Nail salon goers, beware! This place will scam you. My friend and I went here last month for pedicures. Unfortunately, the morning of our appointments, while shaving, my razor slipped and nicked my ankle bone. When we got to the salon, I apologized, told the lady at the front that I couldn't do the deluxe pedicure, and the lady said I could do just gel nails. I originally selected a pink Cat Eye gel color. My friend selected a white color. Now, on to the service. My friend's pedicurist was a very friendly female. My pedicurist was a male and not friendly. When I told him the situation about not being able to do the deluxe pedicure, he acted like it was such an inconvenience to him that he had to do a regular polishing. Additionally, he told me that, because I was not doing the deluxe pedicure, he couldn't trim my toenails, but would do it anyway. Although I was glad that he chose to trim them, it made no sense why they typically don't with a regular polishing. He also said he would not be able to do anything with the cuticles, which is understandable. The cherry on top of this unpleasant sundae? After telling me he was out of the first pink shade I selected, I chose a darker pink Cat Eye gel color. He painted my toenails a glittery purple. I did want to say something before he completed one toe, but felt like I "inconvenienced" him enough, which was not my intention at all. Although I insisted on paying, my friend wanted to. When she got home, she sent me a photo of the receipt, which angered both of us. My pedicurist charged me for a gel polish change with removal, which came out to $30, and an additional $10 and $5 with no service descriptions next to these prices. For the record, I did not have toenail polish on when we came in for our appointments. We have never been scammed at a nail salon before. My friend was here to visit and we were looking forward to a relaxing nail salon day. This is one salon we will avoid in the future. read more

The foot and leg massage was awesome. The nail tech was friendly. The actual pedicure and manicure were definitely not great. Nail shapes were uneven on toes and fingers. Callouses, dead skin not removed. I went home and took out my own nails scissors to clean things up properly. I've been coming here for a few years now, I recently moved out of state and plan my visits back to KC when Mo is available. I've tried multiple places in KC and where I live now and the quality does not compare to what I get at Luxe. There are a few times where I have not been successful getting in with her but the others I've had have also been on point and that makes it worth me traveling back to get my nails done right. If you'd like to destroy your natural nails, this is the place to go. They began by taking off my existing dip by making me put my entire hands in a big bowl of acetone. My nail tech then made me rub my nails against a paper towel at the bottom. If I took a rest from rubbing, she warned me that she'd need to use more drills. It's of note that I called 2 times in advance of my appointment to confirm they could do a dip without using the drill on my natural nail. Guess what? Not only did the tech use the drill, she gashed one nail with the drill so hard that hurt for 3 days following my appointment! I expected this dip to last for at least 2 weeks given all the drill work -- I'm at day 12 and 3 nails have chipped and a 4th nail is almost lifted off. The tech was unprofessional, trashing my existing dip, acted like a know-it-all and in the end executed extremely sloppy work. Specifically, the dip didn't cover all of the nail (as evidenced by the short lifespan). A dip with my regular tech at different salon lasts three weeks. And she does not use a drill on my natural nails. The nails themselves are an ugly, pointy and offensive shape. The place reeks of harsh chemicals which is apparently used to cover the smell from inproper cleaning practices. To top it all off, their website advertises $40 for a standard color dip with no designs. I was charged $50 This place is disgusting. read more

UPDATE: After months of attending this salon Ha has asked me to stop returned based on personality conflict. When I go in I have headphones on and I always tip her 20%. I suspect staff mentioned I was frustrated with her constant tardiness. I was notified via text by their receptionist Abby who chose to argue with me after I requested to have a manager call me. The way this situation was handled by both ABBY and HA was incredibly unprofessional. I won't be back and nor will my mother. Original review: Ha is amazing, she is so fast, detailed, and has never hurt me. I love my fills and fresh sets from her - my only complaint is she's ALWAYS 10-30 min late & I never know the cost of my services. I've paid anywhere from $45-75 for fills/full set - they say it depends on the condition of your nails when you come in. We didn't have a restoration but they sat us after about 20 minutes which wasn't long at all. they had a great selection of colors which is always nice. The man who was my manicurist was great! We came here because our go to place couldn't get us in today and my girls really wanted their nails done. I'm very disappointed in this place. They did a terrible job on my 5 yr olds nails. They just left my 5 yr old sitting I the chair and after 25 mins of them not coming back I just told her to get up. It was not a good experience. BeLoved is much better. They are cleaner, more professional and way friendlier. This is crazy! What is it with these nail salons anymore. Unacceptable. They keep making excuses as to why my daughters nails look like this however, this is her third or fourth time ever having her nails done at a salon and we normally go to be loved, and they've never looked like this. They were completely rushed and sloppy. We will not be coming back here. She keeps trying