pastrami, corned beef and a "wildcard" (I let the staff pick, and whatever it was it was good). We also got the special spices etc. I do prefer a more of an Italian sandwich on a hard roll, so I'm not sure the soft onion roll is for me. If you like a cold sandwich un-toasted and generally basic with a bit of a twist, you will love this! My husband and I enjoyed the sandwich (split it, and they put mayo on half at my request). It's a charming spot, quality food and I'm glad we tried it. Skip the spicy potato salad. It was bland, sadly.

I have been a big fan of corned beef and pastrami for years but my go to is on the other side of the city not to far from Dearborn, there is a couple other delis in eastern market area, one I like and the other I think is outrageous and the people there are rude, well today I was in the mood for a good corned beef on rye, got looking at a few apps I have and I come across Champs which is in Gratiot Central market where I go to buy certain meats to grill and smoke, but I never have gone there to buy prepared food, well I'll tell you it was Very Good ! The place is simple ,it is clean, they have a cool old Ford truck in there well the have half of it but none the a nice place , and the lady that waited on me was very cool, I decided I wanted Pastrami Indian it was excellent the , it was not greasy which is what I like to see it was heated just right and got slaw on it and my bread wasn't a soggy mess, I thought the price point was very good for my sandwich which also came with 2 pickles that were good and my drink, And the info I read is this is a small business this isn't corporate owned this is someone or family doing it cause they love please try support small business they need it now more than ever , I thought it was very good I hope you do as well.
