We were on a…read moreroad trip in a Class B RV (which is van-sized), and needed to travel from Port Townsend, WA to Coupeville, WA. In investigating our options on a mapping app, we found that we had two options -- to drive about 215 miles (4 hours, 45 minutes, plus toll) OR take a ferry (about 8 miles, 45 minutes plus wait time). With some apprehension about how it would work with our oversized and tall vehicle, we decided to take the ferry. We made a reservation online about two weeks before our planned trip, and many of the time slots for our preferred travel date were already taken but we were still able to get a slot at 9:30 am. The reservation "no show" fee was $10, charged only if the reservation is not used. We were pleased to find that there was a category to identify our vehicle as being "under 22' in length, and 7'6" to 13' tall." (There are also options to ride standby when vessel space is available). Washington State Ferries has loading down to a science. On our travel day, we were warmly greeted by the attendant at the entrance tollbooth. One senior (my husband) with vehicle under 22' was $15.30, while I was counted as an adult passenger for $4.10, for a total of $19.40 for two people and the RV. After paying, we were directed by staff to park in a specific lane (with other RVs) and allowed to disembark from our vehicle to grab a coffee or use the restrooms. The process of loading the ferry was highly organized. Every inch of space seemed to be used -- without unused space but also without there being vehicles that didn't fit. We were most impressed in seeing how easily an 18-wheeler semi also fit! After all of the vehicles were parked, the ferry left the dock and many passengers left their vehicles to move upstairs for the water views or to grab a snack. Disembarking in Coupeville was equally efficient. Overall, we had a great experience -- smooth sailing, efficient operations -- but also recognize that service disruptions may occur due to adverse weather conditions or emergency repairs. On this particular day, we were fortunate to have saved hundreds of miles and hours of driving, and nice smooth sailing. One small quibble. We found the WSF's website to be confusing for newcomers to ferry operations. .

Also, the guy standing on the curb near the entrance, who informed us of the cancellations, told us that there were no reservations available for any other crossings, even later in the evening. This proved to be completely false, as we booked a reservation five minutes afterward, and by mid afternoon, the winds had subsided enough that we were able to board and cross without any issue. Government incompetence at its finest!

Of particular note is the cafe guy; he is so pleasant and gracious, and really seems to like his job! Great way to get between Coupeville and Port Townsend. It lets you off downtown Port Townsend so easy to walk on and walk off for sight seeing. It lets you off other side of Coupeville from downtown, so you might want to drive on if going that direction to explore.

We took one of the first ferry's in the am, not as busy, but gets more busy as the day goes on. They have restrooms available pre-boarding, but also on the ferry too. Very pretty view; a little windy. Highly recommend reservations, but always an adventure to get on standby. You can walk-on, bike, motorcycles and campers/ RVs-semis too! About $23 for a standard car and 2 passengers. There is a galley with food for purchase, waiting area for a nice view, and just a relaxing trip that beats a 4-hour drive. Very smooth sailing. You can see lots of mountains.

If I could give ZERO stars, I would…read more When I called, the driver did not confirm my address so of course I watched him drive up to the wrong house, and started honking repeatedly instead of calling or coming to the door to ring the bell. So the neighbors were disturbed by the continuous honking in the early morning. Not only that, but when I called the main line to let them know that they were at the wrong house, the person who answered was not the driver and was EXTREMELY RUDE and hung up on me when I asked them to call their driver. He gave me the driver's number to do his job for him. Hello??? Why should I be doing your job? And to top it off, the driver was very late upon arrival and made excuses. He tried pointing out that a car on the highway being pulled over was his reason for being late but there was NO TRAFFIC on his side of the route. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU CAN HELP IT. Try and get a ride from someone that you know because this company does not deserve even a penny for their services.

