So accommodating and thoughtful! I brought my 16 year old dog here because she really needed a cut. They used a special shampoo that I brought per my request and listened to all the concerns I had. Love Mabel's! I've been very ill for months, unable to get Calvin and Hershey to the groomer and my boys looked just dreadful from lack of grooming. I keep them in full coats and they need a professional trim and blowdry to keep their "Fabio-ness". So, I called Mabel to see what we could do. I opted for the mobile dog grooming service and my experience mimics the other one-star reviews. Raul was late, distracted and couldn't follow the simple request not to shave my dog. When I brought this up with the owner I got the same rude treatment described in all the other bad reviews. I should have used Yelp to find one of the many other/better dog grooming companies. My family has been using Mabel's dog grooming services for 20 years. We used their mobile service for our two medium-sized dogs and they always came back looking and smelling delicious with the cutest bows. We moved away about 5 years ago and our first two pups passed away. We recently moved back to the area with a new Maltese puppy, so we brought him to Mabel's for his first grooming. Mabel and Maria remembered us after all of these years! They take great care of Freddie who apparently never gives them any trouble although he is a complete spaz at home. They even helped me literally chase him down the street when he ran towards Sepulveda Blvd one day when I picked him up (completely my fault). I know some people like Mabel's Dog Grooming. I just must have had a freak experience with them but they weren't nice about it! Sadly, my dog went in smelling ok, but after the wash smelled so bad we had to take him to another place to have him re-washed the next day. Poor dog had to spend the night in the kitchen. It was that bad. Of course I noticed right away when the groomer brought the dog back inside and I was shocked by the bad smell. groomer claimed the dog must have encountered a skunk, although the dog didn't smell bad before the wash. The mobile van was only 6 feet from my garage door, (and I've never seen a skunk up here) so such a skunk encounter in those 6 feet between door and van was next to impossible. Besides the groomer walked the dog in and he would have smelled himself and didn't. But he insisted my dog got sprayed by a skunk, but it just wasn't so. Altho' the smell was that awful, I know grooming somehow had created it. I can only surmise that they 'expressed' the dog and then must have washed him in that hormonal excrement mix somehow or got it on the dog hair-- as it was the worst smell ever and strong. The groomer refused to hone up to it and kept saying the dog must have run into a skunk. Later when I talked to the owner, she was rude and ended up hanging up on me. It was a very unpleasant and expensive experience. read more

I've never had any problems with this business, but I can only comment on the brick and mortar store on Sepulveda as I've never used the mobile service. Yes, I am usually greeted by a woman whose native language obviously is Spanish, but that's never caused me to feel like she was being rude or "was the maid/cleaner". (Seriously, yo? That comment from another reviewer was kinda whack.) Everyone there has actually always been very friendly to me. It's pretty plain and simple: I call a day or two ahead of time to make sure they have the bandwidth to groom my dog. Then I show up, drop her off, sign in with my phone number, and they call me 2-3 hours later when she's done. $55 cash covers the cut, claws, glands, etc. I think I've also got a "buy 10 get 1 free" card. Granted, my dog's pretty easy. She's a 16 lb. shih-tzu mix with straight, fine hair. I like to ask for a 5/8" cut with the ears and face hair on the shorter side. If your dog is huge, hates being groomed, and/or is matted by the time you go in for a grooming, I could see how you might have issues. read more

I've been going to Mable's for a couple years. Mable is so sweet with my fur baby, Dolce. She recognized Dolce was terrified of the fan when drying and made sure she is always comfortable. I tried two other groomers prior to finding Mable. at other groomers Dolce was terrified when we got near the door and whimpered when I picked her up. When I arrive at Mable's Dolce is excited to go in and happy when I pick her up. She always looks beautiful and it puts a pep in her step. Thank you Mable and staff, you are wonderful!!! read more

