I cannot recommend Luxury Detail in San Mateo enough! I brought in my 2017 black VW GTI, which was showing its age with various minor scratches and a dulling exterior. I opted for their "Q-tip Detailing" package, which included a full paint correction, and the results are honestly mind-blowing. Black cars are notoriously hard to keep perfect, but Shawn McNamara completely transformed the vehicle. Every single one of those pesky minor scratches has disappeared, and the depth of the shine is incredible--the car looks brand new again. Beyond the stunning exterior work, the interiors were also nicely refreshed and feel spotless. It's clear they take immense pride in the "fine details" that most shops overlook. On top of the quality of work, Shawn and his son are a total pleasure to work with. It's rare to find that level of professionalism paired with such a friendly, family-business atmosphere. Not only does this business do awesome detailing work at a fairly affordable price, but they also do indoor custom Car Storage. That has helped me out tremendously throughout the past year. Starsky is a great dude and always awesome to be around. I've actually got my Mustang that is stored up there for sale and he is helping to assist in the process and even advertising it for me. I would highly recommend giving this business a shot. And the indoor Car Storage is also pretty affordable. When I first took the car there, it had small scratches and damage from somebody throwing tires on the hood. They were able to get that out. They also removed a rust stain from a water leak in the garage on the hood. The next time I needed it detailed it was because I took it to Tahoe for about a month and it got covered in tree sap . I live in Redwood Shores where there has been a huge amount of street resurfacing going on, which I've made a point to not have to drive through. However, the other day I got stuck on Redwood Shores Parkway, in the middle of their workings. The next morning when walking by my auto, I felt spots all over the drivers side, which was alongside their workings. Tried washing and waxing it off but it didn't help. I went by Toole's Garage on Washington street and asked if they could recommend a GOOD/GREAT/AMAZING/FANTASTIC detail shop and the person I was speaking with recommended Luxury Detail Inc. on Center Street, around the corner. I went over, met the owner who came out and looked at my car. He felt and saw the residual spotting on the side of the car and recommended a Clay Bar Sanding, saying it would clean it up and make revitalize the paint, as it was painted in 2002. I asked him also about a ceramic coating, he gave me all the information, what would be done and how it would turn out. Lucky for me he had an opening the following day, Saturday. I dropped the car off at 9:00AM and picked it up around or after 3:30PM. WOW, amazing, REALLY AMAZING. The car looks FABULOUS and the paint looks like a fresh job. What a great job they did. So, I normally detail my own cars. I have been doing this for over 20 years. Had my own business out of high school and actually did well. However, my wife wanted to get the cars done as a surprise for me and got a deal on groupon. So, she did the detail but added on the claybar. I REALLY wanted to be happy with the job. But after a day, I am not. Lets start off: My wife and I dropped off our F150 SCREW to get some love. Told them to do a good job because we are bringing our 911 next week. 1. When we dropped off the truck, I had specifically mentioned to pay attention to the roof as it has been forgotten by detailers before. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DO A GOOD JOB. What was the first thing I checked? The roof. And did they do a good job? NOPE. The front edge of the roof looks like they decided to tape it and miss the edge from the clay-bar. Completely missed it. They also missed a lot of the dips in the roof. 2. The service included exterior treatment. I walk up to the truck and all the black is grey. Well, except for one door pocket. I brought it up and the guy say.. Oh, it dried up. Can't do anything about it. REALLY? They why is one still shiny black and the spot RIGHT NEXT TO IT IS GREY? Instead of just grabbing a rag and bottle and redoing it, he gave excuses. Whatever. Lots of spots were half done or one trim wasn't even touched. I went home and applied Mother vinyl protectant to the other door pockets and then just to prove to myself that the dude really is full of shit, I applied it to part of the front trim by the wipers. I let it sit in the sun for a couple days. Guess what? Still shiny black. If your stuff dries and vaporizes in less than a couple of hours, get new stuff because that shit is cheap and not LUXURY. 3. Interior was done OK. They did a good job on the carpet shampoo. Not sure what kind of leather cleaner/conditioner they used, but it had a off putting smell. It didn't bring out the leather smell like I am used to, but that is just preference. Maybe people like that smell. 4. Lots of little spots, I mean lots of spots, small details that were missed. That really shouldn't have been with a little bit of attention. Like the gas door. I opened the gas door and it was FILTHY. Opened the tailgate. Edges were missed. Inside, the shifter. Sure they cleaned with it in Park. But when I shifted into D, the top part of the shifter was FILTHY. Like I said, I really wanted to be happy. Again, they didn't do a crappy job, because looking at the interior, they actually did a decent job with the cleanliness of the interior. its just who ever did the exterior treatment, needs to get retrained. +1 on the interior +1 on the price -1 on the roof -1 on attention to detail -1 for giving excuses rather than just fixing it. read more

