I'm completely over the moon for MAC products, but the people who work here ruin it for me. Part of it isn't their fault, even with the expansion they did a few years back the store is nowhere near large enough to handle the volume of customers that come through the store. I have no idea why they don't move into a larger space. Because of the store size the artists are always incredibly busy and it's really hard to get service. If you are getting your make up done expect people to interrupt on average 3 times because there is no one to help them. There aren't enough registers so you have to wait to have someone get your products and then wait again to have them rung up by someone else. So the store is already starting off in a difficult position, sprinkle on a heavy dose of attitude and welcome to a customer service nightmare. They are always in such a rush and get impatient and pushy if you don't decide on an item right away. Also they seem to get annoyed if you want to try on colors. Its make up- I want to make sure it looks good on me! To avoid try to make an appointment, which means you'll be signed up for paying at least 50 bucks, but that's pretty easy to do here. The service is much better this way, but this review is for when you just walk in to get a few things. read more

I don't understand why this place has gotten bad reviews. I had one the best experiences than any other Mac cosmetics stores I have been to. I came on a busy Saturday with two of my great friends. An artist, Natalie helped us out and showed us some amazing how products. We each had different skin types and looks that suited how we wear our makeup. I found out I've been doing it all wrong & have been wearing the wrong makeup shade! (Thanks for Natalie lol) She even took the time to apply some of the makeup on all three of us. She was amazing. I got so many compliments on my look from her work. I typically don't get my makeup done, I usually do it myself but definitely go see her if you're wanting to get your make up done. The ladies who work here remind me of clowns. I'm very afraid of clowns. So I don't come here often. And especially not without my hubby, who will protect me if they decide to turn evil. MAC is a decent brand. It's not the most expensive of the department store cosmetics, but it's a pretty solid brand. I don't have too much bad to say about the brand itself. However, the employees in this store aren't the friendliest. I'm sure they get along better with other people with scary makeup, but they don't really seem to care too much about me in the store. So I first want to state the lady who did my makeup Kari did an amazing job! I didn't have a specific style so told her what I was wearing and let her do what she wanted. I have to say she did the most amazing job! I give her 5 stars. :) my makeup lasted all day and stayed perfect! The reason I am giving three stars is not for my makeup artist though. When I called to make my appointment I was reminded of the 50 dollars for it. I have gotten my makeup don't lots of time at MAC and have always known about the 50 dollars in product you have to purchase for your makeup. After getting my makeup done and picking out my products I wanted at the register looking down I noticed I was being charged an extra 50 dollars on top of the makeup I purchased. Upon asking about the charge I was informed that they had changed their policy's and it is 50 dollars to get your makeup done and you get no product with that and if you would like any you have to pay more. What upset me was that no one informed me of this change when making my appointment or during my appointment and I felt very blind sided. The women and men who work at the Mac counter scare me. I think the cast of "Cats" wears makeup that is subtler than the florescent powders and liquids that the Mac people lacquer on before they go to work. Also, this shop tends to have loud obnoxious music playing. Yet, it is an appropriate sound track to shopping at one of the most bustling stores in the Fashion Valley mall. I've never come across a Mac product that I couldn't live without so, thankfully I have no need to shop at this store regularly because the costumers and freaky sales people always seem to be in a chaotic frenzy at Mac. I don't know if there is some chemical in the make up that gets Mac people all riled up, but even though the shop sells beauty products, I think the Mac store is anything, but attractive. read more

Mac, "stage makeup", has always been a great makeup to me, although a bit over-priced. But, when you think about it, you're make-up, if using it correctly, can last you over a year, it's really NOT THAT BAD... The service has always been pretty friendly, despite there being about 40 color-crazed women in there biting for service... It usually never takes too long, but it is always hectic, even on a Wednesday morning... I will still be wearing MAC makeup for a time to come.. I love MAC makeup. Its the brand where I can count on the shadows and lipgloss to be supreme. I tend to like to buy MAC from Nordtrom, but once in a while I like to drop by this store to get some things not available at the MAC in Nordy. It tends to be really hectic on the weekends here, but when I go on weekdays, its not bad at all. My grip is the people tend to not know what they are talking about in my experience. Maybe its because I know so much about makeup and so much about what works for me. So yeah, come here for great eyeshadows and lipgloss. What can I say? MAC has always had a special place in my heart. I have recently just gotten my makeup done here for a huge Halloween party I threw, and I wanted to look like Medusa. I had the pleasure of meeting Stephanie (an amazing artist, I must say) and my friend had her Cleopatra makeup done by Daisy, and she walked out absolutely stunning! I'd have to admit, their scheduling process is a bit disorganized, and the appointment I made weeks in advance was magically deleted from their system. Stephanie, the manager, took it upon herself to take care of me and did amazing. Honest to God, I received complements ALL night for how well my makeup was done (and stayed for 6 hours after the fact), and even during my appointment I was told I couldn't have had a better artist. She's amazing, and so is the rest of the crew here. read more

