    Lobster roll
    Tara B.

We took ours to go to Colony beach for sunset. It was our first meal in Kennebunk. Ordered a lobster roll, fish and chips, lobster mac and cheese and salad. All good but not amazing. My son said his mac and cheese was kind of watery. The lobster roll was good but could have used a little more flavor. It had a decent amount of meat but pricey.

Mabel's has been around for quite a while and remains popular although our first visit last week left us disappointed. For starters, we made a reservation and our table wasn't;t ready. That happens; we understand. We were then seated in a narrow, uncomfortable booth inside (three of us). And then we had difficulty conversing with a lot of customer noise surrounding us. So maybe we weren't in the best mood. They didn't have the beer we ordered off the menu. Ok, that happens. When we asked for a substitute side we were told bluntly no substitutes are allowed. Nobody said "sorry." So our mood wasn't getting better. And the crab cake appetizer was bland. But -- the seafood dishes were good: the Newberg ($38) was rich and tasty and so were the Duke (scallops, shrimp, lobster, haddock - $40) and the Duchess (scallops, shrimp lobster - $38). We passed on dessert, filled but not exactly happy with our entire experience. Oh yeah, our server apparently forgot us when it came time to give us the bill. We waited and waited. Not nearly as good a visit as we hoped.

This was the first restaurant I visited upon arriving in Kennebunkport. I loved the small town charm of Mabel's. I enjoyed a lobster roll outside for lunch. While there is a decent amount of outdoor seating, you will find more space inside to eat. My lobster roll tasted fresh. I picked the mayo lobster roll option. I enjoyed the sides presented with the roll. The Cole slaw, pickles, and fries made my lobster roll lunch absolutely delicious. Friendly staff and quick service.

This is my favorite place! First of all, I had the best espresso martini that I've ever had! We started off with the crabcakes, which were extremely crispy with a great dipping sauce. I of course, had to have the lobster roll, which was one of the best ones in the area! My friend got the mussels which were in this broth that was highly addictive. We couldn't stop dunking the bread! Our waitress was fun and everything about this place was perfect! It's adorable inside very quaint and decorated nicely.

This was our first time in Kennebunkport and we were referred by a local to try Mabel's. We ordered the steamed clams, the clams were ok, just a little gritty. Then for our main we ordered the rigatoni panna with lobster, this was an excellent pasta dish! Our server was super friendly and the service was great!

Rigatoni with shrimp - probably the best lunch dish of ever!

With the perfect combination of kind staff and fantastic lunch options, this place is a must stop in! Opens at 11:30 and we'd suggest trying to be the first ones there because by 11:40 the place is packed! Deservedly so. A++ place!

Really great food with friendly service. I had the Duchess and was glad I did. It was an order of Lobster, Scallops & Shrimp served with white rice and steamed veggies. Brie took great care of us. Glad we stopped in.

I decided to take a spontaneous drive up to Kennebunkport, Maine--because why not? It's one of those places you always hear about on TV and in the news, and I've always been curious about what's really up there in our little state tucked in the upper right-hand corner. The town itself is a charming, picturesque coastal village with strong old-English vibes. It actually reminded me of some of the small towns I explored in the UK. Quaint shops, historic homes, and beautiful gardens line the streets--plus, it's surrounded by multimillion-dollar homes that add a touch of elegance to the whole experience. When it came time to eat, I turned to Google and saw that President George H. W. Bush used to dine at Mabel's Lobster Claw. I figured, if it was good enough for a president, it's good enough for this average American! Mabel's is known for its fresh crab and lobster. Everyone I spoke to raved about the crab--apparently, it's to die for. But here's my confession: I don't like crab. I know, don't yell at me--I just can't get into the taste. Still, I was this close to ordering one, just to see if fresh Maine crab would finally win me over. I almost wished I had someone with me who'd order it so I could sneak a bite. Instead, I started with calamari and a bowl of New England clam chowder, followed by the Cajun fish fry. Everything tasted fresh, no doubt about that. The calamari was impressively tender--not chewy at all--and the chowder, while more broth-based than creamy, had great flavor without being overloaded with potatoes. Maybe that's the Maine style, and honestly, I liked it. Now, the fish fry was where things missed the mark for me. The fish itself was thick and clearly fresh, but the breading just didn't hit right. It was supposed to be Cajun-style, but the seasoning was off--it tasted mostly like bland flour with a faint suggestion of spice. I ended up skipping the fish, but no hard feelings--the calamari and chowder made up for it. For dessert, I had the blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was cold and creamy, exactly what you'd hope for. The pie, however, was a bit of a letdown. The blueberry filling was dry, the crust was tough instead of flaky, and it just lacked that sweet, buttery flavor I was hoping for. Before leaving, I caught a glimpse of a massive lobster being delivered to another table. It looked incredible--definitely photo-worthy. I couldn't help but think, "Why don't my taste buds like lobster?" It looked so good it almost made me want to change my mind. If you find yourself in Kennebunkport, definitely stop by Mabel's. But do me a favor--order the lobster and tell me all about it. I'm living vicariously through your taste buds!

