I never write negative reviews but wow. I own a Imac and have a audio video studio. I need help migrating data from internal drive of iMac to new external SSD enclosure. Maybe even help cleaning up internal drive afterward. I tried calling for help but was told to submit my request in writing via email first. I did . Was told to schedule a consult and not given prices. I emailed them back an alternate solution and asked how much this would cost. No answer. I drive there today. I started to ask about they're services was told gruffly to stop talking and give my name. I did . She said I was talking to Alicia? I said maybe? I was then told that they don't give away they're " intellectual property" and that I had to pay for a consult to get any further info. After all " they have to pay the utility bills somehow". I was floored! Speechless! I didn't even get to find out what if any fees they charged other than the 120$ an hour consult fee? I was pleasant, and gracious and only wanting to see if they could do a service. Id rather drive to the Bay Area than get treated like that. Yikes. It tough enough being a mac user. We don't need inquisitor style torture from the only " authorized " service center. Maybe they are tired of long pointless chats about how to fix apple products. I get it. But im a legitimate pro consumer wanting to pay for a service. I wasn't asking for an extended dialogue about my issues. Must be a miserable place to work. read more

The very clever ladies who operate Mac-O-Rama saved the day! When visiting the Genius Bar at the Apple Store in Reno, a very nice but rushed young Genius offered to upgrade my 20" iMac Desktop. He asked if I had everything backed up, and - my fault - I was not sure. Rather than explain Time Machine to me, and sell me the G-drive for Time Machine, he just did the upgrade. Big mistake! I lost access to two important software programs that were not supported by the upgrade: Adobe InDesign CS3 (costly) and Audacity Recording. I make a living with desktop design/publishing and voiceover acting. Thanks to Mac-O-Rama - and $250 later!! - I now have Adobe InDesign and Audacity again. I did, however, completely lose Quicken and my bookkeeping! I am letting Apple know they need to train their Geniuses on explaining and selling more. p.s. Mac-O-Rama later told me they could restore Quicken. Hooray! Not only did they restore my Quicken program, but all the data. I'm thrilled I don't have to recreate my bookkeeping. JoAnne C. read more

We take all of our Apple system business to Mac-O-Rama. We have had numerous MacBook, iMac, iPhone and Air's over the years ( we now have 4 systems and 2 iPhones). Great service, reasonable pricing and good folks. The last improvements made to current Mac's included a memory upgrade to the iMac and a disk replacement to one of the Air's. I have used Macorama in the past and had no problems, and I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt on my recent bad experience, unfortunately my final phone call with the office manager just solidified the one star review. I took my external hard drive in because my butterfingers dropped it. I was told that they would try to do a data transfer, and that they may need to perform a data recovery, at this point I paid the $59 deposit. After a few days I received a phone call that they were able to find some files and made an appointment to come in and see if they had found everything. They were only able to get a few of the files, so I asked them to try the data recovery. After about three weeks, I called to see what the status was. The gal I spoke with said that she would leave a message for the technician to follow up (6/5). The next day (6/6) I received a phone call letting me know that they were unable to retrieve anymore data from the hard drive, and that they would put what they were able to retrieve on a new hard drive. I asked how much it would be and was told, "I don't think they will charge any more since they weren't able to get anything else. But I will double check and let you know." I received a call back a little while later stating that it would be $189 (after my deposit) for the hard drive and the service. This worked out to $159 for the service. I was surprised that the price went from $0 to $159 and I told the lady I was a bit upset by that, but that I understood that I needed to pay for their attempts. I asked if they had smaller hard drives than the 1T, since it was only a few files that they were able to get, and was told no, they only carry 1T. I asked if I could bring in a flash drive for them to put it on, and she said that unfortunately they did not do that. Without other options I told her to go ahead an have them transfer what they could. I then received another (that's 3 for those counting) phone call about 20 minutes later stating that they were out of hard drives, and I would need to wait for more to come in. Ok, no problem. The next day (6/7), after thinking about it, I was not sure if it was worth their time to transfer what little was found to a new hard drive. Since it had been so long since I looked at what was found, I called to find out if there was any way I could come in and see what was on the drive one more time and make a decision. The gentleman that I talked to said that it was not a problem, and made an appointment for me to come in the following Monday to take a look. This is when things took a turn. On 6/8 I received a phone call from someone in the front office, and I explained that I had made an appointment to look at the date before they transfer it. I told the person that I was upset with the way that things were being handled and that I was getting different information each time I spoke with someone. I then received a phone call from the office manager who told me that at this point they were not going to do anything further with the drive, and that I needed to come and pick up my hard drive. They would remove the data that they were able to retrieve from their hard drive, and basically they were not going to provide any further service. I explained that I fully understand that they need to be paid for their services, and only wanted to check one last time on what they were able to recover to see if it was worth it. She stated that they do not do that, as they are in business to make money. If that was a problem, the person that made me the appointment should have told me that they do not allow you to look at it more than the one time. She said to me that if I did not understand the process I should have asked more questions, and was very rude and condescending. When I picked up the hard drive they returned it to me in pieces and recommended I send it to a place in the Bay Area that does data recovery for NASA. I took it to an independent contractor here in Reno, and wouldn't you know it, he told me that the hard drive had been wiped clean. No data to recover, not even the pictures they originally found. I called Macorama one last time to find out how this could be, and asked to speak with the manager. Again she was very rude on the phone, talking over me, not listening to my concerns, saying that it was my fault for not understanding the process. All I wanted was for her to acknowledge that their communications with me should have been better, and explain how it could be that the data was no longer there, because yes, she is right, I am not a computer expert. That is why I brought it to them in the first place. Sorry for such a long story, but it all ties in to why I gave such a poor review. I little kindness goes a long way, and had the manager not behaved in such a poor manner today, I was just going to let it all go. read more

