I have been a Luso regular for the past 6 years, the food has always been good and service are usually attentive, but I decided yesterday it the last time I would visit them. On Sunday night me and my wife arrived at the restaurant, we were quickly seated, but for over 10 minutes no one came to us to take our order, the Rodizio,we had to wave the server down and give him our order. Appetizer such as salad, fries, and rice were quickly served, as we patiently awaited for our food, to our surprise,the meat server would come out, go around the house serving other tables, pass us and head back straight to the kitchen, as we waited and waited, they finally came out with another batch of meat, but the same thing happened, after a few times of this same incidents, we started to waving them down and stop them as they pass by to "force" them to serve us. And then the unimaginable happened, the meat servers must have figured out that we are watching and started to actually play "hide and seek" just to avoid us completely, they would zig zag around and actually speed up as they approach the kitchen and pretend they didn't see us, I witnessed one guy almost fell over as he tried to skip hop into the kitchen, an hour and half into our meal, we did not even get our first round of meat, and I can clearly tell the kitchen is getting ready to close down as they started cleaning the grill, as our server was sitting at the bar having a blast with his buddies.My wife got really upset and actually questioned the server why we were being intentionally ignored, the guy was actually embarrassed that he was caught and tried to offer bring out some of meats of our choices, but unfortunately whatever he brought out looked like some left over and was basically inedible. I understand it is Sunday night and they are probably tired from a busy weekend, but no way in hell this is how they should treat their customers.We are Luso regulars and I was confused by this behavior because we thought we had a good relationship with the staff, so this is will be the last time we give them our business because is such a shame. read more

The food is great and i usually like coming here, but for some reason the last two times i went, we have been ignored by our waiter. In certain instances he would make eye contact with us, and walk passed without saying a word, even though everyone at the table's drinks were empty and we all ordered rodizio. We were a party of 6 and went on a Friday night around 6pm. Amazingly, we were able to get a table right away. By time 7pm rolled around, the place was packed and people were waiting for a table. The place is very clean and no foul odor. The decor and ambiance is simple and nothing fancy, but the noise level wasn't bad even with it becoming crowded. Service began with one waiter bringing water, another bringing bread and butter and a third bringing salads and olives. All the side dishes are served family style and it all comes with an assortment of vegetables, french fries (crunchy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, the perfect fry), home made potato chips (awesome) and rice that was cooked to perfection. The sides are all you can eat, so if you want more, just ask. Not a single meal ordered was bad, we all tried a little of each others. I had the grilled swordfish and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked; you could cut it with a fork. My wife had the half chicken and it was moist, yet cooked throughout and the BBQ sauce added a nice flavor to it; definitely different from typical BBQ. I came here for a friend's party. We took over about half of the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and very kind. The appetizers (Chorizo, Shrimp and Fried Calamari) were delicious. The entrees (I tried bites of a few) were all amazing. I had the the Swordfish which was cooked perfectly and was an extremely generous portion for the price. The family style sides took the guesswork out of deciding which ones to order with your meal. They weren't anything to write home about but it was still nice to not have to pick between rice, fries, house made potato chips, salad and steamed veggies. My friend decided on the Rodizio (unlimited meat) which gives you sample sizes of 9 different types of meats, as many as you want until you're full. Every piece of meat she got I tried of course. I have never eaten more flavorful, perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked meat at any restaurant. Its a little pricy but when you consider that you're essentially getting unlimited steak, pork, duck, chicken, chorizo and bacon wrapped turkey... how can you pass that up? When I go back with my family, I definitely plan on going for the Rodizio with a large glass of their white sangria. Best to go here if you're hungry and ready for a big meal. read more

