This place reminds me of the over-the-top Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area. We dine here on a weekly bases, the food is THAT good. Nothing processed here....just the best herbs and meats combined together that result in a plethora of exotic flavors. The salsa comes in a different variety of ingredients and spiciness - but all made fresh from scratch. Did I mention the chips? You can eat bowls and bowls of it without any assistance of salsa. I would rate this location 3.5 stars, if there was a half of a star option. Paid Parking may be difficult to find. When I went, there were a variety of flies both inside and on the patio. The host was fairly friendly. Our server was slightly better than average. We ordered the Ceviche for an appetizer. It was worth trying once and most likely never again. We also ordered two Lobster tacos that were amazing. The frustration with that order was the price of each taco was double the amount as presented on the menu. Our server did let us know after we made our minds up. Each individual taco was 9 dollars. Minus star for false advertisement on the menu price, but a delicious taco if you don't mind spending extra. We also ordered a chicken quesadilla that was delicious. I wish all of the portions were a bit larger to match the pricing. The environment is more of a social setting. You most likely will be listening to the conversation of those sitting next to you. I don't think I will be in for a return visit, but it is possible. read more

While shopping in Cherry Creek, my dad and I decided tacos fit the lunchtime bill and Machete was our destination! Being a Sunday, we were also interested in catching some sports games, and the TVs lining all the walls were perfect for that. We ordered some guac to start which also came with four addicting salsas. Two baskets of chips deep, I'm still not sure which one is my favorite. While they offer an array of plates from quesadillas to tostadas, I wanted to try the tacos. I ordered one arrachera with a chile relleno, which isn't fried, but rather a chile stuffed with gooey cheese. The steak serving was plentiful and I'm just impressed the tortilla stayed (almost) in one piece. I also ordered one pescado taco with grilled tilapia on a SQUID INK tortilla. I also stole a tiny bit of my dad's cordero (lamb) taco and it was delicious. They have a full bar with margaritas and tequila cocktails, including beers of your standard Mexican selection (Dos Equis, Pacifico, etc.). Unfortunately, I'm part Mexican and don't like tequila nor Mexican beer so alas, water it was! The service was fast and casual. Look, I'm an armature taco eater. Been eating tacos my whole life. I'm told about this place, not in CA, that has great tacos. Come on right? How can it be great if its not in CA. I'm an unlicensed restaurant critic, what do I know? Apparently nothing, cause I can not stop going back to this place to try every single taco that have on the menu only to fail cause there are so many different types the fall into depression that I cant order one more taco. I blew in for lunch with high expectations and I'm delighted to say they were met! I was a bit concerned about "Machete" in the name because that's a damn big knife! If someone tried a dine-n-dash would they chop off his head? Very messy. If I flirted with the bartender too much would they lop off my family jewels? That would be unfortunate. I queried the bartender and she assured me they only brought out "The Blade" when someone wanted ketchup on their tacos! On that I heartily agree! ATMOSPHERE- This is a basement location so it's just a little dim but it has a very nice casual vibe. There is a sizable bar and outside seating. Considering the sophistication of the drinks and the menu I can see why some call this fine-dining Mexican. CUSTOMER SERVICE- I sat at the bar and my bartender was cute and a little sassy and efficient. I kept the flirting to a minimum as I wanted to hold on to "my jewels!" ADULT LIBATIONS- My first was a Spicy Rico Rita @ $12 and I was blown away! It was beautifully made, strong and had the expected spicy kick. It was truly an excellent drink. Next I tried a Coin Purse @ 11. It was described as tidy & smooth and it was exactly that kind of margarita. Once again it was beautifully mixed and excellent. I agree with others that their drink prices are probably $1 too high. $12 for a marg is high even for Cherry Creek. FOOD- I went for the Chile Relleno @ $12 and it was excellent! The batter was light and the Oaxaca cheese stuffing was crazy good. As you can see from my picture the dish was beautifully plated. The accompanying beans & rice were so exceptional they deserve a separate paragraph. So many times the B&R at a Mexican restaurant are an afterthought but definitely not here. I'm going to have dreams about these guys! Hundreds of reviews give these guys a solid four stars and my fellow Yelpers know their stuff. If I could I would go for 4.5! read more