On 1/20/23 I went to the MAC Cosmetics store in Fashion Valley Mall, where I witnessed an employee by the name of "Ryan" not providing the best customer service to another customer in the store who had a lot of empty container items that wanted to participate in the BACK 2 M.A.C take back program. The things that this employee was saying to this lady was very rude and unprofessional, he embarrassed the lady, and also called her ugly and told her that he did not have time for this. Once he said that I turned and had to leave out the store because I was shocked that an employee would say something like this to a customer. I honestly wanted to return my items, because that wasn't a way to treat a loyal customers. And if this is how an employee represents MAC then I don't want to spend my money supporting this unprofessional behavior. I saw on Tik Tok that this was a trending topic and others were saying that this employee was rude and wrong for how he treated this customer and I agree. Hopefully after this review MAC will take further actions and do something about Ryan's behavior or end up losing loyal customers! I would give this store -10 stars if I could. The employees are ridiculous. My wife went in on July 18th at about 7pm and got no help. The female employee was gossiping with some other female by the exit and not working. The second male employee was busy helping another customer. In the meanwhile, we were just standing there waiting for help. After waiting 5 minutes my wife went and asked the female employee for help. That employee was bothered by her request and told her to wait. My wife went back to the register and after about another 3 minutes of waiting the female employee finally decided to come help her and the first thing that she said was: "What do you want?" She was so snobby, ridiculous, and beyond unprofessional. My wife is a professional so she did not lower herself to that level. So today I bravely ventured out in to the monsoon that was San Diego and came here as a late Valentines day present from my honey. He bought me all new make-up :) What every girl wants... I understand that a lot of the time when you enter a MAC store you usually get the catty, self absorbed sales person who thinks that their overly caked on face looks AMAZING. Today I had a good experience. Victoria helped me out. She was awesome and she came right up to me right when I walked in. Mind you, I'm no MAC slut and I will go out without make up more often than not. Today I wore very light make-up and got great service. It was raining cats and dogs so maybe that had a lot to do with it but non-the-less she was fantastic and answered all of my questions and met all of my needs. I agree with Svelte S. - go to Nordstrom. It's a hit or miss with their customer service. James was super helpful when there was practically no one in the store, yet there was a beezy who said she would be back in a minute, left to go to the back, I waited 10+ minutes, and decided that she practically disappeared off the face of the earth. 15 minute rule. I try my best to go anywhere else (I'll buy online if I know what I want or I'll go to Macy's or Nordstrom) before going to the actual MAC Cosmetics stores. I have been going to this MAC location for a number of years. I went in last Wednesday to get my makeup done as I was celebrating my birthday. As usual I was welcomed as though I was an old friend. Lila did my makeup, I had no idea what look I wanted and told her just to have fun. She was very attentive to my needs and created a more subtle look than I normally wear. At first I was a bit apprehensive as I usually go for a more bold eye look, but she nailed it. I loved the way I looked and got so many compliments from friends, and even strangers, that night on how good my makeup was. I will definitely be back. read more