I am rating this Mac shop by other reviews - they looked good so I called ahead then stopped in at Mac O Rama to seek service on my mac. There was no one at all at the front desk. I waited for a little while and no one showed up and there was no bell or ringer to let anyone know that I was there. I left after a while of waiting. I called back to talk with someone and I was informed that there was not enough staff for someone to man the front desk. That made me uncomfortable. read more

Don't waste your time coming here for repairs on your computer. They overcharge for everything and the customer service is awful. I asked for an itemized bill after they took my $59.00, and they refused to give me one. The sales clerk said that she never had a customer question her about the bill. She also said that I was making her uncomfortable because I did not TRUST her. When I explained that this was a business transaction and I simply wanted a detailed description of the charges she told me to leave. I had to demand a refund of my deposit and call my bank to confirm it. I went to The Computer Guy and got a much better price and excellent customer service. Rating is subzero but there aren't any stars for that. read more

I recently had to replace a Mac HD and needed a new SATA cable assembly. I was told by the MAC store to go to Mac-O-Rama to get the new replacement. The tech and front counter were so arrogant and told me I had no idea what I was talking about and then they said they had the part but would not sell it to me. I would never recommend this store to anyone. I have been working on computers for almost 15 years now and have never been treated like this. I had to purchase the part from an online company and replaced the part and everything worked fine. read more

While they may be better than the Apple store, as some may say (though I'm not sure about that) they do fall short on helping the individual who wants to buy parts to repair an Apple machines on their own. They can not sell a person Apple parts, because of a contract with Apple, thus they are limited to acquiring the parts for you and then doing the repairs in house. If one wants to do repairs for out of warrantee Apple computers (or if your gutsy enough on in-warrantee computers) there are resources that will sell you Apple OEM (original equipment manufacture) parts, such as powerbookmedic.com and iFixit.com. While I applaud Mac-O-Rama as an alternative to Apple Care, I can not see paying $$$$$ for opening a Mac and replacing a part. To much of Apples mystique is convincing the consumer that they have to have a Mac expert to do repairs. They can be done by the consumer - just ask any kid in high school who works on PC's - it doesn't take a "Mac Genius" (sic) to work on a Mac. read more

Quick and simple: If your Mac is under warrantee, go to the Apple Store. If not, don't waste your time and go directly to Mac-O-Rama. Their job is to get your machine up and running, the Apple Store's job is to sell you new stuff. read more

I'm not great about writing reviews but am taking the time with Mac-O-Rama because they deserve the high praise. As a small business owner it was beyond inconvenient that my brand new MacPro should go dark mid-work week. After several hours researching possible troubleshoots online and speaking with Apple Support it was determined that I'd have to travel to Reno from Tahoe (where I was visiting) mid-week and attempt a walk-in at the Apple Genius Bar because they couldn't schedule me for 2 days. I'm so glad tech support directed me to Mac-O-Rama as an Apple certified specialist because I had as good an experience as possible when the work week was blown. Brought it in on a Wednesday, they explained everything thoroughly, and as I needed a new external hard drive anyway I was appreciative for the data transfer. Normally I'd do that myself but I didn't have the time. The laptop needed a new motherboard and they had it back 2 days later and confirmed everything was in working order and all data was secured. In addition I had a really pleasant face to face experience and conversation with staff. It was MUCH more pleasant that killing 5 hours waiting for a possible walk in appointment at the Apple Store. read more

