I've been to Laderach several times and have always had an amazing experience. To start off with, the customer service is always friendly and knowledgeable. If you ask any of the workers, they will be able to tell you their personal favorite flavors. There are endless rows of beautifully displayed fresh chocolate slabs that are almost too pretty to eat. Some of my personal favorites are the milk chocolate with hazelnuts, nut trio milk and dark (hazelnuts, almonds, and pistachios with milk and dark chocolate), and their cherry-raspberry white-dark (seasonal flavor). They also often come out with new flavors like the Dubai chocolate or cornflakes with milk chocolate. The quality of the chocolate really stands out. Even though it's definitely on the pricier side, the quality makes it feel worth it for a special treat or gift. If you're a chocolate lover, Läderach is a must visit destination. It's one of those places where it's almost impossible to leave with just one flavor, and I'll definitely be back to try more flavors. read more

CHOCOLATE FROM SWITZERLAND (3.2 stars) Real talk, I didn't savor exquisite chocolates. Definitely better than Hershey but not better than Toblerone (in my opinion). The two pieces of chocolates I bought for $5 per piece had no wow-factor and nothing stood out but tasting about average-good chocolate. The chocolates here are very pricy and don't feel there was justification. MILK CHOCOLATE with hazelnuts, gianduja ($5) - This was good and liked it better than the other chocolate I bought, only because there was more chocolate flavor and I like texture in my chocolate bars such as hazelnuts. WHITE CARAMEL CHOCOLATE with almonds, granola, caramel ($5) - This reminded me of a Starbucks Caramel Machiatto and surprised it didn't blow my taste buds. Always love the chocolate, I would always go to the one back home. However, my chocolate here had a bad aftertaste especially after my experience with the staff. Was walking by and saw they had a new matcha bark (of course we want to try). We came in and weren't greeted then when we asked for a little sample the blonde girl was giving us a bit of a weird look. After a minute the head lady (i'm assuming) asked if we were looking for something, which is a normal thing to ask, but her tone and their body language made the whole situation uncomfortable. We just bought a sample bag because we didn't feel welcomed at all, usually we like to sample a variety of barks before purchasing a bundle. read more

