I've been going back and forth a lot between giving my experience at M Style Salon 3 or 4 stars. Typically my 4 star experiences manage to do great all around, they just may not blow me away which is why I settled with 3. As far as the pros go, I believe I received a good haircut. The stylist was very nice, listened to me, and cut my hair as requested. She knew I was nervous about cutting my hair, and based off of the fact that I have curly hair, she cut a little less than what I asked. This was very smart on her part. It shows that she understands curly hair and the fact that it's going to seem shorter once dry. She also spent a lot of time styling my hair. I had asked for it be ironed flat. Even though it's not as long anymore, she spent a great deal of time and effort to make sure it was perfectly straight. It also didn't cost me an arm and a leg to have my hair cut and styled. They charged me $35. Unfortunately, some things did occur which lowered my rating. Every salon I have ever been to has always commented on how thick and full my hair is (this salon included). Because of that, every person who has every shampooed my hair has washed it at least twice (I've never had to ask). It's what I do on a daily basis at my own home. I had also just come from the gym so I was quite surprised when the stylist rinsed my hair just once and in 5 minutes. I didn't feel the same clean hair feel I normally do. I didn't say anything. I can always wash it again at home, but the fact is I'm getting my hair styled here and I wanted it to last more than just the car ride home. While the stylist did spend a lot of time straightening my hair, my scalp felt burns 3 times from the flat iron. She apologized each time but it just felt odd and uncomfortable when it kept happening. Overall the work was good, but the experience could stand to be improved. read more

Mary is excellent and hair cuts. DO NOT ALLOW HER TO BALAYAGE YOUR HAIR USING FOILS. This is NOT how this technique is done. It was supposed to be a single blend and natural. I look like a damn hooker with foils. No discount was offered and she knew she messed up. I will never go back and this will probably cost me 300$ to fix. Super disappointed. If she has just admitted she didn't know the technique I wanted I would have continued to see her for cuts and gotten my color needs elsewhere. I am a big striped mess two days before my birthday. I am in tears. BALAYAGE DOES NOT USE FOILS!!!!! ITS A HAND PAINTED TECHNIQUE DO BIT GET FOOLED. As soon as I saw foil I should have walked out. Again. Mary gave an amazing haircut, and most importantly - focused on my needs! She was very sweet, but down to earth, and made me feel at ease as soon as I came in. Got a wash - shampoo/conditioner, smells great! I have longer hair, damaged from years of highlights and just wanted to freshen up my layers. Based on experiences with other hairdressers, I assumed my cut would be 5 minutes. But Mary took the time to access the damage, and cut my layers in a way that gave my fine hair unprecedented volume and life! She spent a good 25 minutes just looking for the right parts to cut. She was very focused on my needs and I never felt rushed. She also styled my hair with curlers and a mini blowout and gave me tips on how to achieve the volume I want on my limited schedule. First time here. The salon is in the same vicinity of sallys beauty supply and dollar store. Appointments are flexible. I made an appointment with kim. Kim is friendly and easy to talk to. She knew exactly what I wanted. Her skills are quick and efficient. I usually go to pricier salons to get a haircut and end up with a $50 haircut that's decent but not great. Esp if you have asian hair you know what im sayin! The the cut I had here was even better than what I have expected for half the cost. This is a cash only place :) read more

I feel the need to update since I gave this place 5 stars earlier. To be fair, I did not get Michelle this time. I was walk-in both time but this time it was later in the day, an hour before closing time as I was getting off work. I had an older lady. She was super nice but the skill wasn't there. I came in for something different, 3 inc. shorter. All I got was a straight cut. Straight! She charged me 30$ and I tip $10. $40 was very expensive for just a straight cut with no layer or bang. I should have gone to some other place for the $12 haircut instead. Even my co-workers said "$30 for that?" Yup. Sum up how I feel my entire week. And do ask for pricing as it varies depends on how much they like you. I believe the sign says something like women's haircut is $25+? Something similar to that. A teenage next to me was very friendly and energetic and chat up with her stylist in Vietnamese and she has butt-length hair and got shampooed, cut, blow dry. As she was checking out and went to her car for cash, the owner asked how much stylist wanna charge her. She said $10. The owner said "are you sure?" She said yes because she's a student. Wow. I'd been here several times before and had an okay experience, it was always just for a trim. All it takes is one bad haircut to ruin it all. First a really rough wash that left my face soaked, then a mediocre cut where I was never asked where my hair parted, followed by having my hair fried, I've now had the worst haircut of my life. I think the woman was new, and after my experience I wouldn't believe she was licensed if she showed me one. And the whole time she was rough, I could hair being pulled out of my scalp. I usually deal fine with the language barrier, but it really seemed like she just nodded along and didn't understand much of anything I said. I now have about half the hair I did walking in and it smells burnt. Never going back, ever. I regret being such a meek person and not speaking up. read more

I went to Mary a couple of weeks ago and it was my first time with her and that's always a scary thing when it comes to getting your haircut with someone new. But after reading her great reviews here I felt comfortable with going to her and I'm pleased to say that she was awesome even with her being crunched for time.
