Love this place! I had the green goddess salad as a starter and the roasted chicken as an entree. The presentation and flavors were impeccable. The wine list was top tier. I highly recommend the cornbread as well. The service is fantastic! Dana and Javier (the owners) treated us like family. Joseph was our waiter and was great as well. The atmosphere is quintessential Maine, but still updated and modern. Sweeping views out of large windows (see photos). Service was pretty decent. Some times seemed to take a bit for our server to come by but nothing crazy. Pretty place on the water, so great view. My martini was perfect, but food left a lot to be desired. I was debating between the mac & cheese (without lobster) and the stuffed leeks. The server convinced me to get the stuffed leeks. When they came out, the leeks themselves/the filling were room temp (like not hot or cold), but the sauce around it was hot, which I thought was odd. It almost seemed like the leeks had been sitting out for a while and then the sauce was poured on at the last second. I didn't want to sound crazy by asking the server if the dish should be warm, so shortly after receiving, I asked to order the kids mac & cheese. It was $16!!! For such a small portion. I didn't even finish 2/3 of the leeks and was kind of hoping to get it taken off our bill since I paid $28 for something I didn't end up eating due to how it was served/worry about food being left out and not properly heated. We had a hard time choosing where to eat because everything around the area had like three stars, but would come highly recommend recommended. This is one I think I would say could be skipped! Javier refuses to return my 10 calls after he promised to provide a $60 credit. We made a reservation for 3 for a Saturday night. They required a credit card to make the reservation. My husband got a stomach virus Friday night and was violently ill so I called the restaurant as soon as they opened Saturday morning and explained that he was really sick and they said they would make an exception and request a refund Monday am for the $60.00 they charged me for not canceling with at least a 48 hour notice. Monday afternoon rolls around and still no credit and the charge posted. I called Javier, the owner and he said he didn't hear back from the 3rd party they use that actually charges their clients credit cards. I asked him to please call them back and he got angry and said don't tell me what to do and hung up on me. I contacted the third party company and they informed me that no one requested a credit under my reservation so I was lied to. We still have not received the credit promised and he refuses to return calls from me and my husband. They would rather you bring your sickness to their restaurant apparently. They clearly don't deserve or care about your well being and could care less about infecting their staff and other patrons! Shame on you. You had hours and hours to fill our reservation and I'm sure didn't lose anything. Really sleezy way to make money when someone is ill. Go somewhere else!!!!! read more

MC is my favorite restaurant. The service is always sublime. Dana and Javier are so kind and welcoming always. I've never had a meal here that hasn't been amazing. My favorites are the heirloom tomato salad, shrimp cocktail, chowder, calamari, and salmon. Tonight I got the seared scallop special and it was outstanding. Don't forget the sides of carrots and cornbread. Lastly, the views are incredible. As far as ocean views in Ogunquit, this is the best place to go. read more

Our first restaurant of our Ogunquit trip, and what a way to start. We were met with the rudest hostess/manager after making a completely reasonable request to move our table. We were seated practically a foot from another customer despite plenty of open tables. When we asked to move, she hit us with, "Can't you just deal? It's just a few inches." Sorry, I didn't realize I was paying $20 for a soupy burrito to get a side of your wicked attitude. TLDR: The inner workings of your business and seating section are not the customer's concern when the customer makes a reasonable request. And while we're at it: it took 20 minutes to "waterproof" the outdoor area after it started raining, during which both our party and another table got absolutely soaked. Apparently putting down an awning is a group project. Oh, and I guess we're also paying to get pieces of long black hair in our food. Yeah, that happened. As if the subpar food wasn't already enough of a fun ride. And on the off chance the manager sees this and feels compelled to write a response (because I hear you have nothing else to do), I won't be checking this review again for at least a year, so save your breath. This is the first time we have visited Ogunquit and before coming down we made reservations at MC Perkins Cove. Once we got here we found mostly full parking lots with high parking fees and the restaurant has no parking of its own. I called to cancel our reservations and was told nothing about cancelation fees. Later, when I checked email, I found that we had been charged $40 to cancel. As busy as the whole area is there is no way that our table remained empty. Needless to say, we will not be back. read more

Unfortunately, we made a reservation for 5 and I was very specific that I wanted outside when I reserved. The person that answered said that for brunch, they just do outside anyway so I thought that was fine. When we arrived they did not have a table for 5 available for outside which happens, so I asked how long it would be. The hostess just kept saying they don't have any and they are only seating parties of 2 outside. I don't think she was trying to be rude, but I think she just did not get it. Her response was "there were probably seats when you made the reservation, but there aren't any now". We also had 2 seniors with us and despite downstairs being practically empty, she asking to seat us upstairs inside. Just felt like they were oblivious to what you should do when a customer has a reservation that you are unable to keep and that you don't have seniors head upstairs unnessesarily. read more

