Mabey's handled our move from upstate NY to California. Everything went perfectly at the move out part of the process and the office staff were wonderful to work with. We had to leave our stuff in storage in NYS for 8 months due to Covid restrictions and Mabey's made this easy to do. Pricing for our move was quite reasonable. Helpful hint: The packing crew should absolutely number each box with a sharpie and record how many boxes in total are being shipped. We have the unsettling feeling at least one box got left behind in NYS. So 4 stars not 5. read more

Horrible experience. Before my move in 2021, the Maybe's Movers assured me they had never had problems with damaged furniture and talked me out of adding extra insurance coverage. That turned out to be a huge mistake. The movers arrived and didn't speak to me or even made eye contact. When my furniture was delivered, I was shocked by the amount of damage. Several pieces of solid cherry furniture had dents, scratches, and gouges, and it appeared that little or nothing had been properly secured inside the truck. They broke a large umbrella holder and tossed it in the snow without telling me. They also damaged walls and put dents in my expensive front door while moving furniture through the house. My floor safe worked perfectly before the move, but afterward I had to destroy it just to get it open. They never explained why they refused to move a large computer desk or my matching Queen Anne recliners. They also failed to reconnect my convertible bed, leaving wires hanging out everywhere. Over the years I spoke with and emailed multiple employees, completed forms, and submitted photos multiple times. Each time I was told to resubmit documentation, and then I would hear nothing back. To this day I have not been reimbursed for any of the damages, which would supposedly be based on weight. This is by far the worst moving company I have ever dealt with. I wish I could give Mabey's Movers and storage a 0. My mother was moving out of one house into storage and then into another. When her stuff arrived at her new house it was devastating to see how many things they broke. She has beautiful furniture and antiques, and they were ruined. The door on her hutch cannot be opened because the hinge was torn off the door, an antique victrolla's top was damaged and the governor and crank lost (this is a family heirloom and is irreplaceable!), the corner of the coffee table and 2 dressers were chipped, glassware broken inside the boxes, handles to dressers lost, screws to attach mirrors lost, wheels to furniture gone. After paying over 6,000, the job should have been done more competently. Top it all off, when she calls to report the damage they tell her she should have paid for insurance! Mabey movers are supposed to be insured!!! I would definitely not recommend! read more

Worst experience ever! Stay clear of this company!! Mike will tell you whatever you need to hear to get your contract and then even though there is written proof, they will rip you off in the end in order to keep your money. They owed us for over estimating weight and so accounting decided to add bogus charges like additional boxes and packaging to even out our refund due. Worst moving experience ever!! They mislead us on how long it would take to deliver our furniture From Albany, NY to Tennessee. When pick up day came they sent a small truck and said our entire house of furniture was being moved to storage. While they said it was only for a day or two, it turned out to be over a week. The truck didn't even leave Mabey's until the expected delivery date. When we asked why there was a delay, the General Manager was abusive. He said, "Read your contract pal, we can do anything we want " and hung up on me. I asked the salesman if I could speak to the owner and he said no. They Happy-talk you until you sign the contract and then treat you like crap. read more

Can't rate them highly enough. From the moment I requested a quote to my actual move about three weeks later, Mabey's was nothing but professional and responsive. My situation was a little unique: an interstate move with several large/bulky items requiring weekend storage, but everything went off without a hitch. The loaders and delivery guys were punctual, friendly and professional, very respectful of my items, and put everything right where I wanted it to go. It was all well wrapped and they even took apart a large china cabinet for me and reassembled it in its new home. I did not have the ability to schedule a pre-move walkthrough but Mabey's was able to provide a quote based on the photos and dimensions I provided. The actual cost for this move ultimately came in lower than expected, and was very fair. I wouldn't hesitate to use Mabey's again in the future, or to recommend them five stars. read more

I strongly recommend against using Mabey's Moving and Storage for a cross country move. I've used Atlas Van Lines a few times before, with great results. This time I went with Atlas and it was subcontracted to Mabey's. I sincerely hope Atlas drops Mabey's as a subcontractor, as it will hurt their reputation. Poor communication: * In NY it's typical to get a Certificate of Insurance to use a moving elevator. I had to ask them for this six times before they were able to deliver it. * We never received a call about when the movers were coming. We called the office, they said they would call back, and they never did. * For delivery, I also never received a call confirming delivery time. I called their office twice the day before to ask about it. They said they didn't hear from the driver. I asked for the driver's number. The driver responded to me immediately. I suspect Mabey's wasn't even trying. Dishonest estimates, scammy practices: * Another moving company pointed out the extra cost for a smaller shuttle on delivery. They said companies often leave this out on purpose. I asked my Mabey's rep about this and he said don't worry, it's in the estimate. It wasn't. * Even worse: they claim that you won't pay more than 10% over the estimate. Of course, my total was 10% over the estimate. But, there is a clause that says they can charge up to another 15% if you sign an agreement after delivery for extra services. I was ~tricked~ into signing an agreement for extra services. This extra service was a smaller shuttle on pickup, which 1) was unnecessary, 2) was left off of the initial estimate, 3) was left off of my final bill of sale. All by "accident". This sequence of "accidents" let them charge me 25% over the estimate instead of the guaranteed 10% max. Perfect. They agreed to pay for 1/2 of this extra charge. I was tempted to sue them but wanted to be done with the ordeal. Damaged goods: * My furniture was poorly protected. My expensive record cabinet has a big scratch on the side. There are other various nicks and issues. All because of a poorly done moving job. * The movers showed up without a mattress cover, so I needed to go buy one. * My mattress and various other things showed up covered in dirt and grime. read more

