I highly DO NOT Recommend M&M Eye Institute . [[HIGHLIGHT]]When calling the front desk, they berate you and will not assist you with what you are calling about[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I went to the Prescott clinic to have an eye exam, to see if my contacts and glasses needed to be changed with Dr. Sky on June 12th. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The clinic stated they would order contacts for me to try. Two weeks later I call back to find out the status of contact samples. There had been no follow up completed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Week and a half later I received call that I could pick up the lens to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went to pick the lens up and they were not what the provider and I discussed. Anna, the clerk argued with me denied that I was wrong.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I stated that I would take the lenses but I knew they would not work. Of course, I could not see anything through them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called back to the clinic ask to speak with the provider and advised that she was working at another clinic and would get the message to her. This did not happen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]10 days later (being today) I called a total of seven times. The front desk staff, Maria & Elana stated several things. 1. The provider was at a different clinic, 2. The message was given to the wrong provider. 3. The provider does not return calls. 3. The provider tried to call you at 1330. Billing issue not resolved. I did get the $900 refunded the same day I made my last review. Funny how I had been getting the run around since October but once my review was posted they called me by that afternoon. Credited back on my charge card in full for the glasses. New problem is getting the approximate $376 refund for the money I shouldn't have been billed for in the first place. I paid it before researching what it was for. Dumb. I got a military discount for the glasses. They decided I didn't qualify and wanted repayment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the phone number I used before given to me by Amber or Whitney. 602-508-4994. What a exceptionall experience.I was referred to M&M Eye Institute from another eye doctor in Prescott Valley. I am so grateful for the referral. The past year my eye sight has deteriorated substantially due to the medication Prednisone. M&M Eye Institute did several test and determined I needed to have a lens replaced. Yes I was a bit concerned because I am only in my early 50's. I am so glad I listened to the professional ps at M&M Eye Institute. Yesterday I had my first lens replaced and what a great experience. I walked in at 11:10 and walked out seeing much better by 12:30. I am amazed at how much better I am able to see and I even am not using my glasses only one day after the procedure. I would like to say a special thank you to the entire staff. I was treated with the utmost respect, compassion, professionalism and even a little humor. My surgical nurse and Pam the Anastasiqligist where beyond exceptional and My surgeon Dr. Author was superb. I am so excited to go back in a few weeks to have my second eye done. Don't be put off by the huge size of this business--it's almost as big as the Fry's supermarket next door and has so many rooms and cubicles that staff have to walk you to your destination. That said, I had an excellent experience for my cataract surgeries. They gave me three comprehensive exams--the third lasting more than 2.5 hours--but I figured that the more they knew about my eyes, the better the outcome. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All of the staff were courteous and professional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dr. Markham was very pleasant, and explained the upcoming surgeries and the possible outcomes and risks thoroughly. The surgeries were a breeze--~7 minutes for each, and kudos to the NP who administered sedatives and eye preparations. Each surgery was followed the next day by an O.D. exam to check progress. It's kind of a hot mess. No one seems to know what's going on. Poor communication between both patients and staff and between staff. You will be told one thing and then find out that person was mistaken; and more of your time will be waisted. The docs might be fine, but their billing practices are at very best questionable! My husband went in and they charged him a $50 copay which we do not have. I had to go in and unfortunately get a little cranky to have it taken off. Then they billed our Aetna emergency fund instead of our regular Aetna. The Aetna customer service rep said they do this to get paid quickly. AND IT COST ME $50 for them to do so. Just as I thought we had it corrected after months of back and forth we get a collection notice!!!! We paid it, but will never go back there or recommend them. Switched to Premier Eye Care! Do not go to M&M Eye Institute in Prescott Valley, AZ for eye issues. It is extremely hard to get a call back. There doesn't seem to be good communication between the front desk and the doctors. I called two days in a row with questions and requests; I was told I would get a call back but it never happened. It took a month to get a call back from the doctor to get important blood test results. I had to call four times in order to get a call back. My issues are still not resolved. I absolutely would not recommend M&M. They can't get a basic prescription right and they try to get away with double billing. They told me they didn't accept my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket. Then they billed my insurance company AND were paid by my insurance company. They weren't going to say anything until I tried to use my insurance and my insurance company told me that M&M had already used that benefit. They graciously agreed to refund my payment 9 MONTHS LATER!!! Total fraud. I'll never go back there again! read more

