I saw that they had açaí bowls and that sounded so good so we made the short walk from our hotel. I chose the biggest bowl with the most toppings. Love that scoop of peanut butter in the middle of everything. Everything was fresh. There was ample açaí. I was definitely full when I left the restaurant. You have to ring the doorbell to enter. There are plenty of tables for a small breakfast shop. Music could have been a little softer. Hard to talk which seems odd for breakfast. You order and pay at the counter and the bring food to you. They advertise smoothies but they were not available. Açaí bowls are fantastic. I got a large latte but it was served in a rather tiny cup. Not sure how their sizes work. read more

You have to be kidding me! Definitely got ripped off here. Somehow one order of $12 breakfast tacos and two $6.50 coffees came out to $33. Payment has to be via Venmo and you don't get a receipt, of course. Don't get me wrong, I intentionally try to support local businesses, but not those that go out of their way to rip you off. We stayed in Miramar for a week and were repeatedly told this was a good/safe area. We never experienced anything negative, but there are of course abandoned properties right next to seemingly beautifully renovated/repaired dwellings. I say all of this...because the front door is locked and they have to let you in. Sad reality I suppose? The interior is small, but so clean, bright, and efficient. We both had huevos rancheros and they were yummy. It is counter ordering and delivered to your table. We also ordered smoothies. The hulk and the greeny (I think). Each really lacked any flavor and were more ice texture than smooth. However, no mimosas (etc) which we enjoy on the weekends. The paper plates and plasticware surprised me since the 'smoothies' were in glass. The mother of the owner and another woman were both very friendly and attentive. The sound system played great 80's hits so that was fun. They don't accept cards, just cash/venmo, etc. Overall it's a nice neighborhood place to grab a quick bite. read more

Macchiato is about a 10minute walk from the convention center and is the perfect coffee shop to get a break from conferencing and have a delicious coffee and breakfast in a local spot. Walked to this little coffee shop from my hotel in the T-Mobile convention center area. It's about a 10 minute walk. Wanted a deli sandwich for lunch and this place came up as the closest. It's nestled in a neighborhood in San Juan, and you have to be "buzzed" in. The interior is small, but very clean. I ordered the Grand Slam sandwich and an açaí bowl. Both were very good. With tip I paid about $26 for my meal which also included a Coke to drink. The only drawback was this place is Cash only and accept Venmo or PayPal. This place is amazing, truly a gem. The owner was extremely hospitable and walked through the favorites, recommendations, and answered any questions we had. We ordered Huevos Rancheros (without tomato salsa bc of an allergy) and the French Toast combo. We also ordered the house special coffee, Cafe Espectáculo (the show). Everything was fresh, flavorful and delicious. I would recommend it 10 out of 10 times. The owner also provided us with lots of things to do around the island - not just the typical tourist activities either. On first impression, the staff arrived late to open. The interior of the place was filthy. The coffee cold and gross. The food took 40 minutes for a few breakfast items despite being the first customers there. When the food (to go order) did arrive it was littered with hair and they forgot an açaí bowl. We took a walk from our hotel in the Condado area to Macchiatos & upon walking In we were pleasantly surprised by the charm & ambiance of the place. It's quaint decore mixed with a rustic Bodicua charm. As cool & inviting as the ambiance it was the delicious aroma of the food that made our mouth water. The aroma of the freshly brewed coffee was equally wonderful. And of course, the breakfast did not disappoint & was the best part of this charming spot. We had the French toast & the everything Omelet. Simply delicious! The host was very inviting & made us feel welcomed. Not only did he recommend some highlights of the menu he also gave us some cool point of interests that he recommended us visiting during our stay. It was these minor touches that exceeded our expectations about Macchiatos. It's a must visit anytime I'm back in Puerto Rico. Can't recommend this delightful breakfast spot enough!! We ordered 2 sandwiches, avocado toast, 2 smoothies and a chicken taco. We got 2 avocado toast, 2 smoothies with no lids, egg tacos!?, no sandwiches. We attempted to explain this to the owner and he refused to acknowledge what we had in front of him. It was as if we were in the teilight zone. We left without the right order. #40 for 2018 Rafa is an excellent host for being the sole proprietor of this neighborhood coffee shop. He picked up we were not local offering advice and possible destinations. Just what I needed. The cafe is divded into 3 sections. The front is like an enclosed porch with some visibility to outside. People like to sit here with friends to talk. The middle section is where Rafa works. He takes your order, preps and serves the food to you. The condiment table is in the back. The third room is the dining area. It's not very big but good for a couple parties of 4. I started with the macchiatto, a small cup of caffeine. It is made the old traditional way. Rafa has mastered this that's what keeps his regulars coming back. Wish I could have one now. I wasn't really hungry after having a heavy dinner. So, I got the stuffed french toast with strawberries and cream. Rafa told me he and his friend came up with recipe for the bread. His friend guards the secret making the bread daily for the 2 of them. What makes this bread special is it is able to absorb the egg easily. So you can't let it sit long. This translates to a shorter cooking time. You could taste the egg still. I came back another morning to try the main dish. Huevos Ranchero their signature dish. Let me just say this. It was so good I ordered another one. I did. I shouldn't have. Now I was stuffed.
