First, take my review with a grain of salt as my experience was with Basil from an initial Sales experience without closure or after sales experience. I'm surprised to see many negative reviews of this dealership, but most of the reviews seem related to bait and switch and after the initial sales entry to get you in the door which I didn't reach given pursuing a different car due to my own reasons. I simply want to call out a specific person for the amazing early sales experience I had with Basil in Sales. I cannot speak to a sales experience once "in the door", but Basil was truly helpful with me considering one of their 2011 Honda Accords that looked to be in excellent condition. From early on, she answered all my questions as I was an out-of-state buyer, provided me with photos of the car before the car was ready as I asked because I was urgent on timing, and provided a video and clean photos of the car after the car was detailed for a better what to expect. Basil was very thorough and provided excellent communication and evidence of the car's condition throughout the early process. She deserves the recognition of being an excellent salesperson and made me want to work with this dealership. How the following sales experience would have been is unknown so that should be judged by other experiences. Basil is definitely someone to work with to find your car wherever she goes. read more

This experience began with great promise but sadly took a sharp nosedive after the initial sale. We purchased a 2023 Pilot, upgrading from our 2019 Passport. The sales process went smoothly, and we felt the trade-in was equitable. However, the true test came after the ink had dried. Our son had his heart set on a 2015 Honda Accord, which we had spotted on the same day as the Pilot purchase. Strangely, they couldn't locate the key for the Accord at the time, so we decided to return the following day. To our dismay, the car remained uninspected and uncleaned. Despite this, our son test-drove the vehicle and expressed his interest. That's when we initiated negotiations with our salesman, seeking a reasonable deal given the car's condition and the dealership's lack of preparation. Our requests were met with the standard sales theatrics - the elusive 'manager's approval' and the customary tactics to up-sell. Regrettably, the manager remained inflexible. At that moment, it became abundantly clear that our loyalty and future business meant little to them. We've had a tradition of upgrading our Honda vehicle every four years. Plus my son has become loyal to Honda through our past purchases. We also made plans to do the same for our youngest in just two years with his first Honda. That's not just one, but three guaranteed future purchases. However, it was disheartening to realize that their priority lay in squeezing every last cent from a worn-out Honda Accord with 130,000 miles on it, rather than valuing our long-term partnership. But the real shocker came when we visited the dealership to collect our forgotten floor mats and decided to accept the salesman's price because our son had set his heart on that car. I caved because it was for my son despite my insistence of not working with them again. The salesman we spoke with, with a deadpan expression, told us, 'Sorry, someone else is considering buying it, and they have dibs.' In that moment, frustration overcame all of us. My wife and I, customers who had just invested in a $50,000 vehicle, were denied because we weren't the first in line? It was undoubtedly one of the most absurd encounters I've ever had in a sales setting. From the constant attempts at up-selling, the impersonal staff, and the subpar maintenance department all culminated in an experience I would strongly advise anyone to avoid. Took my Honda battery to get exchanged for a new one since it was completely dead and still under warranty. First interaction with service department was a rude man with total lack of customer service skills. Instead of trying to help, his attitude was defensive and rude. I'm going to go as fas as call them racist micro-aggressions on his behalf. When I finally got my new battery I get home and it doesn't have a charge. Incredibly disappointment and upset at the whole experience. We call to complain and their response is "jump the battery." I shouldn't have to jumpstart a new battery. We get another call and now they ask if there is something wrong with the car. Anything to not take responsibility. What kind of customer service is this? Any positive reviews must be fake. Terrible experience. I would leave zero starts if possible. read more

I have to say, car shopping has to be one of my least favorite activities. This unfortunately was one of those cruddy experiences you tell your friends, "oh honey, no..." I've had really positive experiences at Luther Chevrolet of Hudson, and mistakenly assumed they all had excellent service. Nope. I stumbled across a Honda CRV that seemed like a pretty great deal. It was about $1000 less than market value and had really low mileage (could also mean it had issues, but I was optimistic). Because I live down in the cities, I was trying to factor in just being able to go up to St. Cloud before it was sold. While we were playing phone tag, the sales guy mentioned that someone else was also looking at the vehicle, the typical shenanigan, but was willing to take $500 deposit. This seemed kind of weird to me, but I took a chance. The sales guy seemed willing to drive it down to the cities so I could test drive it, though. Here's the catch - I found out he also took a $500 deposit from another couple! What the deuce? Then he tells me if I want to buy the car, we have to drive all the way up to St. Cloud to finish the finance paperwork, and that we could drive it back all the way back, him and I (this sounded fishy, driving a female back and forth 90 minutes one way, I haven't even met him in person yet). I get they have to make the sale, but cmon! Because of some inventory rules, he wasn't willing to transfer the vehicle to a closer Luther. That was the last straw for me and I decided to go with another Luther dealership. read more