Their drivers were professional and their vehicles were spotless, they even had little waters for us. Our tour group of almost 50 used them for motor coach service and we liked them so much we even booked a private day tour out to Mt. Rainier. My mother-in-law, has mobility issues, so the driver would pull as close as possible and even arranged wheelchair service for her when we arrived at Crystal Mountain! They had full knowledge of all the local Seattle neighborhoods, history and the flora and fauna. It was super interesting and the driver was friendly and so nice. One of the best parts was knowing that Quality Town Car can arrange our ground transportation around the world through their affiliate program. One phone call, email or website visit sets you up in style. Plus, it turns out it is a female veteran owned business! We had such an overall fantastic experience with QTC that we wanted to share it with our online friends and community.

Over the course of four days, I was given four completely different SUV price quotes, each time blamed on a "system" or "technical" error. The rates changed repeatedly with no clear explanation or accountability. If a company cannot consistently generate an accurate quote, it raises serious concerns about their ability to deliver service on the day of travel. This process was disorganized, frustrating, and a complete waste of time. I ultimately cancelled the reservation and would not trust this company for any future travel. I will be advising others to avoid them as well.

So this is a review of my experience here though we didn't stay there…read more It is a great historical example of a waterfront hotel built in the late 19th century during the building boom here when Port Townsend was competing with the whole west coast to be a terminus port for trade and economic boom. The railroad never came but the sailors did so this was the brothel, bar, and sailor trade on the waterfront where the respectable affluent families built their Victorian homes above. So glad that further economic boom didn't tear down this cool old buildings and so much of the structures of all kinds around town! We were having a local tourist day from our place across Admiralty inlet with our big dog. While walking the front street before we could notice a lovely older lady was welcoming us and our boy and very happy to see our pup. She was just so much a great ambassador of their business and very engaging that we all enjoyed the encounter. The front entrance decorated well and nice plants in boxes. She had so many dog friendly advice to give us without asking about Port Townsend in general and recommended local dining choices. Not asked for but in hindsight it reminded me of what you'd expect from your concierge at a nice hotel while on vacation. We really enjoyed chatting with her out at the entrance and makes me want to suggest that place for a fun stay. They have 7 rooms I guess that are dog friendly and If we "missed the boat back to Whidbey". Or something more planned, we would def consider staying at this former 19th century brothel turned hotel for sure! It reminds me of a smaller version of the same we stayed at once in San Francisco way up the hill that was not preserved so well. This whole town was designed and developed to compete with west coast 19th century seaports for trade and commerce and it shows. But i think that the thought that railroads would bring prosperity here has left us with survivors of this bygone era!! I'd recommend considering this a a great waterfront stay in this town as it's very convenient and worthwhile!

We parked in a nearby…read moreparking lot that was not posted next to the border patrol office and got raged on by the host the next morning because she said plenty of sites were available .We asked why the Full sign was up and she would not tell me other than it is up all the time opposite of motel 6 "we will leave the light on". I suspect that is so they could screen quality of the rigs or social status? Keep the riff raff I will search for answers and post any I can find. Thanks! I did use their bath room it was an emergency and a friendly person gave me the code. Looks like they had an area for nicer rigs and ghetto area for the less fortunate. I will look into this further and see if I can find answer to my suspicions . The sites appeared to be over used and too close together and lots of trash on the beach which we spent a few minutes picking up. Looks like we will stick to Fort Warden in the future it is nearby and has a lot more amenities there is also the fair grounds which are cheap to stay at. The only reason they survive here is its proximity walking to port townsend nothing else about this place is worthwhile.

Water in the showers (in the building) was either scalding hot - could cause severe burns - or freezing, without an in between. Noise levels in the evening were not monitored, and one RV spent an entire night blasting loud music, without consequence or pause. Cars/trucks/towing vehicles speed through the small pathways, without any care or regard for pedestrians, including younger children.

The Seattle airport had changed their sky cab service when they arrived. My mom is completely dependent on sky, cap and wheel chair service to travel and Allie went into the airport and got each of my mom's needs met so that she could safely travel. My mom's health was literally in her hands, and she came through trumps. Well worth the price.