to tell us its the colors she chose, which anybody knows anything about nails knows that's a bs copout. I'm not gonna sit here and argue with a nail tech who clearly doesn't give a damn about the quality of work. They close in 5 mins and just continue to let people come in and they're rushing through their nails. Unfortunately my service wasn't enough for me to come back. I wanted a basic mani/pedi. During my pedicure the lady spoke little English but was friendly. When my pedicure was done, I ended up going home to apply lotion and re trim my cuticles. My feet felt like sandpaper. My manicure tech was friendly and spoke English, but I ended up cleaning the underneath of my nails when I got home. They buffed my nails causing me to have rough scratches on my nails for days. I love fast and efficient service! My gel manicure took less than one hour, even with having to remove the old gel as well. I just chose a basic color this time as I didn't have a design in mind. There are lots of dip and gel colors to choose from. Word of advice, make an appointment. I had one, but while I was there I saw three sets of women be turned away because they were all booked for the day. There weren't many technicians in the salon, so I don't know if they were short due to Labor Day weekend or what. I give this place mixed reviews. The pros are that it is clean and has a great selection of gel and dip colors. The cons are that the customer service or care is sorely lacking. (to my appointment) even though I have waited patiently many times in the past year due to the tech running behind (no fault of his) or staff not showing up for work, etc. and have not said a word about it. Luxe is a breath of fresh air. Each and every nail tech is very good at what they do. I have asked for some pretty intricate designs and they always hit it out of the park. The pricing is pretty consistent with what I've found elsewhere for a full set. One of the employees suggested that I try dip with tip instead of a full set for my last visit. I liked it overall, but it took forever and I'm wondering if she didn't suggest it knowing I'd need to come back for another full dip/tip after those were done for. I say this because I was not aware that you can't get a fill with the dip. It makes sense now, but not something I thought of, and over the course of a year, would definitely cause me to spend more money than getting fills. Have been having issues lately with scheduling. Made an appointment for today and appointment was pushed over 30 minutes behind. More than anything what was frustrating is that no one apologized for being behind. No one attempted to call me in advance to let me know they were about 1 hour behind schedule to respect Their my time. Lately, when I go here, the brunette receptionist is very rude and difficult to speak with; she doesn't respond when you ask her a question and could really use a lesson in customer service. I have tried many nail places in the KC and OP area, and Luxe is definitely my fave. The salon itself is very pretty inside. It has a classy and more elegant feel without the inflated prices that you have to pay for that "atmosphere" at other places. They also have SO many colors for gel and dip (I'm sure they do for regular too, I just haven't gotten those). The technicians are friendly and I think they are particularly good at listening about what you want done. I've personally never gotten nail art but I know they have a lot of staff who are quite good at it. Going here was a pretty awful experience and I will not be returning. I went with my best friend and she got a gel fill and I was going for just a regular gel mani for events I had to go to. From the get go the staff was unbearably rude. I sat and waited over 15 minutes for my appointment to start and when the young lady walked up, without even greeting me, she snapped, "DOYOUHAVEGELONYOURNAILS?" and I said, no. I knew it was going to be bad. She plops down and proceeds to complain about everything - how shitty the place is, how they force them to come to work in bad weather, blah blah. No drink offered, nothing - even though staff was offering people right next to me something to drink. She proceeds to nip my cuticles to the extreme end of their life. When she went to use the drill file, I politely asked if she could buff it by hand instead so as not to destroy the nail bed. I take great care of my nails, give them regular manicures, and I like to preserve the natural nail. She said she was concerned about maybe not getting all of the cuticles (mind you, I barely have any). Politely, I said if that's the case she can use the drill. She opted not to do so. I literally added, "you do what you have to do." Once she got the painting stage, the paint job she laid down was so uber-awful that she stopped HERSELF and said out loud, "oh this doesn't look good, every nail has flaws," and I fully agreed. Every single nail was bubbling up, or had some kind of grit or stuff in it that was very noticeable. She tried to take the first layer off. I asked her what she thought caused it, and she said several times she thought it was the polish. In fact, she pulled th brush out and attempted to wipe the brush off on the paper towel. I asked if she was sure and whether it needed time adjustment to cure, and she said again it wasn't the curing, it wasn't anything, it was the polish. I said, let's switch the color, that's fine. She then brought a bowl of BOILING hot acetone and asked me to dunk my hands in. It was absolutely awful. As she was removing the cured layer, the absolute jerk next to us suddenly craned her neck all the way over to stare at my hands, jumping in when NO ONE asked her too. She started asking what was going on and the tech explained to her that she thought it was the polish. Very loudly and rudely, the idiot says, "OH IT'S NOT THE POLISH, it's