I was excited to try the Rodizio for my birthday dinner. We went to Luso this past Thursday night and we were really dissapointed. First of all, the place was dead. There were only two other tables and the staff was just standing around. Despite that, the service was pretty slow and at the end of the meal we had to get up to find a server to get our check. Even though the service was mediocre, the low score is less about the service and more about the food. The sides and shared extras on the table (chips, rice, etc.) were the only bright spot. The rest of the meal was almost inedible. I don't know if it was just a one night problem, but the Rodizio meats and the rest of the entrees were so spicy it was painful to eat. What good is "all you can eat meat" if it's too spicy to put in your mouth? I've been to several other Rodizio style places and have never been disappointed before. We will not be back. read more

I like Luso, it is a great Portuguese steak house. The food is delicious, very flavorful. My favorite thing on the menu is the porter house steak. The environment is great, the prices are great. The one thing I dislike is the tentativeness to the customers. The servers are nice, but it takes them forever to get to you when you need them. I loved Luso's when they were in their smaller Smithtown location. We loved to go there when the weather was good and eat lunch outside. It was a very intimate setting, which they lost since they moved to the new location next to the railroads tracks. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside, there's a strange inner room that breaks up the flow, but it does keep the sound very quite. Unfortunately it also causes the staff to have to trek really far from the kitchen, so they can't be as attentive as they were at the smaller location. The food is still magnificient, I had a special Suckling pig, which probably had way to much pepper spicing for the normal restauranteur, but I love spicy food so it was great, although I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. They serve homemade chips, salad and black beans and rice with entrees which are all well made. Ask for the chili oil and dip the chips in. You can thank me later. A great meal for a family or even a date. Louisa the owner is a great owner, she engages, brings out specialty dishes at request as well. The place was PACKED on a Saturday night so certainly plenty of people love Luso. Most seemed to be regulars. For me, the service was painful. We ordered the rodizio and it was near impossible to get any food. The servers were working hard but there just weren't enough of them. This is a big restaurant so they're running all over. Food was fine...some meats better than others, particularly the chewy strip steak. We didn't get to try everything because it just took way too long and we couldn't wait to get out of there. THE BEST!!! I have been eating this family's food for over 25 years. Everything is great. The Radizio is a great deal I have visited with a crowd and couple and alone MANY MANY TIMES. I have never seen the staff or owner watch a table or give anyone a hassle about the rules or the no sharing, etc. The owner hardly ever hangs around, she make a round thru the place once in a while and will chat with familiar regular customers or friends. I just LOVE the Sunday special: Grilled Platter. It's for two but easily is a meal for 4 or more. I take 3/4 of it home after my wife and I have our fill. Deserts are out of this world. They have the best flan and the Heavenly Whites are amazing. The side are great, I love the fresh home-made french fries and potatoe chips. Family style fries and salad are included with everything. I have been to Luso on several occasions and am always impressed. I think what I love best is its simple. You know when you order exactly what you're getting. No fancy names, no frills, you order chicken, you're getting a piece of chicken. As simple their menu is, the flavors certainly aren't. My favorites are the beef short ribs and the ribs. Grilled with what must be a addictive substance banned by some organization over magic coals, they will turn you in to a true carnivore. Another go to is the salad. Again, the most simple example of salad, but their dressing contains whatever they are rubbing on those ribs. All that said, what really gives Luso the edge is the price. We frequently come to this restaurant and we love the service and food. Last Sunday we just came home from a trip and we were tired and hungry. We were trying to figure a place to go to eat. We past Luso and decided to stop. We were disappointed for the first time. Service was not good waiter very inattentive. My swordfish was excellent but my wife ordered the half chicken. It was very small and dry. She couldn't eat it. As I said we just got back from a trip and I was hungry. I picked at her chicken. We called manager over and told him chicken was dry and my wife couldn't eat it. His response was somebody ate it. I should have left it. Nice that there's a parking lot, since parking on the main drag can be iffy. Service: OK - not great. One appetizer never arrived but was not missed, since the food came out quickly. Food: nobody had the rodizio, but we could see that it was served nicely at adjacent tables. Our food was tasty; although the