I had a horrible moving experience with these people , I'd give them a zero if I could. I paid $9600 for some packing and moving our belongings to the Rome area . I cannot begin to describe the damage to our furniture , our new Knotty pine walls are all scuffed up . Our tall clock was handled so roughly that it bounced the mechanism apart inside. My tools were damaged - see photos for some examples. I moved those tools twice , by myself with zero damage. There are few pieces of furniture that aren't scratched , dinged , dented or outright smashed. I found our safe with a huge dent in the side. And with all this damage , nobody ever said they were sorry , we'll make it right . They just placed the furniture in the house and acted like nothing happened. Maybe I won't see it until they leave. The day they were loading the truck the driver told me that they don't unload until they are paid in full - and oh by the way they won't know how much until the next day when they weigh the truck . The bill was $4000 over the estimate I got , the estimator never mentioned this billing arrangement , thank God my credit card wasn't maxed out. At my new house they unloaded all the boxes first and then whined there was no place for the furniture . We ( me and them) had to double handle all the boxes so they could place the furniture which they should have done first. They didn't want to assemble things like beds . They basically just dumped everything in the house and took off. It's taken me months to unpack and set up the house , my wife has back problems so I had to do it all by myself. Now the best part , it's the missing stuff. I have a lot of tools missing but also some electrical components for an antique radio restoration that are irreplaceable - gone , not here. I called the company to ask if they may have been left on the truck , nope. When I asked what they were going to do about it - I didn't buy extra insurance so tough luck. The extra insurance only pays so much per pound so if the item is irreplaceable what good is it . And why should I need insurance on them doing the job I hired them to do correctly. If I ever move again I sure as heck won't hire these guys - period! read more

I had quotes from 2 other movers for our move from NY to GA. I selected Mabey due to their outstanding reviews, the AAA discount on insurance coverage and the outstanding professionalism of the estimator Mike Ghent. I have read horror stories from other movers about damage or price differences from quotes. Mike assured me my actual price would be no more than what he estimated. He was right. The crew (I wish I remembered their names) were outstanding on both ends of the move. They even packed up some items we did not have boxes for that were fragile. No issues with damages. The only thing I would clarify if you are doing an interstate move is to ask if your stuff will be mixed with other stops and if you will be first or last on the stops. They provide a range of delivery dates and they met it. They made a typical very stressful time in your life much easier to deal with. Highly recommended. read more

The facility was spotlessly maintained, bright and secure, with a very thoughtful and efficient manager who was very responsive to all of my requests for information and assistance. The price was reasonable for the size of my unit (10'x20'), it was conveniently located next to I-90, and there were large and sturdy hand trucks that made moving in and out easy. Mabey's helped me pack and move the contents of my house to storage with incredible care. Today they moved my antique dining room set, desk, piano and a kitchen table to my new residence. After the furniture was on the truck, the guys straightened out and organized my two storage units. They made order out of chaos and actually put the kitchen table together for me once it was at my home. They also helped carry a huge heavy table to storage in my current residence. The point is they went above and beyond just moving things. Clayton, Jeffrey, Rinaldo, were so professional and efficient, but as I suspected, my piano was almost impossible to get in the house. Clayton called their office and Ryan and Tod came out to my house, and the 5 of them got that piano inside with no damage to any of my things. The price was less than the estimate, and I could just tell their work ethics and attention to detail was off the charts. I will absolutely use them again. read more

First off, the customer service staff that answer the phones are so polite and helpful. Then, the representative that comes to your home to evaluate and provide a quote - this is so critical. As we know, moving is one of life's most stressful events, so having an experienced and knowledgeable person to advise and help prepare you for the process is invaluable. Moving day was as expected, staff were professional, handled our stuff respectfully. There was no lollygagging, the guys worked and moved the whole time. Fabulous. From that, I referred friends who all had great experiences. Cut to 20 years later and our current move. Guess what? We had the same rep as for each time- Mike - and he was wonderful! Again, professional, experienced, and a pleasure to work with. We could not have been more pleased with the moving crew that came. We were moving from 4 levels of furniture (plenty of heavy, vintage furniture) to a 4 level home. We moved from East Greenbush, having to put our items in storage for ten days. The three man shift arrived on time, worked diligently throughout the morning and had our possessions loaded faster than the estimated time. Upon receipt in our new home, weeks later, a different crew-four men this time-again were careful, efficient and extremely respectful. The last move involved transporting the cargo up an elevator and around many corners. With most items unpacked at this point we have not noticed any breakage or scratches/dents to any items. The personnel at Mabey's are very prompt and helpful, but did not mention that we may be charged extra if our destination property did not accommodate the moving van transporting our goods. As a result we had an unanticipated additional charge of $1000 to complete our relocation. We had property damage resulting from our move. We filed a claim for goods damaged in transit. Our experience with Atlas was VERY disappointing. Their claims department denied items which were packed by owner (not a risk anyone explained before we paid an additional $675 for coverage which was useless. I would not, cannot, recommend either this company (Maybe's) or its affiliate (Atlas) for an interstate move. read more

