I had a horrible experience with Lyons Marble & Granite several years back but decided to hire them this year only because they're conveniently located in Santa Cruz. I'll never make this mistake again! Similar to their first project with me, this second project is a disaster! They do not keep to their schedule of return phone calls or appointments. I wasted many hours trying to contact both Stacy and their office manager (Jerry Lyon's wife) by phone and email to no avail. I finally discovered that if I phoned Jerry Lyons or 'cc'ed Jerry Lyons on my email messages to Stacy and their office manager, the likelihood of them replying to me improved. The horizontal side seams on the edges of my granite counters were very noticable because the top and bottom granite pieces did not match at all! It looked like a horrible amateurish patch job! (My contractor friend looked at these seams and said "this poor quality workmanship should never have left their shop!") The office manager, Jerry Lyon's wife, creates the invoices. Her invoices contained mathematical errors that I had to point out to her. And twice she conveniently forgot to deduct a credit she promised us. Her friendliness cannot cover up for her lack of credibility. Avoid this business if you want quality workmanship, accountability, and responsive customer service. read more

The granite top for my bathroom vanity installed by Lyons is simply gorgeous ! Their big selection allowed me to find the perfect piece which was fabricated and installed to perfection. I went to Lyons once about 7 years ago and all went well so I went back. So far, I am regretting my decision. They scheduled an install the day before Thanksgiving. Just in the knick of time! And, you guessed it, they break the piece installing. Installer says they are going to go back and cut a new piece and come back. Owner says they will be there around 6:00. Calls at 6:30 and says they aren't going to make it. It's the night before a holiday, I get it. She said she would call back Friday morning to schedule a time for Saturday. No call, no answer to my emails. I'll keep you all posted but at this time I WOULD NOT recommend them. UPDATE - They came out the following Tuesday to install the counter and backsplash. It didn't go smoothly but by Friday it is all done. Again, would not recommend and will never go back to them. BTW - If you want to use a CC, they charge you 2% to do it! read more

The owner reached out to us and set up a 3rd go around. This time, the install guys showed up, fixed the problem and our counters are beautiful. The owners were out due to some extenuating circumstances, but the issues is now fixed. read more

I chose Lyon's marble and granite mainly because they had the specific granite (Del Mare) that I wanted for my project. I read a mix of reviews on-line, but decided to go with them in hopes they would deliver a quality job on time. They exceeded my expectations on both counts. * Scope of work: Outdoor bar countertops. Approx. 85 sq. feet. * Material availability: Excellent. Stacey expedited my material when deemed necessary within 24 hours. * Communication: Patience was needed on several occasions, but I knew my job was not the only one they had in their work queue. Sometimes, Stacey would communicate with me via text messaging during off hours. This proved to be very helpful for me to be kept up to date with my project status. * Template process: Juan and Rudy showed up right on time and created the necessary templates quickly. They were very professional and took great pride in their work. * Template / slab review: Stacey shared photos with me showing the templates in place on their respective slab. I was able to make adjustments to ensure I was satisfied with the grain and coloration pattern prior to my approval. This demonstrated excellent customer satisfaction prior to cutting the slabs. * Workmanship: I could not be happier with the quality of workmanship that went into cutting, polishing and fitting the seam. I chose a chiseled edge finish to my countertops. I wanted a rugged and manly looking edge treatment. Lyon's delivered big time on this request. I have received numerous favorable comments from family and friends regarding the look of this edge treatment. It looks awesome! * Installation day: Juan and his crew arrived right on time as promised. They installed three heavy slabs on my bar. The seam was perfectly matched. I added a sink in the plan ahead of time with a faucet. Juan cut the holes on-site and paid close attention to detail when it came down to fitting the top-mounted sink just right. * Overall satisfaction: I am extremely pleased with the job performed by Lyon's marble and granite. I've gone in twice to get an estimate and I never hear back from them. First for my kitchen, this time for a rental. I fill out a lengthy questionnaire, which has all the required information so I don't understand the lack of follow-through. I even called and left a message and sent an email. I guess they don't need the business. Too bad for them because I would be a repeat customer. I ended up going to tile & marble outlet and they were able to set me up with a granite piece and a fabricator. read more

I don't understand this place. We went in, found some great granite and were very eager to do business. We filled out a long form and we were told that we would be contacted to set up an appointment. No call.... Not a peep. Several weeks later we called. The woman who answered said she thought she remembered us and that she need to call back within the hour. To this day, we have not heard a peep from them. They have a very strange business model. We will be going with someone who actually wants business. read more

We've left messages, dropped by (closed on a Wednesday at 2pm?), sent emails, and never got a call back. When my wife finally reached somebody today at 415p and explained that she's been trying to reach somebody to set an appointment, she was told by the gal who answered the phone, "well sorry, I can't really do that right now--we're closed." My wife replied, "well, OK, but you answered the phone--can we just book an appointment?" the woman grumbled and hemmed and hawed, so my wife told her never mind and hung up. Our kitchen remodel is fairly large and other quotes we've had are coming in around $5-6K worth of counter-tops needed. I guess Lyons is doing so well that they don't need our business. read more

I LOVED working with Lyons. They did an amazing job on the quartz countertops in my kitchen. The office staff were very friendly and the estimate came back very quickly. My phone calls were handled very professionally and my questions were answered promptly. Juan the installer had several great ideas to improve my design. I had a terrible experience and would not recommend Lyons. I only went with them because they carried the stone I was looking for but the combination of Stacy's lack of customer service, terrible installation, miscalculated fabrication measurements, and extremely visable seams and scratches, they left me extremely unhappy. The overhang between the two sides of the countertop were different widths. It was overall a total mess. Then to top it off, they would not try to fix the problems and finish the installation until I paid them in full. This is a family run business (which I typically support) but Stacy has no accountability nor is there anyone to escalate your concerns to. I left so many messages for Stacy is was ridiculous. I asked for a different installer (bad attitude) and they refused. So, if your looking for a company that stands for good quality, will make it right if they mess up, and provides good service, look elsewhere. read more

Don't do business with this company. While the guys cutting stone might do a fine job, the manager Stacey is not trustworthy. I hired this company to prepare a kitchen countertop for me. I went to their office and ask if they ever sold half slabs since my countertop was small. They said that they never sold half slabs and that I would need to purchase a full slab. So I thought about adding an island to my project to have a use for the other half of the slab. The sent me a quote which stated how much it would cost for the work and for One Full slab. Later I decided that I didn't really want the island, and they updated the quote and dropped the labor fees by $200, but the new quote still states One Full Slab. They told me that I would own the leftover pieces. After the work was done, and I was about to go get my leftover pieces, I was told that they only sold me 1/2 of the slab and that the other half was theirs. Now they will not return my phone calls.. even a call to the owner has not been returned. I think my only recourse at this point is to take them to small claims court to get the other half of slab that I paid for. The price I paid, compared with all other vendors is about (more actually) the price of a full slab and no other vendors will sell half slabs either. I feel like I was lied to and have been cheated out hundreds of dollars worth of stone. read more
