A four pointed diamond star for Christmas COULD NOT BE DONE. A simple 69s styled round petal flower COULD NOT BE DONE. Polka dots COULD NOT BE CORRECTLY DONE! DO NOT COME HERE I will forever be shook and disgusted by the awful experience I've had here. It's like the irrational fear that your nail technician who speaks a different language is talking shit about you in front of your face to the other employees. Except that's EXACTLY what happened here. My two friends and I came to get manicures one day and were seated next to one another. After much debate, my friend seated to my left picked a bright yellow color. The salon was busy so the manager or owner, a Korean lady, rushed my friend's manicure. My friend, also Korean, asked (in English) if she could fix one nail that looked sloppy and very visibly streaky. The owner gave her some attitude and pushback saying "you picked that color and that's what it looks like" in English and then unwillingly started to redo her botched nail. As she was doing this, she started speaking very quickly and heatedly in Korean to the male employee who was doing my nails. Me, not understanding any Korean, thought nothing of this exchange until my friend entered their conversation and started bickering with her in Korean. I sat there watching them argue in a foreign language totally perplexed as to what was happening. It wasn't until after we left the salon that my Korean friend told me that the owner was openly slandering other customers in her native tongue and she didn't speak up until the owner started talking shit about her and the "pain in the ass it was to re-do the nail in that stupid color". When my friend spoke up in Korean, the owner was so caught off guard and embarrassed that she begged my friend to not share what had happened and bribed her with a "free manicure brochure for next time" to keep her mouth closed. Well I didn't get a free brochure to buy my silence so I'm saying something because this is so unprofessional and rude. How can you open a salon and treat your PAYING customers this way? Today was my first time at this location and I was excited to see that they had a student discount (read ending because I didn't get the discount). Heidi did my pedicure (regular) and I think she did an amazing job. Probably the best pedicure I've had because I really felt like she took the time to make sure they were perfect. (She also moved me to a chair where the massage feature worked after we begun bc mine wasn't working). I also got a gel manicure but felt like the woman doing my manicure didn't care to spend much time. The cut could have been more consistent across fingers but it ended up looking pretty good. She didn't take time to cut my cuticles (she barely did at all) but did give a brief neck massage. I went to pay and was told that I couldn't get the student discount because I was born before 1997. Really not cool to advertise a student discount and not allow older students to get it. Considered giving 3 stars for this, but my nails look fine! Paid 55 dollars for both plus tips. read more

The quality of Luxi's services has definitely gone down over the years. It used to be the best nail salon in Highland Park, which justified the slightly higher prices. I don't really think their service is worth the higher price anymore. I was going to a place about a block away for my manicures, one day they were packed so I went to Luxi. I asked for a specific design on my nails, which they did with ease, and it ended up being $55 for a gel manicure without and acrylics or anything. It was fine for the time, and the manicure lasted about two weeks. I've been back twice since that manicure and my nails have started to chip within days of both of those visits. I'm not sure if it's the polish they use or their method of applying, but it's pretty annoying for a more expensive gel manicure. I can say that they have an absolutely amazing collection of OPI gel colors. Definitely more than any of the other salons in HP. And they are really good at copying any design that you give them! read more

