This is a real gym. There are numerous pieces of equipment for every muscle in the body, and unlike the big chain gyms that have broken equipment for weeks on end, sometimes months, every piece of equipment here works. If something breaks, it's immediately fixed. The TVs have all the channels. Parking is decent and the staff is friendly. I have worked out at Fitness19, NYSC, and LA Fitness for years, but this is the right gym for me. read more

This gym is cheap but incredibly filthy. Having gone there for several months I finally broke up with the gym. It just grossed me out, it was a festering ground for bacteria and getting a staph infection. I never saw one person wipe down their machine after using it. You can tell cleanliness is not there strong point. At the least hire a cleaning crew once a month. Everything's outdated. I guess you get what you pay for. It's 30 a month, but to put your membership on hold you have to pay and to leave the gym you have to pay $50. I always see several of the employees just chit chatting behind the counter. Recently joined here last week and I am more than 100% satisfied. Anthony the owner is KIND, CORDIAL and always pleasant as is Alex and the entire front desk staff. Even the other members here who are strangers to me, smile and say hello, everyone just seems to he in a pleasant mood here. Anthony cares 100% about customer service and even if he were to have a gripe with someone(which I've never seen), he'd speak to them in a respectful and pleasant manner in an effort to resolve the issue, unlike Bruce Dansky, the owner/manager of Retro Fitness in Oceanside who is tyrannical, RUDE, and legit has absolutely NO CLUE how to speak to people. Okay. Don't listen to the people that give this place 1 star because this gym is is good if you have certain needs that I'll try to map out. 1. No distractions - what I mean by this is that you get in, do your workout, and get out. There is no sauna, no basketball court, no swimming pool. Just good machines and an endless supply of BPM radio. 2. Lifters gym - yes they do have a decent cardio room with ~10 treadmills and ~10 elliptical machines and 2 stair masters but I'd say if you are trying to build muscle and size, this is a great option on you. Also the gym goers are a good source of information. (For the most part) 3. Budget friendly - this place runs me $30 a month which is well in my budget. In my opinion I think it's well worth it even if you only go to the gym 10 times a month. 4. Decent hours - 5-11 on weekdays is ok. Saturdays til 8 and Sunday til 6. I wish they would open til 12 because I now usually get home at 11 from work in NYC. I think if they opened for an hour longer it would make a lot more people happy, but overall the hours are fine. 5. Friendly staff and environment - I joined in 1/2014 and I had never lifted before and I can say that I've never felt intimidated and often times people helped me with machines I didn't know how to use. Okay, I hope this provides you with a better understanding of this place and if you're willing to try it out they have a 3 day free pass and if you join you can bring another person for free on Fridays. The place is cleaner than ever and cooler in the summertime than before. Anthony is a certified trainer with a head full of legitimate knowledge that he shares without being a drill sergeant about it. He is friendly and welcoming to all who enter his place. The equipment is in good repair with a few chips and scratches, never dirty. All the tools to get the job done are there. No excuses! 1. The cardio room is separate from the weight room which is a huge plus for me! 2. The crowd consists of elderly people, and young professionals (no loud conversations or hangouts) 3. The rooms are bright and the bathrooms are clean. Things that need to be improve: 1. The format of the weight room, you feel overwhelmed because it's not as organized. I saw legs, chest glutes, back machines by the mirror. I wish it was a little organized, it can discourage people who don't want to look like an idiot looking for the leg press 2. Employees: Don't get me wrong she was nice, but its hard conversing with a girl who is always texting on her phone. Every time I come to gym she's on the phone, and this displays a lack a uniformity to me;when you have to wave your hand at a employee to stop texting. I really wanted to like this place. It's right in the neighborhood, their rates are reasonable, and from the credentials of their trainer Anthony Babiak, I was really looking forward to starting training sessions. My first impression upon stopping in to 5 Corners, was that it was a "bro" gym that wasn't necessarily friendly, but had that feeling that once the regulars see that you're just as serious as they are, that they would welcome you. I spoke with Anthony, and another trainer (whose name fails me at the moment, but he's blonde), and they were both very friendly and willing to chat. I did get a trial card for 3 days, and didn't end up having the opportunity to use it because my schedule changed. I then saw that they had a groupon, so I decided that would be the best way to try them before joining. Since buying the groupon, I have had nothing but an awful time. I called because the groupon says to call, and the receptionist was extremely rude, and sounded bored. I came by later that night to work out, and the woman at the front desk was brisk, but otherwise nice enough. I started my workout, and as the only female in the gym other than the woman at the front desk, I felt slightly out of place, but I like to lift so I figured it was just as my first impression has indicated. Today.. I went to work out for my second time. I used the locker room to change, went out to the stretching area to do some mobility exercises and quick warm ups before lifting, and instantly someone grabbed the kettle bells I was about to use and completely ignored my attempts to get their attention. Then Anthony came over and started setting up some kind of ladder, I tried to tell him that I was about to use that space, and negotiate for the space, and I was ignored. I went to the woman at the front desk and asked her if there were any other spaces to warm up. She glanced around, and said "nah, sorry." Okay.. so, there's no where to warm up because the gym is too small and cluttered with unused equipment.. that's lovely. Oh, and no one is friendly enough to even negotiate for space, probably because they don't think I should be there. Nice... well, it's highly unlikely that I'll even finish my groupon. I'm so angry I even spent the money on that. I should've known that they were terrible since they constantly have gaudy signs up offering membership deals, and when a business gets a groupon it's often a sure sign that they're not doing that great. read more

