This place is 5/5 stars, hands down!! My local friend recommended it and I came right at 5p when they opened on a Wednesday. The place was still empty when I came and wow, they have tons of seating! I'm sure it gets crazy busy on weekends here. I really like the Alice in wonderland theme as a "speakeasy"/underground bar, it's super cute! I sat at the bar and as the only customer I was served very fast. They have every day happy hour from 5-7p and it includes 1/2 off all cocktails, a great deal!! I ordered the cocktail they said would be most floral (it was purple and had flower petals all over the side - just like I like my cocktails lol). I paid like $10? A very good deal indeed. I was too full to have more than one cocktail but I sat and caught up on messages from friends there and enjoyed the music/low light disco ball ambiance. Would absolutely rec a visit to this place to anyone visiting SD!

First time here. Celebrated bday. The place is spacious. Cute idea where sitting areas sectioning have a different feel to it. Feels Cozy, yet open concept. Booths are also available. It's like a secret garden Inside. We got there early so the place was pretty much to ourselves. Drinks were all yummy. Menu was limited Not much to highlight. Extensive wine list, full bar. By 10ish, dance floor was open, crowd rolled in. Music was upbeat. Place was pretty full. Our server was nice, Service- pretty standard. She check how we were doing few times. Enjoyed the illusionist, was entertaining and funny. Monday-Wednesday CLOSED. Thursday & Sunday 5:00pm to Late Friday-Saturday 5pm-1:30am *Food available till 9pm* ( pls re-verify hours of operation in case it's changed) Place is speakeasy ( turned club by 10ish) underground. Bathroom- it's outside behind the dbl doors. Parking - best to get dropped off. Street parking, valet also available.

such a fun and interesting place! Very alice and wonderland kind of vibe, came for the Cinco de Mayo SD bar crawl and grateful i discovered it through it

    Happy hour petite charcuterie

Such a fun underground place downtown! Entrance is down a nondescript flight of stairs into a whimsical bar and sitting area. We went on a Saturday to see Nick Ivory do some magic, and were not disappointed. I'll be returning for my bachelorette party in a few months

Took a little bit to be acknowledged but the bartender was so nice and welcoming once we finally were acknowledged.

This is such a fun bar! We enjoyed it so much we went back the next time we were in town. Cool ambiance, the details in the decor are awesome. I loved the drinks there, the presentation and taste were perfect and the service was great.

I attended their Galentine's event, and it was absolutely fantastic. The interior is lively and fun, with charming décor and cozy booths in the back for seating. The servers were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Plus, they had amazing drink specials. The event itself was well-organized and full of great activities. They offered complimentary Tito's-sponsored drinks, wine glass painting, wine and chocolate pairing, friendship bracelet making, and more. There was even a cute Instagram-worthy spot for photos, adding to the fun atmosphere. I've come here on the weekend, and it gets really crowded. Way too crowded for my liking, but if that's your scene, they have great DJs and a lively crowd.

I think if the bartenders served better drinks I woulda gave it a higher rating. But the ambiance of this place is a vibe ! They have photo booths and cute decor everywhere. It's a nice speakeasy underground. You'll see a sign with the name and a arrow pointing down and a security guard there checking for IDs I thought it was nice that it wasn't overly packed for a Friday night as some other things I was passing had huge lines. The decor inside is so cute there's a dance floor and seating area. The music was fun and a good mix of oldies EDM and just some classics everyone was singing and dancing. I think I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area again or recommend it to others. I ordered a tequila sunrise and it just tasted so awful. Also ordered a whiskey sour that was just nothing how we expected it to taste. I feel like the bartender we had didn't really care. Ordered two shots of tequila and it was just hot. The prices were also pretty up there compared to other spots. Maybe pregame before coming, or hopefully just lucky and have a bartender that cares.

