I've had the good fortune of receiving physical therapy from Therese Palad at the West Hills M3 Physical Therapy Center, and it's made a real difference. She helped me tremendously with my arthritis-related body pain, and her knowledge of sports medicine and physical therapy is genuinely impressive. My workouts with her were challenging but fun, and always varied -- never repetitive. The impact on my pain level, stamina, and overall physical shape has been significant. Therapists are GREAT. Billing and front desk has suddenly become awful for some reason. This is my second round of PT here, and the first time around everything was fantastic. This time, the office staff has changed and everything seems a bit chaotic. Unfortunately for me as the client, this translates to getting billed incorrectly, being told "you don't owe anything, we'll fix it" and then - yes, you guessed it - getting another bill for twice as much. I'm not made of money, but I don't want to get sent to collections, so I'm probably going to have to pay what I "owe" and cut my losses and move on. It's really too bad because the two therapists I've seen have been wonderful, but I simply cannot afford to pay bills that I do not owe. read more

This review is for the service I received in 2018. When I first contacted M3 physical therapy, the first question I asked the person who answered the phone is specifically, "Do you accept my insurance? I have paid 100% of my out-of-pocket limit for the year and I'm looking for a physical therapist who accepts my insurance so I don't have to pay anything else out of pocket." I gave her my group ID and subscriber ID number as well as the phone number on the back of my blue shield card. I remember talking to her because looking at the Yelp page and Blue Shield provider pages (which is where I found them), they stated they are not accepting any new patients and they don't accept credit card. I advised her to tell their office to update those sites because clearly, they are accepting new patients and allowing credit card payments. Someone later confirmed after checking my insurance information that yes, they do accept my insurance. It was only at that point where I made an appointment to come in for an evaluation and started physical therapy there.  At some point, I was required to give my Visa card to pay $40 per session co-insurance. I was okay with it considering the excellent level of care I was receiving from their office, specifically from Mariko Edwards, as well as the convenience factor of their office being located within a two-minute walk from my apartment. I remember receiving statements and asking the secretary if she is charging my card or if I need to pay the statements. She (Stephanie) said she is charging the card and to disregard the statements. There is clear proof of this conversation on an email thread. There were numerous times during the weeks that I received physical therapy there that certain people in their billing or claims office including Carrie called me to tell me that I actually DON'T have Blue Shield health insurance and that I am on Covered CA instead. Imagine that! This is despite the Blue Shield card that I carried in my wallet, knowing full-aware that I paid over $7,000 for my responsibility for the year for my out-of-pocket co-pay limit. This is also in addition to showing their secretary my Blue Shield Card on several occasions.  I eventually had to call Blue Shield on at least two separate occasions to tell them to fax proof of insurance to M3. At some point after this, M3 finally realized that they do not get reimbursed by Blue Shield "exclusive network" plans, and they told me that I would be 100% responsible because my insurance is not going to cover any billing. Immediately upon hearing this, I switched to another physical therapy provider who was able to charge my insurance in full and did not charge me anything out-of-pocket for 2018, as per my original intentions. I continue to see this physical therapist provider to this day (BSP Physical Therapy in Culver City, also with a lager office in Burbank, both rated 5 stars), and I intend on getting all my physical therapy from them in the future. Since then, M3 has been sending me past-due statements, acting like I owe them money because, for whatever reason, the original person who verified my insurance was incorrect. Additionally, their billing people, as mentioned above, were not able to properly identify that I am an actual Blue Shield member and my insurance plan is covered by the Exclusive Network, even though it was clearly printed on my card. Their secretary or whomever answered the phone the first day I called to verify my insurance information, failed to identify that they will not be compensated by Blue Shield because I'm an Exclusive Network member, and clearly this is their problem and not mine. They have demonstrated a lack of knowledge of insurance verification and billing. If their insurance verification people and secretary better understood how to do their jobs from the beginning, I would not be wasting time with this unjustified billing situation. Getting the right therapist here is key, and that therapist is Mari. My first appointment