I specifically went in to get electrical work done on my 1991 Honda Accord. I had just gotten a starter last year, the alternator is good & the battery was tested 100%. I've had my car ten years so I really know the work I needed done. They were quick to say I needed a starter for $523. I reluctantly agreed (my own fault) but I was taking the mechanic's word for it that he knew what he was doing. He did but he was going for the easy fix. He was not willing to look into the electrical work I needed done first. I was willing to move on but I did call & spoke with him directly & voiced my frustration that I am still experiencing the same exact issues as I was two months ago. I felt like if I take my car back in, I should not have to pay the $165 fee since it was NOT diagnosed properly. The bottom line is I told them I was willing to come back in regularly so I would be a regular customer. However, he was very condescending & said I was trying to get "free work" He also said I was "wrong". Who does that in customer service?? What happened to the "customer is always right?" I understand that is not the case but you don't tell a customer who just paid $523 that you are "wrong" & be rude about it. I called back & had left my info to be given to the supervisor there that I wanted to speak to him / her & voice my frustration. A week later I have heard nothing back. BUYER BEWARE lying Sales Manager! I'm giving 1 star on Yelp only because anything with no stars gets hidden. Steer clear of this dealership because the Pre-owned Sales Manager will bait and switch you right out from under the sales person you worked out a deal with!!!! Just a little background. I have been in the market for a pre-owned 2014 Chevy Cruze with low mileage and a few specific features for the past week. Most importantly, I have been saving CASH over several months for the purchase. I had 2 cars sold out from under me and the Internet Sales person at 2 different dealerships earlier in the week, and the reason I mention them is that in both cases, I negotiated a deal for sticker price plus sales tax (other fees waived). Each of the cars that were sold before I could get to the dealership were under 20k miles. Listed at 13,999 and MN tax is 6.5% so final negotiated price was $14,900 for both separate deals I had with the Internet Sales person, but were then sold unexpectedly by the on the lot guys. Twice this happened. Crushing. I thought i learned my lesson and when I saw the exact year, model, color, Chevy Cruze with most of the features I was looking for, I jumped on it. Even though the car at Luther Honda of St. Cloud was 20k miles more than the same year and model cars I'd negotiated list price + tax ($14,900 out the door) on, and lacked the sunroof feature, I was excited about the car, and honestly ready to be done with the exhausting car shopping process. I submitted a message request through the dealership's Contact Us page around 7PM Thursday evening, and since I learned from experience that some Internet Sales person's days ended at 5PM at other locations, I followed up with a phone call directly to the dealership based on the auto response email I received. I called and asked for Chris Peterson, who was the contact name given in the email automated response as the Preowned Sales Manager. I was told that this person was no longer employed there, so I asked for anyone in Preowned Sales. I was connected with ADAM. There is a reason I have his name in caps as he still conjures emotions of rage for me. When I talked to ADAM on the phone, I explained to him which vehicle I was interested in. That I'd put in an internet request but since my experience earlier in the week and worrying that the Internet sales person was gone for the day, that I wanted to be proactive and call. I explained I was highly motivated to buy, at which point he cut me off and told me that he'd have to go check and make sure there were no holds or deposits on the vehicle before he talked to me. I gave him my number to get in touch with me before 8PM. In the meantime I received an email from the Internet Sales Manager, Scott Kennedy, with information about the car. I was replying to him via email that I'd just spoken with Adam, when Scott called me. Scott was kind, considerate and patient in letting me explain my car buying failures over the past week. I asked him for the same deal I'd negotiated before....list price + sales tax which worked out to be a little less than $14,900, dealer/document/license fees waived. I reiterated $14,900, maximum out the door price. He told me he'd confirm with his Sales Manager but didn't see a problem with my fair offer. Scott and I agreed that I would drive an hour away, and meet him in the morning as soon as they opened their doors. That he would let me know if there was an issue with my offer. I told him that if I saw the car was accurately represented on their website, I would find the nearest Wells Fargo and return with a cashiers check for $14,900. Finally. I was excited. I'd done my homework. I'd given my best price that was MORE than fair for a car with 37k miles. I had a plan to be there before ANY other buyers could get the car. it was a done deal...boy was I wrong. I texted Scott at 7:30AM to tell him I was on my way and would be there when they opened. He texted me back that he'd pulled the car to the front and had the keys in his pocket. After I met Scott, drove the car, found a couple of minor problems, but nothing that was a deal breaker, we went inside to do the paperwork. He put my information in and then told me that he had to just wait for the Sales Manager, who agreed to no extra fees, to tweak the sales price to make the out the door price of $14,900. He was confident, and honest, with absolutely zero deception. As we're chatting and waiting, in walks ADAM. Young, smug, condescending ADAM. Who then put an invoice in front of me for $15,313. Both Scott and I were surprised by this. Adam would not budge and first "offered" to put the extra on my credit card for me. Then tried to sell me a car 2 years older with twice the miles that was "more in my budget". I was being jerked around, and disrespected by Adam so I left. The deal was excellent, and the staff were friendly and efficient. I made the deal over the phone, since I live an hour from the dealership, but the car was exactly as expected and there was no inordinate pressure to purschase add-ons. One thing I will be adding is mud flaps, as I bought the Auto Armor and the car looks like a polished gem. I recommend this dealership to anyone looking for a HONDA. I've been a loyal Honda customer for almost 20 years, and I've never had one break down or have it in for no more than routine maintenance. Thanks! read more

