Stopped by for an impromptu blowout earlier this week because I just wasn't in the mood to wash my hair (treat yo'self and all). I always prefer the quality of blowouts I get at a salon vs a dry bar type of situation, and M, Studio is near my office and had a little availability for day-of. Bonus: the blowout was very reasonably priced at $45 for a classic blowout. M. Studio is an Aveda salon tucked into the cute strip of the Shops at Porter East. It's shockingly spacious inside and incredibly dreamy: calming, plant-filled, lots of cozy seating, and knew I was in for a treat. A girl greeted me immediately and asked for my preference of water, coffee, or the special blend of tea only available at Aveda. I opted for the tea. The Aveda tea is very herby and not for everyone but I loved it, and it came for me adorned on a tray with a Dove chocolate - this spot is about all of the small special touches. Sarah sat me down and we walked through what I wanted in my blowout, noting my hair concerns, how the weather would affect the style, and what products I liked. I'm a hair product nerd and very familiar with Aveda products and Sarah is one of the few stylists I've had to truly understands how to use products tuned to hair type and style wanted, and I appreciated that she sought my advice for everything. Next up: a relaxing head massage, double cleanse shampoo and condition. While I sat, she also added in a little complimentary aromatherapy, hand massage, and weighted eye mask. The towel she wrapped around my neck after was nice and toasty warm; the whole experience was dreamy-levels of relaxing. We chatted throughout the actual blowout and though I'm not normally super chatty, Sarah was such a delight. They offer the option of a silent appointment, and I appreciate how explicit they are about catering to all your small preferences.The girl at the desk came back when I was getting my blowout and offered complimentary snacks: mixed nuts, sun chips, etc. The blowout was exactly what I wanted: smooth but with a bit of bounce, and a style that lasted me through a kind of drizzly night without requiring much upkeep. The next day, I spritzed with a little dry shampoo and was good to go for a second day of the style. I'm on day 3 now and just really impressed with how well the blowout has lasted for me. This hair studio is such a hidden gem for anyone looking for attentive, kind service, really relaxing vibes, and just a small treat to yourself in a hectic week. I can't say enough good things about this studio! After my stylist of ten years decided to step back from doing hair, I needed to find a new stylist and location that I enjoyed. Well, I found it! The space is calming, the stylists are friendly but not overly chatty and everything feels authentic. The space is airy and bright and both the stylists and the clientele (in the two times I have been there) have been friendly, authentic and genuine. As for my hair, Maria gave me a great cut, and I came back for color later. The salon wanted me to be completely thrilled with my services so I booked the wondrous color expert Kyilah. I found this place with pure chance, but I love it so much. Literally cannot give enough kudos to this salon -- and Rachel in particular! Please take a gander at my before photos, bleeding red, orange, warm.... Which is the exact opposite of what I had asked for with my previous salon. It is unfortunate as I'd been seeming my last gal for about 1.5 years, but this color is unforgivable. Especially as this was my third time giving grace on things. After my last appointment, I couldn't even look in the mirror. I immediately got home and started searching for a new hair home. Found M Hair and then stalked (sorry) the stylists. I chose this salon because it was local and had been recommended to me by several friends (who also have fantastic hair!). I had been commuting back to Indy for 4 years (who can leave a stylist), but my Indy stylist left for California. I was nervous going to a new salon and Mandi eased by nerves by listening to my needs and preferences. She followed up with me twice after my visit to make sure I was satisfied. I went here for the first time the other day and had a fantastic experience! My stylist, Sam, was kind, professional, and a lovely conversationalist and did a great job on my hair. They also are being extremely serious about COVID-19, which I appreciate -- I was asked to fill out a questionnaire ahead of time asserting that I was not at risk of having the virus, I was required to wear a mask, my temperature was taken when I entered the store, and I was made to wash my hands when I entered. Sam was also wearing a mask and sanitized her station before I arrived and after I left, and there were only four people total in the salon: myself, Sam, and one other client and her stylist, both of whom also wore masks and were stationed at the opposite end of the salon. Not exactly your friendly neighborhood salon... I was charged $185 for no service whatsoever. I made a last-minute appointment for highlights, and when I showed up at the salon, I was told that they would not be able to accommodate me because I can't safely wear a face mask (they are still enforcing a mask policy). I told them I was disappointed but understood, and I left - only to receive a charge for $185 on my bank statement, since they had classified me as a "no-show" who hadn't canceled more than 24 hours before the appointment. I was shocked and called the salon to discuss. When I spoke with the owner, she refused to remove the charge. Needless to say, I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future! read more

