I've been an avid patron of Kachina for years. They've changed their menu and no longer offer ala carte tacos on fry bread. They now offer taco plates where you pay $20-24 for 3 (yes, 3) street tacos. All of my favorites that used to bring me into kachina are gone and their new menu is sub par. Stopped here on a food tour. Beautiful place in a cool hotel. However, it was totally open and therefore too warm and muggy to enjoy food. The guacamole was excellent and it was nice that they came with Chicarones and chips. I did not like the margarita but I don't usually like them. Others in my party did. I hated the pork taco. The blue tortilla fell apart the second I picked it up. The only flavor it had was from the peach jalapeño sauce. read more

We were in the area and looking for a sweet treat to wrap up our evening, but wanted something beyond the typical dessert or ice cream shop so we stopped into Kachina Cantina, and I'm glad we did. Our group of four ordered the churros and the dessert fry bread to share, and both were excellent. The fry bread is stuffed with mascarpone and served with berries and syrup making it a great option if you want something indulgent but shareable. The churros were next level. Crispy, warm, and served with two dipping sauces: chocolate and caramel that really take them over the top. The rest of the menu looks fantastic, so I'll definitely be back to try dinner (and dessert) next time. read more

Open, vibrant, bright, modern, I can think of a handful of words to describe this cantina that is in the heart of LoDo. As part of the restaurant crawl that my soon-to-be 25 years old daughter and I were set out to do, after having a few bites at a nearby dumpling place, we came here for more bites to entertain our palates and stomachs. You can enter this establishment from the main door located on 19th and Wazee or walk directly from the Denver Milk Market without exiting the building. If you choose the latter, a very cute airstream that in which one of the workers makes churros inside will welcome you at the entrance. As we proceeded, we saw a spacious bar to the left. To the right saw a vividly drawn art on the wall. When we reached the reception all the way to the other end of it we greet a man for our 5:30pm reservation. Ian who also became our waiter took us to one of the tables for the night. It was a slow Sunday night everywhere in downtown Denver. Kachina was no exception. Only several tables were taken by people where it was creating a quiet noise. Perfect occasion for an intimate mother and daughter time. The menu is not massive but there are enough items to choose from. We were lucky enough to be the happy hour window where we were able to pick a few items from the HH menu. We thus went with the chicken taco ($3) and the carnitas taco ($3). And from the main menu, we got us the Chile Relleno ($20 and yet on our check it was listed as $15. We specified that it was a birthday occasion when we reserved our table so I wonder if they discounted?? Not sure but we liked the cheaper price). From the Zero-proof section, we got Guava Mint Agua Fresca ($8, this is a very reasonably priced mocktail.) Ian was very attentive and pleasant to us. He was creating a positive atmosphere; his welcoming demeaner as well as his efficiency were top-notch. The two tacos were good; not super impressive in any way however. The Relleno was a good portion but it sure looked different from the few photos posted on Yelp (we could clearly see that the center of it used to be rice. Now it's made with quinoa. This was a bit disappointing as I cannot consume quinoa in a large quantity due to sensitivity to the stomach.) Well, it's clearly written on the menu that it has quinoa so we missed it. Too bad...we could have asked the kitchen to modify it with rice. We will do that next time for sure. Let's not forget to mention about the mocktail. This is a good well-concocted zero-proof. A good amount of guava was tasted. Not too sweet and it's reasonably priced at $8. There was a little surprise at the end. The guy who was making churros in the airstream upfront came to the dining area to serve us (all diners) complimentary churros! We thus didn't have to spend extra to get us a dessert. The churros were crispy with a perfect amount of sweetness. I thought I was going to say that the Guava mocktail was the best thing for the night and but let me restate that it was the fee churros. This is a decent place to grab a few tacos or quick bites. Prices are reasonable; good service; good ambience. Great restaurant with great food. I have been here a few times but this is the first time I am creating a review. They have some vegetarian options and they have some unique items on the menu. I ordered the birria and most of it was very delicious but it had a big amount of just pure fatty parts. They were decently priced but a bit on the expensive side. It's a solid spot to hang if you're in the hotel of the same building or you're looking to splurge a bit for some nice environment. I would describe this place as a 4-star experience but you'd expect more for the cost. Hence, the prices knock it down to a 3. There are many seating arrangements. The bar is also delightfully comfortable. Drinks here are solid. Food is very expensive and the quantity is very light. Given the price point, you'd expect either more quantity or amazing quality, but it's just alright. It's something I'd be happy to eat for dinner if I were hungry, but I probably wouldn't pay as much as we did for quantity and quality of that size. Overall service was okay. This was our fourth stop as part of our Downtown Denver Food Tour. Our guide hyped this place up so much, that he comes eat here every week. But when they served us their Wagyu Taco, I was not that impressed. The wagyu meat itself was very tender and you could tell it was quality meat. But maybe the sauce and seasoning with the fried taco just didn't quite gel together. Other folks at my party agreed discretely. We thought it was just okay, it's fru-fru taco for no reason, there are better taco options in Denver. But the place itself is beautiful. The food here is AMAZING!! I previously tried the cauliflower taco on fry bread during a Denver food tour. This was my first time trying fry bread and I was blown away! When having guests in town, I raved about the fry bread and knew we had to go back and try the desserts. We got the churros with cajeta sauce and chocolate sauce. This is easily my favorite dessert I've had in Denver so far. We also had the stuffed sopapillas with berries and mascarpone. The presentation of this dessert was so well done, and having this be made with the fry bread made it even more delicious. Went to a special event here where we were supposed to be spending 2 hours making tamales. Instead we were given a husk, the meat and the masa. We put it together and folded it which took basically no time. Didn't get to do anything to cook the meat, didn't get to do anything to make the masa. Didn't even get to put the husk in some water. We were done and gone within 30 minutes with 1(very expensive) tamale. We had even asked for the recipe for the tamales. We were told we'd get it but even that didn't happen. My wife and I were excited to do this together and it really could have been a great experience, but (considering it's right by Rockies Stadium) it was a swing and a miss. read more

