I like to browse around this store. The staff aren't pushy but are available if needed. The products are very attractively presented and the smell of all the soaps when I walk into the store, bowls me over. I love the fresh face masks from the salad bar and the fig soap is another of my favorites. I've been the multiple lush shops and I love lush and all their products but if you're looking for that clean lush experience with nice helpful employees DONT GO TO THIS ONE. Honestly, making the trip to San Francisco would be a better experience than showing up at this one and getting slammed with invasive questions and aggressiveness. When you go into a store you expect to be treated courteously and respectfully as you are usually throwing down good money. I have been to this location several times and the last 2 have been horrible. I asked about a specific product and wasn't directed to it, I had to find it myself. I asked if she could cut the bar in half (which they do! And they charge you by weight) as I hadn't tried this specific product and was worried it wouldn't work. She said no we can cut the piece any smaller and the smallest they went was $15.00 or so. She offered no sample at all. This blonde employee kept following my best friend and I around the store. I really like Lush Products and shop at the SF store often. However, the employees of this particular lush store in Hillsdale mall are really creepy. They follow you where ever you go asking "How are you doing?" ,"Did you have any questions about anything?" I answer them politely that i do NOT have any questions and that I can help my self, 3 mins later same person comes up again to ask me the same questions. Dudette! Just leave me alone. I love this place. I love the staff. Love love love Went one day after work with my kids. We played, we tried stuff, we got samples. We did not buy anything. We were still treated as if we were million dollar customers. Went back a couple days later so that I could purchase a going away gift for my co-worker. This time, yes girl, I had some money. Got my co-worker some great great products to spoil herself with - golden handshake, lip scrub, respect your elders soap, lotion, and lots of other stuff, and got my daughters - Teo's deodorant (OMG it works, really really works) for my oldest, helping hands lotion for my middle (she loves it), bath bombs for my little. I got myself some stuff, too - Hottie massage bar& tin and the rough with the smooth scrub bar. Went back a couple days after that to show my oldest where she could now purchase her deodorant bar, she got some face samples and a bar of soap - which they cut down no problem from a larger bar. We spent less than $10 that day, and again were treated so well. One of the girls, did a hand scrub on me and we had great conversation about the products and customer service. Manager is super sweet. How I came upon Lush - There was a lotion I had tried previously at L'occitane and when I went back to get it the salesgirl just looked uninterested and a bit bothered by my kids (15 and 12) trying the lotions, etc. So I said Eff That and happened to walk in Lush. Glad I did, so much more than just bath bombs (who knew). I should have done the whole Pretty Woman thing and walked back with my bags from Lush - BIG MISTAKE! lol (look it up on you tube youngins) I never feel pressured to buy, all the staff are super knowledgeable about their products, the fact they give you samples before you invest in a semi-pricey lotion or scrub is awesome. And again, the staff is wonderful. Whoever does the hiring is a really good judge of character. I'll be visiting again this week or next to pick up more of those T'eos! And my little requested to have her birthday party there (changed her mind from skydiving, go figure) read more

I like this store. It is non assuming and small. The sales people are friendly but not overbearing. It is tucked away upstairs in a not-so-crowded mall which probably means that their sales numbers are low compared to the other Bay Area Lush stores, but I like that I don't have to sidestep other customers. It also means they have the BEST after holiday sales. The store should consider moving to a better spot downstairs for more traction and visibility. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the LUSH brand. I like that I can physically identify the ingredients in their products, and their employees are usually super friendly and attentive when I mention my allergies - I'm allergic to lavender, which is in pretty much EVERYTHING. As a brand, HIGHLY recommend LUSH. This store, however, no. Move on. A lot of these reviews for the Hillsdale location mention the employees, and they're fairly true. Today for example: I came into the store, on a whim, to get some beard scrub for my boyfriend. He's used the KALAMAZOO before and loved it. Now, I have to mention, I am a pretty jumpy person. Like, if someone comes up suddenly behind me, I'll get very startled. I walked into this store and about 2 minutes into me being there, Lush employee Roy walked up behind me (without me seeing him) and asked if he could help me. I nearly jumped out of my skin! I immediately tried to apologize and explain that I'm easily frightened, but he didn't give me the chance. After I gasped/jumped he gave me a huffy "*uck* ok..." and an eye-roll and walked away before I could apologize. Not only did it make me feel like an idiot, but it was also incredibly rude. I will be coming back to LUSH, but I will not be returning to this location. read more