This gym has exactly what I am looking for...If your goal is to work out, this is the place. The atmosphere is friendly, the facility is clean and the rates are competitive. I never have to wait for equipment or a treadmill and the "new" owner, Anthony is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I had a gym membership with these guys for a few months and I recently decided not to renew my membership due to changing priorities in what I want out of working out. This gym is a journeyman's gym in that it is very basic, but it gets those basics right. The atmosphere is friendly and not at all loud, an issue with other gyms I have been a part of. The price range was reasonable, especially if you are a student (bring your college or high school id for a discount). There is no special fine print in the contract you sign, so you will not get charged extra fees later on down the line (looking at YOU Planet Fitness). While I have seen other people "disgusted" by the smell, you have to ignore them. It's a gym. It's a place to sweat, lose weight, and get fit. Of course it is going to smell like something! Next, some of the equipment is outdated, sure but it is all functional and perfectly safe to operate. The cardio room is separate from the weight lifting area, which is a bonus for a lot of people. They have a Cybex ArcTrainer, which is a guaranteed easy way to lose weight quick and give you an incredible workout, so props to the owners for getting that particularly expensive piece of equipment. The locker room is small, but clean and so is the bathroom areas. Decor is outdated and the roof does leak from time to time. The parking lot is especially tiny in the back, which becomes a hassle some days, especially when the high school is off on a vacation or cancelled class. I'm a 38 year member here and have basically seen it all. Many people have complaints and some are valid -such as the a/c had not been working most of the summer and it was a bit warm-But it's a gym people not a shopping mall. I personally don't like it hot when I'm working out and I had no problems at all. Maybe because I used to work out in a garage-converted gym where it would be quite cold in the winter and quite hot in the summer when I was younger so maybe it doesn't bother me as much as others. I really can't say too much about the cardio room since I'm an outdoor runner. However I do use the elliptical on occasion when necessary and it works fine. Yes, I have heard that some of the other cardio equipment is older and needs to be updated and /or replaced, Other than that-The work out equipment is absolutely fine and have no issues with getting in a good work out. Basic gym, good equipment, great hours. Friendly personable staff., no classes . Only 1 complaint, the televisions are always tuned to either Fox News, military history or mixed martial arts...that's the clientele, not the management tho. Hard to get pumped watching those!!! One of the best gyms I've ever been in. Cardio room, free weights, and machines, no bull shit, no time wasted. There are a few guys who don't do Shit and use the place as a social club, but they're easily avoidable. If you're looking to do a circuit and lose some weight, this place is not for you. I can offer a number of positive attributes about Five Corners: Enough equipment to get a solid work out, clean, good refreshment area, solid cardio area, and well educated, non intrusive personal trainers always willing to help without the need to purchase the package deal, specially priced only for you. But the best thing I can say is Five Corners understands where it stands within the world of health clubs. Understanding this position, they are not trying to be something that they are not. For example, need multi-count super soft and fluffy towels? Not here. A venerable potpourri of soaps, creams, and conditioners for your shower? Nope. An employee whose sole responsibility is to wipe the machine when you are done? Sorry, do it yourself. A pharmacy like area for your powders, potions, water and protein fixes? Five Corners offers a solid selection, without the pharmacist and white coat treatment. All I am trying to say is this place is a gym that offers a clean and well equipped environment at an outstanding price. If you need the other bells and whistles, please go to the other clubs on the island, get your towel, soaps, pills and powders, and alike. But remember, those come with a price; a serious price. And at the end of the day, we all use the same treadmill, dumb bells and pec deck. read more