After using them for our first move, we were extremely impressed with the service that we got from everyone: administration workers, packers, and movers. In the last 12 months, Mabey's has moved my bosses furniture twice. The first time was due to water pipes bursting in their home. All 18 rooms of furniture was packed, loaded and moved in to Mabey's warehouse in Rensselaer, NY (we are in Massachusetts). This move was EXTREMELY stressful due to the particular nature of the circumstances. Dan Spicer (VP of Sales at Mabey's), came out to the home and did an amazing job estimating the move and making sure everything would be taken care of in a professional and timely fashion. This was extremely important as there were many, many expensive pieces of art, statues, etc. On several occasions, I had to go to the warehouse to have particular items pulled and sent to various destinations for repair, etc. Operations and the warehouse manager were very understanding and cooperative with this matter. 6 months later, all of the items were moved back in to the home. The second move was due to my boss purchasing a new home. Once again, 18 rooms of furniture was packed up and moved to the new location. All of the guys that came out to my bosses home (13 guys I believe, in total), were extremely understanding and professional. There were 2 items broken which were a mirror pane and a picture frame. Amazing considering these were two very large moves within such a short amount of time. I can not say enough regarding Mabey's professional service and understanding throughout this whole process. Mabey's movers not only destroyed or damaged many of my belongings, the three men who moved me disappeared for long stretches of time when they were ostensibly loading the truck. I called the manager, George Derbyshire, while this was going on, and he told me to "keep track of the amount time they were gone." One mover was particularly rude and intimidating. At one point he loudly announced that he'd stepped on my elderly dog's foot. I could not find my dog until I opened the door to one of the empty bedrooms, where the terrified animal was cowering. When I asked this mover why he locked my dog in a room, he didn't respond. Later, when I was presented with my invoice, it was MUCH higher than the estimate they'd given me. I called Mr. Derbyshire on the spot and he said, "Wow, that's quite a jump!" He then said I would have to pay it and Mabey's would then work with me to correct the problem. Why did I pay it? I had three movers in my apartment, all scowling with their arms folded, I was exhausted and frightened, and I naively trusted Mr. Derbyshire. Despite my five months of communication, including several conversations with Mr. Derbyshire in which he promised to "make things right," my sending numerous letters to him along with 22 photos of damaged furniture and other items (after he specifically told me to email him a list rather than filling out a standard claim form), Mr. Derbyshire stopped communicating with me. After a representative of Angie's List contacted him, he left me four telephone messages in one day, saying he would talk to me about "making things right." Angie's List intervened again, telling him he needed to communicate with me in writing, and he refused. read more

Update 8/26/16. The pick up date for my belongings was May 20th, 2016. Prior to the pickup date, the sales person clearly explained my furniture was to be wrapped in my apartment and loaded on the moving truck. That did not happen. The manager claims this was done outside the apartment and/or in the moving the truck. I was given a delivery date in writing of May 24th, 2016 to June 9th, 2016 (cross country move). My belongings were stored in the Mabey's warehouse in Upstate NY for approximately 15 days. Mabey's Sales manager referred me over to Atlas Van Lines Operations department. A gentleman in that department stated my belongings were still in the warehouse in Upstate NY and there was not enough room on one of their trucks. The lady with the Customer relations department was no help either. When I asked her why belonging were in Mabey's warehouse after 12 days her reply was the "delivery is not late yet." If the delivery is late Atlas does offer possible reimbursement for meals, lodging, etc but they are not required to reimburse the customer. The link below is for Atlas Van Lines Delay Claim Form. "Submitting a delay claim does not obligate Atlas to reimburse any expenses. If additional costs were incurred due to a delay in the agreed upon loading and/or delivery of your goods caused by Atlas, it is our policy to consider reimbursement for reasonable, actual out-of-pocket expenses such as lodging and up to 50% of meal costs (unless contract terms state differently). The movers did not wrap my furniture in blankets and wrap in my apartment upon pick up as explained by the sales person. My mattress and box springs were not boxed in my apartment as explained by the sales person. Pros: Free full value protection. The cost of the move was competitive with other local movers. The staff was friendly and quick to reply to emails. Their management had a genuine concern with my delivery time and the damage to my items. I was reimbursed for all damaged and missing items 100%. In addition, Atlas reimbursed me for the late delivery of 2 days past the committed time frame. read more
