4.75 stars There aren't too many cafés in NJ that specialize in Matcha, so I was so excited when I discovered Machapresso on instagram. The baristas were nice and friendly. Location: Wicks Shopping Plaza next to Le Peep off of Rt. 1 in Edison Parking: Parking lot can get busy throughout the day, but people come and go so it's not too bad. They're open every day from 10AM to 9 PM. The café has a good amount of seating and tables. The decor is modern, open, airy, and zen. They have two kiosks where you can self order to save time, especially if it's busy. They serve different levels of matcha gelato, matcha affogato, tarts, and Basque cheesecakes. Their black sesame basque cheesecake is my favorite! I have to try their gelato for my next visit. They have various Matcha drinks on the menu, espresso, and Hojicha which has less caffeine than matcha and coffee. I've been here twice and the first time I had their Biscoff cookie Hojicha latte with pistachio milk. It was so delicious! Definitely sweet, but I so I will ask for just one pump of the syrup next time. I think Hojicha pairs better with the Biscoff cookie instead of Matcha. I ordered my husband, an espresso, Matcha latte, but it was definitely way too much caffeine for him. On my most recent visit, I ordered the banana pudding Matcha latte with oat milk. I also upgraded to a premium Matcha, but sadly, I can't remember the name of it! It was really delicious, but a bit too sweet for me. It can be tricky to find the perfect balance of sweetness and umami, but as long as I can taste the Matcha, and the drink is good, I'm happy. The cheesecake is a lovely treat. Thick, but soft, not too sweet. Yum! Unfortunately, they no longer allow reusable cups. Even Starbucks and Dunkin offer a discount and allow personal cups. There's too much waste created by plastic that could easily be avoided. But I digress. I will happily return as this location is close to me and I'm looking forward to trying some of their other seasonal drink drinks. If you're new to Matcha, you should definitely try one of their syrup drinks, or a classic matcha latte. read more

No more going to NYC for matcha spots! Machapresso now has locations in Closter and Edison, NJ, serving four levels of matcha ranging from the sweetest to the most bitter--and you can actually tell the difference by the color! The Edison location is in the same shopping center as 99 Ranch Market and Sunmerry Café, but it's on the other end of the plaza, which can feel a little sketchy at times. Inside, there's plenty of natural lighting, making it a great spot to study, work, or hang out with friends. I also love the modern, open-concept interior and the natural-light design! Service was great, and the matcha drinks and other matcha items I tried all tasted great. Definitely a great NJ option if you're looking for quality matcha without having to go into NYC. Next time, I'm definitely going to try more from their menu! read more

I absolutely love everything about this place. It's honestly hard to come by authentic and good quality Matcha. Most of the time I end up making it at home because places don't serve it at the quality that I usually get. The quality of this Matcha is insane and they have so many different varieties of it as well as different drink types, such as Matcha with fruits or lemonade. They also have different Matcha ice cream creams! I will definitely be back for the Matcha ice cream. This place was packed so be aware of limited seating. They do have an abundance of seating. It is just very popular! The staff was so great and helpful and describing each variety of Matcha and what their recommendations are as well! read more

I stopped in to get some treats and when I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and the place was really cute. I went to the nice young lady and ordered: Ube and Genmaicha Gelato Ube Matcha Latte Biscoff Hojicha Latte Matcha Basque Cheesecake Strawberry Lemonade If you are a matcha lover you would love this place! Machapresso might be one of the best matcha spots I've tried in NJ. The drinks are well made and not overly sweet. Hojicha float was excellent, and the ube matcha latte had a really smooth flavor combination. The matcha parfait was fun and packed with toppings like mochi, red bean, strawberries, and sea salt cream. Nice touch that you can choose how strong you want the matcha ice cream. Space is spacious and nicely designed, good for hanging out or working. Weekends can get busy, but understandable. read more

Food So I came here to get a Matcha latte and they end up having gelato with 12 different flavors and you can sample them all they're unlimited flavors. My favorite was the black sesame and the Ube. There's four levels of Matcha from level one to level five and it goes from the sweetest to the most bitter Matcha flavor the drink I'm starting with today is the Biscoff Matcha latte which is the new featured lotte for this month and I also wanna try the strawberry Matcha cloud with the strawberry coconut water, cold foam and a Ube Matcha next. Service, the staff is very accommodating and welcoming to try all the gelato flavors and give good recommendations Ambience there is a high top table in the back that you could do work, but I don't see any outlets except on the walls but it's a nice café. They do have loud DJ Reggaeton music playing so I don't know if you could do work in here. read more

I had been meaning to go to this place and I really enjoyed it! I finally decided to go and it did not disappoint! It is a little bit on the pricier side but I don't mind paying for high quality! I loved the interior of the store and its somewhere you can study or go to chat! The service was good and they let me taste the ice cream flavors I think the Matcha LVL3 is very deep and rich. The ube is also very rich in flavor and was such a good pairing with the matcha ice cream! Will definitely be back. read more