MY CAR FELT LIKE IT HAD A FACIAL (5 stars) These guys are use to fancy sport cars but I rolled up there with my 2003 Honda and received the same service!!! If you are really into taking care of your car, this is the place to come for a Full Detailing. They do an amazng job and trust me because I've had my car detailed around the Bay Area and this place just takes #1 in my book. It is appointment only and the are in good business so do expect a few weeks to get in but it is definately worth the stop in. Was lucky to hit a LivingSocial deal for Full Detail (interior and exterior) for $85. Usually it's $175 - 235. Full Detailing takes about 3hrs. I had added an additional 4th wax on top of the 3 coats of wax hand polish for $45 (usually it's $90 but it still was within my deal. My service took about 4hrs. Instead of spending $260, i spent $130. Hand Wash Vacuum interior Interior and exterior windows Whipe down interior and dashboards Apply tire dressing Wipe door and trunk jambs Tires/wheel/wheel wells Air pressure dry Clay bar and crystal washed 3 coats of wax hand polished Complete interior shampoo Condition leather/vinyl/plastic/rubbers Engine cleen included (optional) Q-tip finish After the 4hrs of waiting around my car rolled out from the back looking sharp, shinny, and extremely clean. They litereally cleaned every single inch of my car. Even places other detail shops didn't or could not get to. My car felt NEW, looked NEW, and the 4 coats of wax put that protection on my car. Appreciate the business and the company from Starsky & crew as I waited in the waiting room watching football. Will I be back? Despite the doors opening a few minutes after my "scheduled appointment time" (that seemed to be less of an appointment and more of an idea of how many people would be in that day) and a bit of a wait, I'm thrilled with the detailing service. We brought in a car that was... less than clean. You see, we have two dogs that like to go to off-leash dog parks. And we just moved 1,000 miles and had to haul our own houseplants and other stuff. And we go to the beach. And we've hauled firewood in the car (only once! It's not a huge need in Seattle). And one of our favorite burger places in Seattle was a drive-in car-hop style place (Burgermaster). It wasn't trashed by any means but it certainly wasn't clean. As previous Seattle residents, we didn't really wash the car (with the rain, why bother?), so it was a little dusty. What we got back was a spotless car; there are details in the upholstery and car interior I'd never noticed before. The carpets are clean; I'm not even sure they were that clean when the car was new! The exterior is just as clean - washed, polished and waxed. The only thing I could possibly complain about regarding the cleaning is that it left a distinct lemon-chemical smell for a few hours, which seems to already be fading from the car. They left paper foot-well mats for both driver and passenger, so that we could not soil the carpet immediately and wait for it to be completely dry and aired-out before we were back to adding some sand and dirt to our car's interior. Some notes for people considering bringing your car in: While you *can* wait for your car, I wouldn't suggest it. We did wait, because this is our only car, and it was about five hours. It seems most people bring their car in during the early opening hours and plan to come back and pick it up around closing. I'm pretty sure we'll be back, maybe for a little less than full detail next time (just because we're obviously not spotless-car people, more like clean-but-obviously used to haul dogs and things car people, and I'd feel bad about all that cleaning going to waste!). Starsky and his crew deserve nothing less than 5 stars. They run a great business and are masters of their craft. I found Luxury Detail on yelp this past Saturday. I called them up and Starsky set me up for an appointment for later in the day (3:30p). Getting to his shop was easy enough and is within walking distance to Starbucks and the Hillsdale Mall (great place to drop off the lady). I wouldn't take my 911 turbo just anywhere. And well, she needed the pampering BAD at this point. Starsky and his crew were able to meet my need and exceed my expectations! Upon arrival, I was greeted by Starsky. He explained the different levels of work you could get done and told me what he recommended. I went with the recommended full wash, interior clean, clay bar and then 3 stage wax. I'm so glad I listened to his advice. I've never seen my P-car look so clean! The prices start at $35 for a normal wash and can go as high as $500 for a full "q-tip" detail. The place is called luxury detail for a reason; This is a place you can trust to work on your high-end toys (finally!). One thing to note about Starsky. He's a real chill guy to work with. As someone previously mentioned in their review, Starsky does become a friend instead of simply a business person providing you a service. I spent most of my time there just shooting the breeze with Starsky. He was even nice enough to help me back my car out of his driveway into the street when it was done (as I was scared stiff to scrape on the way out while also having to watch out for oncoming traffic). Our friends asked us if they could use our car as their getaway car in their wedding. So, we decorated it with a custom bow from Michaels by essentially tying it to the hood. What we didn't realize until it was too late was that there was a loose wire (that gives the bow volume) at the bottom of the bow. When we drove on the freeway, the loose wire essentially did an etch-a-sketch on the hood. Luckily the damage was isolated to an area the size of your thumb and index finger put together. Still, the wire stripped away the clear coat and carved up the primer but not down to the metal. Since the damage was so small and the car isn't a year old yet, repainting the hood wasn't an option. Fast forward, Starsky had the great idea of first buffing out the damage, then applying some touch-up paint, and finally another buff. All I can say is Starsky and his crew did an amazing job. I am super anal with defects, and I can barely even tell anything happened. Props to Luxury Detail for their excellent work, attention to detail, and awesome customer service.