UNPROFESSIONAL FLAKES!!! I made an appointment with them and they called me back 15 minutes later saying they missed part of it because they took another call right after me. Turns out, they missed everything--date and time of the appt, my name, phone and address. Was she expecting to memorize the info? But whatever, I REmade the appointment. Then they called me a day later to confirm and had the wrong time again and had to double check the date. Color me unsurprised when the appointment date and time (10:30am) rolls around and they are nowhere in sight. I got home 10 min before the scheduled time and there was a note saying they "missed" me for my appointment which they had down as 10:00am. . I called and the woman said, oh right, I don't know why I had it down for that time. The groomer who left the note, said he was here from 10-10:30 waiting for me. That was obviously a lie because I was here and he was not. Done. I don't have time for this. The whole point of having a groomer come to your house is to make it more convenient and this was NOT. Never calling them again. I can't speak to the actual grooming as it never took place. read more

I am not yet fortunate enough to have a standard poodle of my very own, but I recently lucked into a position as part-time nanny of one. I picked him up from Mabel's today after his 4-hour session, and I was stunned. In a good way. He looked like a different dog! He is a handsome creature, even at his messiest. People stop their cars in the middle of the street to ask about him when we're out and about. Really. So I was completely unprepared for the fact that he would stride out of Mabel's shop an even finer dog than he'd been the last time I saw him. Wow! I don't know how they did it, but I'm pretty sure it involved hours of combing, various hair-care products and bathing techniques, lots of clipping, and yet more combing. The dog looked like a bazillion bucks when they were done with him! They even gift-wrap your dog before they send him back out into the world - a bow of questionable masculinity (red with white hearts) was hooked onto his collar before he left. (Fortunately this particular man-dog has no hang-ups about that sort of thing. He's very open-minded like that.) Given that I am the nanny, and not the parent, I can't comment on prices, consistency, etc. What I can tell you is that they managed to transform a dog who already had it going on - star power, charisma, suaveness, charm, the whole nine yards - into the most magical dog I've ever seen. If only my hair looked that fantastic after a trip to the groomer...er, salon. read more

My boy is a labradoodle (oh, he's such a good by, yes he is) and has really curly poodle hair, which is not an easy thing to handle for some groomers. Not here! They've got talent! Mabel's mobile grooming has done his bath and cut a few times, and WOW. Every time he's received big time compliments. We also went into their location on Sepulveda and it was just as awesome. They even put a blue bow on his collar and gave him a treat as he left. My pup will be a client here forever (or as long as mommy can afford it)! read more

