I had my appt. with Michael this Tuesday for what I thought was gonna be a simple hair color and blow out! Upon meeting Michael and him analyzing my hair and what I wanted done, he let me know that although it was possible, it would not give me the exact results I wanted. I really appreciated his honesty and the fact that he did everything he could to get me as close to the color I wanted! And he did!! The color is beautiful and looks natural! Fantastic hidden (literally) little gem :) It's located inside Lux Studios (thanks to the other yelper who pointed that out) and is conveniently accesible either by metro or driving (multiple parking garages within blocks of the salon). I found this place through yelp and got a groupon for a cut and highlights. Michael did a fabulous job and Mario is both very polite and funny. I love the highlights, they look super natural, and I was happy to keep the length to my hair that I like (I've actually cried after some bad experiences with other stylists chopping off way more than I wanted in the past...which, for someone trying to grow their hair out longer, is pretty much a nightmare). Anyway, none of that here- Michael did precisely as I'd wanted, just a tiny trim. Yay! Even if the location is a bit far from where I live, I'll continue to make the trip up here. I've found my go-to salon :) The only "bad" part in the whole experience was my own fault- I forgot to bring cash to leave a tip. I heard about M Studio from a friend of mine who highly recommends it so I figured I would give it a shot. I scheduled an appointment with Carol for a trim. I'm very particular about my hair and like it a certain way. I explained how I wanted everything and she totally understood. I needed all of my dead ends off and my layers brought back in. I went in with dead and limp hair and left with it looking a lot healthier and just what I needed and wanted. Carol didn't do anything I wasn't comfortable with and explained how things would look with my curls and recommended some great products to use. Highly recommend M Studio. read more

My first time visiting M studios was amazing. I had booked an appointment with Carol, just a simple trim, blow out and style and I'm pleased to say she is very good at what she does. Not only was she professional, she was very conversational as well. Right away she made me feel comfortable and in control of what was being done to my hair. Every once and a while she would even check to see if I was okay, which was new for me as I've never once had a stylist be so concerned with my comfort level. Michael is awesome. I was in town and needed some highlights as I grew out my hair from a pixie cut. Knowing I never wanted to cut it short again, I was nervous that whoever I went to would fry my hair or give me silly highlights. When I arrived, Michael listened to my tale of woe and was very respectful of my needs, didn't try to talk me into something I didn't want. I don't trust anyone when it comes to my hair especially with color. I went to M Studio and I was seen by Carol. She changed the color of my hair to exactly what I was hoping for. When it was all done, I fell in love after the blow dry and curls because my hair looked more full and I could not stop looking in the mirror at my hair. Overall everything was so great. I've been to M Studio three times now and have had three excellent experiences. After moving here from NYC recently, I was unable to get a decent haircut here in Montgomery County and found myself going back to NY. Rediculous! I finally found M Studio through the reviews on Yelp. Carol is great. She understands what I want, a simple angle in the front. I do not like my hair flat ironed. Why is that so hard to understand. I also get my hair colored, single process. I just got my first Keratin treatment there too. I am very happy with the service and their prices are much less expensive than what I'm used to paying in NY, an added bonus. I highly recommend M Studio!!!! read more

I found M Studio and Carol G. through Yelp, and you Yelpers were so right about how talented she is. I am a 50+ woman with colored/short hair who likes to keep it hip but professional. However, I'm not someone who comes to the salon with an exact idea of what I want (or even close to exact!). Carol always seems to find a way to keep it fresh and I consistently get compliments with every cut, color, etc. My college-aged daughter also had an appointment with Carol for the first time a few months ago, and she really liked the results (and if you have a daughter of about this age, you know they don't always come home happy after a visit to the salon). read more