It was a great ride while it lasted. I used to always love these guys and would often take my personal Apple products to them as well as recommend them to who would need it. Lately, I have noticed that either for a lack of motivation or bad moral, their quality has slipped passed unacceptable. I took my trusty MacBook Pro in to them for erratic performance and they could not find the issue and were really arrogant about the whole situation. i immediately picked up my computer from this useless "diagnostics" and went to Apple. Not only did they find the issue quickly, but they also discovered where Mac-O-Rama had damaged my laptop's battery supports, Hard Drive Ribbon Cable as well as nearly completely strip most of the bottom screws. Apple Fixed the functionality issues and I just shrugged the experience with Mac-O-Rama as well as the damage caused to my laptop as a bad day incident. Fast forward 2 months and due to needing to recover lost performance out of my laptop, I went ahead and began upgrading it with an SSD. Running into the screws that Mac-O-Rama had stripped before, I decided to find and replace them all. I went in with every and all intention to PURCHASE a new set of screws for my unit, stating those intentions very clearly. I was pretty much shot down and told that i " was just a freeloader and they would not even order me the screws no matter what" The Apple store was more than willing to sell me a new set of screws no questions asked! They at one point offered to give me the screws under my Applecare warranty but since i did not have my unit, I was more than happy to pay for them. With this, I have forever decided never to return to Mac-O-Rama as well as not recommend them to anybody. The Apple Store is the best way to go. I also on occasion use Core Care in Sacramento when i'm in the Sacramento area for any warranty service on my products when the apple store is unavailable. Such a shame to see a once great, local company go down in the dumps. read more

This company is a complete scam center, they had me pay for parts and labor on a bunch of things my computer DID NOT NEED and computer still didn't work. After I gave them a bunch of money to replace the hard drive, DDR cable, brackets, RAM, computer still didn't work. One of their techs came out, looked at the computer for 20 seconds and said "that's a junker, the logic board is bad..." ARE YOU SERIOUS! These scam artists had me dump a ton of money into something they knew was a lemon. Then owner tells me "you must have put a powerful magnet on your laptop last night, because it was fine yesterday". TOTAL SCAM, DO NOT GO TO THIS SCAM OF A BUSINESS. read more

I awoke New Year's Day to a computer that wouldn't open, along with a clicking hard drive. We live rurally and Reno is our nearest full service community, so my boyfriend took my iMac to the Apple Store on his way to north. The Genius Bar said the hard drive was bad and that they wouldn't be able to fix it for weeks. They recommended Mac O'Rama, so we took it there. We ordered a rush job, which returned my computer to me in a week, excluding shipping, which was reasonable. What was not reasonable was the fact that my iMac was returned to me with the first iteration of Yosemite (10.10.1) and not El Capitan (10.11.2) that I'd been running. None of my Microsoft for Mac products were working, either. I made an initial call regarding the Microsoft software, and the woman who answered the phone told me that the Microsoft products were purchased with the hard drive and that they went away when my hard drive did. I knew she was wrong, as I'd had a hard drive crash before, but wanted to consult with my boyfriend before moving forward with any complaints. Essentially, I had to pack my computer up yet again and take it to my boyfriend's house, where he spent a few hours fixing and updating the software on my computer to a place comparable to when my hard drive died. I then placed another call to Mac O'Rama regarding these issues, including the fact that they never gave any indication whether any material was accessible off of my HD, as the woman I spoke with in the initial aftermath of the work told me it would have been had I paid another $400. The man I spoke with, Joshua I believe, was nice and seemed knowledgeable, but was unapologetic regarding the outdated operating system. He did say that the woman I spoke to, an elderly relative, as this is a family business, was mistaken regarding the Microsoft software, but as most people lose their program key, some do need to repurchase these programs (and she tried to sell me a 460 app that saves the keys). He also said she was mistaken regarding accessing anything off my HD, which didn't make me happy but at least let me know my status. Great for the info, but it still left me and my boyfriend doing the work to get my computer up to par. If we were local, we likely could have brought my computer back in, which still would have been a hassle and which would have deprived me of my computer for additional time, for work that should have been done in the first place. Sloppy. Just really sloppy and unprofessional. They also did not include a receipt with my returned computer, requiring me to call yet again to request an e-mailed copy. Joshua agreed to a partial refund, but as of ten days later, it isn't showing up on my credit card. Grrrr.....Not recommended. I've had significantly better service and product from other computer shops. This would have been a two star review had my money refunded on time (and to note, I did not ask for a total refund, just a partial on the labor, to which Joshua agreed), but instead, they get one star from me. read more