My wife, children, grandchildren and parents have dined at M.C. Perkins Cove since the days of Mark and Clark. The food there is excellent. The menu varies by season and always reflects a local Maine touch. The appetizers are exquisite (Shellfish Tower, Shrimp Cocktail, Oysters, Salads and Chowders) and the entrees always tasteful whether its the lobster, salmon, scallops, which are always fresh , or the beef, chicken or duck dishes, all are perfectly cooked as ordered. The wine list is ample and if there is something that you want for a special occasion, you should call in advance and they may be able to order it. No guarantees but they try! And the desserts, well my mouth is watering as I write this. Please bring back the sticky toffee pudding!!! We have always found the wait staff to be professional, patient and polite. Dana and Javier have done a great job juggling the natural challenges in this area. Trainees shadow the pros and they learn how to handle the range of high-low and no maintenance guests. We have seen them all! The ambience is warm and inviting and of course, the many views of the cobalt blue Atlantic and Marginal Way from the roof deck and most tables simply wraps the entire dining experience into a magical evening. If you have never gone, plan your parking because like all great restaurants tucked into small seacoast towns in Maine, its is in short supply, and if you can't find it, there are pay-for parking options within a short 2 minute walk. So, all in all, you must take the time to visit M.C. Perkins Cove Restaurant when you are in Ogunquit. read more

Do not go here! Terrible service and staff that doesn't know the menu or products advertised. The owner is arrogant and tasteless. We experienced a problem with the mussel's appetizer. When the manager/owner asked us what the problem was, he quickly became arrogant and aggressive. He did not want to remove the charge. We were disappointed. Beautiful location but food and service were lackluster. Brussel sprouts were inedible bc of the salt (had to send back), tartar special had maybe 3 root chips to put it on, heirloom tomato salad were absolutely not all heirloom tomatoes and just overall bland, and the foie gras brioche was soggy (not in a good way) and couldn't tell what was foie gras and what was bread. Will say the duck confit was fantastic but needed a defined starch to go with it as the potato side was buried underneath and didn't realize it was there until the end. And honestly our female server really needs some training as she seemed not to know what to say along the journey. She just kept saying "are you finished or still enjoying?" from drinks to apps to mains. Again, lackluster and I know servers are probably summer jobs here but need more training and to hire people who, well...like other people. Just an overall disappointment given we specifically came to you from a write up we saw and we were celebrating a special occasion. read more

The shrimp was extremely salty! Horrible! They did NOT acknowledge special occasion events, even though they made multiple assurances that they would. They did not tell us that there would be an additional charge for a vegetable topping. A server should ALWAYS tell a customer if they are going to have an additional charge on their bill! read more

After a wonderful experience our first time there, we decided to return. We were seated at our requested window table, with its nice water view. There the positives end. This visit was spoiled by poor service. After being told by our waiter that our food was coming, 45 minutes after our order was taken, we were dismayed that our entrees were delivered and they completely forgot our salad. Where was the salad we ordered for our first course? And where was the second glass of red wine my wife ordered? We ordered a seafood dish with clams, mussels, haddock, and shrimp atop a pasta in a "saffron" sauce, and a grilled beef tenderloin with potatoes and grilled asparagus. The seafood dish featured perfectly prepared fish and shellfish, but the sauce had little flavor. I sampled the beef tenderloin, which had a nice flavor but was otherwise indistinguishable. The long wait for food, as well as the scatterbrained attitude of our waiter, made this dining experience so uncomfortable that we decided to skip dessert and just pay our bill and leave. And we had to pay for parking a princely sum to make matters even more adverse. We won't be back. read more

We returned to Ogunquit tonight to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary with our family (we were married in Ogunquit in 2002). We made a 7:00 dinner reservation (requesting an ocean view) at M.C. Perkins Cove over 3 weeks in advance to ensure we would have a lovely evening. We arrived 20 minutes early and patiently waited at the bar until 7:00 when the hostess indicated a table outside on the upper deck was being cleaned for our group. But when we followed her upstairs she informed us that table was no longer available and she sat us inside where half of us faced a wall. We did not see our server for 15 minutes and that was only after we had to ask for water. We had to wait another 15 minutes to provide our drink and appetizer order and then another 15 minutes before our food order was taken. The service was incredibly slow, inattentive and lacked any concern for our dining experience. The food was okay, but not worth the almost $400 we spent for 5 guests. And a further slap in the face-- an automatic charge of 20% gratuity was added to the bill along with a charge for a Jim Beam that wasn't even ours. This was an extremely disappointing evening and ruined what should have been a wonderful family celebration. I don't normally write reviews but I couldn't avoid writing this one. read more

