My regular mechanic replaced a sensor and was at a loss for what the problem might be with my car passing the smog test. I started asking friends for recommendations and I was referred to Larsen from another good mechanic who doesn't work on Mini Coopers for the problem I was having passing a smog test. I made an appointment and they did a diagnostic for $185 and then ran it on a machine that reset the sensor. My service advisor, Lilly was very knowledgeable and experienced explaining that only smog test places have this kind of machine. My check engine light went on after that and they drove it on the street for a few miles to reset that sensor. All told they only charged me for the diagnostic and 1 hour of time. After going to my regular mechanic for 10 years it is great to have an alternative, especially with expert smog knowledge. read more

my lexus had troubles. i brought it to ???? and got a repair evaluation that was suspicious. i brot the car to larsen. they spent about 3 weeks trying to find the problem and upon finding the problem (a computer) tried to but it from lexus. since my car is a 1997, lexus told larsen they should get into a time machine to buy the part. ha ha lexus, you dicks. somehow larsen found the part, fixed the problem and returned the car. i waited about 1 month before writing this because i wanted to see if all the repair work worked. bad karma to praise too early. but, happy happy to say all is good. yes, i will return yes, they did a very very good job yes, what they charged me was reasonable patronize them. read more

Had been searching for a used car, this place was recommended to me for a pre-purchase inspection by multiple friends who have their cars serviced here. I spoke with Don who confirmed they offer this service, the pricing is similar to other recommended facilities, was told to expect to leave my car for half a day for this. Don also took the time to answer some questions, offered his opinion and some advice on the makes/models at which I was looking. I ended up getting a car in Oxnard; the dealer called me later to inform me that they did not have the car smogged, needed to get that done to file the registration at the DMV. The dealer offered to send a mechanic's helper to take my car somewhere. I asked them to contact Larsen's to see if they could do it, and I would take it in. The dealer called me back, said Larsen's could get me in immediately, I was to ask for Don. I did so, there was a short wait. They do not really have a waiting room, just a couple of chairs, suggested Starbucks across the street; I opted for the chairs. The car passed smog check. Don also provided a recommendation for someone to put in a back-up camera. read more

Check in with Don who was working the front desk. My boyfriend came with to explain what he thought was the problem, the motor mounts. Don said he'd give a call later that day. Lilly sent a long list of issues non having to do with the motor mounts, so we thought this wasn't the issue after all. When speaking to Lilly we went over what seriously need attention and what could wait. We can replace the windshield wipers and a new battery ourself. She repeated the prices several times and which problems we wanted fixed. Lilly repeated back what we agreed upon, but rudely said I've given you the price a few times and her frustration was beginning to show, not ok. They kept the car overnight, no problem. Next day again no call from Don, I called again around 2:30. The car I'm told was out on a test drive , well call when ready. We went to get the car and Lilly was explaining there was a problem with the motor mounts and we should come back at another time and have it fixed for 1500.00 She said they only discovered the issue when on test drive when this was exactly the issue brought to Dons attention ,it was even written up that way as to WHY we came in plus oil change. When we got home we popped the hood and discovered the belt issue changed. Called and got Lilly, she said she made a mistake and wasn't clear on what we wanted. What?? Really? We went over this multiple times and she was very clear. We asked about the Motor Mounts and her answer was I'll have Don call you back, that was 3 days ago. Leaky oil pan but they had already changed oil so didn't fix this issue. Lilly said bring back at next oil change. Never going back. The bill came to 800.00. read more

I took my car in after already obtaining a diagnostic test from Autozone, then to an experienced/certified auto mechanic, who unfortunately doesn't work on Hyundai, but diagnosed the problem and told me what needed to be done. He referred me to Larsen. When I got there I was told by Nick (sweet as pie at this point) that I would need another more specific diagnostic test and that it would be $200. I wasn't aware that there is a more specific kind of test that could be performed but I agreed. Then I got a text with the estimate for $1,900 and decided to wait since it wasn't a critical issue. The intake runners are stuck and the whole thing needs to be replaced since cleaning it involves more time than replacing it and would cost nearly the same. When I went back to pick up my car I asked for the diagnostic repost. Nick (who was now the most unfriendly person you ever met) said "Why?" (In the most condescending way possible). I said because I wanted to see what the "more detailed" diagnostic test showed that the other one didn't. He said it's right there, pointing at the print out of the estimate on the counter. I looked at it and there was no information regarding a test and no information about what was wrong with my car. It was an estimate, that's all. I asked again, in the nicest way, even though he was clearly pissed about losing his commission from this deal. I had just paid $200 for it after all. I shouldn't have had to ask for a copy of the diagnostic. He was so rude. Finally he said he would get it for me. I walked a few steps out the door, waited for 10 minutes then walked back in. Nick asked if I got his text. What?! He couldn't tell me that he was going to text me with the report? It was just weird and he was such a jerk about it. Then I look at the report and lo and behold, it was exactly the same report with the exact same codes I got from Autozone for free!! Save yourself the grief and go somewhere else. read more

Dropped off the same car for the biannual smog check today since they were the only smog repair geniuses that understood the failed sensor problem and repaired it correctly previously to pass the inspection! Even the dealer last time couldn't get it right (after spending days and (wasted?) bucks!). About 900 years ago I met a kid who had an unusual amount of brains. He was the child version of MacGyver though not nearly as handsome, heck he hadn't even started shaving. He used to dare us to lay a finger across the terminals of a 6 volt battery then taste our finger while staying connected to the terminals (kids don't try this at home!) The metallic taste caused the girls to grimace in disgust while the boys laughed and continued the stupid trick. I've always had a love/hate relationship with batteries because they're handy when they work and gawd awful when they fail at the most inopportune moments. Like when my guy was taking a friend to her 50th birthday dinner last week - and the "Battery Not Charging" light illuminates on the dash with a light so bright red light districts are jealous. But imagine how lucky you are when the battery issue occurs just minutes from the auto shop? Suh-weet! Our friend takes her car to Nico and loves his service so she called and let him know the issue. Nico was waiting for our arrival and was happy to assist - he fixed the issue (ended up needing to replace the alternator) within a couple hours and my guy was on his way. Swift, super friendly service and easy to find. Larsen's isn't in our neighborhood but if/when the time comes for service, I wouldn't hesitate to seek Nico's professional service. read more

I'm sure this shop does quality work, but I only went in for a diagnostic, which cost $180. I do wish they had provided a clearer breakdown of the fee upfront, (I was just sent a text message stating how much the fee was) especially since it doesn't go toward any future repairs--that part felt a bit unusual to me, as most auto shops I've been to typically apply the diagnostic fee toward the service. Just something to be aware of. Also, I prefer more definitive explanations when it comes to what's wrong with my car, and I felt the diagnosis I received lacked clarity and confidence in whether the recommended repairs would actually resolve the issue. They were rude on phone and when I showed up person monday morning the person at the counter snarked ....oh yea btw. ....you need a new engine..wait..how did they know that??? then new mechanic I took it to, the honest mechanic, did a physical 2min inspection and found that the oil change co did not replace oil the evening before. On multiple occasions I've come in expecting to pay for an expensive repair only to have them reset a warning light or other simple fix at no charge. If you have to go to any Mechanic in the LA area GO HERE! I have been taking my car here for two years now and I have never received better and more reasonable care for my car. Every time I take it in they get back to me in a timely manner and are so so so informative! They send me a link with the issues of my car listed from "non urgent" to "recommended service" AND include pictures and descriptions. As a girl who's always scared of getting scammed for a lack of knowledge on cars THIS MEANS THE WORLD TO ME.
