I met Lune Noir at the OC Fair. Their matcha powder was just as good as the one I bought from Don Quijote. The owner, Moribe, radiates friendliness. Despite our language barrier, I enjoyed our conversation. My recent visit to Lune Noir boutique was quite interesting; the boutique offers a bit of everything, and its concept seemed a bit unclear. It's a cute locally owned boutique with kind of random inventory including Uggs, North Face, Kanken, some skincare, yoga gear, and some vintage-looking clothing items out front. It's worth to stop by if you're in the area and see if anything catches your eye. It was just too pricey for me, with a North Face windbreaker listed at $300. Conveniently located in the heart of Sawtelle Japantown with tons of good food, drinks, and dessert around. There's plenty of metered parking on the street but you can find free street parking a few blocks over in the residential areas. read more

I used to have positive experiences with Lune Noir, but after a recent racist experience during their anniversary event, I won't be coming back. (And I advise you all not to go, too.) There was a promotional stand in front of their store for their anniversary sale event (with advertising pottery, tea mixes, and other tea related goods displayed on it) as well as a clerk wearing a kimono manning the stand and giving tea samples to passersby. At the time my father and I first arrived, she was helping two customers out and giving them tea, so I decided to stand besides them and wait until she was more free to ask about a sample and the tea. She talked to them for a while and didn't look at all in my direction, despite me standing only a few feet away and right within her line of sight. (At the time, I assumed it was because she was busy helping them, so I waited and examined the pottery for a while.) However, it became very clear that she was deliberately snubbing me when she stopped speaking to the couple she was helping, just to greet a white and Asian couple passing by a distance behind me. I normally wouldn't assume something like this was done out of racism or colorism, but her refusal to greet me (or even look at me!), despite being more than willing to greet the other paler Asian and white customers, makes it hard for me to believe that this was an innocuous mistake. (For context, I'm a mixed-race Asian, but I am not East-Asian.) I honestly can't recommend going here any more, especially since the service no longer justifies the price of some of their products. Honestly, if you want something of similar quality and price (or even cheaper), I'd recommend stopping online (for kimonos/hanten/traditional clothing), going to boutiques in Little Tokyo or Koreatown (for causal clothes/jewelry), or just checking out the other shops in the area. (The shop across the street probably is the most similar in terms of jewelry, causal clothes, and other assorted goods, but the stores a few doors over also sell lovely clothes.) Overall, I do not recommend you shop here. This incident was pretty upsetting and shocking to me, especially since the other women who work here were quite friendly to me and my family in the past. :( TL;DR: Do not shop here, the clerk will ignore you in favor of Japanese, East Asian, or white customers. The prices are high, and you can find items of the same or better quality elsewhere. read more

This store is ridiculous. The woman working there is incredibly rude. Do NOT support this store, I saw her screaming at a customer trying to return clothes and the customer was actually being really nice. The clothes aren't even cute - spend your money elsewhere. I will never be returning. read more

I found this store when I went to B sweets, next door. They have a great selection of famous clothing brands such as DVF, J Brand and Rails. I bought Jack Vanek shirts here, and so far this is the best one in shirts. Don't forget to buy their famous wrapping papers. They look vintage maps, but wrapping papers which I bought so many of... I often receive their store event. One of my favorite event is Craft Fair. So many great local designers joined and show/sell direct. I heard they have that kind of the event once a year. Stop by here during Uglycon. Great little place with all kinds of gifts and clothing. Would love to have gotton a pair of sunglasses here but I didn't need it since I'm still rocking a pair. The two girls here were super nice and welcoming. They were very interested in my tattoo which I thought was cool. Great selection on shoes and Volcom items.
