Wonderful lil coffee shop in the hotel. They also have spa lunches, water, sodas, beach stuff. Super friendly staff, delicious mocha too! They have Almond and Oatmilk available, which is awesome for us non-dairy folks. As of 11/26/21 it opens at 6:30am.

First off, parking can be tricky but we were able to find street parking easily. As soon as we walked in, we felt peaceful. The ambiance was welcoming. They had a good outdoor patio with a view of the water body. I got the iced matcha pineapple latte. My colleagues got the regular cappuccino. Our drinks came out fairly quickly. The cappuccino had beautiful coffee art with a swan. My matcha tasted good. And more than anything it was colorful. The views from the patio were beautiful and we had a great time! This location is right in the center of so much Solana Beach activity offering plenty to do and see around this cafe that makes it an even better stop. This would have been an average San Diego coffee shop experience for me, except for the fact that I absolutely LOVED the cherry bomb! It's a cherry mocha and essentially a perfect drink for me. Back in 2019, Starbucks had a seasonal cherry mocha for Valentine's Day that I was obsessed with. Apparently I was the only one, because they haven't brought it back since. Cherry mochas are hard to come by, and I haven't really encountered another one. This one was delicious! The espresso was bold, the milk perfectly creamy, and the overall taste not too sweet (unlike Starbucks'). Wow!! I can already tell this will be a drink I daydream about. Unfortunately it was $7.50, which will prevent me from indulging very regularly. The rest of the menu is pricey too, with avocado toasts nearly reaching $20. (I may be a millennial, but I can certainly understand the negative stereotype when I see coffee shop prices like these.) Besides pricing, the other downside of this place is the limited seating. There were only 4 small outdoor tables, so unless you're with just one other person and you arrive before 10am, I'd suggest grabbing your coffee to go and taking a walk. My friend and I sat down, since there were open tables when we arrived. She enjoyed her iced honey cinnamon latte. If you love a cherry mocha or are looking for coffee in the design district, definitely come through!

Instead of treating customers with even basic courtesy, she was annoyed that anyone was there. A simple question was met with a nasty attitude, and the interaction left us feeling completely unwelcome. I saw her speak to other customers in the same manner, so it wasn't just us. Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't any better. It was poorly made, tasted burnt and bitter, and wasn't worth finishing. For a coffee shop, that's the one thing that should be done well. There are plenty of other local cafés where you'll be treated with respect and get a much better cup of coffee. Only draw is the bunnies, who I really hope Samantha treats with more care and kindness than she does her customers; I honestly am concerned for their wellbeing after experiencing how Samantha treats people.

We each got to order a pot of tea, so we decided to order 5 different ones to try out more flavors together. The ones we picked were: -Jasmine orange oolong - Coconut milk green tea - Earl grey lavender - Vanilla cream -Strawberry rose champagne oolong tea My top two favorites were the jasmine orange oolong and the coconut milk green tea. The only flavor that none of us enjoyed was the strawberry rose champagne oolong tea, so when it came time for refills, we switched it to the rouge provence. For the food, there were four finger sandwiches: chicken breast, smoked salmon, cucumbers, and chopped spinach. We all liked the chicken breast one the most, and felt like the cucumbers and chopped spinach could have been combined into one sandwich for a more balanced flavor. For sweets, there was the seasonal scone, fruit tart, macaron, and donut. I loved the scone with the butter and fruit preserves, as well as the fruit tart. The service was polite, but a bit slow and we waited a while before our food arrived. There was only one person who was serving the entire afternoon tea area, so it's understandable that there's a longer wait. All in all, I would definitely come back for another afternoon tea experience!

I wasn't familiar with all of the baked goods, and he took the time to walk me through the options and explain what everything was without making me feel rushed. That kind of customer service goes a long way. Between the fresh pastries, great atmosphere, and genuinely friendly staff, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back.
