Lyon's just installed the countertops and backsplashes in our new kitchen, and did a great job. We loved the whole process, but three incidents stand out. First, when we started shopping for slabs in the San Jose and East Bay warehouses, they told us, "When you find what you want, tell the warehouse to hold the slabs for Lyon's Marble and we'll take care of the rest." When we got the bill for the slabs, the price showed a big discount from what the warehouse had told us. Nice! Second, after the cabinets were installed, Fernando came out to measure for the countertops. We discussed how we wanted each overhang and joint to appear, then built a template out of thin wood showing us the exact dimensions. The next day, at their location, he hung the templates on the slabs so we could choose exactly where each natural pattern of the quartzite would appear in the kitchen. Fernando showed us how he would cut the backsplashes to match up seamlessly with the countertop, so that it appeared like the stone was flowing up onto the wall. Finally, during installation, everything fit perfectly. They cut seven holes in the backsplashes for light switches and outlets, and everything lined up. And just as promised, the patterns in the stone flowed from the countertop up the backsplash. We are thrilled with the work they did, and happy to recommend this local family business. read more

I called Lyons Marble because they are a local company where I live. An estimator can in a short time and measured the counter tops that needed to be rehoned. They are absolute black granite. It has been over 2 weeks time and after phone calls and messages I never got a response. I couldn't reccomend because of lack of response. read more

while having beautiful stone work, the three man crew sent to measure and install the stone were like watching the three stooges. one countertop and one backsplash were miss measured and miss cut. the patch job was unsatisfactory. when they brought back the counter, they tore the gate latch halfway off which chipped the countertop. they left gaping holes in my wall, never came back to make the repairs they promised and then demanded the final payment (never paid). the job was definitely promised to take about three weeks and instead was never finished after three months. I brought in rough dimensions for kitchen counters and within a month, I had a new kitchen! They did a great job demoing my existing granite without causing too much damage to my walls and subtops. Templating was done the same day. One quick measure a week or so later for our newly installed sink, and then an install a week or two later. The crew was courteous, clean, and communicative. We only needed a hole drilled in an existing countertop to install an RO faucet. Plumbers weren't very receptive to drilling it. One company wanted to charge us several hundred dollars. We called Lyons and they sent a couple of guys who did it very neat, clean, and fast. They only charged $175. For reference, the drill bit alone costs $100, so we were thrilled to hire them for that price! read more

We hired Lyons to replace the counter in our kitchen this summer. Despite having measurements from the plumber, the installer put the kitchen sink faucet hole in the wrong location, which required us to accept as is or have an unsightly plug visible on the counter. Also we requested a 1 1/2 inch drop on the counter and received 1 1/8 inch, leaving exposed nail holes from the cabinetry visible. When we tried to complain, the owner Jerry said he would take care of it, but their current staff informed us they would have to charge us over $800 to fix their mistakes. We were really happy with the countertop we had installed by Lyons Marble. We had been trying to get a broken countertop replaced since fall. The first company we worked with could not find the right slab, and then one of the big name home improvement stores required us to drive to San Jose to choose the slab, and left a lot of the liability for the work on us as well as raising the price by $500 after we already paid (definitely canceled with them and got our $ back). We bought a French antique dresser to use as a bathroom cabinet. The top was marble and needed a hole drilled in it. They were excellent, super careful with our 150 year old piece. I must admit I am partly responsible for this bad review. I should have learned from my last experience with this place but I thought I would give them another try. Not one of my better decisions. I should preface that my husband is a general contractor and we own our own business. I went here last year to pick granite for our kitchen counters and island. He had everything templated and sketched I just had to pick granite. Easy right? Not so much. I met with the young woman in the trailer and we were going out to look at some slabs when her phone rang. She told me to go look around and she would be right there. I had enough time to look through everything and had my stone picked. She never showed up and when I went to the office she looked up from her cell phone with a startled look.....she forgot about me. I left and went to Watsonville (where they had excellent customer service). So now we need to do a small bathroom vanity. Lyons is much closer to our home so I thought I would try again. I went in with my template and sink. Just needed a remnant. The young woman was helping another customer look at stone and said she would be right with me. No problem. I saw the customer drive away a few minutes later so figured I would see her soon. NO. I again had my stone picked out. I waited over 15 minutes and went to the trailer. She was walking out the back way. Supposedly to the lot to help me. NO. I waited another 7-8 minutes when one of the fabricators noticed how long I had been waiting and he went to the office to tell them. I waited another 10 minutes and finally caught her in the trailer. She forgot about me again. Are you kidding? I did not have time to go all the way to Watsonville again so I paid for my stone gave her the template and sink and said I would be back same time next week to pick it up. She said no problem I went to pick it up. It wasn't done. Not even close. Not even started. No phone call no apology. Now I cannot get it for another week! Save yourself the headache and drive a little further to Medina's in Watsonville. I wish I had. read more

I had a horrible experience with Lyons Marble & Granite several years back but decided to hire them this year only because they're conveniently located in Santa Cruz. I'll never make this mistake again! Similar to their first project with me, this second project is a disaster! They do not keep to their schedule of return phone calls or appointments. I wasted many hours trying to contact both Stacy and their office manager (Jerry Lyon's wife) by phone and email to no avail. I finally discovered that if I phoned Jerry Lyons or 'cc'ed Jerry Lyons on my email messages to Stacy and their office manager, the likelihood of them replying to me improved. The horizontal side seams on the edges of my granite counters were very noticable because the top and bottom granite pieces did not match at all! It looked like a horrible amateurish patch job! (My contractor friend looked at these seams and said "this poor quality workmanship should never have left their shop!") The office manager, Jerry Lyon's wife, creates the invoices. Her invoices contained mathematical errors that I had to point out to her. And twice she conveniently forgot to deduct a credit she promised us. Her friendliness cannot cover up for her lack of credibility. Avoid this business if you want quality workmanship, accountability, and responsive customer service. read more
