Macado's offers good food at a decent price. I've ate many things from there and they are consistent with their quality. However, their service is fairly poor. I've found myself waiting 20 minutes for an order of tortilla chips and salsa. When the food does arrive it has always been good. I believe in giving people chances but the last three times I have been to this restaurant it has been horrible. The first time our waitress was sitting on a guys lap on the booth behind us our whole meal. The second time our food was completely wrong and this last time we ordered a salad an appetizer and two sandwiches. Even after the waitress asked if we wanted our appetizer as an appetizer, we got our sandwiches and salad together then literally 2 mins later our appetizer came to the table. No dressing for the salad. Our salad was warm and sandwiches cold by the time we could actually eat. But our appetizer that came after our meal was delicious lol. I love Macado's and will not write a terrible review of their atmosphere or food. The waitress we had on Friday, well that is a different story. This particular restaurant is so much fun to go to, they have two stories and it's in an old post office. There are so many fun things to look at all around the restaurant. This past Friday we went to our favorite Macado's and got the worst service. We arrived, were seated, and next to us another family was seated. Their server came and took their drink order a few minutes before our waitress got to us, but that wasn't a big deal. We ordered our drinks and appetizers, it took about 10 minutes to get our drinks, which we figured the wait was because my husband ordered a bar drink and our daughter ordered a milkshake. Our appetizers took another 10 minutes after we got our drinks, we ordered these with our drinks so 20 minutes to get our appetizers was kind of a long wait. When our appetizers finally arrived, the people next to us got their dinner. Little did we know, we were in for another 45 minute wait for our dinner. After being there for an hour, we had drinks and appetizers and the people next to us were finished eating and getting ready to leave. We flagged down our waitress and explained that we had been there for an hour and we were wondering what the problem was with getting our dinner. Amazingly our food arrived 10 minutes later. Dinner was delicious, I love the food here, the service we received was just terrible on this particular night. We asked to speak to a manager, she said he was not around but she would comp the milkshake. I did not leave a tip, but because I love the food we will be back. I've eaten at multiple Macado's restaurants, and have, sadly, found them all to be quite disappointing. However, my last visit to the Macado's in Galax was more frustrating than anything. To begin, my boyfriend and I both ordered drinks and waited more than 15 minutes to receive them. When our potato skins appetizer arrived, our waitress dropped off the dish without any plates or silverware. She quickly scurried off and we could not find her again, so my boyfriend walked to the bar to retrieve these items. When our entrees appeared, we ordered a 2nd round of drinks for fear she would not return. Sadly, we did not get those drinks until we were almost finished with our meals. In fact, we had to flag down a different server to actually get them. After the meal, we decided we might order some dessert and my boyfriend considered another drink. However, we did not see server again until 20+ minutes after we finished our meals. We were so frustrated that we considered walking out without paying, especially since it was beginning to look as though we may never get our check. By the time our server returned, we gave up on dessert, paid the bill, and quickly left in frustration. read more

I just went to Macado's in Galax VA. It used to be hopping at lunch and was surprised to see it nearly empty at 12:15pm. This should be the lunch rush. The waitress Natasha C showed up right away and took our drink orders, which was good. We asked about the specials and decided on Burgers and fries. Most people only have 1 hour for lunch, it took so long for our lunch to get to us we had to ask for it to go. My daughter had to leave before the food got to us. When I got to the car I figured I could eat a few fries while driving and was very upset that they were cold. The girl had blamed it on the new cook. It seemed to me it would be her fault for not bringing the food warm. I wonder just how long it sat out? I'm guessing the reason they have lost most of their customers is because the employees do not expedite the food in a timely manner. I have worked as a manager in fast food before and you MUST make sure the food is made correctly and served warm. Mine and my daughters burgers were burnt and the fries were cold. Stay away from Macados!!!! I'll explain why, but before I start I want to let everyone know that I live two blocks from Macados, so I frequent the restaurant fairly often. Usually at least 1-2 times a week, sometimes more. I have always loved the service until last night. Yesterday around 6 I went to Macados with a friend of mine. We were waiting on a couple of people to join us so we were not ordering food when we first arrived. My friend and I both ordered a drink, then a second a little while later. We were asked a couple of times if we were going to order food. Each