It was happy hour so we lucked out, and they also had a holiday cocktail menu. For drinks we had the pisco sour and the frozen margarita mix as well as the grinch hot chocolate and the champagne with mezcal. Everything was delicious; however, I didn't realize the champagne and mezcal would be a glass of champagne plus a shot of mezcal on the side. Other than that the place was a hit. Fried nigiri appetizer was pretty good. It was fried rice on the bottom, and creamy meat on top. Bottom didn't have much flavor, so the top carried there. Wagyu tartare was also good, but you need to make sure you're including some bread in every bite, otherwise you'll blow your head with mustard. Horchata was delicious. Food took a while. Okay, I was across the street at Ballyhoo and wanted to get some snacks and an end of the night drink. I can say I wasn't disappointed but I can't in good faith give it 5 stars until I try the ceviche. The service was good and the atmosphere solid. I sat at the bar and just got some shareable because I wasn't too hungry. Got 2 appetizers and one mini drink at it cost more than 30$ so it's a little pricey but it includes a 20% service charge on the bill so be aware of that. The Peruvian nigiri is 9$ and it comes with 2 pieces. I thought it was a rice croquet underneath it but it was fried rice with nigiri on top and while it was only 2 pieces it was good. You decide if it's worth the price or not but I found it tasty, the rice overtook the taste of the nigiri a bit but not enough to make this less than a 4 star review. I then got the the papaya to try to be healthy and it was tasty, gummy and good. I figured to leave a legit review I had to get at least one cocktail and I'm a fan of Negroni's and mezcal so I got the mini Negroni. It tasted exactly as expected. A Negroni but with mezcal so no complaints. Overall it's a bit pricey but solid. Can't complain and it's a solid 4 out of 5. I do want to try the ceviche sometime but overall since I was just looking for snacks and a drink it met my every expectation and then some. No complaints overall but it is a bit pricey. We arrived during happy hour on the patio and opted for a happy hour marg and guacamole. The guacamole was delicious but the serving size was small for the number of chips we received, so we inquired about purchasing salsa to enjoy with the remaining chips and were surprised to learn that they don't serve salsa. The guacamole was creamy and fresh and a nice light snack for two. He chose the happy hour margarita and reported that it was delicious. I chose the spicy strawberry margarita and it was a wonderful summery flavor combination. Our server was kind and delivered water for each of us by request as well. I find the 20% service charge that is automatically added to the bill confusing because it states that it's to ensure that all service members are paid equally, but isn't a tip?!? It's either the cost of food or the tip imho. If you're charging me additional money to provide to the employees then bravo, but that replaces the tip. A very pricey afternoon snack, but with a lovely outdoor patio and very fresh ingredients. We've been wanting to try this restaurant for many years and I'm glad that we finally did. read more

My issue with this restaurant has nothing to do with the food -- it's the mandatory 20% service charge added on top of the expected 20% gratuity. If higher operating costs require higher prices, then raise the menu prices accordingly. I had such high hopes coming here!! But was a little disappointed with the food! Came in during restaurant week with two friends. Service was totally fine! Our server answered all of our questions. The atmosphere was great! It was lively and I liked the space. Now onto the food. One of my friends has a gluten allergy, though is usually fine with cross contamination. Sadly she ended up with stomach pains that felt as if she had fully ingested gluten. We can't actually confirm if there was gluten in her food, but she had a strong suspicion. Next, myself and a friend got the short rib pepper pot. It was insanely salty! It was incredibly hard to eat. The sofrito rice also wasn't cooked well. I was super disappointed!! Loved our first dining experience at Senor Bear. Arrived on a busy Saturday night and the host couldn't find our rez.... we then realized my husband confused the dates he made a reservation :). The host was beyond kind and was able to quickly find us a two top inside at a packed restaurant which was greatly appreciated on a freezing Saturday night in Denver. Service all around was fantastic, attentive, just pleasant people working there. Had a few cocktails which hit the spot, whatever drink I had with Mezcal was so good. The vibe inside was great-- music was a little loud when we arrived but once we sat down it did not bother us. The playlist was so good. The cocktails were all solid, but the cucumber margarita was the standout for me. As a Brazilian, I can say the caipirinha was delicious, even if it was a bit different from home. For food, my top picks were the carne de onça and the coconut rice. The wagyu tartare on warm bread was so good, and the coconut rice could seriously be a dessert all on its own. The chorizo was also full of flavor. I wasn't as crazy about the jerk chicken, which was crispy but lacked the spice I was hoping for. The hamachi tiradito was interesting, but just a different style than what I'm used to (it was more Ecuadorian than Peruvian). We finished with the tres leches, which was a modern take on the classic and absolutely delicious, especially the dulce de leche on top. Then my husband and I ordered the chicken entree, hot wings, and the side potatoes. The chicken was MEH also--soft, not a lot of flavor. Everything was well executed, but it didn't leave much of a lasting impression for the most part. According to the server, the concept is supposed to be "latin", meaning pan-South American. However, quite a few items were Mexican, such as tamales and carnitas, and there was only one red wine from South America. Began with the tuna cerviche, which wasn't pickled as expected. It came with some jalapeno slices and micro-greens in a creamy dressing. It was OK, but a bit bland. The lamb cheeks with broccolini and parsnip puree was excellent! The lamb was incredibly succulent and tender, although a few bites were a tad too salty. The pork tail carnitas were crispy and sticky from a sweet-ish sauce, and came with little ramekins of pickled cucumber, mashed avocado, sliced cabbage and 4 tortillas that weren't particularly flavorful. She handed me a happy hour menu (3pm-5pm at tables with extra hour to 6pm at bar). I quickly ordered a Paloma cocktail for $9 vs regular price of $15 & Shrimp cocktail for $11. She brought my drink quickly. While looking at Winter 2024 menu ( a customized paper menu), my appetizer came out. Four large shrimp dusted in spices on a bed of ice. Nice presentation. Their regular menu has appetizers both in smaller sizes & shareables, ceviche & crudo, entrees & sides. Lots of choices. The cocktail menu is also large. You can also get wines, frescas and beers. I got a grilled caesar salad and a seared marinated tuna entree. The salad was a bit small with romaine spears. The tuna entree was excellent. I added a cocktail, Mango no.5 made with Stranahan's whiskey & amaretto with egg white. A great drink. I then switched to their house Sangria with red wine & rum. A lighter drink. We ordered a bear basket for two of us (basically we let them order for us for a flat rate), and wasn't initially told that it was meant for big groups of people. Still enjoyed it either way. Got bottomless mimosas which has a 90-minute limit and our server said he would put in another round every time our glass was half empty, but we had empty glasses half the time we were there, and at the end when we asked for another he said our time was out! For $33 that sucked lol. The food was decent. We got the breakfast sandwich and the chilaquiles! The chilaquiles were good, no complaints. The bacon on the breakfast sandwich was crispy and delicious but we asked for the egg over easy and it wasn't runny at all. Potatoes on the side were good!