If you are a matcha lover, you need to come to Matchapresso. The atmosphere inside is very clean and gives off that cool, mid-century modern aesthetic. The workers are super nice, even offering samples of the ice cream they have on hand while I was waiting. They have so many different options for matchas where you can adjust the type of sweetness you want from flavors while also substituting your milk. They have this kind of affogato drink, but instead of it being espresso and ice cream, they have matcha and ice cream. And the best part is that they have matcha-flavored ice cream with different intensities! They also have black sesame ice cream, which is one of my favorites. You can either order at the counter or use the iPads they have, which will show you their entire menu. I believe they have food as well as other drinks like hojicha, other teas, and coffee. While returning my Verizon equipment, the signage, Machapresso caught my eye. Oooh new matcha shop! I almost let out a yelp. The interior is aesthetically pleasing with a very Japanese vibe. Love all the decor and matcha green color scheme. Order at one of the two kiosks. It was hard to pick because all the drinks sound bomb. I decided to go with the Strawberry Matcha and my friend went with the Cloudy Hojicha Latte. There are alternative milk choices for $1 extra. You can choose the sugar level with 1, 2, or 3 pumps. They will call your name out when it is ready. As soon as I saw the dark green matcha color, I knew it would be legit. The drinks were a solid 10/10! I could taste the bitterness from the matcha (which is how I like it). Both the hojicha and matcha flavor came through equally in my friend's drink. He let me take a sip first. So frickin good. They also specialize in gelato. I visited on their soft-opening phase. Machapresso is now in my top 4 matcha spots in Central Jersey. read more

Visited for the first time here after a few months after their opening hoping they can get it together lol. I had ordered the coconut water strawberry matcha. It was okay, mediocre to say the least. It was a bit expensive, city prices to be exact. I wanted a latte but it costs $1 for alternative milk. It's 2026, why are we charging extra for alternative milk, even Starbucks and Dunkins don't charge for other milk. I would probably try this spot again but it's nothing I'd drink from often. read more

I am so glad they have this near me. I had a chance to visit today and it was everything. A matcha girl here and a cafe girl so I was throughly excited. The aesthetic such a vibe and calming. There is seating in the front and back, Everyone was really nice, you can order at the kiosk or at the counter. Although it was somewhat crowded they were still eager to assist. I ordered the matcha float with Ube and let's just say I wanted another. I wish this location much success and I predict I will be back very soon like tomorrow . A must try. read more

I'm excited to see a more specialized matcha spot open up around this area, but so far think their drinks are just alright. I don't think the matcha is strong enough (either a matcha quality issue or they don't add enough matcha to their drinks) and the standard milk option seems to dilute a lot of the flavor. My friend's hojicha with pistachio milk was a lot better though, so maybe I'll give it another try after they get past the grand opening stage. Service was efficient and friendly. read more

Drink: I wanted to really like their matcha drinks. I hope they can do better because matcha drinks are more consistently created at the Closter location. I tried the Edison location soft opening day and while the matcha was a bit patchy look wise/unevenly mix wise, I just shrugged it off to the opening day. I went a second time to try the cold matcha strawberry latte, and again my matcha was not whisked that well. I cannot get a consistent flavor as a result from the blotchy patches of matcha in the unevenly mixed slurry. I want to say the strawberry jam needs to be changed too. It is really sweet and a bit artificial tasting. The jam strawberry is too viscous too and gets stuck blocking the straw when trying to drink. The uneven matcha ultimately gets stuck in the ice cubes of the drink, so consider lowering the amount of ice too... Employees: The employees are nice and eager to please. I understand it's the second week from opening, but for the manager please seriously consider being there to ensure the whisking part. It's a different employee each time creating my drink. It's worth it for you to be there everyday for the rest of the month. Also, there is no shame in investing in an electronic whisker. Gelato: The matcha gelato is very good. The strongest flavor has a deep matcha taste that you would be hard pressed to find in the rest of the state. read more

I really enjoy the matcha drinks (only based off 3 different items so far). I tried the matcha latte which currently is my go-to (2 simple syrup pumps and with midori shizuoka matcha). I also tried the cloud latte, but I found that to be too foamy for my taste towards the end/bottom of the drink. Also from initial impressions, the midori shizuoka gave me a great caffeine boost, whereas the kaiyo classic didn't seem to get me over the afternoon slump. I'll have to test them some more later, but it seems to me at least, the midori shizuoka has more caffeine. There are also other matcha options, but those cost extra. Anything besides the usual milk costs extra too. I DID NOT enjoy the matcha yuzu lemonade at all. I'm not sure if it's a niche thing, but to me it tasted like grass + selzter + a little hint of citrus. I doublechecked the online ordering options, and there wasn't any sweet configurations available which I thought was weird as my drink did not really taste much sweetness. It was my first time ordering something like this from anywhere, so maybe my expectations were off. I thought it'd have more lemonade sweetness or something, but it wasn't really sweet at all. The environment is really nice, and you see them whisk the matcha at the table counter which is nice to watch (as long as there's no long crowd waiting on orders). They also let you sample some gelato. I'm not at the level to taste how good the matcha quality is yet, but I definitely prefer this over dunkin or timmy's, though there is a price difference here. read more

The place is beautiful however the matcha latte was just okay + the person working the front counter was not friendly.

everything looked really nice, and inside looked beautiful and everyone seemed to be having a good time but, there was no real place for a wheelchair user to be at a table and the space was very cramped for a wheelchair too. consider a handicap marked table for sure so people can wheel their chairs there and ask to sit there for accessibility. read more

My girlfriend and I attempted to check this place out after passing it and hearing about it for some time, we love trying local spots! The place is decorated very well, I'd say the atmosphere they want is almost there - this doesn't mean it's doing great. I can understand computer or terminal issues but to make people wait even after and instructing your employees to finish other customers orders before ours, it felt personal and I honestly do not know what I could've done in the interaction of asking where our 20 minute ticket time order went. However this must've been something, as the manager started explaining the computer error, I can sympathize, but following this, they still handed out more and more people's items even offering free items to people in between our order. Finally, after almost a grueling 30 minutes of my life wasted away in a try hard cafe, my girlfriend's order comes up! Without my drink, and somehow it gets lost even after this! It took someone standing in front of them to have them finally make a simple beverage as we love trying the base item and moving up. I don't know what to say other than I'm not coming back. No offers for concessions, mediocre product, and blatant disrespect, that's what you can expect. read more