Mabel and her team are true professionals and performed a perfect cut for my 8 months old Labradoodle. It was his first time at a grooming salon and he felt understandably anxious. Mabel's staff gave him a warm welcome and was patient with him until he felt more relax. It was a last minute booking at the staff was very accommodating. I started out grooming my boys (two Miniature Schnauzers), myself, but after several years, I found it difficult, so I turned to "professional groomers". We have been to several groomers over the years, and have experienced everything from one almost blinding one of the dogs to outright physical abuse. There are some really sick people in this world. To this day, it is necessary for me to give mild tranquilizers to them before being groomed, because of the trauma they endured. The haircuts my boys have received have ranged from excellent (the accidental blinder) to horrendous (at our vet), and everything in between, so I am always dubious when a groomer is recommended to me. Maria greeted us today, and the boys took an immediate shine to her. The shop was tiny, but clean, and the parking is right out front. I dropped them off at 10AM, and Maria called at noon to say they were ready to be picked up. SO quick! Both the boys looked great, and appeared happy and relaxed, which make me a happy customer, indeed! We may have finally found a groomer we can trust. I only hesitated to give Mabel's 5 stars, because this was our first visit, but we will definitely be going back. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE Never Again Dog grooming is the same everywhere (unless you have a show dog). There is no difference from one groomer to the next -- the only difference is CUSTOMER SERVICE and in that department Mabel and her little group of rude dog washers who don't speak English are an epic fail. Anyone can bath and groom a dog. This is a service business, and the service here is very bad and incredibly rude. Now I understand why the other Yelpers write about Mabel being unprofessional. I called Saturday and was told to bring my dog in for a grooming as I have for over two years. 1. I signed in properly, got in my car and then Mabel chased me into the parking lot and told me I needed to sign in -- until I pointed out my name and all info right where it was supposed to be. "Oh, I din't see it," she said. 2. It has never taken more than 2 hours. Instead, after 3 and a half hours, I called to check on when he would be ready and the woman answering the phone refused to give her first name and when I asked 3 times, she simply hung up on me. Amazing. You can tell a lot about a business by how the phones are answered, and whether the person introduces themself by first name. Hanging up on a customer who called to inquire about his dog??? Maybe it is because most people there don't speak much English, but other people in Latin America are polite. 3. So I drove over, and 3.5 hours later, my dog was still not ready, Instead, I was told they were "backed up." Uhmmm, perhaps they shouldn't have booked so many dogs, or should have said it would take twice as long when I called to make the appointment??? 4. The cut looked rushed, uneven on his coat and his ears. I don't know what shampoo they used but he's been itching ever since and I will have to re-bathe him today. 5. I declined the offer for a refund for the poor service, trying to be fair. Instead, I was practically all the way home when I noticed Mabel didn't put my dog's collar back on! Another trip across the westside wasting another half hour of my valuable time all because neither she nor her Spanish speaking workers don't care or pay any attention to the customer or doing their job. 6. Talked to Mabel today who explained it was all my fault. That someone was on vacation that day, that I should've known they were backed up, that it was my fault one of her workers hung up the phone on me because she thought I was a vendor, that forgetting to put the dog's collar back on with his name and vaccination tags was "a mistake" and she is sorry.. . Dog grooming is the same everywhere (unless you have a show dog). First review still stands; it is an honest and unembellished description of my dreadful experience with Mabels. No discounts were ever requested and the price not disputed. I just didn't want him shaved, he was not matted in any way and didnt need to be shaved. Read Schuyler K and Larry C reviews. It appears my request for non shaving is not the first. Its a lazy way to take care of a dog. I had recently adopted him from a KILL SHELTER and yes, it was his first time for him to be groomed. You would think any dog loving person would jump at the chance to pamper him, but not this woman, she was rude and dispassionate in every possible way. I have lived in 90049 for 31 years minus a year or so in another state on a business project. Why, I wonder, would this matter to Mabel's???? The mobile unit comes to bath my 16 year old blind, deaf and literally weak in the knees Bichon Frise dog. She's never been groomed better and is in and out of the mobile unit within in an hour. It's about time I write a review for Mabel's. I've been to several groomers on the west side and Mabel's is THE BEST. My neighbor, whose dog always looks impeccably groomed, made the recommendation a couple years ago and we've been going here ever since. They are so nice and very patient with my 4.5 lb Maltipoo who hates the groomer. Her hair cuts are always perfect. Plus, scheduling is a breeze and they only keep her for a couple hours. Mabel's Dog Grooming came to my home perhaps 5 times, for my 3 dogs. Raoul, who does the work, is very thorough and caring. The reason I am giving a 2 star review is not because of the quality of work, but because of Mabel's absence of professionalism. On one occasion, Mabel texted 15 minutes before the appointment to cancel. No apology. No sincere anything -- as in respect for her clientelle. And just a few days ago, I called in 1 hour after the scheduled appointment, thinking perhaps they were running late. Mabel said Raoul left her a message saying he was sick, and she was too busy to let me know. I reminded her this has happened before, at which point she began to verbally attack me for holding her accountable. It was in poor taste, and simply unprofessional. If she was somewhat acknowledging or respectful, I would have attempted another appointment, but it's difficult to build trust with such a temperament. No thanks. read more

I have a 10 lb Matese (Oliver) that I've taken to Mabel's for a couple of years now. Each time I've been there I have given different instructions as to cut and any special features I've wanted: e.g. short around the collar so that I could use a bark collar, seasonal short, medium or long etc. Each and every time I've taken him to Mabel's, he has been delivered back on time and with exactly the cut I wanted with no refinements or alterations necessary. I have never once been less than pleasantly surprised. Although Oliver doesn't always want to go to the groomer (like a typical 2-3 year-old kid), he never has a problem once he is there. He goes into calm-submissive mode and lets them do their work. Mabel's does a job that I've attempted to do myself and could never get him to stay still long enough the way that Mabel's can. Anyway, I could never match "the look" they give him. I have worked with Maria several times and can tell you that she has a special gift. Last time I was there I let her know that "I appreciate your art." That and the above, I believe, "says it all." Mark H. read more