I liked the doctors and the care given. The problem was with billing. I have eye insurance and Medicare. I made my co-pay the day of my visit. Then, I got a bill in the mail for 250.00. I called to try and understand these charges but the billing person could not explain the charges and why they weren't paid by insurance. I agreed to pay because I have excellent credit. We made payment arrangements for a monthly charge spanning 5 months. No charges were late. The next thing I received was a collection notice from a collection agency. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called you and was told it was a mistake. Then I received another notice. I called your office and they didn't know why it was put in collections in the first place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]This is unacceptable and I will call a lawyer If my credit is compromised in ANY way. During my first visit to the M&M Eye Institute, I met with surgery counselor LaDonna who explained many things to me. One of those things was that I could opt (for an added $100) for the surgeon to include slow release drops into my eye on the day of surgery that would include: Ciprofloxacin and PredForte 1%, which would save me from administering 3 different prescription eyedrops post surgery. Well, I'm on a fixed income and said I did not want to spend extra money. LaDonna then offered to sell me a cataract kit that included 4 Lid Scrubs, a plastic eye shield (to be given on day of surgery), paper tape (5 yards), 4ml of Systane Ultra High Performing Dry Eye Relief and sunglasses for a total of $40. At first I said no, but like a fool I ended up purchasing this kit. It is way over-priced for what you get, and should have been included as part of the surgery. If you already have over-sized sunglasses, those will work. I didn't need the lid scrub, after all, because the surgeon had to cleanse my eyelid prior to the surgery as a matter of course. The paper tape can easily be substituted for with the medical tape most people routinely have in their home first aid kit. The bottle of Systane can easily be replaced with any comparable generic eye drop. I had surgery on 5-23-2023, I have yet to need to use these drops. I was told to be sure to bring the cataract kit with me on surgery day, however I forgot and told an intake medical aid so, but she said not to worry as it's not really needed, just make sure and use the sunglasses to shield your eyes as soon as possible. Shortly before the day of surgery, I had a meeting with the surgeon and I was blown away. Dr Mortensen lived up to what all my friends who had him for surgery said: He was a true professional and he had this warm and easy going manner that cemented for me that I would be in excellent hands. He also had his assistant order the one and only prescription I would need: Ketorolac 0.5%. I asked, is that the only prescription I will need? Dr Mortensen said, yes that is the only one. But my pre-surgery counselor LaDonna had said I would have to administer 3 different prescription medications to my eye post surgery if I opted not to go with the $100 slow release of 2 medications the doctor could administer the day of the surgery. Someone was not telling the truth, and I choose to believe the doctor since he had his training and a reputation to uphold. Included please find a photo of the list including 2 additional prescription eye drops La Donna told me I would have to take post-op IF I did not opt to pay the extra $100 for the slow release version of the eye drops the doctor would administer on surgery day. The short version: Her information and counsel did not coincide with Dr Mortensen's. I completely trust Dr Mortensen over a "surgery counselor". I believe she was trying to upsell me for something that was not necessary. So disappointing. Dr Mortensen, his anesthesiologist, surgery nurse and the other medical professionals on my surgery team deserve and get a 5-star rating from me. Not so for the "surgery counselor". I will give my review a one star rating to draw attention to it. The one star is for the "surgery counselor". But a 5 star rating for the surgery team. read more

My first time and it'll be the last time. After checking in for my appointment, I waited for about 30 minutes before they called me only to take be to another sitting area where I waited about 15 minutes before taking me into an eye exam room. Fast forward to me making two prescription eye glass purchases. I was told that due to Covid 19, what normally would take two weeks to receive the glasses from the lab would now take three weeks. I said I could live with that. Well, at four weeks, I called to check on the status of my order. I was told one pair was in the office but the second pair may take another week or longer. I felt this was too long so I asked what my options were. I was told I could get a refund on the second pair which was approximately $500. I requested the refund which would be credited to my credit card. After two weeks and seeing no credit to my credit card I called to see what the status was. I was told it could take up to four weeks for it to show on my credit card. Well......after four weeks, still no credit to my card. I finally contacted my credit card issuer and disputed the original charge. I was patient but this was WAY TOO LONG to wait for glasses and WAY TOO LONG for a refund. read more

