Website states happy hour is 3-6, Fri thru Sunday, but we came at 3:15 on a Saturday and were told that happy hour did not start until 4:00.

This was my favorite taco place and we've been regulars for years. However, there have been some bumps since the new owners have taken over. Most recently, we visited on a Saturday for happy hour, which is from 3-6 (according to their website) however, when we ordered, we were told that happy hour did not start until 4:00. When I showed the server the website, she checked with the manager and still came back and said yeah, we just haven't updated the website yet. We unexpectedly got free churos at the end of our visit, but I'd have rather had them honor their website...I wasn't interested in dessert. Also, you can no longer order just one quesaburria taco - you must order them as a set of 3. This is really disappointing. In addition, the food has been a little 'off' the last few times we have visited. For example, my husbands carnitas were very dry and the onion topping was different than usual. Still, this is one of my favorite places to eat but I am starting to wonder if it's worth it to keep coming back and be disappointed more often than not.

I love tacos, I love tequila, and I love whiskey--so obviously I had to visit Tacos, Tequila & Whiskey in the Highlands. Spoiler alert: I love them now too. What I tried: Basically... the whole menu, but highlights included: Carnitas: Crispy roasted pork perfection. Cordero: Braised lamb with esquite--an elite combo. Queso Fundido: Made with tequila and chorizo, absolutely unreal. Hibiscus Margarita: My favorite sip of the night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe? Fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food? Fire. The service? Fantastic. The prices? Super fair for what you get. Add this spot to your Denver rotation ASAP.

My tacos and tequila crew (yes, I'm being serious!) came by on a Friday afternoon to check out the spot for the last chunk of happy hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outdoor patio was bumping but indoors was quite quiet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was lovely and someone always seemed to be around for water refills which is an A+ in my book. We heard great things about the queso and had to give it a try - did not disappoint! Super cheesy and delicious. Decent HH deals on margs but was bummed no taco deals. Margs were fine but nothing to call home about; the spicy one didn't have much of a kick. For tacos, I went with the hongos, birria, and fried chicken. Tortillas were great quality and tacos were very filling with yummy flavor. The massive chunk of fried chicken was sweet as a portion size, though very difficult to eat and would have liked to see it cut at least in half. On the whole, a really solid spot to grab some tacos and tequila - would not be upset to return by any means.

Think I've reviewed it before, but whatever. This place is insanely good and has a great HH menu too! Their tacos on hh are "sliders" and they're sooooo good. The nachos on happy hour were also super good, haven't had these before but the cheese was layered so well and every chip had a delicious bite - the Key to good nachos! The sliders were reaaaaaalllyyyy good. Make sure you get the birria slider, it's to die for! Service is always great and quick here! I get the purist margaritas, it's super super fresh and not too sweet at all! Love it!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Some of the best tacos I've had in Denver and a great atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outdoor dining area was well set up and the service was great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had six different tacos and all were amazing, the carnitas and quesabirria were incredible. Will absolutely be going back.

Been curious about this place for awhile and I'm so glad we stopped to try! We tried the nachos that were on the happy hour menu and there were layers of flavors while the nachos were actually super crispy and not stale at all! We also tried the tacos and every single one I tried were so tasty!! I can't remember the name but the one with a fatty pork meat was my favorite. Everything melts in your mouth!! Wonderful place. Would love to try stuff from their brunch menu and non-taco items (which might be hard cuz now that I know the taste it'll be too tempting)

So this came as a pleasant surprise! When traveling through the airport in Denver, and you have a layover, we have all aimlessly looked for a place to either have a snack, lunch or dinner. I took a gamble on this place. This place did not disappoint. I had the Carnitas taco and black beans, was seriously hesitant because there is no way you're going to get good tacos in an airport. Do yourself a favor and try this place. If you're ever lucky to be in terminal A- it's down at the end of the terminal around A18. I didn't wanna commit on a combo so I just got one taco and a side of black beans, that was $10! So now I'm thinking I should've got the two tacos combo, lol. Anyways, give this place a try it was truly delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It may be a bit confusing because there is a bar restaurant right next-door to it so soon as you pass the bar, you'll see the restaurant on the other side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You're welcome!

We went last weekend with our family and had tacos, queso, and margs. Our server was super nice. The watermelon margarita sounded really good on the board but I feel like flavor wise it fell a little flat and the seasoning on the rim was weird. It wasn't just tajin, it was like tajin, salt, oregano and something else. It was strange. We got the chorizo queso with garlic to share for the table. It came out hot and bubbly. It was probably my favorite part of the meal. It was melty, it was yummy, it was crispy from the little cast iron pan and the garlic addition was perfect. It had a little heat but not bad. Everyone at the table got the queso a la plancha taco and I was disappointed with this one. It came in two corn tortillas and it's supposed to be just like fried cheese on the taco topped with guac and salsa. There was minimal fried cheese and SO much guac. I had a shrimp taco which felt flavorless and an asada taco which felt overfilled. My husband loved the birria. I had a bite and it was delicious!!