I've been here a bunch of times and every time has been great except today. The restaurant was half empty, scattered empty tables all over, the host asked if we had a reservation and was not sure if he could seat us, our part was 5 people. The service and wait times were horrible. We ordered everything the first time we saw the server since it was over 25 minutes for someone ask if we wanted water, drinks, or even come up to the table. This was a sign, we should have left. The chips and salsa trio appetizer took 35 minutes, this is chips and 3 salsas. The second appetizer and 2 a la cart tacos took 58 minutes from ordering, the taco plate, 3 tacos with rice and beans took 1 hour and 22 minutes from time of ordering. If you want to spend the entire day here this is your place. The food is good but not worth the wait and hesitation to sit us. I will not be taking family and friends visiting from out of town here any more. read more

This was actually such a great find! We were looking for a place to do bottomless brunch, but we were running late, so we ended up coming after brunch. It was worth it! Our server was kind and didn't take too long getting our orders in. The place was bright and inviting. They also have a combi inside, which I think you can get drinks from on the other side, but not sure. The food was great! The birria plate was probably the stand out. It was so much food, but it was amazing since we could not stop eating! The pozole that's on the happy hour menu was tasty and it was a great portion! Food: we were super impressed with the food here! (1) Grilled skirt steak: so delicious! It has a spicy chocolate mole sauce, rice, beans, and fresh avocado. The steak was charred but still pink (which I like) and seasoned well. They gave you fresh tortillas on the side to make your own tacos and it was soo good! (2) Tacos: 1 carnita, 1 al pastor, and 1 fish. My partner said all three were fantastic. He said the fish was his favorite. (3) Queso Fundido: it was my least favorite thing. It was a little light on flavor. (4) Frozen margs: these barely tasted like they had alcohol in them. Recommend getting an extra shot to add in You do not get chips/salsa for free but it's very cheap on happy hour. Service: they were pretty packed in there but service was still great. Nothing to complain about. Ambience: they have a huge bar for potential walk-ins and big patio. It's a fairly large place so in theory walk-ins could happen but we had a reservation and had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Came here on Christmas Day with my boyfriend and his mother, one of the only places open in the area. Such a cute ambience, at the corner of the restaurant, so there are windows on both sides and an open kitchen floor plan where you can see behind. They had their full menu and even a few holiday specials, including a full prime rib dish. I ended up going for traditional Mexican food, starting with the Elote, which was a hit. They keep the corn on the cob and cut it up into about six pieces, perfectly seasoned with The spicy mayonnaise and Cotija cheese. Cooked exactly right and tasted delicious, easy for sharing too. I decided to try two tacos, the grilled fish and the Carne Asada. Often, I only find fried fish tacos around here if any, so it was nice to have the grilled option. They were really good, but the Carne Asada was my favorite. I also tried it on the fry bread which was the cherry on top. I had never had a taco on this type of bread before, and it was absolutely delicious. Our server was so sweet, I can't remember his name, but he was very attentive and gave me all the best recommendations. He was on top of things and we filled our drinks without asking. Thank you! She kicks so much ass at her job it's wild. Even after a packed Broncos game crowd, she handled everything with total grace, all while keeping that real, human touch that makes you feel welcome. Her vibe is chill, her service is top-notch, and she's got great taste -- her drink and food suggestions were spot-on. You can tell she actually cares about giving people a great experience. First of all, I want to say, the service was really great, and the ambiance was very casual yet we didn't feel out of place a bit dressed up. Since it's essentially in a hotel lobby in the Milk Market, I think it likely gets a lot of travelers staying in the hotel. The night we came it was not crowded, and was a great vibe! The food was quite disappointing. My husband and I both ordered their version of a taco salad, and despite the price (around $20 with meat), the salad was tiny. There could have been twice as many greens and add-ins to fill the bowl. It also felt overdressed and the small amount of greens that were in the bowl ended up wilted since they were drenched with dressing. I came here for a friend's birthday on a Friday night. We had a reservation as the group was rather large celebrating a birthday (16 people). The food was all pretty decent. I wouldn't say that it is traditional Mexican food, but I loved the spin that that they took. My favorite was the corn which would be a great add to any meal that you order! Unfortunately, the service was not great. We made this reservation over a month in advanced so it is assumed that management would have it well covered. There was only one waitress who was supporting us, and I felt horrible you could see how overwhelmed she was not just handling our table but the bar tops above. In turn the food and drinks took over 30 minutes to come out. Some of the drinks came out after the food. It was kind of a mess. Management definitely need to put two people on such a large party. See the photo. Not a share with a table of 4 dish. It came in a dish about half the length of the spoon with Pace picante tasting toppings and was VERY watery. I ordered the Beef Birria. Mistake. It came as a piece of very fatty beef in thick overly smoky sauce in a bowl with rice, a slice of avocado, a lime slice, a half teaspoon of onion & cilantro, accompanied with a side of 4 street taco size corn tortillas. It's missing ALL the great aspects of traditional Birria tacos. No cheese, no crunch, no consume deliciousness to dip in. Im not sure the point of the rice because it is not edible covered in the thick sauce that had the texture of thick bbq sauce. Tbh we regret coming here. read more

