Here I am updating my review again. All these years later. A new mechanic has determined that this shop did bad work. My waterpump was replaced, and despite the receipt showing it was an Audi part, it was actually a shi tty aftermarket part. Now I'm having to pay to replace it again with a genuine Audi part. Additionally, the alleged that they replaced the oil pan gasket and it either wasn't done correctly. Or they used the wrong type of sealant because that also needs to be replaced. I had a terrible experience at Rafi Autotech and would strongly advise others to be cautious before coming here. I went in for a simple brake and lamp inspection and ended up paying $300, which felt completely unreasonable for what should have been a straightforward service. On top of that, the staff were extremely rude and dismissive throughout the visit. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was the owner's behavior. Instead of acting professionally, he tried flirting with me, which was completely inappropriate and made the entire experience awkward and unprofessional. Between the overcharging, the poor customer service, and the uncomfortable interaction with the owner, this place felt very untrustworthy. There are plenty of automotive shops out there that treat customers with respect and charge fair prices. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. Brought my BMW in for an estimate as I was hearing some noises and feeling some vibration under the vehicle at startup. I had a nice convo with Rafi and then Carlos, they explained the diagnostic process and got right to work. The results and estimate were emailed to me and also very clearly explained, and Carlos broke down what he recommended be fixed now vs later (items that were not as important.) took my car in for a simple oil change and asked them to check a strange noise it was making. They told me they would inspect it and call me with an update. The next day, they called and said the issue was with the admission system and quoted me $1,700 to fix it. I agreed. Later, they called again saying there was additional buildup that needed to be cleaned, which increased the cost. They kept my car for an entire week. When I went to pick it up, I was told the total was now $2,400 due to the extra work. The worst part is that after all of this, they told me the real issue was actually the transmission. So after charging me thousands of dollars and keeping my car for a week, the original problem was never properly diagnosed or fixed. This feels extremely unprofessional and misleading. I would not recommend this shop. Be very careful and consider getting a second opinion before agreeing to any major repairs here. read more

Went there for a brake and light inspection. They didn't mention the cost for an additional inspection if you failed at the beginning. They didn't pass my inspection. Later I called them for a bargain, they got angry and dropped the call. Their neighbors did not recommend them for brake and light inspection. There must be a story. Add: I went to another one (venice/crenshaw) for a new brake and light inspection even it costs me more money as it's a new inspection, because I really have a bad feeling with Rafi (and it's not only me who feel being taken advantage of). It's true that Rafi charged me $100 for a re-inspection, but they didn't mention it at the beginning. In contrast, the new place they just print all the information on the wall clearly ($60 for re-inspection by the way). read more

Place is a scam. Dropped off car and they said $200 for a DMV inspection. I have a camera in the car and they spent 18min inspecting the car. Then when done they called to say it would be $250 not $200 for inspection, the mechanic gave me the wrong price. Well I never agreed to $250 but was forced to pay instead of them not charging me, which is the legal way to handle things. Then they charge me $50 for 1 license plate bulb and instal which takes 10min. I will be making a complaint to the better business bureau, and bureau of automotive repairs also, plus forwarding my video to the DMV. read more

I've been coming here for years bringing our Audi Q5 SUVs for regular maintenance. On my last visit, I brought the vehicle in for a four-wheel alignment. Rafi asked me why I thought I need an alignment, and I told him that I recently bought new tires and also had a small fender bender. He agreed that we should proceed with the alignment. In addition to providing the service on a Saturday morning, he also buffed out the mark on my wheel where I had the fender bender without even me asking or even charging anything additional. Honestly, if I could give them a 0 i would - i think him and his mechanicn Carlos are crooks - i had an issue with my brake fluid, i went and did a diagnostics and he told me it would cost about $400, i dropped it off and when i went to pick it up he gives me a bill for $3500. They had the most outrageous things that needed to be fixed, but then somehow they 'worked' with me on the bill and i ended up paying $2500. within a week of having my vehicle i started to smell something , so i called Raffi right away and let him know, he said okay bring it in. It took me a little bit of time to get it to him with the holidays, but when i took it in he gave me a bill for $1800 and i was confused bc 1. why that smell was never there before taking it in 2. I reached out asap when it happened, but he acted like i never called him. He is a CROOK and a FRAUD and honestly if i could do it over i would never take my car here and hope you dont either. to add one more thing the only reason i went there was bc my friend referred me and she had the same issues 0 out of 0 would not recommend read more

There are surprisingly few auto shops that can do HVAC repair. I had been to 2 other shops one didn't have the skill and the other (dealership) quoted 5k. I found Rafi on yelp! He was able to fix the system for less than half of what the dealership quoted (surprise right?) . But aside from the very reasonable cost, I was confident that they actually could do the repair. Rafi explained exactly what needed to be done. Took their time and used quality parts. The mechanic even cleaned out the engine area and left it looking like new. Had a car emergency with my 2013 Mini Cooper not starting late on a Friday night, and Rafi Autotech came to the rescue on Saturday morning! One of the few shops that is open on weekends, I emailed Friday night to see if Rafi could handle my specific car issue, and was shocked to receive a reply back that night confirming they could and that they had availability the next morning. Talk about excellent service! I went to sleep that night less anxious, knowing I had a plan for my car the next day. Now as many Mini owners know, our cars are a total pain in the butt to fix. I've had too many horror stories about shops trying to do repairs (one shop once diagnosed an ongoing issue was due to a specific car part...turns out I didn't even have that part!) and having no idea what to do but charging me all the while. After this experience, I resigned myself to only taking my car to the Mini dealership. That worked until the Santa Monica dealership closed, so I needed to find a new shop to rely on. Enter Rafi Autotech, I brought in my car around 10am Saturday morning and they were able to replace my battery and complete all other necessary services in just an hour, amazing! This place is easy to find: Sepulveda just south of Venice after the gas station. If you get to the 405, you went too far. I called Tuesday morning asking if they had any availability, and I was able to drop off my car in less than an hour. The service was great and they made sure to communicate with me every step of the way. On top of fixing every problem I was aware of, they even helped with replacing some of my lights that I didn't know were broken! I literally had my car held hostage at Rafi's Autotech until I got my insurance and the CA BAR involved. Before my story gets written off as too crazy to be true, please read the other one star reviews, they share some scary similarities to my experience. I waited over a year to write this review for reasons that will become clear later. Here is a quick bullet point version: Car brought in for a diagnostic which ended up costing $600+ and now the engine needs to be replaced. Similar to other reviews for this shop. Engines seem to need replacement after being brought into Rafi's but it's still plausible in my situation. Shop refuses to work with my insurance after agreeing to. I'm stuck making non-stop phone calls and emails daily between the shop, my insurance agent, my insurance estimator, my insurance agent's manager almost daily for two months. Not knowing when I'll have my car back. Shop finally agrees to a solution with insurance. After services are completed, my insurance company and I are sent two different invoices for the same services. My invoice contains increased prices for services they later tried to charge me for. I'm in possession of both invoices to prove this. Shop owner openly admits to completing services on my car that neither I nor the insurance company agreed to. We were never even made aware of these services. The shop owner decides to try and charge me an additional $3k on top of my insurance deductible to get my car back. I get my insurance and the CA BAR involved to get my car back at the agreed upon price. Stuck making repairs related to the engine swap myself because of course, I can't bring my car back ever again. If you have experienced something similar to this with Rafi's Autotech please reach out to the CA Bureau of Automotive Repair so we may continue to build a case against this shop.