It's a true sweat gym. The ac unit that was fixed isn't powerful enough. If your a size 0 you can fit thru the machines, they are stacked on top of each other. The machines are NOT up kept or even wiped down. You walk in and it's your guess to the layout of the machines, nothing is organized. This is by far the best gym I've ever been to. First, the members are friendly and knowledgeable and always willing to help wit any questions. With that said though, it's not a place for pure socialization--The environment in general is congenial and conducive to training, but the members are serious about their training. If you're serious about yours too, you'll fit right in. Second, the staff is also incredibly helpful and well-versed in everything related to fitness. I suffered extensive injuries after a serious head-on collision. I was on a motorcycle going about 60mph and was hit by a drunk driver doing about the same. Numerous broken bones later, I found myself limping around at the Five Corners facility. I used a walker and sling. Whenever I got to the front door, members would literally fight with each other to be the first to open the door for me. That spirit of helpfulness continued--and continues--to date, and please note: THIS WAS THE ONLY GYM WHOSE OWNER AND STAFF WERE WILLING TO LET ME USE THEIR FACILITY FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY-RECUPERATIVE TRAINING. I was turned away by countless others who cited concerns about their insurance and liability. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT I WOULD HAVE EITHER DIED OR BEEN PERMNENTLY PARAYLZED WERE IT NOT FOR THIS GYM AND THE PEOPLE IN IT. Third, the price very reasonable, and they'll never seek to dupe you with long term contracts, small print or any other nonsense. Fourth, I go everyday, sometimes in the morning, others in the evening, and I've never had difficulty parking right in front of the gym. Fifth I've never had to wait for machines and equipment that are in high demand. As an example, at other gyms, only rarely was I able to get to the bench presses. This gym has four, one of which is inverted. It's SUCH A PLEASURE to have access to the equipment you want to use when you want it! Sixth, I've never had difficulty finding bilingual staff members. As I am from Spain and my wife from Colombia, this was another decisive factor for us. Seventh, I've never had any security concerns whatsoever. Members often leave their cellphones, MP3s or personal devices for training lying around and none of it ever disappears. In fact, I've been interrupted while training by concerned members asking me if I forgot my discman. I always put a lock on my locker, but my point is that it's a safe environment, and that does, in my opinion, impact the way in which most people train. Eighth, there is excellent redundancy in the machines. By that I mean that if there's one machine you like for working your abs or whatever, you'll always find another. And the machines are always working perfectly. When they do break as all do on occasion, my experience has been that they are immediately fixed. Ninth, while there tends to be more of a crowd up until about 6 or 7 pm, I've never had to wait more than a moment to use any given machine. There is a definite difference between the older morning crowd and the younger evening one, but I've enjoyed both the friendliness and helpful nature of the morning folks and the dedication and diligence of the younger crowd. Tenth, there's a separation between the free weight area, the aerobic fitness area, the area used for stretching and that with machines, and I benefit from each in a different way. There are tons of televisions in the place, and all the aerobic machines have outlets to plug in earphones so you can listen to news, sports etc. I've always appreciated the fact that the staff allows members to change the channel as per their tastes and that there are more than enough TV sets to meet everyone's needs and tastes. All in all, this really is the best facility I've ever trained at, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have access to the facility itself, its staff and all its members. I recommend Five Corners fully, and I hope you will have as an enriching and rewarding an experience as I have as you work to attain your health and fitness goals, whatever they may be. I came to this gym because I am new to the area and needed a new gym closer to home. When I first entered the gym I was not greeted by anyone, instead I was greeted by a horrible hot and humid feeling, very unpleasant smell, and what looked like very outdated equipment. When I asked for information on joining the gym I was directed to the manager, his name was something with an M. I explained that I was new to the area and was looking for a gym to call home. He asked me where I was coming from and what gym I had previously went to (which I assume is normal) but then he proceeded to talk to me about personal info that had nothing to do with the gym , which made me feel extremely uncomfortable (um, hello I came here for info on joining a gym, not to be preyed on by a Jersey shore wanna be). Then he offered me a free training session with him which is normal, as I've worked out at other gyms before but he commented that I look like I'm in great shape and don't have much to work on but he'd love to do a training session with me. At that point I was just beyond myself and couldn't believe that this cocky guy thought that his "charm" would get me to join the gym, ew. As if the condition of the place weren't enough, this is NOT the type of person I would want training me, very uncomfortable.I am not a person who writes reviews but I just could not get over this. Sadly unprofessional, if this is what the manager is like I'd hate to see how the rest of the staff is. Needless to Say I walked out and I am now a proud member of another local gym. read more

I used to come here when it was Golds Gym and must say that this place is still the same. They have the same equipment and cardio machines for over 15 years and haven't changed much. Its good for a quick local fix but is getting worse by the week between the upkeep and its members. The staff are young teens who always need someone else to help them, and who dont clean the machines EVER. You can run your hand across any machine or ledge in the cardio room and will get a finger full of dust for a gym they rarely clean. I am highly allergic to dust and must say its getting harder to breath in that sweat box and nothing is being done about it. On another note there is no lighting in the back parking lot and its very dangerous. During the winter months you cant see the ice and other days just a scary scene. Like I said before its convenient on the go work out its has what you need to get the job done but needs a lot of work. read more
