What's especially frustrating is the performative feedback loop: they solicit input on the BOPIS experience but show no genuine interest in understanding how their customer base actually interacts with their last standing U.S. location at Ala Moana. If you're going to ask for feedback, do something with it. And if your online inventory doesn't reflect what's actually in store, why offer BOPIS at all? The tool exists precisely to bridge that gap -- using it poorly is worse than not using it. At a deeper level, this might be a mismatch between high-trust brand culture and a low-trust customer environment -- made worse by the fact that their own tools are clearly designed for low-trust interactions. Having recently experienced afternoon tea in London, I was inspired to walk into Lupicia, while shopping at A La Moana, to see what they had. To my surprise, they had many decaf options available which is right up my alley. Although Lupicia has many "display only" tea leaves, not all options are available as they are out of stock. For example, loose leaf decaf earl grey was out of stock. Bummer! However, the Decaf Muscat and Decaf Momo (peach) looked good. Although I could not sample these particular teas, Lupicia was serving samples of their "tea of the day" which was White Sangria which was served cold and it was delicious. When I asked the salesperson their recommended way of brewing, she admitted that she wasn't a loose leaf tea drinker and to look on the bag for instructions. After brewing a pot of Decaf Muscat at home, I have to say the tea was fragrant and flavorful. As for the Decaf Momo, I haven't tried it yet, but I have high expectations. TEA -- The tea here is amazing. What I like about this place is that there are tins placed across the store, that you can open so you can smell how that particular tea smells like. This gives you an idea how that tea may taste. They also offer matcha powder but because of the worldwide shortage, they don't always have it in stock. I've tried their cheapest option for matcha and I was honestly impressed with the quality of it, despite it being not 'ceremonial grade.' SERVICE -- The workers are generally nice. I've had loose leaf tea that I'd requested to be transferred on a tin can container, which they give you an extra charge of about $2. Because of the matcha shortage, you would need to request to be put on a waitlist to be able to get your hands on it. The first time that I've asked to be put on a waitlist, the older lady was nice about it. But the second time, on other day, a younger lady made it a bit confusing -- I'm not even sure if I am on the waitlist or not. AMBIANCE -- The place is organized. Though they have tables that display their featured tea, my favorite part about the store is the long bar across the wall that has all the tea selection in tins. You are able to open each tin to smell it to get a sense, an idea of how the tea will taste like. It makes tea selection a bit more efficient if you don't care too much about presentation and care more about the tea itself. read more

Everytime I come here it's like I am in a tea museum. Always in an awe. The smell is so calming and I just wanna stay here the whole time. I adore this tea shop in Ala Moana Center on the Lanai side. They got plenty of choices when it comes to flavor from loose to bag. Unique flavors like ratatam, matcha black soybean rice tea & their Hawaii exclusive teas. They also sell tea pots & serving cups which is by the way very pretty in which some are made in Japan. I love teas and I always get their green tea & chamomile when I'm here. I also tried their matcha & elderberry. They are pretty tasty and love the pure flavor. The staffs here are nice and would love to assist you when you need one. Sooo I have to always scope out the local tea places and read reviews to see where I'm going to go. This place was top of my list and I made a shopping list of what I wanted before I went. Which actually helped because the staff member that helped me out was able to explain which ones I'd like better based on flavor I was looking for. I ended up getting the Paradise Green and the Momoko. I couldn't wait to try so I opened the paradise green. It's so delicious. Has great flavor. Light tropical taste. Love it. Be sure to follow directions for brewing. Also got a cute mug and some tea strainers. Upon entering this store it's amazing. Bright and beautiful! Smells great and is very organized!! I go here because I don't really.habe anywhere else to go. They have tons of different teas and too many employees. They are always busy packing or unpacking something but none of them seems to know much about tea. If you ask, they get snobby, but can't answer questions about the teas. It is also rather expensive compared to what I've been able to buy in other countries. Still, I enjoy loose leaf teas and don't like the prepackaged teabags. I'm not really a tea drinker, but I get dragged along to every tea shop within a 50 mile vicinity of wherever my wife is at... This place is located in the downstairs garage area of the Ala Moana center. I had never heard of it, but my wife apparently had so off we went! Walking in, the location is lighted really well and you immediately see the wide assortment of teas (both packaged and in bins so you can pick and choose tog et what you want packed. They also have an assortment of tea accessories like steepers, pots, and