    The chair
    Samantha A.

I'm a new customer coming from San Antonio. I've been looking for a "local" curly stylist (I've been to Denver, Atlanta, Dallas, everywhere!) and I have finally found my person, SARAH! Search OVER, DONE! I have a lot of length to my hair and I always walk out of salons with short hair, uneven hair, just unhappy. But SARAH...SARAH GIRL, she asked what I wanted before hand, initially before appointment she wanted hair washed, untangled, dry and no product. Got there and she looked at my texture and instantly knew she needed my hair to be washed and styled BEFORE cutting. I appreciate that! The wash was EVERYTHING, the steam was AMAZING! After wash it was to the chair for product, styling and drying. Sarah took a step back and assessed the situation, told me about the condition of my hair, where she recommended how short I cut it but also where I could get away with not cutting so much since I wanted to keep some length. I loved that she included me on the decision making and we came to a nice medium. My hair felt and looked amazing. She cut about the inches of curly hair and I was okay with that. There was a bomb playlist going, I woulda thought she was playing my Apple Music. The place is clean and super friendly staff. I'm so happy I finally found someone that I can trust to do my hair, surprisingly, I cannot wait for another cut!! Initial appointments are more expensive and 2 hours and that exactly how long it took.

If you're going here for a curly cut or silk press I would recommend it. But if you want a cut on your strait hair I wouldn't. I came here wanting a silk press and a cut I asked for layers and face framing pieces. I showed my stylist any the beginning of the appointment and when we finally got to the end where she was cutting my hair she trimmed my hair which it needed and gave me very minimal face framing pieces (I will include pictures of what I asked for vs given). She styled it as a side part which made it look to me like there may have been layers. (Because I don't know anything about hair). I got home and realized it wasn't what I asked for so I reached out to the stylist asking if I could come in and get it touched up. I was nervous because I know it can be annoying getting asked to fix something but She got me on her books for a week later which wasn't a problem I understand being busy plus days off.. When I did come we talked and in she seemed like she wanted to hurry up. She cut one side then spent longer and cut what seemed like more hair from the other side. Then at one point a coworker pasted by and they spoke about doing a wash after me and then my stylist had to go to the bathroom (the shops bathrooms were down so she had to go somewhere else) but she had that stylist take over so she took her to the back told her what she was doing and left the other stylist then spoke to me I showed her pictures and she started cutting. (Having a switch like this already made me uncomfortable) the other stylists cutting my hair then proceeds to tell me that the pictures I want have layers throughout the hair and that it was a big commitment and that I should start with just the front layers. The whole point was that I wanted layers throughout my hair but I agreed because I was like if they can do the face frame at least I'll have that. when my original stylist comes back from the bathroom she cuts a little more then shows me she grabs a hand mirror and then says while moving the front pieces "do you see the layers now" .. (which offended me). Once she said that I knew I wouldn't say anything else I barely looked at my hair because I had both stylist looking and that comment just was too much. I got in my car and noticed each side was a different ...luckily my boyfriends brother new someone who could fix it so I now have the layers I wanted and my hair is even. The whole experience of the cut was just not good. The wash and treatment and silk press was great I just wish if they couldn't do what I wanted they would have just said so rather than this whole ordeal. Turned my view of this salon negative. Unfortunately won't come back or recommend them.

It's refreshing to see such a well-curated selection, especially brands that are actually effective and highly regarded rather than just trendy. The store itself is a quaint little shop tucked away off Bellaire, easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but definitely worth seeking out. The employee I interacted with was friendly, approachable, and genuinely helpful (not pushy) just knowledgeable and willing to answer questions, which I really appreciate when shopping for skincare. Pricing felt average overall, with a few items leaning slightly higher depending on the product. That said, for the convenience of buying in person, knowing the products are authentic, and being able to get guidance if needed, it's absolutely worth it, especially when you're serious about taking care of your skin and not gambling with questionable online sellers. If you're into K-beauty or looking to upgrade your skincare routine with trusted brands, this is a spot you'll want to keep on your list. I'll definitely be back.