This place is absolutely amazing. Their prices are reasonable and as a Rutgers student, they have awesome discounts. A student pedicure is $20, which is a great deal. They also have a rewards program that you join for $5 (only have to pay once, no annual fee) and receive 5% of your bill back. Once this total gets to $10, you bring back the receipt on your next visit and receive $10 off your bill. Every now and then (especially during the summer and before vacations), I splurge and get the Shea Butter pedicure. Since it's $45, I usually do this when I get to my $10 reward. This service is SO worth the value. It includes a special chocolate scrub, warm Shea Butter applied to your legs/feet and then sealed in with heated boots, a hand and arm massage while you're in the boots, 10 minutes of reflexology, and if you ask, the callus eliminator. The callus eliminator normally costs $5 extra (more at other salons) and even as an add on to a regular pedicure, is worth it. They apply a liquid to your feet and wrap it with plastic wrap to help soak it in. Then a few minutes later, they take off the wrap and scrub the calluses away. It's AMAZING and solves a lot of my problems with cracking heels and rough skin after the summer of flip flops and walking barefoot. The Shea Butter also keeps my legs and feet well-moisturized during the winter when I suffer from dry skin. And their massage chairs for the soaking tubs are to die for. I once fell asleep it in, it was so good. The services are always finished off at the drying station, where you get a neck and shoulder massage. Like icing on the cake. Their other services are very good, too. I've only had my eyebrows waxed there, but they do an excellent job and are very thorough. I don't have thin brows and am always happy that they're never over-waxed or tweezed. I usually wind up with Magda and she's excellent. The other techs are good too. Though all of the techs speak a different language, some Chinese and some Spanish, they all speak excellent English. The owner is always on site and makes sure that everyone is happy. The two big flatscreens are nice and usually have talk shows or basic cable news on for added entertainment. Their polish selection may seem small beside the counter, but they always have the latest OPI collection in. They even have My Private Jet, a very hard to find color! They can be very busy on weekends, as are most salons, so I would give them a call and make an appointment for those days. I've gotten there in the early afternoon with no wait during the week, but any time after 4 usually has a wait list. It's usually best to call ahead and see if there's a wait. I don't get my nails done on a weekly basis, but come summer I do love getting a pedicure fairly often, and a manicure too if I'm feeling up to it. This place has been my favorite to go to (and it helps that it's right next to my eyebrow threading place!). The prices are affordable- I think if you get a mani and pedi it's about 30-35 dollars. A pedi alone is 25.00 and this includes a hot stone foot massage and a back massage while your nails dry. Every girl I've gotten has been great and so nice. The owner also is usually around, and he's always very nice when greeting you when coming in. They also offer massages (in a chair) and waxing. There is a parking lot next door, that does get full, but there is some street parking up Raritan towards downtown Highland Park. read more

My friend also requested a manicure and we were accepted. Well, a pregnant woman did my pedi, which made me uneasy. She rushed through it and did a mediocre job. My feet were not completely dry when we were told we had to leave and another manicurist all but shoved my wet feet into my rain boots and pushed me out of the door. Slowly the service started to deteriorate, but I always made excuses bc I liked the girls and it is conveniently located. The last time I was there Eunice, was rude and downright nasty arguing with me that I did not have the appointment I said I had. This was after waiting for twenty minutes. Love this place. I get the Axxium gel nails and pedis done here. I've never had a single problem. The pedis are divine, the girls do a hot stone massage and a really nice scrub on your legs, and rub your shoulders while you're drying. I was not so keen on their Axxium removal techniques before, but the last two times I went they allowed the gel to soak off in acetone and my nails felt really strong afterward. I'm a student so the gel mani costs me $30 and the pedi is $25. All the people who work here are lovely, they're friendly and willing accommodate you. They offer student discounts to people under 23, which is stellar, and they have tons of color choices. The few times I've made an appointment they've always been ready for me and I haven't had to wait. I've been coming here since college and I loved it until this past Saturday. A Korean manicurist was giving me attitude after I told her I wanted her to spray the alcohol on my hands as that is usually the process after they're done cleaning the nails before putting on lotion. She refused and said that's not the process she follows. She started looking upset later on so I asked her what's wrong and she blew off on me saying I was rude because she "assumed" I was complaining to my friend about it (we were talking in Mandarin). She was very loud and walked away without even finishing my nails. I talked to the manager and he didn't apologize and say much, he just seemed like he didn't want to deal with the situation. Luxi is yet another reason why I was sad to leave Rutgers. The prices are great, the quality is top-notch, and they are quite accommodating. Luxi offers deals for Rutgers students, which is so convenient for students on a budget. It's totally walkable from College Ave: a pretty safe walk, just over the bridge. They offer all types of quality polishes, and they're extremely clean. I still can't figure out how a place that is both affordable and high quality exists in quaint Highland Park but not in the big city of Philadelphia... but maybe I just answered my own question. read more

The customer service isn't the greatest in the world but it is very clean and bright inside. I really like how clean it looks, makes me feel better when I get my nails done. They have a lot of options you can do and it seems to be fairly priced. I did just a manicure and it was only $10, good price for me! The technician did a good job and it was pretty quick. It's always a little awkward when they don't talk to you at all but oh well. Tons of colors to choose from. They take cards but there is a minimum of $20. I think. Or $10. There isn't a lot of room to sit and dry your nails, I had to wait a few minutes before I could sit under it. I will go back to get a new color, I can do a $10 manicure. read more