This is a super cute local hipster restaurant in cherry creek. They have a lovely outside patio where you can sit and chat, drink near the outside heaters. They have a super awesome deal for 12 tacos for $44! You can mix and match any of the meats for the tacos. The chips and dips they give you have 4 variety of flavors. They have a lot of happy hour times as well!! They took awhile to get our water, kinda dying of thirst! Didn't check up on our table as much as they should've. Machete was everything we were looking for. We dined here during Happy Hour, but actually didn't end up taking advantage of the deals (which are pretty good), as we were set on trying the Spicy Rico and Sayulita margaritas. Both had a nice kick; my Rico even had a jalapeno garnish, which was pretty intense. I can't say I was the biggest fan of the multitude of cilantro bits floating in it, though. We weren't super hungry and mainly came for a tapas kind of meal, which worked out well as you order per taco. We ended up trying: Cordero, Langosta, Betabel, and Coliflor. The first three were amazing, but the cauliflower taco was pretty bland and had way too many sliced almonds in it, so I can't recommend that one. As far as waitstaff goes, everyone was attentive and friendly, and the place was quite clean for being so busy. I only went inside to go to the restroom, but from what I saw the interior decor has a cool look and vibe. We also really loved that there was outdoor seating. I had a craving for a fish taco and a cold beer so based on Yelp reviews I was off to Machete's. We managed to get lucky and get a table on the sunken patio. The patio can be best described as cozy because it is a tight space. Our server was all business because the place was hopping and she was hustling to take care of her customers. We ordered the chips and 4 salsas to start, the chips are ok but I liked the salsas that were served. For lunch I ordered 1 lobster taco, 1 swordfish taco and 1 hanger steak taco. The best taco was the lobster taco but it could have used a little more lobster. The swordfish taco came with a sizable portion of deep fried breaded fish and it was delicious. The hanger steak taco was good by any standard but the lobster taco was sooo good. Yes I will return here because the prices were reasonable and the tacos were very good. read more

Been eyeing Machete for a few years, but never quite got past the "Cherry Creek North" vibe... until a going away party for a friend. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when I did! Interior has darker lighting, but a good vibe- not at all Cherry Creek North valet-parking-only stuffy. Our server was kind and friendly. We started with a round of margaritas and sangria. There are several varieties of margs on the menu- we tried the cucumber, hibiscus, and pineapple. All were tasty, but a bit on the smaller side. Cocktails are about $11 each. For starters, we got the 4 salsas and guac- WOW, that fresno is delicious!!! It's the reddish creamy one. Super tasty and memorable! Guac was good, but not particularly memorable. I think the chips were made from some sort of pita? They were thicker than tortilla chips. Dinner was tacos, tacos, and more tacos. Our table got a wide variety- I had the lobster, the fried swordfish, pork w/ apple (highly recommend this one!), and rotisserie chicken. Yummy! Overall, it ended up being a really good experience. While our bill came out to over $180 for 5 people (okay, so we got a few rounds of drinks...), it was great quality good that I will cherish and remember for a good friend's final meal in town before moving. We had a wonderful experience here! Not only was it outdoor dining only, but we had a handful of hungry toddlers and they were able to seat us and get us all our food in record time. We had an area to ourselves (probably because it was dark and cold) and our server was still out to check on us lots. Plus everyone's food was great! Still enjoy this spot! Friday night at happy hour we got seated right away. The Kona margarita was flavorful; the skinny margarita string; and the sangria was the everyone's favorite. It tasted like an apple cinnamon version! My favorite tacos are the de la Milpa and el jardin. The chips and salsa still aren't complimentary, but they're phenomenal. They now charge $1/extra basket. Having grown up in Southern California, I was not expecting to find great tacos in Denver but Machete Tequila + Tacos surprised the heck out of me! Id say the only down side of this place is the location (I'm not a fan of how snobby Cherry Creek is) but other than that I really love coming here. They have such a huge selection of tacos and