Simply put, the good thing about this place is that food is good. The bad thing is that the service is terrible. They also need to seriously update their website and online menus. The restaurant is clean, looks nice, and you're not cramped for space. We came for brunch without a reservation and waited 20min to be seated even though there were empty tables and nobody in front of us. The greeter was nice though. While we were waiting for a table, we decided to browse the menu through their website and decided on what we wanted. However, upon getting to the table, the menus we were given were completely different with the prices marked up by at least $3 per item. We inquired about the difference but were told by the waitress that she nothing about the online menu. After taking our order, that was pretty much the last time our waitress spoke to us, until we grabbed her and asked for the check. She said she'd be right back with it, but then tended to 4 other tables, so we went to the front to pay because we had somewhere to be. Good news? First time into Kachina and I was not disappointed! I really enjoyed the lively, bright atmosphere and decor and felt this added to the general vibe of the restaurant. Food was delicious. My boyfriend tried the tacos and was able to mix and match the flavors allowing us to try a bunch of different options. We both agreed the Pork Belly Al Pastor was our favorite- topped with pineapple, we enjoyed the sweet touch of flavor. We did not enjoy the shrimp taco, unfortunately. My meal was delicious as well, with the meat cooked perfectly to be pulled apart with a fork. Service was good as well, and everyone was very pleasant. I enjoyed my experience at Kachina. We ordered the chips and guac and green salsa (which was amazing) + found they had lots of vegetarian options. I opted for the vegetarian pazole which was so delicious I did not miss the meat. The wild berry margarita was good, subtle sweetness but still can taste the tequila. The fry bread was interesting, tasty, but would have liked it with some sort of dip or something. You do have the option to get tacos on fry bread instead of a tortilla. My friend and I wanted to try something a little bit different for our monthly brunches. So, we decided on this place. I have passed it for years but never tried it. It was nice, with an open kitchen. Plenty of space and not super busy for mid day on Saturday. The service was good and accommodating. We sat a cute table with a view of the street. We took up the challenge of the bottomless mimosa. Which was a very good deal. We went through two bottles. We did one with grapefruit juice and one with pineapple juice. I think the pineapple was my favorite. For the entree I chose the Chilaquiles. They were different then how I have had them at other restaurants. The egg came to the side instead of on top. It was an over easy egg instead of scrambled. And they used green sauce instead of a red sauce. The rest was the same with the tortilla chips, cotija cheese, beans, crema, and pickled onions. They had a nice level of spice but it felt more like an appetizer than a meal. It was a fun place and the food was decent, but if I go back again, I think I will try something different. read more