Very disappointing experience for a high end restaurant - as they position themselves as such. We made reservations for 8 pm (secured by credit card as requested by the restaurant),showed up at 7:30. Were seated at 8:20. Placed our orders -- three of us ordered steamed lobster and I ordered lazy lobster. At 8:30 we were told that they "ran out of lobsters". Yes, you read it right - in Ogunquit... they made it a point to take my credit card to make sure I come in for dinner, but could not deliver what I came in for. And no one bothered to tell us about it when we just came in so we could choose to go elsewhere. Ohh manager did not show up to deliver bad news they put it on the waitress.. who was great and very professional. We ordered other food which was very average and not worth your dinner time. I hope the owner reads this but then again I don't think anyone in this place cares, otherwise such situation would not be even possible. read more

My wife Carolyn and our dear friends Chris and Cheryl recently dined at this lovely fine dinning establishment. The dining room has many large windows laying bare the expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean. We were looking forward to a very special culinary experience. All is well until Cheryl is served onion rings that were soggy and undercooked. The kitchen had just been opened and we the among the very first to be served. It's likely the oil was simply not hot at the required temperature to properly fry the onion rings. No big deal The server will gladly take them away and return with onion rings that are crispy instead of soggy. Afterall, it's just an appetizer right? Wrong! The sever took them away and upon returning declared that they are supposed to be almost white in color and soggy. Oh, would you like to try French fries instead? No problem, as long as you understand that the cost of the unediible onion rings will not be removed from your bill and you will be charged for the fries. By the way, our bill without any alcohol or dessert was a little over $200 including tip for our party of four seniors. One would think that the chef or manager or owner would accommodate the reasonable request of a patron to have onion rings that were not gooey. Evidently, this dining establishment has no class whatsoever or any desire for their customers to be happy with the food they ordered. We will never return. Chris and Cheryl own their own home in Kennebunk and often walk the the Marginal Way path along the shoreline that is just a hundred yards from this restaurant. They are actually repeat customers. However, after this gross disregard for a customer's simple request they or my wife and I will never set foot in this haughty establishment again. Avoid M.C. Restaurant at Perkins Cove at all costs -- choose The Terrace or The Tiller Restaurant at the Cliff House instead. I'm writing to warn the public: Owner, Javier Nava, of M.C. at Perkins Cove publicly demoralizes staff and guests. Visit the Cliff House instead for free valet parking and an experience that truly puts you first. It's all about your comfort and satisfaction, not an owner-centered display. And when issues arise, accountability is handled with professionalism rather than shifting blame onto the staff. The Cliff house restaurants each have jaw-dropping, panoramic oceanfront views -- breathtaking scenery you have to see to believe. I agree with Tim Mattingly's previous review posted below saying "Javier, you may not have been an owner at the time but you were General Manager so my review stands. Update 6 years later: My wife and I were just discussing our worst restaurant experience in the entire world and we agreed it is this place. Original review: TERRIBLE!!! Rude arrogant management." Here's why I agree with him: We initially had a 6:45 pm reservation at M.C. and called about 30 minutes prior to ask if we may possibly sit on the oceanfront deck? The receptionist assured us that we could if we come right away to get the best available table. We hop in the car and arrive 20 minutes early and the host tells us she'll seat us at the oceanfront table as soon as it's cleared and reset. We're told that the table is specifically being made ready for us. Not only is the restaurant empty, the deck is empty, and there's no one in line for the next 20 minutes. Then suddenly, for no reason, the owner (Javier Nava) intervenes and instructs the host not to seat us at the oceanfront table -- even after the she tries to explain to him what she promised us - he cuts her off and instructs her not to seat us there, directing her instead to seat us at the worst table on the deck: it was so cramped in a corner that we were not even able to face each other -- we were effectively boxed in next to the only other 2 guests. I was practically sitting on a male stranger's lap! To make things worse, the staff and host actively resetting the table for us are forced to put us in an unfair position as they're aggressively being micromanaged and treated under pressure while instinctively just trying to provide basic, good quality service. After we're marched up and down the stairs several times, the owner instructs the very next couple who walk in (20 minutes after us) to be seated at the same table they reset for us. After this, we politely decline to eat and leave. As Maine natives, we're genuinely shocked by the lack of consistency, respect, and professionalism the owner of M.C. portrays. I'm a doctor and the owner of a private practice and my husband is an actuary working as a data scientist. Every other restaurant in Perkin's Cove sits us at any open table we like. After all, who cares? Just go to the Cliff House for free valet parking and exceptional service. The focus stays on the guest experience--courteous, attentive, and tailored to your needs. This is the difference between service-minded leadership and self-centered management. The Cliff House offers reliable service you can feel--thoughtful, welcoming, and genuinely customer-focused. Last year, I would have given M.C. Perkins Cove 5 stars. Did management or the executive chef changed? This summer, I feel that this restaurant is no longer fine dining. The view is excellent, of course but the food needs improvement. Fish Taco: should be one piece of fish, not small square pieces of fish. It was also hardly fried. Either do a good frying or serve grilled, not a weird in between. Lobster Roll: Wow. I expected so much more. Aside from it being rather small, the lobster meat was chewy, chewy, chewy. Would never get the lobster roll here again. Sweet Cheese Creme Brûlée: There was hardly any brulee on this dessert. It also tasted like it was torched and then stored in a fridge. Didn't taste freshly torched. Shrimp & Risotto: The risotto was good, the shrimp was undercooked even though I asked for the shrimp to be cooked more on the well done side. M.C. Perkins Cover: Please address the decline, as I used to think this was the best restaurant in Ogunquit. read more