I have been coming here for 6 years and I USED to love this place. It was the nicest place around. It's gone downhill lately though and getting old and outdated, and the last service I got was a terrible quality. The polish was bubbling up before I even left. It was obvious even as the lady was painting my nails, so I don't know why she didn't stop and fix the problem rather than painting all my nails and pretending like there was no problem. Anyhow, I don't know of a better place to go in the area. I've actually been getting my nails done in Princeton at a place I love, Noble Nails. I will only go to Luxi if it's an emergency and I can't get down to Princeton. I wish they would clean up the place and go back to how it used to be. This place has really gone down in quality over the years. I've been coming here for 3 years and I think today will be the last time. Some of the woman are consistently rude to customers including the owner. There is nothing welcoming about the experience and the quality of the nail service has really gone down too. The last time I was there I had to ask to take the nail file from the woman to show her what round nails looked like, after asking politely 3 times that she fix them to not have sharp edges. She then encouraged me to get the UV gel($100) because my nails were getting weak from repeated gel manicures, which is just not helpful advice if my nails were weak, and sounds like she's looking to get extra dollars to me. When I came in today, they gave me attitude about asking their opinion if my nails could handle gel or should do a regular mani to be safer. I decided regular mani, and even though the woman had quoted me $5 to remove my previous gel manicure, when I paid she said she made a mistake it was actually $10. Which just seems suspect because I went with the cheaper manicure, so she made up her extra money by charging me more for the polish removal. It's an unprofessional and unpleasant environment and I won't be back. It's too bad because I used to really enjoy Luxi and have gone consistently for years. read more