after shoulder surgery was with Chris, who said that I should set my expectations lower than I had (deadlift 200 lbs, get back into swimming). THEN he read my chart and found that the tissue he thought my surgeon removed was still intact. I switched to Mari and had an incredible experience. She's fun, knowledgeable, and talented. I just deadlifted 325lbs and I swim 1km 1-3 times a week. The overall experience has honestly made me want to get the other shoulder done. My primary care doctor sent me to him for a hip problem three years ago, and again last month for a problem with my foot/ankle. I have never experienced such bad service from a medical office. I found this place through my insurance website and I when I called to make an appointment they told me they do accept the type of insurance I have. The next available appointment was 3 weeks away so I booked it. The lady said she would have to verify with the insurance company and call me back in the next few days to tell me how much my copay was. Well it turns out they waited 3 weeks to do the verification and they called me the DAY BEFORE my appointment saying they actually don't accept my insurance and that the only way I could come to my appointment is if I paid 120$ out of pocket. I have never been big on going to the doctor. If I was in pain or sick and didn't think I was getting worse, I would just tough it out. When my shoulder started giving me pain, I thought I would just ride it out and wait for it to get better. So I stopped doing activity with the arm and waited. This part was hard, because I love a lot of overhand activities such as volleyball and surfing. Except instead of getting better, it just kept getting worse. When it finally got so bad that it hurt just to turn my steering wheel, I decided to see the doctor. After getting an MRI, it turns out that I had a torn labrum. The ortho told me that it's not something that heals on its own, and that I had a 50/50 chance of needing surgery. This is where M3 physical therapy comes in to the picture. Besides one-off visits for small things, I had never went through a physical therapy program before so I didn't know what to expect. My insurance recommended M3, so I called them and scheduled an appointment with the PT who had an opening that fit my schedule, which was Cindy Choi. When I was talking to my friend about my upcoming appointment, he told me to make sure that I find a good PT. He had done PT before for a similar injury, and he said that he went to two different PTs who didn't help much before finally finding one who was actually good. Given that I had never been through a PT program before, I asked him how I would know if the PT was good or not. He said, oh, you'll know. Some PT's will just show you an exercise and have you do it while they go do other things. But a good one will really watch you and make sure that you're doing the motions properly, correct your form, etc. After getting treatment from Cindy, I KNOW that she's good. Cindy was incredibly attentive every time I arrived, and was constantly giving me feedback and corrections on the exercises. Even later on in the program when I already knew the routines, she would still keep an eye on me and make sure that I was doing it properly and targeting the muscles I needed to target. Cindy is really sweet and caring, and you can tell that she's not just there doing her job, but she personally really cares for her patients. Like I said earlier, when I started I couldn't even lift my arm above shoulder length without pain. On my first visit, Cindy looked at my charts from the MRI and put me through a series of tests to diagnose my symptoms, She then charted out a program for me so that over the course of the 7 or 8 weeks I was being treated, I would progress. Each visit, she would look at my strength and mobility and give me new exercises to do depending on my progress. For all you self diagnosing webmd internet doctors like myself out there, this was CRITICAL to getting better. Prior to going to physical therapy, I had done a ton of internet self-research on my symptoms and the different exercises I could do at home, with the belief that all information is available online thus I could skip the going to doctor. But with all the research I did, I only saw what exercises are out there that could theoretically be done. Nothing that was tailored specifically to my own muscles and my own progress. To everyone thinking they don't need a PT (like I did for all of my life until now), go find a professional. I think a lot of my sports injuries I've had in my life would have healed a lot faster if I had went to a good PT like Cindy. Happy to say that after going through treatment, I went from struggling to open doors to being able to surf and play volleyball again. For anyone who is about to go through PT though, make sure you do your exercises at home. I was very good about doing all of the exercises that she told me to do. If your PT tells you to do exercises at home, do what they tell you. Don't show up twice a week and expect to get better without putting in some work. The other great thing about Cindy is that not only did I NOT dread going to every visit like I dread going to the doctor, I actually really enjoyed it. It wasn't so much that doing the exercises was super fun, but I actually found myself looking forward to the appointments because Cindy is easy to talk to and a great listener. Like even though it was technically physical therapy, it felt like regular therapy as well and I always left in good spirits feeling like my mental health was better as well as my physical health. All of the other staff at M3 were very friendly and helpful, and the facilities are great. It's not huge, but it has everything you need and there's never more than a few patients there at a time. There's validated parking in the garage which is on the bottom floor of the building, so no need to wander around any medical complex. read more

