Worst mechanic experience I've ever had. The initial price seemed low, but the entire experience felt dishonest. I was repeatedly given questionable explanations that seemed designed to justify additional charges. I brought my car in for a transmission fluid change because another mechanic had already diagnosed that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced due to a warning light on my dashboard. After the service, the warning light was still on. Instead of checking whether the code had simply not been cleared, they immediately told me there must be another issue with the car and that I needed additional diagnostics. The explanation was vague and didn't make much sense, especially since it appeared that the code had not been cleared after the service. To make matters worse, they left my window open while working on the car. When I picked it up, the window would no longer close completely. This problem did not exist before I brought the car in. When I pointed it out, they dismissed it as "just an old car issue" and suggested I would need to pay more to have it fixed. If you don't want your car coming back with new problems and questionable explanations, I strongly recommend taking your vehicle somewhere else. read more

I had an issue where my car was leaking transmission fluid after a job at the dealership Thankfully Mr. In-Sik was able to let me come in to have him take a look. After about 5 minutes of looking he was able to let me know the mechanics from the dealer did not tighten the screw. He offered to do it and I was out after spending 10 or so minutes there. He was very honest and straightforward with me. As a family owned business I recommend this shop for any transmission related issues. He definitely gained a new customer. read more

This is an awesome, family run business. Nick and his dad were extremely helpful and accommodating. My car is 14 years old and has a lot of miles on it. They were very careful to explain that changing out the transmission fluid could possibly make the problems I was having get even worse. I opted to go ahead and try, figuring that I could have them do a rebuild for me if it didn't work. Fortunately, it DID work and my little junker car is running great again! I really appreciated the honesty and kindness these guys showed. Their shop is very small, and shares space with several other mechanics, so getting to them is a bit dicey, and you really should plan to leave your car because they don't have a waiting room. Tried calling a few times and even brought my car in for a diagnosis. When I went to ask what they were charging me for exactly, (cause it sounded way higher than it needed), they said to call somewhere else that's cheaper than. I'm just confused because I know I was very respectful throughout the chat, but I unfortunately ended up not using them because of the way they responded to that. They have "clutches" in their sign, but they were "afraid" of my truck because it was "too old" or it had a "wire-tie" on a hydraulic clutch line, something about the "slave cylinder didn't look right to them, --any excuse they could find NOT to do the job. This was a simple job to replace a disc, pressure plate and throw-out bearing and they couldn't do it! They are absolutely INCOMPETENT! This shop is absolutely horrible! Avoid at all costs. When I first arrived at the shop I was ignored completely for about 10 minutes. I only went to get some minor repairs that should have been between $200-300, they wanted nearly $500. I was in a hurry to get my car fixed before a work trip and hadn't been able to find anywhere that could get me in in the next week, plus MAAX was recommended by my mechanic, so I agreed, thinking that that insane price for a part that costs less than $100 and takes about 15 minutes to install was the worst thing that could happen. It wasn't. I went back to the shop the next day to pick up my car about 45 minutes before they were supposed to close, and they had closed early without bothering to let me know. I had missed one phone call from a blocked number much earlier in the day with no voicemail, and they texted me around the same time to let me know that my car was ready, but according to them that was the call to tell me they were closing. Why they didn't either leave a voicemail, send a text about the change to their hours, or try calling more than one time I have no idea. I had responded to their text to let them know I was on my way to pick up my car when I left my house, and they didn't respond to tell me they were closed until half an hour later when I had already walked to the shop. After berating me for not answering their single phone call from a blocked number, they agreed to come back to the shop and give me my car, claiming it would take 30-40 minutes. They showed up around an hour and twenty minutes later and once again lectured me about answering my phone. When I finally got my car back, they had only replaced one of the two parts we had discussed (but for the same price as both) and there were several new lights on on my dash which they didn't mention to me at all. I now have to cancel my work trip and pay another mechanic to do the second half of what I paid MAAX for plus fix whatever else they managed to break, which after Googling the new lights looks like it might cost me more than I make in a month. When I say that this is the worst experience I have ever had with a mechanic, they're beating out a loooooot of other scummy or just bad mechanics for that award. read more

OK... like Charlie Brown running up to the football, I believed and I believed... and for a THIRD STRAIGHT TIME, they broke the appointment. They had me wait in a nearby Subway and said they'd get to it eventually... I checked back in 40 minutes and still, nothing had been done. Finally, I got fed up. I had a check engine light with transmission-related issues code turned out it was a miscommunication in the transmission which he used his devices to clear it, checked the car thoroughly even on the freeway for any other problems. Other shops will tell you to replace or rebuild transmission and charge some insane money, trust me, I've read some horror stories online. He is all you need as your mechanic and you can rely on. So honest and extremely easy to talk to, he will spend time with you to talk to you about your car. Call before because his shop is very busy. Our 93 Caravan 3 spd (Ol' Red) finally wore out! The folks @ MAAX evaluated the situation including learning what our ideal goal(s) were regarding keeping or junking the vehicle and what that horizon looked like. Based on those discussions, we were presented with an estimate to rebuild that seemed reasonable (certainly much more reasonable than ordering a reman + installation) so, we went for it. Later on, we called the shop when advised to do so to see how the work was going. Turns out, we had way more damage to the casing than was expected ... so, it was highly recommended that major component needed to be replaced. Being one not to want to throw good parts after bad - we authorized this work. When it came time to settle up after the work was completed, these guys were going to honor the original quote(!) ... ie; without the cost of the casing - which was difficult for them to locate. I've not experienced this apparent care for the customer - like ever ... While this was an unprecedented gesture, we couldn't allow these guys to eat the whole cost for that and came up with a final bill that was agreeable. Ol' Red? She's never run better ... shifts good and solid - no slipping, clunking, or other nonsense. It seems as though these folks know transmissions. read more

You be the judge: I took my car to Eddie @ Maax since my description over the phone got a "Yeah, I know what's wrong with that." My last couple of mechanics just replaced engine sensors (at a bit of an expense) but the Check Engine light kept coming back on. Could not pass Smog Test. Finally got a ticket. With the ticket deadline looming, I went to Eddie on the word of a stranger. After reading codes, he said it could be one of two possibilities. "Let's fix one and see rather than doing both." I like a guy who's trying to be economical on repairs. Moving forward, we wound up fixing both items at a reasonable price. No sensors, no guessing. No BS. Bottom line, the car PASSED Smog test! He does his very best to try to get you the best price and goes out of his way to find parts, used or new, that best fit your budget. He gets it, we aren't made of money but a car's gots to run for the working man and woman. There's a reason why they have very loyal customers. I've been going to Maax for 6-7 years now. I've owned two Volvo wagons since then. He's replaced my transmission, axles, belts, brakes/rotors, fuel pump, water pump, and the list goes on. Never a complaint and if it needed some tweaking I'd bring it in and he'd get it done, sooner than later. Sometimes it would be busy but these guys hustle. They aren't afraid of working hard and they do it right. So 5 stars to these guys. A mechanic's trust is about as important as an accountant's so when you find a good one, you stay with them.