We came here for lunch before going to the Ogunquit Playhouse for a matinee. Too bad parking is such a bear. We had to pay $20. to park up the street from the cove. I wish eateries or chamber of commerce would offer some discount to help subsidize to cost of folks coming to eat or shop. We had made reservations and were immediately sat in a primo location in the corner with floor to ceiling windows and we felt like rock stars...... until our very embarrassed host came and moved us to another table saying she had put us at the wrong table. She was apologetic and our actual table was a lovely window table on the side of the dining room with smaller windows. We enjoyed the view. Two of us got the eggplant gyro which tastes less mediterranean and more like indian curry, but still good. I got the fish tacos which come as a pair. It was delicious but left me a tiny bit hungry still, so I split a pavlova with my friend for dessert and the coffee gelato was so good. The pavlova combo was a little too sweet for us. We shared the crab fritter appetizer which was delicious but very small. The prices were not too bad, but don't expect large servings. The service was amazing. When I declined the bun and fries (because, silly me, I assumed I wouldn't be charged for food I literally didn't receive) I was treated to a little surprise: a surcharge for substituting air with vegetables. Who knew "not ordering something" was an upcharge-worthy event? Overall, MC Perkins Cove is perfect if you enjoy playing financial roulette with your dinner bill. VIBE: The dining room was pleasantly rustic, with a nice view of the cove. Lighting was atmospherically dim. Noise level was tolerable. SERVICE: Staff were hospitable; our server was briskly attentive. Food was well coursed and arrived promptly. FOOD: A Caesar salad was OK. The warm cabbage salad was reported to be quite good, with nice flavor and nicely melted cheese. One person said their bistro burger was good, and that the fries were large and "real." The others of us had shrimp and clams on risotto: the shrimp were plump, juicy and delicious; the clams were dry and overcooked; the risotto was OK. There was a good selection of wines by the glass. Overall, I'd say everything was A-OK, but not quite a 4. It wouldn't be at the of my list on a future visit to the area. read more

After years of admiring M.C. Perkins Cove from afar, I decided to make a reservation here to celebrate a special occasion. They have a positive reputation and I was excited for my dining experience. The bar was comfortable and the bartender was energetically friendly. The martini glass was sleek and chilled with ice. I was ecstatic to see that they carried another local vodka and I couldn't wait to try it. Ice Pik Vodka was smooth and gluten-free. The flavor was so light and delicate that it was perfect to drink straight. It had a refreshing taste and left me wanting more. The cocktail was served with only two firm, salty olives. My hangups at this restaurant were in the menu, food, and overall experience. The menu was creative but limited and since we were dining next to the Atlantic Ocean, I would have preferred to see more seafood options. They also had a hard rule of no substitutions and as a diner with many food restrictions, this made it challenging and ultimately frustrating. Additionally, the service was slow, I suspect because they were understaffed, and while I sympathize, this also added to a disappointing guest experience. A shadow of itself under new ownership. The establishment requires business casual, the owner must also be in the car wash business as he was dressed in dirty overwashed blue jeans and a just as tired Hawaii shirt. We opted for house / local water which had a terrible taste which made us double think any food items that might require washing. The service was haphazard at best as we never actually knew who our server was but one of the waiters did find it amusing to sing aloud when he was bored. The trend for the bare light bulbs with visible filaments was distracting enough to ruin the overall atmosphere. Wouldn't recommend nor would ever return read more