Honestly the most amazing people. I stopped by a few minutes after 11. They still went out of their way to make me food and accommodate me. Amazing food, amazing people! Highly recommend! I'm really lost for words with their kindness! Thank you so much

Our favorite taco place in Denver! We love going for happy hour because they have some different yummy apps (nachos), always get the spicy marg, and end with a bunch of tacos. Mushroom, fish & beer, shrimp, and birria are my absolute favorites. Also always have to end with the churros! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Can't wait to sit out on the patio this summer![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I started going when they were still operating out of their food truck, and honestly, watching them grow into a permanent restaurant feels like seeing your favorite underground band finally make it big... except instead of music, they're dropping cheesy taco masterpieces. The queso tacos are absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way: crispy, cheesy, messy, and worth ruining at least one shirt over. And the consome? That stuff could heal emotional damage. It's rich, comforting, and somehow makes you immediately want "just one more taco" even when you're already full. Every time I'm in Denver, this place is mandatory. Not optional. Not "if there's time." Mandatory. My vacation itinerary basically starts with flights and ends with tacos. So happy to see Kike's getting the recognition they deserve. If you haven't been yet, prepare to have your standards permanently ruined for all other tacos.

They gave me 2 tiny containers for salsa and then when I asked for a couple more, the lady said she could only give me two more. :( Excited to try the food and started off great with a simple bean, cheese, and rice burrito but outside of that everything else was very meh. Not sure how but all the meats were so dry, I ordered braised/slow cooked meats (barbacoa and carnitas). Asada and pastor were okay as well. This long skinny establishment - not necessarily super spacious - can offer you a decent food that you can count on. You don't need anybody to go with - you can be a solo diner because this place is not intimidating in any way. It's that casual. I think this establishment was born in the old Stoney's Cantina space. Whether the place was huge enough to create two businesses (and thus La Loteria occupied half of it), I sort of saw some "remnant" of Stoney's was the impression that I got. Whatever I am correct on this or not, this casual Mex place is all about vivid pastel colored interior where red is mostly dominant. Intriguing murals on walls 360 degrees are quite impressive. Once you are inside, a huge arrow to direct the people to order to their left at the ordering counter. That ordering counter extends all the way where you'll see some bar seatings. The right side of it mostly has tables for small to large groups of people. Like I said, this place is not huge but at the same time, people don't stay long to dine; the turnover is quite quick in a way. The restaurant also gets many walk-in to-go order placers as well. I got me the Aztec Bowl for to-go. This dish is only $11 (as of early May of 2025) and is a vegetarian item. I consume a lot of vegetarian diet and yet my instinct loudly spoke to me to add some protein to it. Whether or not you can keep it non-meat to stay in the vegetarian zone, adding some protein to this dish is a must as if it was by itself, it would be a bit boring because it only has some greens and some slices of avocado. As the add-on, I got me the carne asada ($5.00) that comes with rice. Not bad.. I didn't eat it right after I got home; I meant to get it to eat it the next day which I did (this AM.) It was still fresh where nothing tasted stale. The carne asada was well-cooked with seasonings. In other words, it wasn't salty at all but held good flavors. Now on the receipt, I saw a charge of what's called "takeout service fee" which is 18%. I kind of assumed that this was mostly the mandatory gratuity. At the end of the card transaction, I remember that the different gratuity percentages were listed on the machine and they were quite small because of this fee. It'll be up to you to add more if you wish. Some people might complaint about this mandated system and yet I kind of understand that businesses nowadays must survive by navigating through the rising cost of living. As we have seen our favorite businesses disappear in the recent years, I am here to support them by whatever I could within my power. Whereas the parking on Broadway is a pain in the neck at any time of the day, if I think of a casual Mexican dining in the Baker neighborhood next time, I may stop by here. It's a good establishment to know.

I mean seriously!! They care about their customers that get satisfied with their service and meals. And it does draw a very diverse crowd from the Hispanics to Caucasians to Asians, I mean you name it. They also get a lot of to-go orders. Some people came in, grabbed their food and went on their way for the night. My friend got the Torta Los Carboncito. This is a massive sandwich with plenty of meat inside. Since the menu has colored picofor almost each item, what caught my attention was the fish dish. There are two of them: one is trout and the other is something else (I forgot) but I got me the non-trout one. The lady asked me if I wanted the flour or corn tortillas so I went with the corn one. As soon as I got home, my late night snacking started. I only took several bites out of that whatever the huge fish. And oh my goodness, it was so delicious! Well-seasoned with very light salt. Although I mainly got it for tomorrow morning/lunch I had a hard time quit eating because of its deliciousness. Extremely welcoming staff (I even met the owner, Alex as he was dining with his family), quality food and value pricing, this place checks out for the hidden gem restaurant that's not necessarily super fancy but it's worth every penny and time.