The spa is pretty decent. I patronize because it's convenient. I do think the prices are a bit high, but the membership allows you to get discounts on future services. My main issue is with one of the technicians who DOES NOT listen. Her name is Hera and each time she's done my nails there has been a problem. First, she isn't friendly at all. She barely addresses you while working on you. She massacred my cuticles the first time. The second time, I asked her to cut my nails down a bit more and she told me it would be fine after she filed them. They were still too long. The last time was the final straw. I had been doing some gardening and my gel wraps had grown out. Consequently, there was some dirt around the edges, which I pointed out to her. I thought she'd take a file or something to get the dirt out of the edges before applying new gel but she didn't. I stopped her and said that I didn't want gel over top of the dirt. Again, she brushed me off and said not to worry, and that I was just seeing dead skin she'd cut away later. She proceeded to finish. When I realized she had every intention of covering my nails, I stopped her again and said "absolutely not". She replied, "next time I do over". The nails she finished were misshaped and sloppy. I asked to speak to the manager and Hera followed me, speaking in Korean instead of just explaining to ME, the customer, the issue. The manager translated and said "she said you need a new set". Really? Why didn't she just say that when I expressed my concern. I would've gotten a new set . I cannot tolerate customer service employees who refuse to listen to their clients. The manager asked what she could do to make it better. She fixed my nails to an acceptable extent and I told her I never wanted Hera to work on me again. Only the Korean ladies here, not realizing I was Korean, talked shit about me while they were doing my pedicure (I have short toes) and went on about them and laughing. Just because of that, I'll probably never come back even though it's one of the better nail spots downtown. Really unprofessional service just based on their attitude. Previously had another lady talk about my SNS powder nails (also in Korean not realizing I was Korean) complaining how hard they were to take off and why I would get something like that to begin with in an extremely negative tone only Koreans would understand. Been die hard luxi customer for about two years (bi-monthly+). I want to love it I really really do. Over the last couple months I've walked out disappointed every time. My new sets lift almost instantly ($110) and my pedicures are midicore at best. None of the (very nice) ladies can give a pedicure. Paint job sloppy and they don't take any dead skin off. I am usually not the one to write a review ever but my recent experience at Luxi Nails and Spa in Highland Park, NJ called for it. I have been going to Luxi Nails consistently for almost two years now because I liked the product and how long my gel manicure last. Unfortunately the last three experiences led me to never return to this Luxi Nails salon  ever again. First of all the owner of the salon has segregated her employees. The Spanish employees are only allowed to do pedicures  while the Koreans employees sit at their tables and do the gel manicure, regular manicures, and acrylic nails. The owner is also Korean and honestly speaking, the Spanish employees are better in their work ethic and the time they take to make sure the customer is happy. The second to last time I went to do my nails, a Korean employee did my gel manicure. She did a horrible job causing my nail polish to bubble just two days after I went to do my nails. This had never happened to me before. Unfortunately I did not have time to go back and do my nails again until three weeks after. When I returned and complained about it, the owner and the employee that did my nails did not say anything, not even a sorry. Today I called to make an appointment for myself and mother to get a pedicure and gel manicure for my mother's birthday. I requested a certain employee to do our pedicure and gel manicures and the owner said that that employee could not do my gel manicure because she was only assigned to do pedicures. I asked her to please allow the employee to do my nails since I had a horrible experience the last time I went to do my nails there. The owner then said if I  didn't like the service then I could go somewhere else and then ended the conversation by saying that she was too busy to talk. I couldn't believe that the owner would treat her customers like this. I would not recommend going to this Luxi Nails!!! They do not care or value their customers. All they care about is $$$$. I've been meaning to write this review for a while but I kept putting it off but I decided it was finally time. DO NOT COME HERE, EVER! THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST, MOST UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS PEOPLE EVER. I'm sure you've heard horror stories of nail salon employees talking sh*t about their clients WHILE working on them, well this is a pretty bad one. Here's the story: My girlfriends and I went to Rutgers and we would come get our nails done regularly here. We ended up recommending this place to a few people so about 7 of us were regulars here. There was a student discount, and they did a decent job on our nails. One day, my two girlfriends and I came to get our nails done. One of my friends is Korean, my other friend is Chinese, and I'm Japanese. We all get seated to get our gel manicures and I was the first one to be finished so I got up and went to wait on the side. A few minutes later, my Korean friend finishes up and comes to join me and looks extremely upset. She says to me "I don't want to say anything now but I'll tell you what just happened once we get in the car." Once all 3 of us leave and get in the car, she immediately tells us what happened.While she was getting her nails done, she was unhappy with how they were turning out since the woman did not paint around the edge of the nail as you're supposed to. She politely asks if this could be done in order to preserve the manicure longer, as this is a process done at every good nail salon. The woman still did not do it after her one hand so she pointed it out and politely asked again. At this point the woman turns to the worker next to her and says in Korean "She's annoying, she's making me do this even though I told her it's the same thing" My friend is a native Korean speaker so she immediately says back to her in Korean "Well then don't do it." The woman was taken aback and quickly tried to cover up that she was "cursing about the nail polish" and not my friend and then says "oh if you're Korean why didn't you talk to me in Korean and why'd you just speak in English the whole time?" She then tried to accuse my friend of "tricking" her, even though she is not obligated to speak Korean since she was with my other friend and I, who SPEAK ENGLISH. After my friend's nails were done, the woman pulled her aside and handed her a voucher for a free manicure and attempted to bribe her to promise not to tell anybody about what happened. Needless to say, Luxi lost 7 regular customers that day and we have NEVER been back since. We also make sure to tell everybody not to EVER go here. Here's a good tip for the workers of Luxi - 1. Don't assume your client can't understand the language you speak 2. Don't talk sh*t about your clients right in front of them in the first place. read more

This is my go to place for a gel fill and pedicure. I absolutely felt compelled to write a review since I saw a few negative ones. I have been coming here for nearly 8 years and I will never go anywhere else. It's very clean. Not to mention my favorite part is the hot stones whenever I am getting a pedicure. Clearly they are busy because they actually do a good job. If you don't like to wait then I suggest calling ahead and making an appointment. I always walk in, during the spring/summer it's definitely busier and I have had to wait a decent amount which I don't mind since I never made an appointment and will wait for good quality. I really do believe in getting what you pay for so I do believe that it is more expensive than other salons but not by much and in my opinion definitely worth it. I have had gel tips last a month before getting a fill and only because they grew out. Some people that come in are rude and expect to get things for free I've noticed. I have always been told of extra charges for French, gel removal, etc. prior to it being done and have heard it being explained to other customers every time I am in there.