I found a car I liked and started ppwk to get the process started. Got a call the next day around 10:30 that they found a lender but needed 1500 down of which I didn't have. Did have a car though and told him I'd be willing to trade it in. I was told they were going to go back to the lender and see if that will work. Got a call 2 hours later that I was approved with trade in. Proceeded to leave work to get the trade in car cleaned out and ready to drive over. Got a text at 2 from the guy I was working with on his day off to tell me what the payment would be. I said suck cuz it was high but ok and he said the guy was still working with the lender and he would let me know. 5 o'clock rolls around and I haven't heard anything but I finally get there to finish ppwk and was told that In fact I wasn't approved and they sold the car I had already started ppwk on earlier that day. No call, no text, no responses to any texts or calls. Livid doesn't even cover it. So unprofessional and horrible business ethics. These fuckers don't give a shit about anyone. Don't know how they sleep at night pulling rugs under people like that. read more

We visited this dealership after finding a vehicle that looked like what we wanted on their website. We had the intention to purchase during this visit if the vehicle was in good condition. In our experience, the test driving of the vehicle and reviewing of other vehicles on the lot felt fine. We, of course, felt a small amount of pressure from the salesman, but were not too overwhelmed, as we had come in with the clear intent to purchase the particular vehicle. Our experience went sour once we started the purchasing process. We understood that we visited and decided to purchase on a Saturday afternoon, a busy time, but the time commitment and inconsistent communication about this commitment was frustrating. We did not expect to spend nearly an hour and a half in the waiting room to move forward with purchasing the car, nor were we told that was how long we would end up waiting. Again, we recognize that the people who worked with us ended up needing to stay past closing time, as did we, to finalize the sale. We had been given a checklist of the vehicle buying process that included a review of features in the car, which did not take place. We were ushered out once we signed off the purchase agreement. Moreso, we felt disappointed in not feeling taken care of. We got into our new vehicle without an overview of features, only a quarter tank of gas, marker dots on the headlights that we were told would have been removed in the final cleaning and without a spare key. We raised the question of a spare key during the discussion with sales and financing, which we were told we could purchase for an additional $150, making us feel nickel and dimed. When you spend over $20,000 on a vehicle, it is frustrating to drive your vehicle off the lot to a gas station so you can fill the tank. Even more frustrating is not receiving a spare key. If we purchased from a private party, we understand we get what we get. However, when we purchased from a dealership where you have the capability to produce a spare key, it does not make sense for one to not be included. Finally, we submitted detailed feedback about this experience and never received a reply. Yet, we continue to get emails from however many branches of Honda/Luther that our information has been shared with. We continue to unsubscribe and turn out to find ourselves on yet another list. We do not plan on going back to this dealership and would not recommend them based on our experience. read more

