I always bring my vintage dresses to this shop for alterations. The dresses are expensive and irreplaceable due to their vintage nature. They take great care to get a perfect fit and are very understanding and respectful of the older fabrics and zippers. Folks seem nice and this place has a lot of good reviews so gave them a shot. Overall, service was acceptable however it was Very pricey, dropped off a hoodie and a long sleeve t-shirt for a wash ONLY but was charged 16 for the hoodie and 6 for Tshirt. Really pricey for wash only and NOT dry cleaning. It is really frustrating when prices are not posted and you then get a sticker shock. I think dry cleaning businesses need to be more transparent about their prices. I would have washed them myself but my washer doesn't do a great job of getting stains out on white clothing. Overall satisfied with the job but it was pricey. I hope the business will be transparent about its pricing in the near future. read more

My son was getting married and I needed clothes altered for both the wedding day and the rehearsal dinner. I bought my wedding day dress online so I needed to find a seamstress. ( Hems, dress shoulder straps shortened, tucks in places.) I found Lydia and her staff to be kind, polite, and competent. Lydia worked with me and gave me suggestions and held my hand along the way. I made visits beforehand and made sure she could do the work as my dress had lace and 4 layers to hem. She made suggestions and was timely in doing the work within my timelines. This is an alteration and cleaners but you will see 3 women working at sewing machines whenever I have visited so there is multiple talent here. I can't talk about the cost as this is something that I do not do often to make a comparison with anyone else. Lydia and her workers fill a need that Germantown has. We went here to have a dress and 3 pairs of pants altered. We explained there was no rush on the pant, but we needed the dress done for an event in 3 weeks. They told me it would take 3 weeks to do the dress alterations. We agreed on a date. Three weeks later I went to pick up. They said the pants were ready but the dress wasn't ready. I watched them find the dress, give it to a seemtress and ask her to do it right away. they told me to come back in 4 hours. She just started working on the dress. We were pretty upset because we had a tight schedule that day, but we had no choice. We went back after the 3 hours. The dress was "done", but it did not fit right. There were alterations we had agreed on that that just didn't do, or didn't do well. The shoulder straps were pinch and visibly wrinkled for example. We had to just accept it and leave because of time. For 3 pants and 1 dress, they were $50 each and it cost me $200. I was so disappointed. I would have happily paid that for better quality and less time. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone , especially black people . This is one of the most racist business I have encountered in the state of Maryland . I have gone in to drop off cloths and until lately no issues . The older woman seems to have an issue with providing good customer service and is extremely rude . I took a dress in to be clean in July and was charged 13 dollars which wasn't an issue . Took the same dress back yesterday 08/23/2024 and was charged 16 dollars . When I asked her why the increase in price she said to me in an angry tone . Don't come back without explaining the increase . This is a very racist , rude bitter old nasty woman . Absolutely disappointed with the level of service I have received from Lydia's. I called ahead of time to see if they could tailor a dress for an event I had the following weekend. They said yes, to bring it in. First, let me say the woman who greeted me was not welcoming. They treated me like I was incompetent for not knowing seeing. In fact they kept repeating "you don't know sewing". I was also told "this look like a grandma dress". Okay, rude. I liked my dress. That's aside from the point but shows their lack of customer concern. After too much time spent on discussing what would be done they agreed the dress would be done on Thursday. It was Sunday. This stressed me out. They said the tailor didn't work Monday through Wednesday. If any other alterations were needed it could be done by Friday. I arrive at 5:30pm on Thursday as told and I am handed my dress to try it. It is exactly the same except the side is noticeable pinched and sewed together. I was utterly confused. No fabric seemed to have been removed at all and the dress was just as large and bulky. I explained how the dress still didn't fit but I could not come back the next day so they advised me to wait. In between customers she restitched my dress and it was still too big. Once again telling me I didn't know what I was talking about that it looked fine and I didn't know sewing. I am completely dissatisfied with their work and customer service. I actually can't believe they have so many Yelp stars. The tailor is trying once again to fix my dress but I assure you it will be to no avail. What a shame. It truly was such a beautiful dress too. Now I am left without a dress for my event and most likely out of $100 plus dollars. Great! Upon paying, she did not trust that I paid because it did not ask for a signature. I used a debit card so it verified my pin. I had to spend another 10 minutes while she made a phone call to figure it out. Please go somewhere else. read more

I do not recommend. When I went to pick up my suit they came up with a last minute condition to scam a little bit more money out of me. Service here was friendly and accommodating. I had a ball gown that required a lot of alterations and Lydia's Tailor was able to get it done and back to me in a matter of days. The hemline was perfect with my height heel, but the straps were on the short side. The neckline had a low-v with mesh paneling in between that was alerted a little too tight so it pulled and the stitching showed. I wasn't thrilled with those two things, but otherwise it was a decent experience. I'd come back for basic tailoring needs. read more

I gave them suits to be cleaned and they broke all buttons to 2 blazers. One blazer was new and was missing one button, single button jacket closure. The other blazer came back with no buttons. This was a good learning experience because I will not be going back and am grateful I did not give them all of my suits to clean. Consider this post a warning because no customer expects to come home from the cleaners and look for spare buttons to sew on blazers. read more