I have seen Kristi worked pop up recently through couple friends of mines and when it was time to get a new color in right before fall, I knew I wanted to check her out. The moment I walk into the studio I fell in love with the place already! I knew I was in good hands right off the bat. I wanted to do some type of balayage style with my hair with purple ombré. Yes, purple. I was doing something a little extreme for myself but I knew I was able to trust Kristi to get the work done and how I want it done. I was there exactly 4 hours getting the results I wanted. The whole time Kristi was so patience and made time flew by so fast. I definitely felt relax and time flew without me noticing that a couple hours went by. It was a process to go from dark dark brown hair to the most amazing purple color you can get. The shop was in a super cute part of town with a ton of great little shops. I made an appointment and they were very flexible with me. They specialize in curly hair and so I was really eager to see what they could do with mine. My stylist was kind and lovely. She washed, cut and styled my hair after taking the time to really get to know me and what I do with my hair. Heather was incredible. I was in nashville for a wedding, and was miles away from who usually does my hair. I've only gotten my hair specifically styled or had an updo, a handful of times. My experience with heather was unlike any other experience I've had for this type of service. It didn't seem like a job to her. She had a spark in her eyes, of a vision of what she wanted to see. I used to go see Hannah, who was great with curly hair. Unfortunately, she's since left. I had one terrible experience here and it had to do with management. I was pregnant for the first time and had gotten the worst tension headache in my life, throwing up, couldn't stand, out of nowhere. I had to cancel last minute because the idea of keeping upright was impossible. At this point I had been going there for over a year. The owner, charged me the full amount of the haircut appointment. Hannah even asked the owner if it could be waived given my loyalty, but the owner still charged me in full despite me never cancelling last minute before. ZERO COMPASSION. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. I even asked the owner why she was doing this given my track record and she never replied to my e-mail. Hannah made up for it personally to me, but the business itself just zero response. I've followed Amanda from salon to salon, across the city, because I'm always so thrilled with her work. Her consultation before coloring/cutting helps me understand how the hair in a photo I show her will look on me, and she never just does just whatever I request. I had a disastrous experience at another salon a few weeks before my wedding -- I showed the colorist a photo that she, as the expert, should have steered me away from, and instead, I went from blonde to black. In tears, I reached out to Amanda. Not only did she make room for me the next day, she was able to get my color to a beautiful, natural ombre that I'm so pleased was captured in my wedding photos, without one comment about my mistake. I'll forever be grateful for her grace and expertise. She also styled my hair for the wedding, coming to my home the morning-of, and I get so many compliments on my hair in the photos. I book appointments in advance, so outside of the above emergency, I haven't scheduled last-minute appointments. However, I've been in the salon when others stop by or call to make day-of appointments, and they've been accommodated. This is the most calming, skilled salon I've been to. Amanda has shaped my long layers; chopped off 8 inches; colored my hair red, blonde and ombre; waxed my eyebrows; massaged my neck during the wash; and kept me feeling positive and proud. Mandi knows how to do some hair! I came in with a head that looked like a bird had nested in it, and she was able to tame my weave! I was skeptical, b/c I was so accustomed to getting my hair done from a friend who now lives in NYC and we were still in Chicago. Having just moved to Nashville from DC, I'd been putting off finding a new stylist. I desperately needed a trim and my eyebrows done, and I didn't want to make an awful mistake and pick the wrong stylist. However, after reading reviews for this salon online, I decided to take the plunge. I called and scheduled an appointment with Destini (I was really thrilled after reading the rave reviews about her!). When I got to the shop, I was impressed - it's small, but quaint - it has everything going for it, and fantastically friendly and talented employees. Destini took care of my eyebrows for me, and I mentioned I'd like to schedule a trim for the future (now that I'd tested the waters)! She had about 45 minutes between myself and her next client, though, and offered to take care of it then. We chatted a bit, and she really made me feel at home (we even discussed different braid styles). As a guy, there aren't a lot of recommendations for places to get a haircut; most guys tend to go wherever is close and cheap.
