We were looking to grab a quick lunch after setting up camp at Sam Houston Jones State Park just a few miles away from this restaurant, my son suggested Roundtop Burger House so we made the drive. It's a pretty simple place, you place your order at the counter and they bring it to the table, the fountain drinks are self-serve. There were a few customers already seated but our food arrived within a reasonable time and was still hot - we all order burgers and crinkle fries, I choose the Mad Dog Burger, easily a 1/2 pound of fresh beef, jalapeño mayo, fresh cut jalapeños and pepper-jack cheese with pickles, onions, tomatoes and shredded lettuce on a toasted bun - this was definitely a delicious hand crafted burger and we all three ate all of the burgers and crispy fries. The staff here is extremely friendly and went above and beyond to ensure everything was as we ordered it and that we were all happy with our lunch. Got their version of a Philly cheesesteak and fries. It was more of a roast beef poor boy than a Philly cheesesteak. Had OK flavor, but a cheesesteak it was not. The crinkle cut fries did come out perfectly hot, and the food as a whole was cooked quickly. NOT A GOOD BURGER I was so excited and looking forward to trying this place for lunch after reading some of the positive reviews and from the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area. I had high hopes of getting a very good burger from this place, but I was so disappointed with taste and quality of the burger. Because of my passion for trying different restaurants in search of the best product and service, I enjoy sharing my dining experiences with others via online and social media for their enjoyment. I write a review on my dining experience each time I dine out. Some reviews are good, some reviews are bad, and some reviews are mixed. My Review: First, let me say that the place is clean, and the employees are very friendly. The tables and self-serve drink area were clean. The bathroom was clean and stocked with soap, hot water, and paper towel. There are a variety of menu options (burgers, poboys, sandwiches, salads, fried shrimp, fried fish). However, the burger and fries are some of the worst that I have ever eaten. I ordered the Bacon Cheddar Burger fully dressed. The burger, although good in size was below average and not what I was expecting with a price point of $12.33 for a burger combo to include fries and a fountain drink. I will NEVER order a burger from this place again. Visiting during lunch time (11:45 AM) and due to the time, it for my order to be ready (took about 10 minutes), I was expecting a good hot and juicy burger. WRONG ANSWER!!! First, the burger was NOT cooked to order, although, it may have been assembled to order. I could tell from my experience with eating burgers from many different restaurants specializing in burgers, that this burger patty was pre-made, pre-cooked in a batch, and probably sitting in a holding bin. The burger bun was cold to the touch, not toasted, the patty was cold, not even warm, dry, overcooked, the cheese wasn't melted, and the burger was tasteless. The toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, etc.) were all fresh. The fries were hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked but the fires had salt or any kind of seasoning. Also, the online photos and images of the fries being served, including their Facebook page shows crinkle fries (which I love and what I was expecting) were not crinkle fries, but regular cut fries. The condiment bottles including the ketchup bottle was filled and probably the cleanest that I've ever seen. There were also plenty of napkins available. The Question. Will I give this place another opportunity to impress me? I probably will, but I will most likely order a different menu option. read more

This old fashion burger house is pretty good. Mrs. Binky was a ray of sunlight to all the patrons. She offered cupcakes made from a 90-year-old employee. They were fresh, and taste just like your grandparent made them. This backyard style burger was on point to my surprise. Though the French fries and onion rings were not made in house. A fast food style restaurant in a sit down locale, the dining area is small and you order as you walk in. When I visited the wait staff all seemed to be angry, and ultimately only one person was working the register and dining area, and protesting about it loudly. The soda fountain was out of carbonation and wasn't going to be fixed during my stay. I ordered a burger and fries, which were as expected, but nothing out of the ordinary. The food here is always very good and well prepared. To me the burgers patties are more of an old school pre-formed variety. Don't get me wrong they're very good, but don't go expecting a super thick hand patted burger or you might be disappointed. All the toppings are fresh and tasty as well. I've tried both the fries and onion rings as sides and both are well above average and shouldn't disappoint. I've also tried a few of the PO'boys, which were good as well and for sure with one of these you won't go away hungry. The staff is friendly and service is very good, especially since they have been busy on most of my visits. It's a lot like the really good non-chain burger joints I remember from when I was a kid.