Leased my brand new Honda Accord from here, and I love it, the upfront sales presentation and team was really friendly about finding what I needed. However, I'm giving it 1 star because the service past the sale and paperwork drops harder than a brick in water. Honestly, once they get their money they don't care about what happens after , "that's not in our control" , "not my job" mentality . I've given several calls just trying to get any information about my cars registration going on 5 MONTHS later, and I can't even get a callback or anyone to give a half cent. My wife went in to see about getting a new lease. She had months left but got an email from luther talking about a sale. Salesman W said they didn't have that offer? What he didn't say was they had to pay off her lease and Blah, Blah, Blah. we could have finished her lease and then search for the best deal. Do NOT go to this dealer for a lease. We had a lease and then traded in for another leased vehicle. We signed and took possession of our new lease in February 2019. In September 2019 we got a bill from Honda Financial saying we owed them over $1000 for damages on the car we turned in back in February. While we have a separate BBB dispute going with Honda Financial for our issues with them, the way our local dealer handled this was horrendous. First - they kept reminding us time and again they are NOT Honda. They refuse to stand behind the brand that they sell EXCLUSIVELY. As a customer, I don't CARE about corporate or dealer or HQ. We learned the car had sat on the dealer's lot for 6 months and THEN they claimed there was damage to our vehicle. Has anyone ever heard of being charged for the condition of a car six months AFTER you traded it in? At first, the dealer claimed ignorance and just sent us to CORPORATE, but now they actually changed their story and said they DO have proof there was damage the day we turned it in. They said we should have gotten a third party collision shop to assess our car before turning it in to them for our protection to show there wasn't damage. Has anyone ever heard of such a ridiculous idea? Our car had less than 30k miles on it. It was in GREAT condition and had NO accidents. They are liars and we will NOT be back. read more

I needed a new-to-me car. Needed to trade in my 2008 Honda CRV for something newer. Almost bought another brand, but thought I'd give Honda another try because of its low maintenance & dependability. Arrived at the new Honda showroom on Hwy #23 and asked for someone who would 'listen to me and what I wanted and NOT just sell me a car." The receptionist said she knew who I would want. Out came Kelsey. She WAS indeed the right person. Knew her product; listened; made suggestions to fit my budget. Together we crafted a deal that was fair to both of us. 24 hours later, I drove off the lot with a low mileage, fairly priced, 2016 CRV. Could not be happier with a car buying experience. I'd give them zero stars if that were possible. We drove over 3 hours after weeks of searching for our 'perfect' car. Every car search site had this car at the same price and one car search site showed that the price had been dropped over 10 times in the last 75 or so days that the car has been on their lot. Magically, after we e-mailed to confirm availability - the price went up by $400 on their website. And I confirmed on a car search site graph of pricing - the price had been in a nosedive until they day we e-mailed - then the graph line headed up a bit to reflect the increase. So, I printed everything I could find. Anyway, we got there and were told a customer was already talking to a sales person about the very car we wanted. But the sales guy took our cell number just in case. So we were bummed - but left and moved on to other dealerships. Within 20 minutes or so, the sales guy calls and says "Great news! The guy didn't like the trade-in offer so if you come back now the car is yours!" I maintained my composure and said we'd be there shortly. So, we're all super excited and get to the dealership and he's showing my son, husband and myself all the bells and whistles. And said "Seeing how this is going to be your car, you should sit behind the wheel and get a feel for it". I was sooo happy because I'd been without a car for 2 months (mine got totaled while parked in front of our house). So, just as I'm feeling happy and comfortable and we're getting ready for the test drive - the sales guy is like 'Oh, I have a call.' He starts talking to someone on his cell while we're all envisioning driving our new car home (remember, he said 'The car is yours' - when he called us to come back). He gets of the call and says (without looking sorry at all), "Oh, that was the guy who looked at it earlier and he's fine with trade-in offer so......it's his". I couldn't believe what was happening! Were we on a mean-spirited hidden camera show? I truly feel he used us to get the other guy to come around. There was no real remorse - only real lies by him to achieve his bottom line. We were pawns or just fleshy blobs to him - not real people that he just told that the car was ours - then promptly booted me out of 'my' supposed car. As soon as we got in our vehicle to leave - I was crying tears of rage! Yeah there's stereotypes about car sales people but I live in a smaller town and never have encountered anything like that. Maybe I'm naive - but I'm human and I was stunned, sad and disgusted! So between the price raise and the horrible treatment and truly playing with our emotions - I'll just warn anyone that will listen - to NEVER go to Luther Honda in Waite Park, MN. NEVER. read more