Nice and classy place in the Gaslamp district! Located in the basement on the fifth street - it is a bit hard to spot! Going down the stairs into the basement it gives an impression of speak easy access during the prohibition era! It is a mix of wine bar and speak easy as focus is wine! During our visit there was also a burlesque show which was pretty good! Food choices are a few - caprese we shared was pretty good with addition of arugula a salad. Wine list is exhaustive - but the bottle of wine we ordered was unavailable so we settled for a different one. The only downside here is service. We waited 30 minutes from walking in till our wine arrived...

Great little wine bar in downtown San Diego was in San Diego for vacation with my friend and we stopped by one night for some wine. There was a dj and it was just a fun atmosphere

Great place to grab a glass of wine surrounded by great ambiance but steer clear of average mediocre food. Tip, the worst menu item ordered were the olives and nuts...stay clear!

I have been here in the past on a Saturday night is there still a DJ?

    Yes!

Do they allow dogs? Inside and outside?

After several glasses of wine are they still dogs? In all seriousness, California law prohibits non-service animals inside restaurants. If your dog doesn't drink wine they probably wouldn't enjoy it, anyway.

Where is the closest parking situation?

around the block on 6th ave

    Is there a dress code?

No but everyone was definitely dressed up for a night on the town.

I am planning to stop by with a bachelorette party of 12 - would we be able to go without doing a reservation or bottle service?

Yes a message Friday or Saturday night I would recommend a reservation. They do not have bottle service.

What type of music on Friday nights?

Burlesque and then a DJ who plays whatever his desired set list is for the night. Should follow them on Instagram; they usually announce the DJ and then you can check out their preferred style and genre.

Are 21 year olds that turn 21 at midnight allowed in? ex: birthday is 1/6 show up 1/5 @ midnight. would they be allowed in?

No, by law they cannot let you in until the 6th so you would have to wait until midnight to try to enter. Just had a friend have the same problem.

Is it 21 plus for a dinner reservation?

It's 21 and over for all admissions.

What type of music is typically played on Saturday nights?

DJ mix of 90s, 00s + modern Hip-Hop, and a little Popular EDM

Is there a cover charge on Saturdays?

    no

Is it wheelchair friendly? If there is no back way to get in through the stairs can I bring my wheelchair down the stairs? I'm planning to go their for paint nite and drinks around july.

You can go through the attached hotel! They have an elevator that can take you downstairs.

Is this a 21 and up only or can a 19 year old go too?

    21 and over only

    Is this place 21+ only?

    Yes.

    Are reservations required?

NO reservations are not required unless you are planning a large party or looking for bottle service Thursday-Saturday night in which case you can contact our events manager, Jessie@Syrahwineparlor.com

This time around, it was just the 3 of us, to chat over some wine and apps. Had their April featured Pinot, which was amazing (had 2 glasses). It's good to keep in mind that they only sell their flatbreads on certain days and unfortunately, they didn't serve it when we went. So, instead we had the crostinis, which is perfect if you want a little bit of everything, but not sure what to get. My friend got the chicken Caesar wrap, and it was a lot bigger than expected. Servers and bartenders were friendly and quick. Overall this is a great laid-back place for small or large groups.

First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.

So I turned around and stopped in. What I found was a quaint, tucked-away, almost inconspicuous spot delivering food and hospitality at a level that honestly borders on absurd for how unassuming it appears from the outside. The service was warm, polished, and intuitive without ever feeling pretentious. Hats off to both chefs, Christi and Mark for making me feel welcome. The wine pairings? Thoughtful, balanced, and exactly what you hope for from a restaurant that actually respects food. And then there's the burger. This thing reads like poetry: Ribeye and NY strip trim blend, cooked like a proper steak (medium rare, the only correct answer here), melted gouda, a soft house potato roll, all resting in a luxurious bordelaise sauce that would make a French chef nod in approval. Seriously. This is not a "burger joint burger." This is a chef-driven, butcher-minded expression of beef. Every bite tastes intentional. The bordelaise underneath ties the entire thing together with this deep, glossy richness that elevates it from comfort food into something bordering on fine dining.