whole chicken was quite small, the shish kebab was plentiful (and chewy). Really disappointed. Our party of 8 had reservations for 7:30 but didn't get seated until 8:15. The hostess was very rude and annoyed when i checked in twice to see how much longer our wait would be. We all did the rodizio which took quite some to be served. The waiter told us it would be 9 meats so we were excited to try everything! The pork was very tough, but I thought ok maybe I had a bad piece. Chicken wings were very good as so was the turkey. The picanha was to rare for my liking and very fatty. The short rib was not tender and therefore hard to chew, however it was flavorful. We had to keep asking our waiter to bring more meats because they took so long. Then the meats stopped! My husband asked the waiter where the other meats were and he asked which one we wanted to try. We said the filet mignon. He then came over and gave us some. I've been going to Luso's for years now. The food is usually pretty good but after tonight I'll never be going back there again. After one of the waiters destroys my jacket by leaning over it to serve food and leaves cooking grease all over it, the manager, I believe his name is Rich, walks over to our table and tells me "sorry, we can pay for the dry cleaning." Then, my mother's salmon comes out completely raw and inedible and has to send it back. You would think the manager would send over a cup of coffee or a free drink. But he did absolutely nothing. At the end of the night, I approached the manager and asked him why he wouldn't send over anything to the table, of take something off the bill. He tells me "Oh, I meant to send over coffee and take something off the bill" ...well, then why didn't you? He had plenty of time to do something but instead he did nothing. He didn't even give me a business card to contact him about the dry cleaning bill for the jacket. I guess I'm expected to drive to Smithtown, hope that manager is in and ask him to reimburse me for a $10 dry cleaning bill. Just super unprofessional and disappointing. read more

Went here on a Wednesday evening with my wife for our Anniversary Dinner. We entered and the whole place smelled like great wood fire BBQ. There was no wait to get a table and were seated quickly. (Again it was a Wednesday evening) My wife had the ribs and I ordered the Rodizio (the all you can eat meat option). The service was great and the wait staff were friendly and attentive to us. My wife loved her ribs and could not finish them the portions were so big. The Rodizio was AMAZING! They came around ever few minutes with a different type of meat...each of which was perfectly cooked and seasoned! Every piece was fresh off the grill and tasted great. I ate as much as I could before I had to call it quits for my stomach being ready to burst. I would recommend this place to anybody who loves meat and wants to have a good night out! I visited this restaurant about a month ago. We were a fairly large table of about 9. We happened to come on a very busy Saturday night where there was a table of 32 and several other large groups. Despite the long wait, it was an extremely pleasant dining experience. The female manager was very nice and came to the table a few times throughout the course of the meal to check on us. She apologized for the wait and thanked us for our patience. We appreciated this. The food is excellent. Everything is very well prepared and fresh but my favorite would have to be the chicken. We have been waiting to go for awhile. Many of our friends rave about it so we decided to go for a family Valentine's Dinner. As a family of 6, we expect to pay for a good meal. The waitress had a horrible attitude and seemed extremely annoyed by our questions and the time it took to place the order. In you're going to provide a service- you have to show your best face even if your day is not going so well. Our kids are 11, 10, 6, and 4. The 2 older ones wanted Rodizio. For the 10 year old, it was $15 and for the 11 year old it was $33. We stated the older one doesn't eat that much but the rules are the rules! The waitress checked and we were told it was full price even though both girls are the same size. Okay. So we decide for the 2 younger ones, they're going to share 1/2 chicken. At this point, we were a little put off. I ordered Rodizio. A few minutes later, our waitress came back and said that since my wife was going to share the chicken with the littles ones, there would be an additional $5.50 sharing charge. That was it!!!! We were done. We spoke to the floor manager and he wasn't very sympathetic or took the time to understand why we were upset. Even after explaining the issue with charging full price for a child's Rodizio, those are the rules. It's not like we were trying to get over. We could have lied and said they were 9+10 but what are we teaching our children? At that point the owner came over to mediate but it was too late. I understand this place does great business and may not need my family's business but we will never go there again. Very disappointing!!!!!!