Purchased a 2016 Honda Accord and the dealership offered to upgrade and include the sensor package. The cost to upgrade was to be at dealer invoice. I trusted the dealer and found out six months later that another $500.00 had been added. When I went back to the dealer, he did verify that this had taken place and showed me the additional charging. However, he would only give me a "gift card" which was good only at this dealership. The card of course will never be used. I did not realize that the statute of limitations for dealership lying had run out. read more

I had an appointment to meet with a Greg at 515, I was 10 minutes late, but my mom was there waiting on time, but he took off with another customer. I thought that was really rude, knowing I was going to be there at a certain time. What made it worse was the front receptionist was not helpful at all and cared more about her cell phone then helping customers. After I was waiting for a while, they got another sales man to try to help me, but he clearly stated they couldn't help me much, since Greg was already working with me. So I sat there waiting for 40 minutes till I finally just walked out. It is clear they work on commission and don't care about their customers. It was also disturbing that I asked the salesman the night before if he could get me a car from the Luther dealership in the cities. He told me that I need to give a $500 deposit to have it brought up here and to look at it for 24 hours. I told him to get the car up here the next day if possible, and instead of trying to get the car I wanted here, he worked on a different car that was coming in. He then texted me that the car was in and I believed it was the car I wanted from the cities, but it wasn't. I will not deal with them again and advise others not to either. read more

Through researching used vehicles in and around the Twin Cities I made a visit to Luther Honda of St. Cloud. I wasn't exactly sure I would find the car I was looking for but gave it a shot. Worked with Corey over the phone before heading up to the dealership due to a little distance and wanted to make sure the online ad was true to the car. He took time and gave me a virtual tour of the car and answered some basic questions I had. Upon narrowing my search we made a stop to look at a specific car. Upon some inspection and discussion decided to make a purchase. Corey seemed to be helping multiple customers at once but I didn't feel at any point that we were left waiting for any extended period of time or that he was in a rush with us. My reason for four stars rather than five is that we requested tire pressure be verified before leaving. We were told tires were filled up to the recommended PSI. However in the days that followed I was reading the manual and found the option on the dash that displayed current PSI for each tire. They ranged from 27 to 37 psi. I realize my purchase was finishing up near closing so I'm not sure if the service dept had time to verify this. I also would have appreciated topping off the fluids including the windshield washer fluid and antifreeze. These are easy fixes but would have been an additional nicety. Overall good experience and friendly staff wiling to answer my many questions. read more

My wife and I setup an appointment (since we were making a 250 mile round trip drive to the dealership) with a sales associate to view two 2005 Honda Pilots that were advertised on Luther Honda's website (St. Cloud store) as "spotless." In fact, the sales associate assured us that both vehicles were in very good condition and rust free on their exteriors. With that being said, we left our house with every intention of purchasing one of the two vehicles. However, when we arrived, the condition of one of the Pilots was plainly misrepresented--insofar as rust spots were visible on both of the rear fenders. In light of its condition, we chose to look at the other Pilot. The second one was as advertised, although we were shocked that it was $3,000 more than the advertised price. Immediately, we were skeptical of the sudden increase in price since this model was the same year and comparable in features. After some "checking," the sales associate then informed us that the second Pilot we were interested in purchasing was "not at the dealership because it was out for an alignment," but we were more than welcome to take the more expensive third Pilot for a test drive. At this juncture, I openly expressed my disdain for traveling two hours only to discover that the condition of one vehicle had been misrepresented, the second vehicle allegedly was not even at the dealership, and the third vehicle, which suddenly appeared, could be purchased for well above the cost of the other two. We could not help to think that the last scenario seemed eerily familiar to a "bait and switch" style sales tactic. Ironically, the Luther Auto Group explicitly extols the "shared values" associated with "integrity, high standards, ethics, fairness, and respect for customers" on their main website. From our experience, it was clear that the values that St. Cloud Honda embraced fell far from the proverbial tree. As an ethics professor, I highly suggest that they read some Kant and perhaps those values would not ring so hollow. read more