her NAILS." Which is frankly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Then she pulled out the drill file to take off the first cured layer. The woman at the front then decided SHE needed to jump in and said, "what's going on?" The tech explained it to her again, and she felt the need to tell me if I didn't let her drill it would all be ruined. I stared her dead in the eye, and said "I literally told her she can drill if she wants to, I literally said to her, "do whatever you want," but SHE said it was the polish. She even wiped the brush. I said, let's switch the color, it's totally fine." As I stared her down the entire time, she mumbled something about the drill then wandered away. At this point my friend came over and agreed they were all being rude. I didn't need THREE adults to come in and manage the conversation. The second go-round, my friend commented how nice a job I did on my own nails and I mentioned that they were probably filed and burned so thin after today they'd likely snap. I made sure the tech heard me say this. Anyway during the second round of polishing she paid WAY more attention and wouldn't you know it, more care and attention to detail = better pain job. Overall the nails looked good but I don't need to put up with anyone's crap just to have a manicure. read more

Long story short: They're friendly but there are a few technicians that provide poor customer service, and I wouldn't suggest this place for a group of 2+ people. Also, keep in mind, don't go on Sundays or make appointments on Sundays because they will only provide a max of 1-hour service or else they'll rush you out of there in a friendly way, so don't have designs in mind and go as simple as possible. We didn't feel like they were attentive for the services that we told them, and we didn't feel like they were cleaning after each client. We're never coming back. The two nail designs I attached are from Pinterest. No, they didn't give my sister the design. Be aware, for most nail salons, for an "acrylic set", they usually don't charge length unless they're super long, but Luxe charge length and shape no matter if you're wanting short tips. I believe it was $5 per service, and $5/nail for designs. Make sure to always ask questions when they suggest gel, length, shapes, design, and etc. because they can overcharge you. Why the 1 star? My review is super long so please bare with me. We are honestly disappointed. My friend called Thursday to schedule an appointment at 12pm. The guy who scheduled us gave my friend an off vibe but we were trying to be positive of the situation since we wanted to celebrate my birthday here. When we got there, the guy in the front seemed nice at first, but he told my sister he couldn't do the two designs she suggested for her acrylics because he said he was slow at creating designs, and that he didn't have time to do it. He didn't even try to suggest designs for her to choose. We did take about 5 minutes to find our colors, and I asked my sister and friend to help me choose a color, but the same front guy rushed my friend and sister to sit down because they began to have walk-ins, but they also told some people to come back later. Keep in mind that my friend did ask them if they had enough staff to do three people, and she told them what services we wanted. He was hesitant when he told her that they did. I decided to pick a random color because he rushed my two gals, so I was done with him. I walked toward the receptionist and told her that I was ready, and she walked me half way to the pedicure area. I was so lost because she didn't tell me where to sit. Keep in mind it was my first time coming to this nail salon. She didn't bring me water when she asked me. She pointed to the side from a distance and told me there was a massage remote and it took me a minute or three to find it. Honestly, it didn't look she wanted to be there. The tech who did my pedi and mani did provide a nice customer service. I got regular polish for both. He did asked if I wanted gel or another color. I didn't feel like he was rushing me out. If I had to suggest a technician for someone's first time, then I'd suggest him. I would've prefer the tech to give me instruction as he finished up, because there wasn't any communication to do after he was done. He went to go sit down with another customer when my nails were drying, and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do next. I didn't know if he was going to come back and check my nails to make sure they were dried, and then check us out at the front. Keep in mind it's our first time here. We were sitting there for about 25 minutes, and I told my friend that I was ready to leave because they didn't come back and check on us. It seemed like they were going to make us sit in there forever. We grabbed the receptionist and told her we were ready to pay, and she grabbed the front guy to take our payment. Overall, we appreciate the effort but we had the poorest service today. Response/Update: After reading Steve P.'s response I'll just say this. We're not mad at your technicians we're just disappointed with the service that we received. If you guys believe it was our fault for taking a long time to find our colors, then you guys should've helped us out. It's our first time here, and y'all do it different from other nail salons. They normally have us sit down with our tech and they'll ask about our ideas and colors. My sister had the designs already, but your tech never asked her about it. She didn't know when to show it to you guys until y'all sat her down. Keep in mind, we did tell y'all that she wanted the acrylic set with design when y'all scheduled us, so y'all knew ahead of time. Honestly, if there is a time limit to choose colors, designs, and etc. then y'all need to emphasize it on y'all website, when y'all schedule people, and in the store.