other knickknacks that I have no clue about. The employees were helpful and gave the wife a few recommendations. All in, it was a good experience. I don't know much about teas, but I'm sure there were varieties available that you cannot normally get elsewhere, which is why I got dragged here. My dad and my grandpa are avid tea drinkers. More so my grandpa. Whenever he goes to Guangzhou each year, he'll always visit his favorite tea shop and buy a lot of tea. His suitcase was half tea and half clothes lol. His favorite is Tieguanyin. He'd purchase the same tea from different areas. I was there for one of his visits! My dad's favorite is pu'er. He doesn't drink often, but collects them. The longer, the better. If you've had 50-year old pu'er, you know what I'm talking about. You can't get 50-year old pu'er here (anywhere trustworthy...anyway), but you can get your regular pu'er or tieguanyin and a vast amount of other teas at Lupicia located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center, center, ground level, facing Target. You can't miss it! I've been to Lupicia several times, but never purchased anything for myself since I have great sources for tea. This store hasn't changed at all since the first day it opened many, many years ago. It was here before the expansion! Very organized, spacious, bright, and clean. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Almost every single employee asked us if we were doing okay. It's been a while since I stepped foot into this store, and you have to appreciate the vast selection of teas from different parts of the world. Every tea is (was, due to covid) displayed with information. You used to be able to smell the tea from canisters. We got a green tea, and a couple of herbal teas. The aroma is strong and pleasant. The taste of them is very clean and fresh. Overall, Lupicia is a one of a kind store in Hawaii with so many selections of tea. You can purchase single loose pouches or in tea bags. I stumbled upon this store on the way to Nijiya, but I found the interior to be very aesthetically pleasing so I made a detour inside. I didn't realize this was a tea store, and it had a crazy extensive selection of black teas and green teas! There were so many different blends for purchase including sizing, loose leaf vs tea bags, and packaging. You can tell that this store cares very much about their tea because each package has very specific instructions for steeping. Everything smelled absolutely amazing! I personally loved that there were so many interesting fruit variations. I spent a long time browsing and ended up purchasing some of their exclusive Hawaiian tea blend tins and a Lychee barley tea as souvenirs for my family. This is one of those SMH moments where I've been checking in on Yelp, drinking their teas and haunting their online website for years without writing a review....YEARS! What is wrong with me? Why have I not written anything about one of my favorite shops on the entire planet before?! What's not to love about having an entire store dedicated to tea, and every single type of tea you can imagine, with a ton of different flavors including one of my all-time faves Red Pepper Oolong (great when you are feeling sick) and Jingle Bells, which only comes out around Christmas time (black tea, champagne, fruity flavors). I brew Jingle Bells by the pitcher-fulls and my teenager drinks the whole thing, it's that good, and I don't even use sweetener. Lupicia Hawaii store also has limited edition Hawaii-only flavors, like Anela, Huaki, Lanikai, Kuuipo, etc, which are pretty as they are flavorful: sprinkles of dried flowers, fruits, herbs and tiny sugar beads in some of the blends. Japanese tea available in America. My best friend loves the tea from here and I dropped by to pick up teas to bring home for her. The staff here is great! They are so nice and helpful. While I was FaceTime-ing with her, they would grab the items and pack them for me. They were also able to answer questions and find alternatives if a tea wasn't carried anymore. When I was in Japan, I used to buy their tea constantly but honestly I had no interest to buy their tea here because I couldn't assume there is one made in Hawaii. However once I had Hawaii limited flavored tea, I changed mind 180 degrees. Cold oolong tea with tropical fruits hint was so delicious. No bitterness and just fresh light fruity flavor left in my mouth. Very refreshing. The cashier gave me a sample tea bag too. As a tea addict, I switch between Ito En and Lupicia Tea. Lupicia has a large selection of teas, with my favorite being the momo oolong super grade. All of the teas I've tried thus far have a gentle and delectable taste and aroma. You'll notice that all the bad reviewers are anti-maskers or those who refuse to give good reviews unless their tea products are less than $1 (broke much.....), while the good reviewers are tea connoisseurs and enthusiasts, and normal people. Bought tea before last year. Tea was great! Service was excellent. However, on Nov. 8, 2024, I wanted to get more of their great tasting tea. Signs say they open at 10:00 AM, I had a flight to catch at 1:00 PM, with Honolulu traffic and TSA and car return traffic, anyone who has been in Honolulu airport would agree I would be pushing it if I waited until they opened. However, I waited while the staff went about setting up their holiday displays while multiple waited for the store to open. But instead of opening the store and making a sale, they decided to tell the waiting customers, who were already watching the employees setup boxes of tins of tea that they wouldn't be opening for another 30 mins. At this point i couldn't afford to wait any longer. If i was the manager i would open the store for the waiting customers, especially if I was told that had to catch a plane to make their purchases and if they could avoid the section the employees were actively setting up (if they were concerned about bystanders getting hurt or people stealing). But hey, who am I but just a customer who wanted to get some tea before heading home. True they have a web-site but do I want to support a company with this type of customer service? read more