Who doesn't love them some MAC makeup? That being said I love this store! Their products are always some of the best. This particular location is always well stocked and clean. The price of the products are priced well considering the quality of the products. If you are an esthetician,nail tech or cosmetologist you can apply for a pro card and get 30% off products. 40% for makeup artists. Yes it does get very busy, which is probably why the employees are walking from one end of the store to another. If you come here on a busy day (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) i would have a list of the products you want so they can easily gather them for you. If you want to play just come on another day during the week or earlier in the day. And YES you do have to wait but even when it's been madness I've never waited more then 5-10 minutes for someone to help me, or at least let me know they'll be with me in a few minutes. Have some sympathy! Imagine working at Macy's during the holidays when 15 people are asking you for 4 pairs of boots to try on all at once. That's every weekend here. This review is not about MAC products but about this location. I LOVE MAC! I do not wear a lot of makeup, but when I do decide to doll myself up on those special occasions, you cannot compete with the quality of MAC. My face always looks flawless and I love love love their stuff. Speaking of, I am getting married in a few weeks in Las Vegas which means I needed to pick up a few more essentials for those nights after when we're out with friends...the store was slammed. I'm a pretty patient person, but when I walk in and get ignored by multiple sales reps and spend 20 minutes trying to find someone to help me spend a decent amount of money...its lame. Finally one girl did actually come back to help and she was super awesome...helped me find the right shade of red lipstick and new foundation. I stopped going here about 3 years ago because of the ridiculousness. Made a huge mistake by going back today, just for some $15 eyelashes I thought. But now they're almost $20! They asked me to look on the wall and pick the ones I want which they all look ridiculously fake. So I picked the only ones that looked long and exaggerated, yet maybe real...as if thats possible. The nice lady put them on me and they're just straight, they have no curl. they look like my natural eyelashes. Keep in mind I have very long eyelashes and I don't need to buy fake ones, but if I do I want em to be nice. The lady took five minute breaks in between each step. It was like 10 times too thick Plus way Lobsided. It was a damn disgrace. My makeup artist said hold on walked away from me help a lady that walked in. I had been there 20 minutes and the lady sat behind me and kept complaining that the lady just left her standing there after asking her if she needed help. I wanted to say lady she's been with me 20 minutes and she's walked away 10 times and your it she's now helping you and I'm waiting again. The lady was very rude but I started thinking if she so mad for waiting 5 minutes this is getting out of hand I'm leaving so I left with the worst eyelashes and a waste of my money and time on never go here again. I visited Mac Cosmetics in Nordstrom's at Fashion Valley mall and had Kristen Johnson do a makeover on me and while she was doing my makeup, she taught me little tricks that I had never seen done before. She was just so knowledgable and friendly! After I looked at the final product of my makeover.. I was blown away! It was such a natural look and I felt so beautiful! I highly recommend her... This is getting 3 stars because I love the collections at MAC. Everyone knows they have great makeup, what isn't great is the service. Upon entering my friend and I were greeted by a woman who said she would help us out in a moment. She was nice. My friend and I looked at the foundations on the wall. Usually the bottle in front of the boxed up bottles are testers... Not here. We used a dab to test on our skin and a male salesman said in a super sassy way, "those are not testers. Those are live products" I sincerely apologized and he said, "the testers are over THERE" I apologized again and he just walked away. Like damn dude, nothing was labeled, I said I was sorry!! I walked in on a weekend Saturday night. My sister and I wanted to purchase a few things. We were not acknowledge at all whatsoever, they were a few other people shopping as well. The music was extremely loud and some employees were talking among each other on the other side of the counter. After like 20 mins a girl came up to us and asked if we needed help. She was very nice and helpful compared to the other snobby girls that were there. This is not my MAC Store but since I was already shopping at Fashion Valley I said might as well. We all know how great MAC make-up is and we pretty much know what we need when we go....BUT....whenever I need a new look; a make-over for an event or just want to feel pretty --- I always go in and see KRISTI. She is my now "go-to-gal". We have tried so many different make-up looks for several events ~ and I always walk out feeling amazing! This store is simply too crowded. I have been here numerous times with the intent to buy something, but just was not able to get any help. (for those who don't know, you need a MAC associate to get you your merch). MAC really has some very nice and high quality products though. Personally, I would rather go to the MAC inside the SDSU bookstore. It is never crowded and there are always like 3 or 4 people working and ready to assist you. Being that this is the only MAC Pro store in San Diego north of Downtown, it gets pretty busy in there. All the artists are helpful and friendly for the most part. There is no shortage of artists in the store itself so you don't have to wait long to actually get help. I went to the store with my friend who is a MAC artist on a stop before the airport and we were helped so quickly that we were in and out of there in 15 minutes tops! I have been coming here quite frequently to do some Christmas shopping, and some Back 2 MAC. Nothing has changed, I'm still receiving the same stellar customer service. But I have to mention an employee, and his name is Jonathan. He is my go-to at this MAC, he used to work at the MAC Counter at the Escondido Nordstrom, and I would always purchase my makeup through him. He is SO HELPFUL, and sweet! I never really go here and if I do, I never go inside. It's waaaaay too overcrowded for my taste and I find the MUAs here are never really helpful. I mainly shop in Plaza Bonita because... 1) It's closer 2) I'm a frequent buyer (I literally go here every two weeks. I buy things to restock the stuff in my makeup kit) 3) The staff recognizes me so they help me rather quickly. But I don't mind waiting around if the store gets busy. read more

I love my MAC makeup. It feels so good to buy something new from here but dammit, the service sucks like heck. Why is it that the chicks that work here think they're gracing us with their knowledge and presence? Like it's a privilege for us to talk to them? I love their products but the girls that work here need a major attitude adjustment. Hit or miss. If you come when it is busy you might be extremely unhappy. Because most likely it will take a good 15 minutes to flag someone down to get their attention even if you already know exactly what you want and just need someone to grab it for you. I'm even too scared to ask for help when it's crowded like that. However, on a weekday night when it's fairly not busy, my experience was quite pleasant. So long story short, try to come on a week day when it's not as crazy, especially if you want to try something on. I mostly prefer the MAC counter inside Nordstrom because for some reason the ladies there are a lot happier and friendlier. read more

Had the BEST experience with Carlos! He was soooo sweet and attentive and took his time to give my mom and I recommendations for our makeup needs. Carlos really was so knowledgeable and patient when it comes to explaining what certain products are for and how to best use them.
