Meeting an old friend for lunch and Taco Tequila Whiskey in Denver was our choice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The indoor / outdoor seating on a nice day was optimal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Tacos, tacos and tacos were varied, street sized, and reasonabily priced. They also have a daily special, today was fried soft shell crab. We ordered the soft shell crab, sweet, very flavorful and a light crunch. The chipolte shrimp with onion, tomato, lemon honey drizzle, poblano was finished on the grill like a birria taco. The favor was minimal. The Taco Leon contained of generous helpings of tender ribeye, onion, roasted pablano, cotija cheese and lemon habanero salsa. The baja fish taco with pickled slaw, chipolte crema and guacamole was bland. The hungos taco with grilled cremini mushrooms, cotija cheese, creamed cilantro corn, and ancho-chili crema was not savory and I would not order again. It was our least favorite selection. The queso fundido cheese was boiling hot, flavorful and a good selection. The wait staff attitude was an issue. We requested ice and were only give once with two cubes each. The kitchen love tax of 5% was included and I feel takes customer service for granted. We asked to split the bill and were told it HAD to be halved down the middle. That was crap, other than she was to lazy to provide customer service. The food at Taco Tequila Whiskey was fair, service had an attitude, and not diner centric! One of our Friday night go-to taco joints. Nestled in the highlands this is not only great for dinner but happy hour has great deals and often when they are the most busy. Everything is yummy. Enchiladas have this tasty red sauce Carne asada fries have the right compliment of fresh fried All the sliders are great. Love the shrimp and pollo agave for sure. Bang bang shrimp is less my thing here. Paloma's are a great happy hour treat. All the tacos sing to me The churros with cajeta are a must. Service is always great. This was my favorite taco place and we've been regulars for years. However, there have been some bumps since the new owners have taken over. Most recently, we visited on a Saturday for happy hour, which is from 3-6 (according to their website) however, when we ordered, we were told that happy hour did not start until 4:00. When I showed the server the website, she checked with the manager and still came back and said yeah, we just haven't updated the website yet. We unexpectedly got free churos at the end of our visit, but I'd have rather had them honor their website...I wasn't interested in dessert. Also, you can no longer order just one quesaburria taco - you must order them as a set of 3. This is really disappointing. In addition, the food has been a little 'off' the last few times we have visited. For example, my husbands carnitas were very dry and the onion topping was different than usual. Still, this is one of my favorite places to eat but I am starting to wonder if it's worth it to keep coming back and be disappointed more often than not. read more

We tried the nachos that were on the happy hour menu and there were layers of flavors while the nachos were actually super crispy and not stale at all! So this came as a pleasant surprise! When traveling through the airport in Denver, and you have a layover, we have all aimlessly looked for a place to either have a snack, lunch or dinner. I took a gamble on this place. This place did not disappoint. I had the Carnitas taco and black beans, was seriously hesitant because there is no way you're going to get good tacos in an airport. Do yourself a favor and try this place. If you're ever lucky to be in terminal A- it's down at the end of the terminal around A18. We went last weekend with our family and had tacos, queso, and margs. Our server was super nice. The watermelon margarita sounded really good on the board but I feel like flavor wise it fell a little flat and the seasoning on the rim was weird. It wasn't just tajin, it was like tajin, salt, oregano and something else. It was strange. We got the chorizo queso with garlic to share for the table. It came out hot and bubbly. It was probably my favorite part of the meal. It was melty, it was yummy, it was crispy from the little cast iron pan and the garlic addition was perfect. It had a little heat but not bad. Everyone at the table got the queso a la plancha taco and I was disappointed with this one. It came in two corn tortillas and it's supposed to be just like fried cheese on the taco topped with guac and salsa. There was minimal fried cheese and SO much guac. I had a shrimp taco which felt flavorless and an asada taco which felt overfilled. My husband loved the birria. I had a bite and it was delicious!! read more

I had no idea until recently that the other TTW location closed down. Bummer! My friend got scombroid fish poisoning after eating here last week during Denver Restaurant Week. This type of foodborne illness happens when fish isn't properly refrigerated and develops high levels of histamine as it spoils. When someone eats it, it can trigger symptoms that look like a severe allergic reaction or even anaphylactic shock. She ordered the mahi-mahi fish tacos, and almost immediately her throat swelled so badly that she couldn't swallow her own saliva or speak. At first she thought it was just an allergic reaction, which didn't make sense because she has never had a fish allergy. In fact, she had just returned from Asia where she ate fish regularly without any problems. She ended up having to go to the ER, where the doctor evaluated her and told her it was likely scombroid poisoning from spoiled fish. She's too kind to say anything publicly, but I'm not. Situations like this are serious and should probably be reported to the public health department. read more

Absolutely unacceptable experience after being a loyal customer for years. I have been to this restaurant over 20 times and routinely go out of my way to come here, but I will not be returning after how we were treated. After ordering several tacos and two margaritas each, everything was fine until Brandon, our server, got a 9-top. Once that happened, his attitude completely changed. Even though we had already paid our bill and left a full 20% tip, he immediately started trying to rush us out. While we were waiting on a cab and finishing our drinks, Brandon came over and said, in a passive-aggressive tone, I am going to say this in the nicest way possible, we are seating a 9 seat back here and you might want to leave. Less than a minute later, he returned and said we are boxing you out. When I asked him to chill and give me two minutes to finish my drink, he actually reached over and tried to rip the drink out of my hand as if I was the problem. I pulled it back, stood up to leave, and he then opened the door like he was escorting me out. This was rude, aggressive, and completely unnecessary, especially toward a regular customer who had already paid, tipped well, and was simply waiting on transportation. If Brandon can't handle a 9-top without rushing paying customers out and putting his hands on their drinks, he has no business serving tables. Learn how to manage your section, and don't treat loyal customers like garbage. read more

The ambiance was very blasé, the chips tasted like a cardboard box and the guacamole tasted like something that came out of a tube. I will not be coming back here, like ever. I think we arrived in time for happy hour- it was cold out, probably late October/early November but we sat at the screened in porch area. I got a spicy marg as usual and split a plate of tacos. What an amazing place! The food is very, very good, this was our first visit and guarantee it will not be our last. The tacos were all made of fresh high-quality ingredients and very tasty. While the pork belly al Pastor was a little disappointing, the other tacos, such as the spicy tuna, and the shrimp taco more than made up for it the service is beyond good, there aren't enough positive words to describe it. Came for the happy hour margaritas (daily from 3-6) and stayed for the queso, tacos, and slider. Smaller restaurant, but there is also a small patio seating area. We loved the queso fundido al tequila. It was very very cheesy and very very tasty; came out piping hot on a cast iron skillet. We had several tacos from the main many and also orders margaritas off the happy hour menu. I did also like the chipotle shrimp slider. Service was excellent! Food and drinks came out relatively fast. Of note, there is a 5% "kitchen love" added to the tab. Not a big deal for us since service was good anyways. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, but it is shared with other businesses. There are lots of parallel parking, so plan ahead in case you need a few extra minutes to find parking.