time we said not yet, we're waiting on some people to join us. My friend ordered a third drink and we both asked for a water. I ordered a third drink a few minutes later and at the same time my friend ordered a fourth drink. We were once again asked if we wanted to order food, to which we responded the same as we had before. We had been there for about an hour at this point. When the rest of our group got there I ordered a fourth drink. I was told by he bar tender that I would need to order food before they would allow me to order another drink. So I did. When they brought my food and drink I thanked the bar tender and started eating my food. I had ordered a vodka cranberry. When I took a sip of my drink I immediately knew there was nothing but cranberry juice in the glass. I took my drink up to the bar and politely asked the bar tender if she could make me a new drink because they did not give me what I had ordered. She said she didn't make the drink so she would check with the other bar tender. She walked into the kitchen. When she returned she then said she would bring it over to me in a minute. I told her I would just wait there. She went into the kitchen and when she returned she told me she couldn't serve me another drink. I then asked to speak with her manager. This is where it gets interesting. Up to this point I had been nothing but polite and respectful to both bar tenders. Please keep in mind that no one else in the group of people that I was with had been "cut off" and some of them had not only had more to drink than I did, but they also hadn't ordered any food. I had also run into another friend who was sitting at the table behind us. They were served at least 6-7 drinks and not once were they told they had to order food or that they couldn't order another drink. So, the manager of Macados, I don't know her name, came over and said what seems to be the problem? I told her that I had apparently been "cut off" and I would just like someone to explain what the issue or reasoning was. She immediately got an attitude with me and told me that I had had 6 drinks and that I had obviously had too much to drink because I was being Passive agressive. Once again, I want to say this entire time I was being polite and respectful to everyone involved. I did not once raise my voice or say/do anything that could have been interpreted as rude or disrespectful. I simply wanted and explanation and I wanted to express to them that if they think I should be cut off then that's fine. I know they have to make that judgement call and it's their responsibility if something happens to someone after leaving their restaurant. The biggest issue I had was that they were trying to trick me by bring me just cranberry juice when I ordered a vodka cranberry and force me to pay for something I hadn't been given. I didn't get the chance to voice any of this. I couldn't finish one sentence. The manager just kept interrupting me. She told me that she had a psychology degree and it was very obvious to her that I was being passive aggressive and to her that meant I had entirely too much to drink. She was the only person being rude and belligerent. I remained calm and respectful the entire time. She told me that I had been served 6 drinks and that I was going to pay for all of them or she would have me arrested for theft. I told her to go ahead and call the police and I walked out of the restaurant to make a phone call to my mother so she wouldn't be caught off guard if the police were actually called. (She works at the court house so she knows a lot of the police officers pretty well) When I came back inside my boyfriend had already paid both of our tabs and the manager was nowhere to be seen. He said she was very rude and argumentative to him as well. I asked for a water and everyone in my group of friends closed out their tabs. We stayed and hung out for a while longer because more of our friends had shown up. The rest of the evening was uneventful. We stayed for maybe 30 minutes and then left. I have never been treated so badly by someone in the service industry in my life. I am a 27 year old responsible adult and she treated me like an unruly child. I will be contacting the corporate office to inform them of last night's events and file a formal complaint. read more

Macado's is great for a few reasons. I love the historical aspect that it is located in the old Galax post office in the heart of downtown. It's one of the larger restaurants in Galax and has fun décor. And a big plus is it actually has a bar, which there are not many of in Galax. It may not be the most well-stocked bar, but they actually have a nice table/sitting area and it tends to be the go to whenever we are in town for a visit. They do offer a large variety of yummy sandwiches, appetizers and desserts. The service can be hit or miss though. The fact is it can be tough to be a waitress in Galax, and other small towns. Some (not all) patrons tend to only tip a couple dollars regardless of how much the bill is, no matter how great their service is. And since wait staff are paid below minimum wage with the expectation that they'll earn the rest in tips they can burn out quickly as there is no cash incentive to work harder. But for the most part the service I have received there has been good, bartenders are friendly, and I really do enjoy the food so it keeps me coming back! read more