Wandering around Ala Moana Shopping Center can be draining. This is the world's largest outdoor mall! Searching for a healthy refreshment, Jules and I turned to tea. We each had received a tin of green tea from Lupecia from Randy S. and we both enjoyed it! Lupecia has so many varieties of tea from all over the world. The tea comes loose in a sealed bag, loose in a package in a tin, or already bagged for your convenience. Some teas were flavored with chocolate, cookies, ginger, etc. There were about 200 variations, including exclusive Hawaiian teas! Each tin is labeled and you can open the container to catch the fragrance! The service is really amazing. We were warmly greeted and offered samples. Jules wanted to try two flavors and they made us fresh, hot samples right there! Wow! I was so impressed! So I bought 6 packages of Hawaiian tea at $10 each and got a free yuzu tea. I like how you can smell their teas but wish there were samples you can taste. I've never heard of Lupicia until I saw their tea offerings at the Mitsua market nearby. I love love love tea and this was heaven. It's decorated so beautifully with waves of tea shelves in 3 levels along the ceiling and so many different kinds of tea I almost lost my mind. The teas are in tins and I smelled a bunch and ended up getting the Au chocolat. They sell mostly in 50g bags or 10 tea bag packets. A nice lady walked up and gave us samples of the Lanikai tea which was so refreshing and tropical I knew I had to get some. They have some HI exclusive blends which is so cool and the Lanikai was truly special. I bought 2 tin jars to bring home and the artwork on it is so pretty! The checkout process took a bit long but it was fine, they also offered me a sample of the chocolate strawberry puer tea, which I love! I can't wait to try out the teas and on a particularly stressful day to sit down with a cup of Lanikai and think of HI again. Highly recommend, also thought it was fairly reasonably priced, the Lanikai tin was $11 each and my 50g of chocolate tea was $7. read more

Wouldn't recommend the matcha. I originally wanted to get the 20g $24 tin from kyoto but the lady told me to instead get the 100g bag (it was also $24)... i asked a lot of questions because i was skeptical of the quality. she assured me it was a vibrant green and good quality, but when i got home and opened it, i was disappointed. i really wanted to like it but the color was so dull (compared to other matcha brands i've tried). i have a cheap ito en bag of matcha from sam's club (i think) which is kind of a dull green and the bag i bought from lupicia looked exactly the same. i would recommend saving your money and just buying the sam's club bag of matcha because they look and taste almost identical. if you're just looking to try a new matcha and don't care much about the color or quality i would recommend the lupucia one but personally i wouldn't spend my money on it again! felt pretty disappointed though because i originally wanted to buy the other tin which was higher quality but the worker talked me out of it and assured me the bag i bought was just as good... it wasn't :( read more

Being a newbie when it comes to tea preparation and drinking I thought coming to Lupicia would be a great idea..... Lupicia located on the Mauka street level side of the Ala Moana Shopping Center, close to the Keeaumoku entrance. As you walk into Lupicia you'll notice the wide variety of teas, I mean huge! I was in search of a tea to drink in the morning instead of coffee, just didn't need that caffeine blast and felt better sipping on tea while easing into the day. Since I have been drinking and enjoyed black teas in the past, this is what I was planning on purchasing. Service wasn't what I expected coming from a place specializing in teas. Maybe because I was being helped from a new worker, he couldn't answer any of my questions.. Hey I'm the newbie! I did request to sample two teas that I was interested in before I made made a purchase and found out that they'll only let you sample only one, I found that strange. What I did end up buying was 50g loose leaf tea of Earl Grey OP, found it really mild,delightful and a very enjoyable tea to drink. Also picked up a labeled tin to place the tea inside, perfect size for 50ml of loose tea. My expectancy coming here was to get great customer service and get a little education on the vast variety of teas they carry, but that didn't happen. I'll be back to try more and hopefully experience some of their knowledge about the products they carry....crossing my fingers! *Overall 3.5Stars...3 for Service and 4 for the Tea quality. read more
