Have we REALLY been ordering BA for 25 years? Wow. As locals, we appreciate grabbing a quick to-go order on our way home from work or (as we often enjoy) on our way to the beach. We ordered a few subs and the pizza breadsticks and yes, all were delicious. The roast beef sub is still great after all these years. When did it become so difficult to order/find a grinder baked in a real pizza oven? Makes a huge difference. Wifey enjoyed the pesto chicken sub. And yes, we BOTH enjoyed the hell out of the garlicky, cheesey breadsticks. We look forward to our next pre-sunset BA run.

TL; DR: great pizza, order ahead This is a great pizza place that has great prices. Heads up - We called ahead on a Thursday and the pizza was ready in 50 minutes around dinner time. Overall this is a great spot for pizza for a group of people that won't break the bank

Gluten free pizza - so good.

The best gluten free pizza I've had! I also got a salad with ranch and it tasted so fresh and the ranch definitely tasted homemade - amazing! The staff was friendly when I called to order the and delivery driver was extremely friendly even though he had to deliver in the rain. Overall definitely recommend!

Was in town for a long weekend with my family and nothing feeds a family better than pizza! My husband and I, who have been coming to the Saugatuck area for years, had always had Back Alley on our radar but we'd never been. So we decided to order from them. We got a couple of pies, a plain cheese pepperoni and a deluxe with Italian sausage, onion, pepperoni, green pepper, and mushrooms. The pizza itself is on the thinner side, not quite a NY style kind of thin but thinner than a hand tossed round. The pies were tasty overall. The crust was sturdy, and the sauce had a weight and good flavor, the cheese on the pepperoni was browned a little more than I typically like (I like a gooey cheese) but still quite good. We'd definitely order from them again! Next time I'd be game to try one of their grinders, too!

Ordered a small Douglas Social. One of the best pizzas I've had all year!! The combination of the spinach, feta and red onions was perfect!

Excellent pizza. However, they are so busy on weekend nights, you'd better order 1.5 hours before picking it up!

Incredible food that I'm Gibbs dream about for a few more nights yet. I had the walleye, my fiancée had the pot pie (called something else on the menu; I forget exactly what). She only didn't finish hers because she eats like a bird, but I finished hers even after I'd inhaled mine. I came even describe the flavors (except to say the horseradish mixed in the potato top of the pot pie is inspired!) I will just say that each bite hit the sweet, savory, and salty notes just right all at the same time. Can't forget to mention: the service was lovely. Our server was very kind, personable, and relaxed, and she offered us great recommendations, and boy am I glad I listened. I can't recommend this place enough. I hear the James Beard nominations may be snooping around, and they'd be right to.

We rave about this place to all of our friends every year because the food is superb and the service has always been excellent. Unfortunately, today's breakfast experience completely tarnished that reputation. We were so excited to be back and ordered a full breakfast, totaling over $75. I ordered the Penny Royale Breakfast, but when I tried the sausage, it just wasn't to my taste. I politely asked our waitress if I could swap the sausage for bacon instead. To my absolute shock, her immediate response was a flat "No!" She informed me that she would not swap it because "everyone likes our sausage here" and insisted it was just a "preference thing" because they use high-quality goods. She refused to take the sausage back or accommodate the swap, stating she could only put in a separate order for a side of bacon that we would have to pay extra for. In all my years of dining out, I have never experienced such rigid, dismissive customer service. For a restaurant we love so much, it was incredibly disheartening that the staff wouldn't accommodate a simple request to keep a loyal customer happy over a piece of breakfast meat. We ultimately chose not to press the issue further because we didn't want to completely ruin what had been a peaceful morning, but the interaction left a terrible taste in our mouths. We always tip generously in cash, but today we intentionally left a minimal tip of $2 on the credit card to reflect the pathetic service. It is incredibly disappointing when a place with so many things going for them forgets that hospitality and accommodating guests with such a small request is just so important Later the same day after posting my message above on Yelp the manager responds as you can see below. In response I'd just like to say that there is no need to justify poor customer service. And a customer should not feel bad for not liking something. We are all paying customers and we should pay for the things that we like and not pay for the things that we don't like simple and easy. I just hope you do better for your customers in the future.

Everything on the 9-course tasting was next level. Perfectly timed courses allowed me to take my time enjoying the food, which means I did not eat too fast and felt full but not stuffed when I left. Once we all looked at the menu ahead of time, including the people who made the reservation, we all quickly realized it was much more upscale and limited than what most of us were looking for. Seriously, this place is for sophisticated eaters, and it is not right for everyone. Ya know, it's right for those people who like to spend hundreds of dollars not to get full and then like to gloat about how fancy their palette is because they ate at a gourmet restaurant. We all saw the movie "The Menu", right? We tried calling to cancel our reservation, but were told that cancellations within 24 hours require a $20 per person fee, which would have totaled over $200 for our group. Because of that, we decided to eat elsewhere beforehand and came here mostly for drinks or dessert; only a few people in our group ordered food. While the dishes looked beautiful and high quality, the portions were quite small for the price and felt too specific for my personal taste. I understand the concept of quality over quantity and the blending of flavors perfectly meshing together, but this menu just was not our group's vibe. There were also only a handful of very specific entree options to choose from. They do have a six-course meal option for $110 a person or a nine-course meal option for $160 a person, with wine pairings being optional for $60 more a person, but I was not about to spend $200 for dinner, nor did I want to sample every meal option they had available. I ended up just ordering the sorbet, and it was delicious. When we arrived, we were seated in a private area near the front window at a long table, which was nice in theory, but the space was extremely hot. It was uncomfortable enough that several of us commented on it throughout the night. Our waitress was professional, although it felt a bit awkward since most of us were not ordering full meals. I can understand how that may not have been ideal for a large group from a service standpoint because she was probably expecting a huge bill and, consequently, a huge tip from our party. Overall, I am sure the food is excellent for those who enjoy a more refined and curated dining experience. It just was not the right fit for our group or for me personally, and I would not choose to return on my own. I hope everyone who chooses to come here loves the food and enjoys the experience.

Not only was he making amazing drinks, but he was also doing his best to convince us to ditch our dinner reservations and stay honestly, he almost had us The drinks were so good we ended up coming back later that night for dessert... because clearly we weren't done yet.