Every bit worth the stop! Atmosphere, ambiance, food & service was amazing! A little off the beaten path of the main area, but so worth it! 10/10 for the food and was plenty for two people to share! HIGHLY recommend, Mabel's!!

The decor was on point, air conditioning inside amazing, the wait wasn't too long for a late lunch and the staff were accommodating and friendly. We ordered lobster rolls and while good- we were underwhelmed with the amount of meat/quality. Note: we live on the north shore so we have a lot of access to fresh lobster rolls, so we might have felt different if this was a novelty for us!

Baked stuff lobster generously stuffed with scallops shrimps and clams. Stuffing perfectly seasoned

Going for the lobster mac & cheese is a plus but you will pay for it. Perhaps it's well worth it. If you are on vacation. it was for us.

I ordered pan-blackened haddock tacos - but asked that instead of them being in tortillas, could the ingredients just be "thrown into a bowl?" I was being high-maintenance right out of the gate. I realized that this was a weird request. I'm not sure what my deal was, I just felt like having things in a bowl that day (insert shrug here). Our server's name was Shane and she was so pleasant and more than happy to put my odd request in (side note, she was phenomenal for our entire visit! Thank you Shane!) The end-result of my bizarre request was the most delicious bowl of yum ever! Truly, if haddock is your thing, give it a try. It looked delicious, it tasted even better; holy moly, the people in the kitchen totally understood the assignment. Shane even said she showed it off to the other people working before bringing it to our table. It really, truly was that good. I'm still dreaming about it. Basically, Federal Jack's has it all: a phenomenal menu, awesome food, wonderful staff, great vibes. It's the kind of place you want to revisit, and wish you lived closer to.

Both were exactly as we had hoped. The free valet parking was also a bonus. Regarding the actual food, for new it was a Greek Salad with grilled chicken and my dinner partner had the lobster roll. The salad was just a salad, the lettuce was not the freshest and the dressing was sparse, but the chicken was well grilled and juicy. My friend said the lobster roll was good as it did not have large chucks of celery, and the flavor of the lobster was good. She said she has had better and she had worse. Again, if though want pubs food with a drink and a great view, this is the spot. If you are seeking a great and flavorful meal, I would look elsewhere.

The seating at the bar was busy, so I sat at an open metal table next to the bar. The server brought over a menu to look over. I decided on the Fish & Chips special ($16 plus tax) and the Sweet Sausage Sautee ($15 plus tax). Both entrees came out together in 17 minutes. The portions were good on both. The fish & chips were very hot, crispy coating on the outside, tartar sauce on the side. The hand cut fries were firm and tasty. The shredded creamy cole slaw was sweet & tangy. The sautee dish had a mix of al dente cavatappi pasta tossed in a light cream tomato sauce with peppers, onions, small sausage bits and shaved parmesan cheese. I managed to finish both entrees and got the check with Toast QR code which was $33.64 with tax and before tip. The internet is very weak in this part of Deerfield, so had to pay the normal way.