tequila an they knock it out of the park every time I visit. Some of my favorites are the Lengua, Campechano, Pollo Rostizado (its the crunch potato's for me), Pescado and their Al Pastor. As for drinks, I love the Sayulita. When a restaurant has "tequila" in its name, you know it's going to be good! Came here as a group of five on Saturday evening and we were able to sit outside without a wait! Incredible! Everyone in our group except for me had been here before, and kept raving about the salsas/sauces. When I tried it with the chips, I have to admit that they were worth the hype! We were given four complementary salsas with the chips and their flavors were really unique and deliciosos! I was happy that the vegan tacos were labeled, not to mention that they had vegan tacos! The tequila menu will make your head spin by the variety that they have. Without spending gobs of money at the liquor store, you can go through shots of tequila of what you like and what you don't like. Their anejo tequila is on the pricy side because most of these have been oak aged for a VERY LONG time. Then you have your repasado and platinum, etc etc that follow the list. This place is far from your typical Cherry Creek North establishment. Once you walk in, it has a slight divey but calm collected feel. My friend and I showed up on a Wednesday around 2:30 in the afternoon and there was already a small buzz going on. Our waitress was wonderful and energetic. She made suggestions and joked around with us as well. We both ordered one protein, one seafood and a chef's choice for taco and they all came out perfect! Each of the tacos had their distinct flavor: My seafood taco had a mango habanero salsa and my protein taco had regular salsa, almost a pico de gallo in it. I liked this place a lot. A friend and I had lunch at your fine establishment today, 2/23/2023. The food, beverages and service were all superior. Superior as in off-the-charts good. Four observations: 1) Gabriela was attentive, helpful, enjoyable, and a role model for anyone who wants to work with customers. She went above and beyond in engaging with us, opining on menu choices, and offering to replace a beverage that was deemed "spicier than I can handle." Her service made us very happy to have eaten at Machete. 2) Save that shishito pepper recipe. Mmmmmm-mmmmmm good!!! The sauce, too. 3) Food was served very quickly, was hot (temperature), and delectable. This almost never happens at other restaurants. Too often the food is served late, cold, and tastes blah. Not so at Machete. The Tinga quesadilla was so good I almost ordered a second entrée. 4) Please consider adding coffee to the menu. It's a great after-meal beverage. My friends came for the tequila, I came for the tacos. They have a surprising variety of tacos on their menu and they're fairly cheap so whether you come in for a meal or some substance to soak up some of that tequila in your stomach, you won't be disappointed. Our group of 7 chose to sit at a bar and our bartender was super engaging. He kept us laughing and gave some solid drink recommendations. It's a Saturday night and we were on our way to another restaurant in Cherry Creek when we saw the big sign out in front on the sidewalk advertising Happy Hour in bright, stand-out 6" letters. Okay, we thought let's have some $3 tacos. All fine and well until we got the bill and saw we were charged full price. When I asked why, they pointed out the small print, not very legible, where it says says mon-fri. I asked why was the sign out on Saturday night and told them I thought it was pretty deceptive. All in all the waitress was very good, the food was mediocre and the sign was maybe purposely (?) deceptive. I felt I wasted my time by going there - should have gone elsewhere, not just because of the deceptive sign, but because the food was not worth it. read more

We ended up here because a friend who grew up in Denver told us we had to try this place. I can't say enough positive things about how delicious the tacos and margaritas were. They were smaller sized but packed full. In fact, I usually had to eat a little of the filling before picking it up or else some would fall out upon eating. The margarita was also delicious. You can tell they are using fresh squeezed limes for every drink instead of a mix. Only tried a few of the tacos but if they are representative of the others then I would say probably al of them are delicious. We also had a quesadilla and the guac and salsa sampler. Was shopping in Denver and was craving some Mexican food. This restaurant has three different locations from my understanding. This location was so cool. They have outside seating which is really nice if you enjoy people watching. LOL. And the outside seating sits at the bar window which opens from the inside. Such a cool spot.