After waiting to see Dr Stephen Mortenson for months on arrival, which I was 15 minutes late because of the pouring rain and getting loss. The girl on the front desk told me she would check to see if he could still see me. After planing my whole day , driving for one hour and waiting to see this doctor for consultation for cataract surgery which he previously told me I needed. I was told that he could not see me and that I be better off seeing this other doctor in his practice because of his busy schedule . This explains on my previous visit they had booked me with a different doctor , though I made the appointment with Dr. Mortenson. Wow if this is how he treats his existing patients , I would not want to deal with this practice in any shape or form which is owned by him. I guess since they have more than enough patients they can treat people like revolving cattle and can pick and choose which insurance carriers pay the most ! Never again. read more

They told me they would be contacting me to schedule surgery. After not hearing back from them I called a few times to get status. Could not get a human on the phone, left messages with no call back. Finally someone called me on Dec 8th. Pre-Op appointment was scheduled for Jan 5th in their Prescott office. I was told at that appointment that they could not schedule the surgery as Prescott Valley could not find my chart and without doctor's orders they could not schedule. Well, here we are again. If you have any kind of unusual medical problem, or like myself, a very rare genetic disorder, do not step foot in this place. I was initially referred to M&M and specifically to Dr. Mortenson by both the local ER department and my original optometrist due to what turned out to be a posterior vitreous detachment. However I got another doctor and had to fight like hell to see Dr. Mortenson. Turned out both physicians were a BIG mistake in the end as was the entire Institute. It is hard to even list all that is wrong with this place. First, no real effort was ever made to fully understand the extreme special needs that would be necessary for any surgeries on my eyes to take place and for me to actually benefit from them. (I have cataracts also.) It was put in writing on my last treatment summary that patient was "more than pushy about us not knowing her condition and or what it would take for the cataract surgery to take. She is not very trusting with any one to do anything with her "condition"... with "condition" in quotes, and we all know what that means. First of all, it took 2 appointments to even get the doctor to read any of the information I painstaking copied for reference, and when he saw me again, he did not even know who I was. In addition to that, at the last appointment the doctor called out a 3+ cataract grade for my left eye but the treatment summary reads a 2+. No way that cataract was/is a 2+ grade as it was a 3-4 + grade reading the appointment before and that treatment summary reflects it. That is another problem with this Institute. The staff is totally incompetent. The left hand never knows what the right hand is doing. In addition, this Institute and the doctor was given a card with the phone number of my specialist for my genetic disorder, and she was never called to even ask about it or me. So much for my not being very trusting. What was and is "pushy" is, besides never REALLY trying to understand the special accommodations surgery of any kind would be necessary for my severe genetic disorder, all both doctors ever tried to do was push immediate cataract surgery on me. Who would ever trust a physician who makes snap judgements about a person with a genetic disease he's never heard of before but never makes an effort to get in touch with the specialist involved?! After that last increasingly disappointing appointment, I made an appointment with my specialist and gave her a copy of the summary report comments. Suffice it to say I will not be returning to M&M Eye Institute and I would not recommend the place to anyone else. read more

Got my cataracts done about a year and a half ago. Got the best lenses money could buy. Still can't see great out of left one, still fuzzy. Now the right eye is full of floaters. Now I completely understand from the doctor why my right eye is full of floaters, and what we could do for it. I still don't know why the left I never worked. Now the doctors have me wearing readers. I'm just really confused and very curious why I spent all that money to get those lenses and I'm now wearing glasses again. Any ideas. I would give a 4 star rating to my eye doctor ... but the 1 star rating is for the practice! Since they sold out to American Vision (or Southwestern Eye Center - there are so many names on all the paperwork that I don't really know who they are a part of now) the customer service, especially the billing department, has gone downhill. I'm trying to get a small refund for service from 2021 and I've talked to billing 10/26/22, 1/12/23 and 2/2/23. You know they'd be charging me interest if I owed them money since 2021, but they just will NOT send me the refund. As much as I like Dr. Stahl I may have to look for another eye doctor in Prescott, if there are any that aren't affiliated with big corporations. read more
