The tacos are some of the better in town and the tequila list is extensive. Prime location across from union station, so a great spot to grab some food or drink while exploring Denver. Can be busy at times due to the popularity, though it's entirely worth the wait. COVID Quarantine Pickup Update: Wow, so my opinion on Machette has changed with the recent multiple pickup orders that we have made recently. The tacos and especially the quesadillas have been excellent! I have especially enjoyed the Arrachera and the Tinga. Also, as before the queso fundido is delicious. Anyway, haven't had any of their to go margaritas (which was a bit point of downgrade initially) as I've been enjoying making my own at home lately, but I'll be sure to reevaluate Machette on this point in the near future. Anyway, thanks a ton to the Machette crew for hanging in there and making some delicious Mexican cuisine! Stay safe and sane folks! Ok, but in my opinion quite a bit overrated on Yelp. The tacos are pretty tasty, but no included salsas is a negative for a Denver Mexican restaurant (a simple green and red salsa or even bottle option would be a plus. The flavor profiles were quite good though for the halibut, hanger steak, and al pastor. The standout was the campechano. Another area for improvement would be giving the option of corn vs flour tortillas. I think the tacos are also a bit overpriced at around $4/taco as the cheapest option. I'll gladly pay that for some world class tacos, these however were not in that category. The real negative in my opinion was the overpriced and underwhelming margaritas. $11-12 a margarita should be pretty solid, these were just ok (we had the Machete, Spicy Rico, and the Blood Orange (this was my favorite of the 3)). The queso fundido was pretty tasty and I would order this again. Service was friendly but not very attentive. Machetes as far as tacos is probably close to my favorite in Denver!!! They are a little overpriced, however are pretty big and well served, my absolute favorite is the campechano! This place also has the best Margaritas, super strong and a pretty good size to justify the price. The vibe is edgy and cool, perfect for a date night, or just a cool place to hang out with friends. The service was great, very attentive staff, checking on you often. They have outdoor seating due to Covid overlooking Union station! The only disappointing part of my visit and very surprising, is how they are not enforcing the mask policy! Sure, they have signs, but the amount of people roaming around with no mask was insane! ( to and from bathroom) etc. In all the restaurants I have visited, including the other 2 Machete locations, this was by far the one with more people wearing no masks. Completely love this place!!!! The chips and salsa are so good. I love the water in the bottle and all the unique painting on the walls. The cage of tequila is so awesome and makes you want to just order one of each. The wait staff has always been super nice. We went to the location downtown and wonderful gps couldn't find it. I call and the lady was so awesome to give walking directions and even stood outside and waved so we knew where to go. The tacos!!! All I can say is OMG!!!! We get the dozen option and stuff ourself stupid. We couldn't finish and brought home a couple....still so good reheated. I don't think this place knows bad food. When we told our waitress she said "I think it's just nice outside and he probably just wants to come hang out" and didn't even notify her manager. So we ended up calling the manager over ourselves and he made it somewhat right by removing our food from our tab. A few months ago, I asked for the patio and they denied, supposedly because it was closed, when the people behind me (white) asked for the patio. Of course, they got the patio. I really enjoyed the food here and to be honest was really excited to try these tacos. I had heard several good things about Machete and had highly anticipated this first visit. The food itself looked good and well put together. While I do understand that rent is more in this area, chips and salsa should be free and just on the table when you arrive. This would have helped to offset the terrible service and time it took to get our tacos. Between the 4 of us we had 9 tacos which should never take that long to make yet it took close to an hour and the place was not that busy. Our server Mani forgot us several times and because he kept disappearing, I chose not to order drinks and clog up whatever chance there was for us to actual eat and get out the door. The food itself is great and I loved their take on Al Pastor with halibut and their salsas that were on the tacos. I was disappointed that there was no salsa on the side, no salsa to order, nada. I asked for some salsa and they brought me  a bottle of Valentina. I have that at home so I was really not pleased that they did not bring something fresh that they made in house. As I am writing this review, I keep moving the stars down as it dawned on me that I have given the food way too much credit when the service was poor and the food portions themselves were lacking. When you pay $4-5 a taco, you should get double tortilla and more meat or some sort of side. The taco looked good on the large plate yet, it was gone in 2 bites. The food here is always amazing! We came on a Wednesday night, street parking in this area is always a gamble but there's usually spots on the other side of union and you can just walk over. It was really loud but that is typical for restaurants downtown. Food came out quick and the original margs were really good! It started off by my waitress being the sweetest thing I have ever met in my life. Her voice is so soothing I literally told her she should pursue a career in voice over acting or reading audiobooks. Great place! Must try when in Denver. Here for the 4th of July. Wife and I are staying downtown and we were in search of a good Bloody Mary. Strangely enough, when searching Yelp, this place comes up. We decided to sit at the bar and order our Bloody Mary's. They were excellent! This is a tequila bar, so the drinks are made with tequila. I get the feeling that this is the sort of place might have a reputation for being beloved by tourists and folks from surrounding suburban sprawl visiting the "big city". (I don't have a good beat on Denver's culture though, so I could be WAY off.) But you know what? I don't care. I went here for happy hour before my flight (which ended up being cancelled and rescheduled for the next day, classic Delta move!) for happy hour. The tacos were cheap and great. The margaritas were cheap and great. And you know what? I pretty much NEVER drink margaritas! I decided to make an exception here because they had some stuff that looked very spicy/hot and not very sweet. I guess what I go wasn't technically a margarita because it used mezcal* instead of tequila, but it was delicious. I will definitely be back for some tacos and drinks the next time I'm in Denver! *SIDEBAR: why isn't mezcal more popular in America? Arrived around 5:15 (45 min left of happy hour) and had quickly had my drink (Tacate for $3) and order placed by 5:30. I ordered the Arrachera ($3 on HH), Pollo Rostizado ($3 HH), and Bacalo Al Pastor ($5.25 not on HH). If you have Hispanic roots, this isn't the place for you. We should have noticed the red flags right off the bat. They close 30/40 min earlier than the time they say they close. The service wasn't horrible, with the exception of the people hosting. They played electronic music and anything else they could other than Mexican music OH AND THE FOOD- trash. We ordered tacos and ate one each because of how bad they were. They made our stomachs hurt. The location of this Machete can't be beat - right across the street from Union Station. Awesome view! I love street tacos so this place is definitely somewhere I like to stop occasionally. I have tried quite a few, but really only love 2 of them. But I do love those 2 tacos (the campechano and the langosta). You have to pay for the chips and salsa, and I am not a fan of any of the 4 salsa choices. The chips are good though. I wouldn't pay the extra cost for them though. The margs are pricey but they are stronnng so I'd say they're worth the price! I haven't tried dessert here yet, but I guess I'll have to next time! I love the vibe inside and the eclectic decor.