So we were in this mall and came upon this chocolate store. It is a small place and I have never been here or heard of the brand. It was supposed to be really good so I decided to try some of their chocolates. We got a sampling of some of their chocolates. I forget how much per pound but it was a lot. I think we ended up with 8 pieces. We took them home and didn't eat them right away. When I did taste the chocolate it blew my mind. This is my go to nice chocolate shop. I've come for birthday gifts, Valentine's Day gifts, and just because gifts. I actually first discovered this from my brother in law while we were in Switzerland for family vacation. I love the free samples I get right when I walk in. I usually get the a la carte options by the cash register where you pick which chocolate bark flavor you want and what weight. Pro tip, you can just tell them a dollar amount. Today I ordered $15 of the milk chocolate hazelnut, my overall favorite. They can gift wrap the chocolate if you like. I did this for Valentine's Day and they gave me a special red bag and gift wrap. My wife loved it. Very good service. I love conversing with the attendant helping me and trying the different flavors. I am in LOVE with Läderach! This Swiss chocolate is so creamy and delicious...it is the real deal. I love the bars they have in the window, that you can purchase by weight. They have samples too! I also really enjoy the mousse chocolates too. They look like truffles, but have a deliciously creamy mousse inside. Plus, they are so cute and photo-worthy. The staff was so nice, welcoming and friendly. Their jovial and happy spirits were felt immediately upon entering. I was offered samples of various chocolates they sell. I came in for the Dubai chocolate they sell and after sampling ordered about $45 worth. It was so crispy and chocolaty with perfect portion of pistachio filling. I walked away spending just at $100 for a huge piece of Dubai chocolate and 9 other pieces of chocolates. My loved ones greatly enjoyed the selection, commenting on the smoothness, rich taste, and texture of each piece. Quality chocolates come with a price tag that's above a Mars bar. I didn't realize we had this location and went the day after I found out. I saw the adorable foxes for fall and I have to say that for $32, the basket with foxes, hedgehog, leaves, and "nuts" is a great deal. The quality of the chocolates was fantastic and they were even more detailed and beautiful than expected. Absolutely delighted with this purchase. I also bought a couple truffles my daughter chose and some of the Dubai bar for my husband and I. It was exceptionally crunchy, a bit salty and very satisfying. My daughter savored her truffles and said they were "soooo good!" We were offered samples promptly after walking in. The displays had sooo many wonderful things I didn't actually get a chance to take it all in. Definitely a new favorite for me. Oh my gosh..what a treat we had today! We bought dark chocolate pistachio bark aka FrischSchoggi and it was the perfect blend of bitter, sweet, and a little salty. We've had the dark chocolate truffles in the past and they are equally as yummy! We travel to Europe quite a bit and this has to be some of the best chocolate we've tasted. This swiss chocolaterie at the UTC mall is so dreamy! Already from the outside looks like you are at a very posh place in some European city instead of in chill San Diego. They have so many different varieties including the ubiquitous Dubai chocolate one. I enjoyed the free and generous in size samples and the warm welcome of the employees. We stopped here while shopping in Fashion Valley Mall. The customer service that we experienced was great. They have so many options to choose from to enjoy your Swiss Chocolate, you will be amazed. We chose from the 'bulk by the pound' special batches of chocolate creations: popcorn chocolate, the chocolate hazelnut bars, praline chocolate, apricot chocolate, and then a few of the hazelnut chocolate truffle pieces, and a couple more options. Our server was very kind and he gave us 2 samples to take with us; 2 truffles. Says that he was the store manager. I had not heard of this chocolate brand, so was anxious to check it out while at the Fashion VAlley mall. Despite being dressed like I was "cleaning out the garage", I was warmly greeted and twice offered a chocolate sample while perusing the prepackaged shelves. Purchased some pre-boxed chocolates to give as gifts. Has a very positive customer experience while in the store. Upon returning home, I researched Laderach and, as I have Swiss ancestry,was stoked that they are a Swiss company . Upon further reading, I was disappointed to learn that the owners and top management are involved in anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion activities. I agree with another reviewer- Customer Service is lacking in this business. I was here yesterday, July 21st, around 6pm with my son, who is currently on assignment in SE Asia. When we came, no one offered us any samples at all.. then, two Caucasian, blond women came & the lady at the counter, practically gave them soooo much samples, even when they were not asking for samples. I was ticked off, of course. Another person at the counter was helping my son. He purchased $200 worth of chocolates to take with him as gifts. I had to ask the guy helping my son to "pls give us the same samples that those two ladies are having?" I thought it was rude that when we came, none of the two people greeted us (I jst wonder if they look at people's physical appearance to warrant a greeting or not?). A Swiss chocolate shop? Count me in! I love a good truffle. Came in after seeing it when exiting Macy's and was glad I did! The lady at the front was offering samples and got to try a piece of the the dark chocolate bark with almonds. It was not too sweet and loaded with nuts. They had some pamphlets at the front explaining that they use quality cocao and are founded by master chocolatiers. I talked with the employee a bit and she explained that they don't make the chocolates in house and fly in items straight from Switzerland; they use fresh Swiss ingredients (like honey and milk). You can taste the difference and it isn't like a box of your regular holiday storefront chocolates! Probably why they cost a bit more, but the higher quality is worth it, especially if you don't want to eat an overly sugary piece of milk chocolate. We ended up buying a box of truffles and some layered mousse chocolates. I'd def come back. Came in by chance on a Sunday to feed my sweet tooth. Was greeted with a generous sample of FrischSchoggi in hazelnut milk which is basically chocolate bark but made with high quality Swiss chocolate and caramelized hazelnuts. Definitely delicious and I didn't realize you can sample all and any of their chocolates! Ended up buying the limited edition FrischSchoggi in Strawberry Dark (dark chocolate with freeze dried strawberries) and Espresso with white and milk chocolate with crystallized sugar pieces. The staff was super friendly and helpful even when Dubs Jr. took forever to pick out his chocolates :) They have beautifully packaged items ready for gift giving along with vegan options. This store replaced the Godiva, located next to Better Buzz on the main floor of Fashion Valley mall. The store is pretty small, so I only come here during non-busy hours. The store layout is pretty simple: assorted boxes and individual items along the back wall, additional and bagged items on the right, and checkout/custom boxes on the left. My husband and I usually come here for the assorted boxes, but recently got the 2022 advent calendar and a box of assorted pralines. The price ranges $$-$$$ since this is craft chocolate, so this might not be for you if you're budget conscious or not a huge chocolate person; this is definitely a treat to have every now and then since it is fairly pricey for chocolate. Their products are smooth and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. The packaging is always very nice and elegant. Customer service can vary. Sometimes we're greeted and the vibe feels welcoming, and other times were ignored and the vibe is sterile. Loved the chocolate but the lady that helped me had a very ugly attitude. I came in Monday morning 4/15 and I asked her what flavors of barks were on display since blinds or tint on windows made it hard to see from outside. She looked at me in disbelief like how dare I bother her with such a hideous question when clearly there they were out in open! I went ahead and made my selection and again she looked at me like I had the audacity to say I wanted to purchase a small piece. They do in fact sell it by the piece don't they? We actually went to the one in Costa Mesa South Coast Mall, we like it that you can sample first before you buy any. We bought only a little to try it because it's a bit pricey. I was surprised how good their chocolates are, we had some with nuts and strawberries and pralines. Their chocolate reminds me of the chocolate we were using when I was taking baking class in Napa. I will definitely coming back and next time I will get more because i was left hanging. read more

Heard a lot about this chocolatier from my gf's mom, who's favorite chocolate is from Läderach! I've heard so much about it ever since they opened up at Fashion Valley lol. A big sweet tooth guy myself, absolutely loved my first visit. I literally got to try every kind of delectable chocolate I wanted, even before making any purchase. Idk if their employee manual says "Indulge customers with free chocolate samples" but that does seem to work. The chocolate really does speak for itself! Many kinds of gift options are available. It really is high quality chocolate that you can taste. My favorite was the dark chocolate with orange, and of course that strawberry one with freeze-dried strawberries in it was something beyond amazing. If you're looking to get very high quality Swiss chocolate, this is the holy grail! We just got back from Switzerland on vacation and of all the many chocolate places we went to, Laderach was some of the best we've ever had. Their factory is just outside of Zurich, and they have stores across the country, and I was so sad to think I couldn't easily get more of it once I got back to the US. But I learned they have storefronts around the world, and they recently opened in Fashion Valley Mall! They make all their chocolate in Switzerland, and only use high quality and responsibly sourced cacao beans from farmers who they meet with regularly. All beans are laboratory tested for quality, and they are fully transparent about all sourcing and production. Their products and chocolate are also seasonal...any fruit or mix-ins that they use must be fresh, so what they carry changes depending on the time of year. Plus, they have a good selection of vegan products for those they prefer it. I also love that they are staunch advocates for human equality and diversity. FYI I'm not affiliated with them in any way...I say all this because I love their chocolate, their general principles, and I want them to stick around, so go check them out! They also give out pretty good sized samples without me having to ask, and have always been friendly so I'm not sure what those other 1 star reviews complaining about staff are talking about. read more