I can't say enough about the amazing treatment I got here from Chris Hisamune! He is a muscle whisperer. He uses a technique called "orthopedic massage", which requires specialized training that only some physical therapists are qualified to perform. This is what top athletes get. I've never experienced this at a PT place before but their billing tried to bill my insurance (and therefore me) for more than my contracted rate for physical therapy. My first appointment was very short and with Raul and very disappointing. He spent the bulk of it talking (I brought 2 separate MRI readings with me so it was clear what the issues were) and then hooked me up to the electronic pulse machine for 10 minutes. That was it. At all other PT places I have been to, the therapist works on me and doesn't only talk. I was very disappointed for this lack of treatment. Especially when I received their bill and called my insurance and learned they were actually coding their bills trying to get more than the contracted rate for PT. When I called their billing person and left a message asking them to correct this, nobody called me back. So I called again and said I would like to speak with someone prior to leaving a negative yelp review. Still no call back. The good news is my insurance investigated this on their end and confirmed today that I do not owe M3 more than my copay, as their contract says. So, if you do go here, be careful with their billing because they try to get more than what your insurance contracts. read more

I saw Raul Lona here and unfortunately I was very unimpressed. Although he's clearly very knowledgeable, he came across as condescending, judgmental, and unapproachable. Going to physical therapy puts you in a vulnerable position. The last thing you want is to be made to feel badly about yourself. It's too bad that his bedside manner isn't better as he's obviously very experienced in the field. I was referred to Chris Hisamune by my Orthopedist nearly 10 years ago, and I have been to him several times in that timeframe for separate issues with knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle (I know!!!). I was told by a friend to go to M3PT who had her knee replaced. Raul and his crew saved my knee! Not to say it wasn't painful but good healing pain! The best word I can think of to describe my experience at M3 Physical Therapy ("M3 PT") is "excellent." From the on start of my treatment, the supporting staff was always courteous, friendly and very efficient. Happily, waiting time to start my therapy was never more than a few minutes, a major plus for those with a busy work schedule. My therapist, Raul Lona, is a super star. My therapy sessions were never rushed and Raul took as much time as needed to thoroughly and clearly explaine the nature and purpose of my treatment. Most importantly for me, my care and treatment at M3 PT was a total success. Two and a half months after a total shoulder replacement, I had regained most of my range of motion with little or no discomfort. It was very obvious to me that Raul truly cared about my physical well being and by doing so, obtained an optimum result. I was a total wreck before being completely put together by Raul. First, my frozen shoulder left me without the ability to drive. After two months with Raul, I was able to lift as if nothing had happened. And then my discs and osteoporosis occured. Again, masterfully, Raul put me back together. I have been coming to Wilshire linden for about three months now. I had knee surgery in May and the other therapists were easing my pain but not helping me get better so I could gain my mobility ughuagain. When I was referred to Raol Lona I was impressed by his knowledge approachability and his kindness but he reminded me that if I don't work hard with him and at home, I might not get to a point where I could walk without a limp and my cane. And so the therapy began. In addition to heat and ice with a tense type unit, Raol would then come in and perform a type of acupressure massage. And then he instructed me in various modalities from Pilates, to bicycling, stepper, floor exercises, bands and more. he was really making me work. And has helped me immensely. Someone said he had no bedside manner. It probably was from someone who didn't want to work at getting better. His encouragement and serious nature merely reflects his true desire to work with people who want to get better and is willing to put forth the effort to do so.
