I had the most wonderful experience at Sephora-Burlingame. It started 14 months ago with a complete makeover and has continued ever since. Today I restock my product and I met Chris and Sam. Oh my gosh not only did they listen to I needed they made a suggestion because I wanted waterproof mascara, but I didn't know if I wanted volume or length and then on top of it, they mentioned the. R removal of the mascara because it is waterproof. They never once tried to oversell me. They never once made me feel guilty for buying just two items. They were professional, warming and listened, and as I am an older woman, they respected what I was saying. I came in on a Sunday in the afternoon. I couldn't find anyone to help me. Usually ppl always run up and try to help. I also couldn't find makeup remover to get the testers off my hand. Pros: this is a pretty big store compared to other local Sephoras. Hardly ever a line. Staff is pretty helpful. Cons: this store in particular rarely has the items I'm looking for. I end up having to go to another Sephora to get it. They also rearranged the store recently and the new layout is overwhelming and confusing. read more

This was one of the weirdest experiences I've had at a Sephora before. The service seemed not on point. They were very reluctant to engage and when they did, didn't seem to listen much. This location didn't have a lot of stock. Some displays had no product, most had at least a few gaps. When I inquired for additional stock in a lipstick color, their back stock was quite bare. Alla is rude. There was a line at the register and she came to grab the the person in front of me in line and myself to check out at the front. I said "what if the person up here is done first since she was midway through her checkout. I'll wait here" alla rolls her eyes and says "she's going to take the person after you to the front too" So, I proceed to listen and follow her. Of course, like I suspected would happen, the person behind me was helped before I was and the person in front of me took forever to check out. I pointed it out to alla and she rolled her eyes and said "maam everyone is getting helped." I said "then what's the point of the line" she said "whatever". I asked for her name. She said "actually I'm going to have the manager check you out" just so I can wait longer as she took her sweet time to walk to the back to spite me. Manager was friendly and gave me samples, but i have experienced one too many rude employees with bad attitudes at this location to not leave a review at this point. I arrived at the store and was flocked and warmly greeted by lovely sales women. Blimey! Moreover, the store was neat and well organized. I perused their products from fragrance to lipsticks to eyeliner. Since it was my first time here I asked a lovely young sales woman to assist me. She assumed I was shopping for a gf but I politely corrected her. She gave a sheepish smile. Like so...:D Anyways, she was helpful in assisting me and narrowing it down so I can make an executive decision. Prices were on a high end. Yesterday my Mother and sister were looking for some products at such store. When my family arrived they were not greeted and instead were followed around the store without offering any assistance. this store is disgusting and SO dirty. the floor is covered in hair, dust and squashed makeup smears. the displayed have makeup all over them, dusty, containers knocked open and spilling, and again hair! not to mention the amount of packaging i saw covered in dust, makeup handprints etc. obviously makeup stores you're going to see the occasional stain or two but the amount of full white displays of brands that were painted with product was disgusting. everything felt very unsanitary and dirty. coming off a post covid era you'd think cleanliness, in a beauty product store especially, would still be at the top of their list. i'm all for staff not working every moment of their shift but if i was an employee and saw an entire display knocked over that i was standing near id at least pick it up. read more

This location is small and doesn't often or ever carry the products I typically buy online. Can't try before I by then which doesn't help. The service is not good here either. I tried to return something that was delayed in shipment and their return policy is too strict now even as a rouge VIB. I finally received my online order after a two week delay. When I finally found time to make a return, I was two days after the order date. So forgiveness. She just said, "well, you did order during a holiday season." Unpleasant experience with staff. I had an item held for pickup and the woman at the counter was rude and visibly bothered when I told her I only had a screenshot of the confirmation code (I didn't have internet to go back to the email). She went on about how I needed to bring the barcode even though she quickly found it with the info I gave to her. After that, she rudely asked me for my ID and said "I can't give the item to just anyone, you know". It was very patronizing, as it made me feel like she didn't think I was the person purchasing the item. I was taken aback by her rudeness because up until this point I didn't give her any form of resistance. I just wanted to pick up my product and give her as much info as possible. When we finished up she went on about how I needed to bring the barcode next time and continued to have a very entitled and patronizing attitude with me. Keep in mind, she never looked me in the eye. I didn't catch her name but she had short dark hair, is an asian woman and maybe in her 50s or early 60s. I think Sephora at this location needs to train their staff better in treating customers professionally and having more patience. I have mild rosacea (redness and hyper sensitive skin) and have been on the hunt for some products to create a gentle skin care routine. I see I failed to update my review after being trailed around this store like a criminal because I took a little video *of a display--not even of people--and was not even saying a word* and, instead of simply approaching me and asking me to stop because of store policy (which was NOT POSTED ANYWHERE), the secret service started whispering around me, and security kept saying "how you doing! everything ok?" as if I didn't catch on. I was a very frequent customer at this store (people who recognized me were even working that day) and won't even go in now. I'm not a huge fan of this place. Such an uncomfortable shopping experience. I used to work at another location before so I know sometimes the store can get chaotic, and this was exactly the case today as I came in on a Saturday. First of all, the store is extremely cramped. You can barely walk through the aisles to get what you need because there's literally no room. Second of all, multiple sales associates continuously kept following me around and asked me numerous times if I needed help after I told them I was fine. Mind you, I was also on the phone with AirPods in my ears to drown out the noise and avoid being bothered, yet they were persistent. One of the best things I liked of this Sephora is that no one bothers going after you and asking if you need something (normally I don't like being asked, as I know what I want...mostly explore and find out new products and colors)...the thing I liked less is that smell. It smelled terribly, maybe because so many restaurants nearby? Not sure if that was happening only the day I visited, but it bothered me a lot, as it was interfering with the smells of the perfumes I was trying and generally speaking you don't expect a beauty supply store to smell like fried broccoli. I had a great time beautifying myself and using that mirror that offers you different styles that can suit you, then you select those colors and take a pic that is sent to your phone with all the products that they used for that combination. She was then dismissive...so empathy so "I am so sorry but this is not returnable for exchange...I then handed it to her to throw away and she said she couldn't throw it away inside the store. I asked why not...she spoke so quickly I didn't follow...I asked "are you saying someone would go through the garbage and find it and conclude it was from this store? "Yes we check the garbage. Had a very troubling experience here yesterday. Came with a friend who is new to make up, I've actually worked in the beauty industry on and off for many years so thought it would be nice to have her have a consultation for some new products. We know you can't try anything on anymore due to covid but the sales associate told her that since she's so dark it's going to be extremely difficult to find her color. I was shocked so right away I said ok well maybe you can point us to a couple brands you think we should check out on our own and he immediately took us to fenti and showed her the darkest color, keep in mind she's not that dark.. then compared her to Rihanna saying Rihanna is very light toned in comparison. There is always someone asking if you need something but then running away and not truly wanting to do that for you. I had an exchange and there was an error on the receipt. Instead of acknowledging she insisted I not get credit back therefore stealing my money. The principle here is that this staff member chose to not investigate the error or contact me to rectify. I think I can locate her employee number or whatever on the receipt . This location should be operating with pristine service it is in Burlingame instead the service awful. read more