Amazing place!!!! I put on a pretty floral dress and had just dry cleaned it at a much more expensive place. I realized that there was a gaping hole at the bottom of my dress. I was disappointed I went to Lydia 's and they were completely unshakeable. I took off my dress in the dressing room and the lady there came and got it from me. She stitched my entire dress in 5 minutes as well as another hole that was near the side of my dress. It only cost $13!!!! She was a Godsend I had 3 important meetings that day. I sashayed around with class and grace. You would have never been able to tell that my dress had a hole in it. Must visit! read more

I'm glad I met this dry cleaning place. Even during this horrible pandemic, the staff have been very nice and pleasant. I enjoy the atmosphere. Also, I notice when I give them large amount of dress shirts, they're clean, pressed and the buttons are intact. Do not ever go to ZIPS cleaners near LOTTE PLAZA. They have been destroying my buttons and forcing me to pay for them. They crack my buttons and this location doesn't do that. They even break my buttons on new shirts I haven't even worn yet. ZIPS is not worth it. You pay for what you get and this is definitely one of the best local dry cleaners I've ever been to. This is not being biast this is the truth. If you want nicely tailored clothes and really good dry clean clothes without buttons being cracked or broken come to Lydia's Dry Cleaning service. Well worth it. This is for all the men that need to wear nice expensive shirts which yes mine ranged from $30-$80 shirts, this place I could tell did a very good job. Oh my goodness...Lydia saved my life!!! I gained way too much weight during COVID and could not fit into my bridesmaid's dress for my best friend's wedding. I went to different bridal shops and other dry cleaners, and everyone said it was hopeless...then I met Lydia. She is a MAGICIAN!!! In less than three weeks, she was able to make a satin dress with no give (and 5 inches of exposed back that no zipper could close!) fit PERFECTLY!!!! She charged next-to-nothing, given the work she did. She did three fittings until it was absolutely perfect. As I told her each time I came in, you are a GODSEND. Warning: the owner of this business can bear grudges. They revealed my full name in their reply lol. Do I expect my full home address to be revealed? Tip: there is a dry clean store at the plaza called ZIPS, check it out if you like. Don't dry clean your coats here! They won't clean them for you, they just give you your coats without even cleaning, so please check carefully before you take them home! Of course I had them clean my coats again. This time they looks cleaned. However, when the staff explained it to me, she always try to interrupt me wouldn't let me finish...and claim those white dirts are from my coats and completely ignored any explanation for those stains. I mean... what the actual... ???? Anyway, not going to do any business with the EDIT: In response to their reply: it is false and misleading. (Anyway, I believe you can see how they turn a loyal customer away and how do they treat a customer) 0. Their attitude is why I wanted to write this review. At the end of day, they tried to completely ditch any responsibility and blame my coat lol and kinda try to express that "see, not us didn't clean your coat". Moreover, she interrupted me all the time, wouldn't let me finish, why would she do that?? Omg 1. In my statement above, I already said I gave them second try, but it looks like their reply completely ignored what I said, lol, just like what they did to me. ( not only the white dirts but also stains on the sleeves and the smells.... definitely not cleaned) 2. As far as I remember, I have 2 complaints against them, including this one. Last time it was they botched my white dress shirt with stains on it. Of cause I have to ask them to redo it, the stain on white shirt was too obvious. They took it back and redo it for me, I'm ok with that. I don't know where does "every time " come from. Maybe they just cannot stand slight critics and be of negligence, and be a liar. 3. I inherited three suits from my recently deceased grandfather. They almost fit me, but needed some tweaking: an inch in pant length, an inch out of the chest, etc. Lydia's Tailor was fabulous. She was able to do the fitting the same day. I received a written receipt for the total cost. There's a discount if you pay in cash. Each alteration cost about $30. The suits now all fit very well. I feel like I can carry out the legacy of my grandfather-- and carry him with me -- while I'm wearing his suits. read more

The zipper on my favorite coat BROKE!!!!! I brought my favorite, warm winter coat in to Lydia's and was told that because of the nature of the brake she wasn't sure she would be able to fix it and if she was able to fix it, she didn't know how long it would last. I bought a last minute reception dress for my wedding so I can perform a surprise dance (that was also a last minute idea) with my bridesmaids for my now Husband. I read some reviews online saying that this place was super fast in the turnaround time, so I gave them a shot. It was well-worth it! I arrived flustered because everything was super hectic for me leading up to the day of my wedding. They found out that I needed my dress three days before my wedding and agreed that they would meet the deadline. I originally just wanted to take up my dress so I won't trip on it, but they also recommended making the back a little tighter, and added some padding for my chest. A week later, my fiance picked up my dress because I was busy attending other appointments. I tried on the dress and the length was perfect! They added the cups and everything. However, the back part that they recommended on making tighter was still the same? If I had time to pick up the dress, there would've been a chance for me to try it on then and there to see that the back was still loose. Overall, it was a good experience! :) read more

I've been here a handful of times the last few years to get alterations done. Each time I've come I had great service and my clothing alterations were great! It was always the same lady too. I recently went here to get a sequin dress hemmed and I don't know what it is but the place seemed different. It was a different person assisting me which wasn't the problem, it's when I got my dress back that I noticed an issue. The chalk they use to create the hem line was still very visible after the dress was complete (my dress was green and I could see white all over the bottom) and there were long loose threads which led me to believe they didn't do the greatest job with the alteration. I went out of my way to come here because of the quality of their work but now I don't think I would anymore because my last dress was not up to the standard I used to get. Also on top of the $78 I had to pay they added a processing fee.. that was also new. read more