Just hosted a birthday party here and Abbey and her crew made sure it was amazing. Our guests had a great time and loved the demos of bath bombs, trying the face masks, and making their own bath bombs to take home. Staff made everything super easy for me and were fun and friendly. They took care of every detail and even checked on spelling each guest's name correctly for their take-home bags. They were great about answering questions during the shopping spree, so each girl ended up very very happy with their products. I'd highly recommend this store for parties - our guests all talked about how much fun they had. Thank you guys for working so hard on our event, you really made it memorable! read more

Forced me to buy something I don't want!!! I have been to other lush stores and have had a good experience every time. There was a nice guy who greeted me and my boyfriend in the store and liked that we were noticed. For this who come to lush, we know that a lot of their products are hands on and are out for you to smell, touch, and even sample. As I was taking my time looking around the store, I saw this gift set that was open and so I grabbed a container of shower jelly to look at the product and touched it with my hands. The woman behind the counter told me since I opened it I have to pay for it. This is so ridiculous because I have never in my life had to pay for something I touched. Id understand if I dropped it and somehow destroyed it or something but it was perfectly the same way it was before I even touched it. I'm never coming back to this lush store again! I do love lush products and have been using them off and on for many years. I decided I wanted to change my face wash I usually use to one of lush's all natural products/rolls. My husband was nice enough to drive us down to San Mateo so I can ask some questions about the products. The place was pretty busy when we got there and my husband decided to stay out of the store with our son. The store is very small and not very stroller friendly. I asked someone for help and was pretty much told here us this and nothing else will work for you. I asked for a sample since I didn't want to spend $30 on something and my face would freak out. The lady who was helping me said, "okay." She walked to the counter and then started helping other people. I'm a little annoyed by this time and about 5 min later someone walks to me and hands me my sample. I asked how I used the product since I never have before and then I got attitude from the sales guy. I was happy to get a sample, I tried it out for 4 days and loved it! But I decided to go to stonestown and try their lush out and their customer service is way better! 2 stars for the sample and selling products that don't test on animals. read more

Super happy to visit Lush anytime! I believe in their products and the story behind the company. However, my experience was a bit disappointing. I was hoping to get a bath bomb demonstration since it;s one of the few items I rarely use. No demos going on. I loved the variety of products but I felt that with so many employees on the floor they should have informed the customers a little more of what goes into some of the products or what is new and currently features for this month. Asking for samples is a hard thing to do because I don't want to offend anyone by asking but the reason why so many people ask is that there might be a possible reaction but we need to test it out. Though I did make a purchase, I still was left with a nasty taste in my mouth because the staff didn't seem prepared about the products and I wanted them to make me feel like I was coming in to visit, a welcoming atmosphere would be nice. You are working at one the best companies on the planet that actually pays it forward to the community and consumers. Maybe it was the location but I hope that this doesn't happen again. I have never been so impressed by an employee in my entire life!! I was never really into lush until I met Hannah. She is so knowledgeable and her smile couldn't brighten up any room. All the other employees are way to in your face and it has turned me away before, but hannah is friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. It is because of her that I am not in love with lush. She was the only girl on the floor that seemed to be working hard and I applaud her work ethic. read more

I love Lush products but I am so tired of not being able to walk into the store and just look around. Employees are constantly coming up to me every minute asking if I want to try this and that, handing me baskets so I can buy more things. Even someone asked me if I wanted to buy something right after I just purchased a few things! I just find it annoying. I appreciate the help but I can't go back into this store. read more

After reading these reviews, there is something definitely wrong with how salesclerks from this store are treating their customers. To start, this rating should have no stars. We had a similar experience where my sixteen year old was in search to possibly buy a product from the store, but was only "forced" by a salesclerk to pay out of her allowance to pay this $24.95 jar of cream that she did not intend to buy after opening the jar by mistake. Jars were not sealed. I don't agree how they had handled their situation with making her pay when she didn't test nor sampled the product. Luckily, the store manager was at the counter, where I took the purchase back to the store and had expressed my dissatisfaction where I had felt that it was not right for them to have her pay for it out her own pocket. It is unfortunate that this bad experience had happened where we will not set foot into this store. read more