Before I write this review I want to say the staff was very pleasant and friendly. I can't remember the girl who cut my hair name was but she was very young, sweet and pleasant to talk too but seemed a little inexperienced. I was satisfied with the partial highlights I received which I never had a problem with before. Giving that I probably had the worst haircut I have had in 25 years there. I had very long thin hair that took a while to grow out. I needed a good trim so I asked her to cut a inch off. What I got was 3 inches cut off and the most awful chop. My hair was not even close to being even. I had a long chunk of hair that was 2 inches longer than the rest of the cut. I now hope my hair will grow for the weddings I will be in this summer which is hard for my hair to do. I went to another salon to help straighten the cut I recently received. I feel far from having confident pretty hair. Looks like I will continue to go to my hair salon in NJ. read more

Liz is an amazing colorist. I don't know how many stylists I have gone to for covering roots and doing highlights and coming home with all the shades of orange and brass that you can imagine! Liz was able to set the perfect tone of neutral dark blonde without any brass in it and beautiful, natural highlights. She listens carefully and knows what she's doing. Fun, relaxed atmosphere in the salon makes you feel comfortable and at home (unlike many other places). read more

When I arrived at the salon, which is spotlessly clean, I was warmly greeted by both Michael and Mario. Purchased a livingsocial coupon for a Keratin treatment. Booked the appointment, and made sure to inform the receptionist that 1) I was using the coupon and 2) I wanted Michael to do the work. She happily obliged. I showed up for the appointment and Michael said he would not/could not do the work himself when a coupon is used. But that he could have another person do it. I told him that his receptionist had been informed on both counts and had booked my appointment with him. He continued to argue that he could not/would not do a coupon job but that someone else could. I walked out, suggesting that he make this clear with his staff that he "cannot do coupon jobs" when the appointments are booked. Called livingsocial and had the coupon canceled. read more

It wasn't until I got home from my hair appointment with Michael that I realized how truly AWFUL my cut and color was. I went in for an ombre and a cut. My ombre is nothing over the top- a dark blonde/light brown that fades to a soft blonde. My roots had grown out and the blonde had turned slightly brassy over time. I've been going to the same girl for years in a different state and unfortunately am not able to go to her since I moved to DC. Touching up my ombre has never been a difficult or extensive task, so I can only think the level of skill and product at M-Studio is to blame for the result of my recent experience. I showed Michael photos of my hair previously as well as other examples. He seemed to know what he was doing- although he used a technique I have never seen before for the ombre. I am not sure if M-Studio uses a cheap brand of color but there were sections of my hair that looked like he had not even touched (the roots were still completely obvious). Not only that, but he added two highlighted sections at the very front of my face. First, they looked awful (they were not a soft blonde like I requested my ends to be, but instead a yellowish blonde), but in addition he didn't even go all the way to my roots with the highlight. The stark blonde started easily a quarter to half inch away from scalp. The color was awful. The base of the ombre was not at all what I requested (it really looked like he had not even touched it), the brassy-ness was still there (even though I paid for the toner), and the fade was COMPLETELY uneven. Over all, the cut was okay. I asked him to touch up my layers which he didn't touch but he didn't butcher the cut like he did the color so I'm thankful. Michael was a nice man. And maybe he is typically great but not at ombres. At the end of the day, I paid $210 (not including tip) for an ombre and a cut, which I did not receive. The only way I would ever return to M-Studio is to for a refund. read more

BEWARE THE KERATIN TREATMENT! MY HAIR WAS BURNED OFF AND RUINED! I purchased the Deal for the Keratin Treatment. I had it done twice prior at other salons with perfect results and was looking forward to it. I was already using the Keratin products. Well, after waiting a significantly long time, Michael's assistant called me back. He was working on a full-paying client who was getting highlights. The uncertified assistant ended up doing most of the treatment, including the hot ironing. Well, she put the hot iron on too high and BURNED MY HAIR OFF on the top of my head!!!!! It was the worst hair disaster I've ever had!!! Michael ended up accusing me of causing the incident, stating that I must've had products on my hair that caused it. Unbelievable!!! I ended up going to a high-end Bethesda salon, who knew exactly what had happened, and were shocked that an uncertified person was told to do the work. I spent a TON of money fixing my hair, which was once long, and had to be cut much shorter. Since then, I've had another Keratin treatment at another salon, and all was well. I would avoid this salon like the plague!!!!!! read more