I find it similar to Daiso but with slightly higher prices and much more variety. This store is located at West on West (WoW) on Westheimer which holds several Asian-centric businesses like KBBQ, Japanese sushi, cake and bakery shops, and more. The store is quite large and the aisles are decent sized when it comes to comfortably shopping. You'll see lots of shoppers that come and go in groups whether they're family or friends, but all are very shop curious, as Teso has such a variety of items. It takes time to explore all the things but it is fun to discover unique items you likely won't find elsewhere. The aisles are very well stocked with sweet and savory snacks like cookies, crackers, chips, nuts, dried seafood, chocolates, candies, ice cream etc. They also have a huge wall of specialty drinks in the far back, where you'll also find things like 3D puzzles and toys that are not typical. There's also a row of claw arcade machines in the back so have your hand at the claw if you'd like. There's also a wide variety of beauty items that are Japanese heavy including face masks, mascara, fake lashes, hair dye, and lip sticks. Stationary that is cute and useful is also in abundance. Overall, it's a fun store to shop and stock up on some useful household items and some hard-to-find goods that are great for yourself or a gift to others.

I also purchased the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen that I've been hearing a lot of buzz about. Will see how good it is. These products are definitely cheaper if bought in Korea, but the face shop will do until my next trip out there. I was given a choice between two samples - acne or anti-aging. Kinda sucks that you only get 1 free sample after spending over $40+ in comparison to in Korea they give you lots and lots of samples. But I will return to this location for sure.

I liked the layout and how everything is labeled so if you are a beginner, you won't be overwhelmed or lost. K Beauty Lab Houston Review: Real Korean Skincare, No Passport Needed…read more It started as a Houston facial visit... but turned into the most legit Korean beauty experience I've had outside of Korea. Why I went I was in Houston for work, fighting off travel breakouts and desperately craving some skin sanity. When searching I kept seeing Instagram posts about K Beauty Lab--not some Pinterest-y "K-beauty inspired" spa, but an authentic Korean-owned, Korean-stocked, Korean-run sanctuary that actually understood skincare. As a medical aesthetician, I've seen a lot of gimmicks, but something about this place had me intrigued. So I booked a session, hopped in an Uber, and crossed my fingers. What actually happened From the outside, it doesn't scream "skincare heaven"--it's located in a strip mall next to a UPS Store. But the moment I stepped through the door, it was like entering a different dimension. Maria (I think that was her name?), who checked me in, welcomed me like I was a long-lost friend and Cherry got me started with a full 3D Korean skin scanner. This wasn't your typical spa gimmick--this thing broke down my skin in terrifying UV detail and literally showed where I'd missed sunscreen that day. (RIP my aesthetician pride.) Then, after analyzing everything, they handed me a full printed report and revealed I had "blooming diamond" skin--cue the happy tears. They built a completely customized facial treatment just for me, using my results. Veronica (I think they was her name?), my esthetician, had trained in Korea I believe -- either way she knew her stuff. We did their signature facial, plus added in K-beauty booster shots, oxygen therapy, multiple masks, and even a gua-sha scalp massage that sent me into another plane of existence. At one point, I actually fell asleep, and I'm usually the person asking 400 questions about every ingredient. She explained every step--like why niacinamide and vitamin C shouldn't be mixed--and didn't push a single product. The entire experience was knowledgeable, gentle, and completely immersive. The Vibes Let's just say I walked out looking like I sleep 9 hours a night, drink chlorophyll water for fun, and have never heard of fried food. My skin was glowing, my breakouts were calm, and my soul felt... soothed. It reminded me of something I once said on @CassandraBankson yt: good skincare is about what's applied and how youre applying it. These people knew what they were doing--and they did it with heart. Mini Critique If I had to reach for a complaint, it'd be the distance--it's a bit far from central Houston, and if you're taking an Uber like I did, it's not a quick zip. Also, some of the treatments can stack up in price if you don't ask upfront, so just be mindful when booking. Logistics It's easy to find with plenty of free parking. They run on time (which deserves its own award), and while there's no WiFi or digital nomad energy here, that's kind of the point--you're here to disconnect. Don't expect a tech setup; expect tea, glowing skin, and a post-facial debrief that'll leave you feeling like a new human. Health & Safety The spa was spotless. Like, medical-grade clean. Tools were sanitized in front of me, the sheets were fresh, and even the air felt like it had been filtered through a eucalyptus diffuser in heaven. The bathrooms were clean, stocked, and had no weird smells. It was honestly one of the most hygienic spa environments I've been in. Verdict Would I go back? Without hesitation. I'd fly back to Houston just to lay on that bed again. If you're even thinking about booking--do it. Let them scan your face, heal your skin, and teach you something new. Already been? Tell me your skin type--did you also get "blooming diamond" or something else? And if you're curious how my skin turned out, catch the glow on ig @CassandraBankson.
